Just did a bit of reading and watching videos about this tab. Sounds like a great tab. IF I were to buy one it would be the 16G. But that still wouldn't be enough space for myself, the wife and kids needs. Cloud storage is not an option. But if it supports OTG then it would be sufficient enough. I just haven't read anything that it will definitely support it or not. So for now I will hold off until I'm certain that it does.

OTG? What is that?
Since it doesn't do mobile data, I wouldn't care if it uses cloud storage.. I wouldn't have to depend solely on my phone, nor on the tablet, I would use whichever gets the job done better.
But yea - I am absolutely sold on this tab. I've owned a nook color for a long time now, and the widescreen form factor is nice - plus the size is just big enough to make things like playing movies and games enjoyable, without feeling so big and clunky held by one hand(like gtab, ipad, etc)..
I just want something pretty future proof, and my phone is my camera/ipod/gps and light data when needed, so a tab would be my way to consume media, play games- a device with a battery that can die without cramping my style. It seems solid, I'm very glad it is a quad core, and who can ***** about having jelly bean? I am totally sold.
Oh! And price! I'm a broke ass college student.. but I'm sure I can scrounge up that much cash if I really try to - this device will sell purely because of a good pricing point and a pure google experience if you ask me.

OTG means On The Go so I hope its supports USB OTG. Being able to use an external memory along side the N7 would be sufficient. Can have endless amount of memory space.

16gb Pre-Ordered. I like Nexus Devices and I want to try out the middle size tablet 7in. sounds like it could be more portable than my HP touchpad ( CM9 ).
def getting one, doesnt need theming or nothing and i can finally put this cute ass keyboard i bought for my amaze to use for school.
idk why you guys are complaining about storage.. its not replacing your phone guys like cmon. im not moving all my music to this thing so idrc. movies? eh netflix. mostly for notes and some games (since it supports bluetoot remotes too! woot. goottaa love aosp)
I complain about storage because I have videos my kids would like to watch while going on trips and stuff. I've been waiting a long time to purchase my first tablet. If this does support OTG then I might just get the 8gb.

Looks nice, but I am perfectly content with my fire. Just have to move files on and off more as it is only 8 gig. Just side load movies, music, apps....runs go launcher perfect.
May try running ICS on it, but does work as is.
Least Google hit the nail on the head with competing wit the Fire price. Imagine people that don't have a tab would opt for the Google tab over the fire.

A million % true.. what sucks about the nook and fire is that both of them try to limit you to THEIR content, yet THEIR content works on any android device.. so why buy a nook or fire, when you can buy a better piece of hardware that can do all of that AND more - for the same price?
I would never buy a nook or fire if they couldn't be hacked to do it all, it would be a total waste.. I mean the extremes I am going thru right now to get my nook color's cm7.2 updated and dual boot some half-working AOKP is sucky.. and because the device was never INTENDED to do any of this, the hardware accelaration is not and will never work properly with ICS.
Maybe a few don't see how this will change things, but an android tablet WITHOUT limitations, proprietary software, touchwiz, sense, or anything else.. that can be a true game changer.
So I know I am reviving a dead thread.. but I am curious who here DID get the tablet, and how you feel about it? I've read plenty of reviews but it will be a while before I have the money to buy one myself.. but I'm still wanting to hear some feedback from normal people rather than bloggers.

Hey guys
Im selling my gtab on most probably ebay, and so i need to get bk to complete out the box stock for the UK. Does anyone know what the latest firmware for britain is to achieve this? Will it unroot the tab? as i would like it to be unrooted in the process.

