decision HTC One S or Sony Xperia S - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Dear Xda Community ^_^
finally im able to upgrade my phone from a HTC Desire to something better... But i can´t decide what to get : HTC 1 S or the Sony Xperia S
i need a phone with good cam so:
first of all the software is not important for me i will run MIUI on it so HTC Sense is not important for me
pro Xperia S:
-dedicated camera button
- RGB Led
-Design
-720p Display
-highest dpi
-Normal LCD+Bravia Engine
-Hdmi output
-USB OTG
-32 GB Storage
negative Points:
- much thicker then the One S
-"only" a S3 processor
- smaller community
- cam software not that good
now the One S:
PRO
- Newest S4 processor
- better cam software (sense based miui roms)
- much thinner then the Xperia S
- its from HTC ( i never had ANY problem with my Desire and the Desire is still an awesome phone with the greatest community on the block after 2 years!)
Negativ
- LED Only 2 colours
- Pentile Matrix ( not that good i heard... )
- lower resolution
- only 16 gb storage ...
- i read that the one s has some build issues that the case has some problems
- no USB Otg
- no HDMI (yes with an adapter but then you can´t plugin a keyboard or something like on xperia s only with bluetooth @ one s... )
i really don´t know what phone to get ...
bot cost about the same here in Austria 360- 370 €
no fanboy comments pls

htc one s
hi,
the decision is very simple if you want a more faster procesor which is beating even the quad-core htc one x and gs3 in benchmarks go for the HTC One S....
it has the best processor in the market
and as for the pixel.... seriously anything above 200ppi is not visible to the naked eye(even less i guess)
even i own the HTC one s.... and it is amazing thought the camera is above par nothing wonderous.....

Go for Xperia S...
Hi,
Take the Xperia S because I had both devices in hand and I've now decided for the Xperia S .. S4 processor or not with ICS is the Xperia S Simply Perfect!
Display for me the best display on the market .. (the HTC One X: also has the best display)
Processor comes with ICS until full speed.
Design is class .. Well the HTC S is one small but when I think that in hand, I do not have a wow effect!
Take the Xperia S.
Best Camera..
Best display
Processor is very good.
:good: :good:

[Q] Which Android phone would you choose? Nexus/Xperia S/One S

Hi.
I'm going to change my Android phone (a LG Optimus 2x) and I have to choose between these 3 candidates: Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Sony Xperia S and HTC One S.
After looking at the specs of all of them, I think this is like:
- CPU: One S > Galaxy Nexus ~= Xperia S
- GPU: One S > Xperia S > Galaxy Nexus
- Storage: Xperia S > Galaxy Nexus ~= One S
- Camera: After looking at some reviews, I don't dare to say anything. One S looked pretty good, Xperia S looked pretty good too (the best video recorder I'd say), and Galaxy Nexus didn't look bad at all (but in dark photos in interiors).
The CPU is important to me (I like my phone to work smoothly), GPU is not so important, storage is not very important (I prefer higher speed than higher capacity), and camera is not important too (I take a few photos, but that doesn't mean I don't care if the phone has a crappy camera).
I hope you can help me choosing
Thanks!
personally, i would choose the one s.
I love the new sense 4 ui and i think it's the one which will work more smoothly.

Totally agree!!! ONE S! ownage!! but,[yeah] xperia S pretty good too heee~~~..
HTC One S is pretty good. The Qualcomm S4 is very powerful (more than Xperia's S3), the Adreno 225 is pretty good too, and the One S has more recent hardware than Xperia (like the bt module).
I've seen some benchmarks about the One S internal storage (NAND) and it's pretty fast, specially reading, and that's good.
I forgot to say in the first post but Android 4.0 for me is very important (I know the Xperia S will be updated soon), and I'll use this phone a lot to code apps.
At the moment, I would say the ranking is:
1º HTC One S
2º Galaxy Nexus
3º Xperia S
Thanks for your replies!
Is there any noticeable difference between the GNexus and One S screens? I ask it because of the different (but similar) resolutions (nexus has higher res but higher size too) and I could not see both phones powered on.

Well i havent tried One S,but i have to say i tried Galaxy Nexus and its amazing, great specs, great design and its flagship phone so its going to be supported by xda and google for some time.I cant describe how good impression of that phone i have, its amazing
If you want to use custom roms and root, I'd recommend you the nexus. It's community is good and you don't have to bother about hboot, s-on, s-off and so on.
You should look at Something Quad-Core, such as: HTC One X, Huawei Ascend D Quad, Huawei Ascend D Quad XL, ZTE Era, etc. Which would be better.