Good god, the iPad 3 is horrible, it's like the iPad 1st gen with just more clarity which doesn't make sense, the 5MP camera doesn't even make up for that HD processing that the pad can handle. It's hilarious because the iPad 1-2-3 are almost practially the same -.- and the iPad is a steamrolled version of the iPhone, poor app support for apple tablets. If not for the iPhone 4 HD the iPad market would have plummet.
I've mentioned this before and will do so again, the only time I will get an iPad is if it completely negates the use for a laptop. The iPad3 is only useful if you have a DSLR like a D700 or a D7000 that can render out 10~16MP HD pictures, then that totally makes sense. Or else the only HD you're going to end up getting is some Googled HD wallpapers. And to get those sexy pictures onto the tablet, guess what! You need a laptop -.-, Atleast the 10.1 accept's USB slot's that can detect the camera's MMC unlike the iPad. Sorry for the rant, but I'm not here for fanboyism of which is better These are just a few reason's why the iPad in general isn't worth it. In the end you're going to buy a crap ton of over priced devices just to transfer a picture without the need for a laptop. Useless devices that too. But if you have the money, feel free
Then again, your choice As per your question, Sammobile may guide you on that quest. Doesn't matter what region it is, EU firmware in general does the job for NZ,AU,UK,US regions. Unless it's a 3G tablet then the SIM does the job of the regional settings, so it's all good.

I was actually thinking of buying the ipad as i really want some decent tablet apps... And while the market has a few it just dosent have the same depth that the app store has.
Wat do u think of the note 10.1 or new tf coming out? :L

Well as far as I know the iPad3 is currently known as the Photographer's tablet Since it basically does everything a photographer wants, contrast, gamma, etc. I do however apologise for the fuse blown on the previous Just thought it's best we equip the user's before they blow money on devices that they feel "Hey This isn't as good as I thought it was"
I do agree with you, the Android tablet market is kinda, weird and at an all time low atm, Samsung keeps making tablet's like hotcakes that they aren't even aware of the situation in the android market, What's worse is there are separate apps -.- I kinda liked iPad Appstore for one main reason, it only shows you what can be installed on the tablet and when it does, it makes sure that it works 100% on the tablet. The android market shows almost everything at some point that when consumers purchase an app, they are bummed to find out after downloading 700~1GB worth of files that "Unsupported Device" or some BSOD or worse, lag galore like no other, I've seen the refund's section being piled up lately because of new devices vs no app support.
You can however get the 11.6 if you want, should be coming right around the corner in Q2-Q3 as the 10.1 Note is nothing new, Giant graphics tablet. 10.2 is a waste too. Because of poor tegra2 chip that screws over the tablet. You'd think Nvidia the world's leading graphics team would have done something about this.
There has been some good reviews about the TF, but the TF Prime they say is mind boggling. Then again great tablet, but poor app support atm.

I'm still going for the 10.1" 1920x1080 Transformer Pad Infinity, but for people that like a 7" ( ) can go for the nexus tab.

I disagree. Tegra 3 and nvidia are way ahead it terms of developer support. That's why there are so many tegra 3 titles. And at the $200 price point this makes the kindle fire look, well, horrible. I am very pleased with the original specs. Yes krait may have been better but nvidia goes out of its way to lower price points and gets it soc in as many devices as possible. If you want something that has all the greatest hardware then u have to put out the $$$. At $200 I know the android community will flock to it and I hope consumers will to. All in all, I will get one and I hope the 7inch factor will be as useful as I think.

I can't comprehend why Google is being so stupid with their Nexus lineup, especially tablets. I would absolutely love to use one of these on vacations/business trips with an HDMI cable to take my media with me and still watch them on a TV. I want to fill this thing up with tv shows and movies (and even music if possible) but it seems like they don't give a crap. Not including a microsd card is a freaking deal breaker every damn time.
Not to change the subject, but if we do get multiple Nexus phones from the big manufacturers later this year.. and not a single one of them has a microsd card.. I'm going to pull my hair out and scream. haha

well then this probably isnt the tab for you. i dont think thats what they are going for. as far as the nexus devices go isnt like each major manufacturer making one? so it'll kind be up to them to include an sd card slot or not unless google requires them to exclude it.

That's what I am afraid of. They've skimped on the last two Nexus phones. The least they could do is offer 32gb standard. The GSM Galaxy Nexus has 16gb while the CDMA versions both have 32gb.
I would prefer to go Nexus with my next phone and tablet, but Google's got to get their head out of their ass first. It's way too early to rely on the cloud for all of your media needs - especially on a tablet that is wifi only. It's asinine.

If they do, I don't see what the problem with only 8GB is. They did that so you could have a nice tablet with good specs at the price of $200. If you want more storage, just pay the $50 for a 64GB micro sd card. A 64GB variant of the tablet would probably cost $300 anyway so you'd be getting a better deal than if it was already 64GB.
As for relying on cloud storage, I hate how we're being forced to do that. I ****ing hate cloud storage since streaming with sprint's 3G is slow as hell and it wouldn't be adequate for a tablet. Cloud storage should only become a norm when we have mobile satellite internet or some sort of internet that's fast and everywhere.

I disagree. Tegra 3 and nvidia are way behind it terms of developer support. That's why there are so few ics tegra 2 roms and all of them suck. Pumping funds in game developers to make titles exclusive is not what I would call dev support. But withholding drivers and disclosing specs is exactly what I would call neglect the devs.
The guys over at Linux aren't very fond of Nvidia. Linus Trovalds (creator of Linux) says "NVIDIA has been the single worst company we've ever dealt with!" and gives a big middle finger to the company on camera.
Basically, Nvidia is making tons of money off of multiple open source linux platforms without giving anything back to the open source community.

I know its already been replied to, but I wanted to reiterate this. I already did buy the 64GB card and I LOVE it. I can store as much crap as I want. I've watched an entire season of Archer on planes to/from Denver and in a hotel there while on business. I basically want to be able to load a tablet up and not have to worry about running out of new stuff to watch or listen to. I was able to do that with my old Nook Color that ran CM7 before I sold it on ebay. To not be able to do something so simple on the pure Google tablet (which will run circles around any Nook or Kindle) is just not right. Hopefully the leaked information is incomplete or inaccurate and it does have a microsd slot.
If they botch this then I will probably look to get an Asus tablet since it only took them about a month to bump the Transformer Prime up to ICS and the OG Transformer wasn't very far along after that. Google better do something amazing tomorrow if they want my $ -- and trust me I've been dying to give it to them for a while now. haha
So, what about USB otg support? Maybe that will solve storage problems.

OK so I got around to thinking about this "problem" of not having microsd slots on new devices, and I was wondering if anyone out there makes an accessory that attaches to the charger and has a card reader on it. Basically an external card reader. It wouldn't be the fastest for transferring files I'm sure, but it's better than giving up all the microsd cards my family has acquired.
I did some Googling and found this thing on Amazon -- does anyone know if it does what I described above? I can't tell if its meant for use with actual phones/tablets or just the computer.
Or if anyone knows of a product that does exist and can provide a link (or even a name) that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!
I have a touchpad 32gb and have CM9 on it with nightly build. ANdroid on it is not smooth at all and i could care less about webos. I am not seing any new update on this device, do you guys think, it'd be a good idea to sell it and buy a nexus 7 instead?

Since you don't like webOS, and aren't satisfied with the android experience on the TP, then I would say 'go for it'.
My android runs well, and I find webos an excellent os, it just lacks the apps android has.
What are the benefits of moving from a CM9 device with a working flash browser and large internal storage to a 8 or 16 gig Nexus 7.
For me there is no killer app or feature that justifies the need to move. Having tried JB I'm really not that fussed.
Yes, development has slowed but CM9 is more than adequate on the Touchpad. I would wait for the next Android OS upgrade and the next nice bit of kit to be released.

The quad core processor on the n7 goes a long way, as does the "built for android" aspect. Them there's jelly bean, and the higher resolution display.. The list goes on and on. I'm considering doing the same thing. My One X has a tegra 3 chip like the nexus 7 and provides a much better android experience.

personally i cant stand a smaller screen. the one on the touchpad is as small as i could tolerate. if you do a lot of traveling the 32gb could come in useful if you want to store larger files/more files etc.

To be honest storage is THE ONLY reason that has kept me from doing that yet. If google had a 299 for 32gb id be gone already. DOnt know why they dont even have that already
You guys crack me up, talking like storage space and screen size are the only factors in choosing a tablet. Our touchpad only gets used for web/forum browsing, etc. when our livingroom laptop is in use, so I couldn't care less how much it has. We've got phones, computers, media center, etc. for media...don't you? What the heck are you storing on that thing that needs so much space?

+1 and its a handy bedside TV , news reader and all round entertainment center. Its also great to take on holiday as it not as bulky as even my smallest laptop.
I use plex to stream my movies to my touch pad so I hardly use any space whatsoever on my touch pad. Though for whatever reason the speaker in my touch pad recently just crapped out on it. It crackles really bad.

I came from a og galaxy tab. I was really glad about the larger screen. I also have the 32 GB version.
Sure its only got cm9, I would like a more functional jelly bean ROM, but as it stands there isn't anything wrong with it.
Tbh, I think the touchpad holds up well even against the honeycomb tablets. And from that respect, the nexus 7 is only a "one gen" ahead of the touchpad.
I won't give up mine, mostly cause I love the touchstone charger, and its not like the touchpad was a bad deal to start with. I would however change to a nexus 10 if that ever gets made.

Unstable Wi-Fi is a headache. Otherwise the touch pad is a very capable android tablet.

Depends on what you are doing with the touchpad.
If you need a tablet with a long battery life -> change to the Nexus 7
If you need a small, light weight tablet -> change
If you want play the newest games with bombastic graphic -> change
If you want to be up-to-date with your Android Version, even if you dont know what the difference to the previous version is -> change
If you want to make Skype Calls with a working camera -> change
Maybe 1-2 more Points.
If you are using your TouchPad just at home to surf the web, read mails and check the weather, like I do, than stay with the TouchPad. Even if the development died finally, CM9 like we have it now, and the hardware of the Touchpad, will be more than enough for the next 1-3 years.
The only thing that could force me to change would be a Nexus 7 7" or 10" with 3G for less than 300€.
i don't think there is still a lot of people want a used touchpad, considering that a new 32 gb playbook is 100 dollars now
You might hold off shortly to see what happens with Openmobile. If it comes out this month as expected the best of both worlds will come together.

Just got the nexus 7 this weekend and loving it. It is definitely feeling small right now, but I'm getting used to it. The speed is awesome, even blows my gnex out of the water. App compatibility was my major reason to switch. The touch pad is still a nice product, my wife still uses webos on hers. But for an android junky, the 7 is the way to go.

I have both and I'm not really sure which one i prefer yet. I find myself grabbing the GNEX more than anything. I'm trying to get another N7 for my wife though, so we could be an All-Nexus household since she has a GNEX as well. For that silly reason alone I might sell the TP

At this point in time I really have no use for a device like this, considering that I already have a Nexus 7. When I do buy a tablet it will most likely be a Windows 8 Pro laptop/tablet hybrid. Something that I can get work done on when I need to work, and consume media on when I want to consume media. It is an attractive option though.

I agree! I have a nexus 7 Rocking AOKP rom and am happy, I use it for college and on the go work, So the downfall with the nexus is its sometimes cramped keyboard

Been waiting on this since I returned my TF700 (and the Prime before that). IMO the only missing thing is a microSD port, but I can live with that.
I'm going to wait a little bit, make sure Samsung are releasing proper sources for the Exynos, and that CyanogenMod will work on it.

Absolutely. After spending some time with a loaner N7 a few months ago, the N10 is exactly what I've been holding out for.
My enthusiasm is almost Apple-esque.

I was excited to see the specs or the Nexus 10, but the price for me is hard to justify. I know the 300ppi screen would be beautiful, but I would only really use that for movies and I am usually watching movies on my pc anyway. I have a tf201 right now and I only use it for movies and reading(which is a bear sometimes). Personally I think I will pick up a new nexus 7 32gb model. Just my opinion.
on the fence. On the one hand the specs are great. On the other, I think they totally missed the mark on design on both the tablet and the official cover. I am no apple fan boy at all, and constantly belittle many of their practices. Their hardware design is king though, in the tiny details. This cover with the back attachment looking bit is not clean looking, and the slightly rounded off sides to the tablet are a bad choice :imo:
The nexus 7 on the other hand is a beautiful design. Will have to play with both side by side and see which is for me. hdmi out is nice too...

yeah i figured... but dam 100$ for another 16GB is a bit high but what can we do...its a company just try to make money like us... i mean now days you can but a micro sd 32GB for like under 20$..
i wonder how much they would of increase the price if it did have a sd card reader ...

With no potential to attach a keyboard, is it really worth the money for a student ? How long will it take before this becomes out dated ?

You can attach a keyboard. Buy a bluetooth keyboard. It'll hook right up in less than a minute.
I can't guarantee the quality of this thing, but bluetooth keyboard cases exist.

Let's say I have a document open is it easy to highlight with my fingers ? Nexus 7 is attractive but with 1gb of Ram I just can't ponder it. And battery life ? Decent ?

e Nexus 7 is a powerful enough device with 1gb RAM which only sounds insufficient due to the 2gb devices that have come out(nexus 10). You could also consider the Asus Transformer series as you can get a keyboard dock with a built in battery and a full sized USB port, also a micro SD card slot but you won't get the vanilla android experience and timely updates like you will on the Nexus. It depends on what you prefer. Hope that helped.

Most tablets don't have specific keyboard attachments made by the manufacturer; Asus is the exception, if you think you need a keyboard, check out the Transformer series of tablets. I owned an Asus Tf700 tablet w/ the keyboard dock and IMO found the keyboard too small for accurate/quick typing. Instead, I use a Wacom Bamboo stylus and digitally "handwrite" my notes using two apps; 7Notes & Evernote. 7Notes is a keyboard replacement for handwriting text and actively converts your writing to typed text; in combo w/ Evernote, I love it. At the end of the day I have clean, organized & typed notes saved in the cloud on my Evernote account.
Me? I have a laptop w/ normal sized keyboard for typing; I bought my tablet for just that..a tablet lol.
My reasons for getting the N10:
- Pure Google/Android experience & almost instant updates. (2 yrs use is absolutely achievable w/ a Nexus device)
- Great specs & design doesn't look anything like an iPad + the display is gorgeous.
- And of course school; this includes taking notes as I'm also a college student.
Also, Highlighting text is pretty straight forward & easy for copy/paste actions.
I said to 1gb referring to the nexus 7. And using Bluetooth as a keyboard would kill battery. I'm on my phone will get to my desktop soon and research. I love the bonus power from the Asus tho.

I have the exact same requirement too. I plan on reading docs, books, making notes and watch movies/tv shows occasionally. I plan on getting the nexus 10 seeing as it has the best screen res amongst all android tablets, thereby making reading books like harrisons medicine more convenient.
That being said, I will probably sell the N10 and order a Note 10.1 2 with a full HD display the moment it becomes available(at some point in the future). From what I've seen, the productivity on a note is unparallelled amongst android tabs.

Waiting game is hard, but be strong and wait till CES comes around. For a student, having a Wacom stylus is a must and N10 simply doesn't fit the bill. Like a previous poster said, lets hope they release higher-res followup to the Note.

Exactly..I plan on buying the N10 when I go to the US in Janary. I won't be taking it if there is an announcement of a new Note at CES(which is unlikely, considering its only been a couple of months since they brought out the Note).

Battery life is fantastic. And in regards to "not enough apps for tablets", there's really nothing Google can do about that. That's up to app developers, not Google.
Not to mention, that Android tablets never reeall had the issues other tablets had.. most scale perfectly, and you wouldn't know they aren't for tablets (this goes for things like many games, web browsers, office aps, etc) . Those that do have problems are normally quick to get updates... frankly, the the issue is really overrated ..
I'm a student and I have been using it to study, although not take notes. I would not recommend this for taking notes because of the lack of the palm guard. Makes it very difficult and awkward to take notes on. As other posters have said, get the Galaxy Note 10.1 if you would like to take notes seriously. However, the Note 10.1 I ultimately decided against because the screen resolution got terrible reviews and I am huge on that, also the vanilla Android experience was too much for me to say no to. I really enjoy my Nexus 10 so far, and can get over the fact that there is no palm guard. Its a great device for the price overall

Sucks the N7 only has 1gb of Ram which means lag. No tab for me then.. at least for now. Screen reviews are amazing tho ...speed and screen size suggest longevity. If you don't think the N10 is worth $400, you have a rude awakening coming when you see how much comparable tablets are in the marketplace, especially ones with stylus support out of the box!

Is definitely hard to beat for many aspects but this tablet just isn't right for you, I can respect that although you may ultimately be displeased with other tablets for reasons that the nexus 10 excels in. I do think you ought to look into the note 10.1 if you are most concerned about note taking. Good luck finding the right gadget sir or madam