I prefer a powerful dual core than a quad core (except if that quad core has very powerful cores, to work at best performance at any workload). A quad core in a smartphone, from my point of view (as a computer engineer), is not worth, at the moment (more battery usage, not so efficient...).
I'm a coder so I'll use the phone to test my apps. And I like to 'play' with it (custom roms and stuff... I used to code stuff for the Linux kernel).
One S

Tottaly agree...If I could buy one now that would be HTC ONE S!!

And also used to code for the Wii
i'll go with the HTC One S
i'll go with xperia s because the camera is damn good...
i think about future Custom Rom that can be apply on it since freexperia teams are working greatly to build it.
more over, the battery for xperia s quiet good
im sorry if im mistaken..

[Q]Sony Ericsson LWW or HTC One V?

Hi all..after 3-4 days of research over the internet,i like these 2 phones a lot. But,i saw both these match each other almost in specs..just the screen size and form factor are different(and yes just the phone memory!! being different).
I just wanted to ask whether SE LWW display is pleasing to the eyes?I dont expect AMOLED like quality as in my S2..but i dont expect display to be like HTC wildfire either.
Please tell me how is the screen quality compared to HTC One V ??
I just love the LWW design and the lovely white color, but i need a decent screen to compliment the display
Thanks in advance
I suggest htc as it has bigger screen.and u will luv the sense ui which is exellent.display quality of lww is ok..nt much great for which u r leaving htc behind.

Hmm..so LWW's screen quality is SLIGHTLY not better than HTC One V right?
Well what you want but for me this HTC looks ugly.
no one knows exactly because no one had ever had both phone to compare in real life.
but in theory, seeing specs of both phone's screen resolution and ppi, one v should be better.
lww is mdpi but one v is hdpi.
edited: me myself own a lww and the screen is just ok. not too bad but also not the best.
Personally, I never liked the sense UI and HTC. I'll vote for LWW
In my opinion time scape is better....
htc had bigger screen but ugly style and ui...
LWW is great but dont buy the white cus its alittle bit slippery.
Get the black one

agree! vote for SE LWW (black)!
Both the cell phone has the same hearts. As they run the same processors, and have same amount of RAM.
The One V has a bigger screen, and higher resolution. So in case you prefer larger devices you can go for One V. One V will also take care of compatibility of games, as it has hdpi resolution.
On the other hand LWW has better audio. Its speakers are awesome. In terms of display, the phone is nice, but obviously not as good as the One V, since the One V has higher ppi.
Also, IMO, the LWW will perform better for daily use as the processor has to do much less work on mdpi rather than hdpi. And the Sense (its cool, the looks are great) eats lots of RAM too, which is not the case in LWW (after you remove the ****ware I mean).
Thank You,
Rick

did you try to hold both at the same time?
I did and Im sure that the white one is more slippery because of the Smoothness of the back cover.
HTC doesn't have front camera, so using skype is not comfortable.
I'm for LWW
Yo thanks guys..sorry i was offline for a day..This forum rocks BTW,didnt expect such a response..Kudos to you all. Thanks again..
Now coming to the point, i got hold of a HTC One X today. The phone being a quad core lagged a lot(seriously a lot).It couldnt even run a 720p video properly.I mean while video running i just changed the orientation and it just hanged!!! Never has my Galaxy S2 ever hanged while changing orientation in between playing videos
So i assumed(BIG ASSUMPTION) , if a quad core device from HTC behaves like that what can i expect from a single core?? HTC Sense is a serious resource Hogger I am going for the LWW And for the WHITE ONE Never ever owned a white phone

without any doubt HTC One V screen is MUCH better than the Sony LWW screen
Sony LWW doesn`t have BRAVIA engine so it`s screen cant even match Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini
one v
i own LwW, but thats because there was a price difference of about 8k (Pak rupee) otherwise would have gone for One V if the price was somewhat equal. plus you might want to compare Neo V and One V, because they both are closer to each other. LwW is comparatively low on specs as compared to those two
the screen is good, i mean my LwW colors are better than Evo3D of HTC, i cant tell about One V though. and i like the Sense UI, plus HTC has more resale value, in our market atleast.
Screen size: One V: 3.7 inches. LwW: 3.2 inches
Internal memory: One V: 4GB. LwW: 320MB
rest is almost same.
Cheers
I have wt9i ( LWW ), and I really like it. It is very fast ( doesn't lag ) and it has ear rocking speakers with great sound quality. Also, I would suggest you to install v6 Supercharger, because it really helps you get more performance and the battery lasts a bit longer.
V6 Supercharger: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
But I scare abt HTC video recording...
In HTC HD video recording usually they use H.263 codec to decode and the sound format sure will stick to .amr , although it make it file very small but the sound quality is worst...
I dunno One V got improve abt HD video recording but my xperia mini recorded 720p HD video is even better than my friend's Sensation XE 720p HD video recording.
Guys help required again..I was about to order the white LWW , but the seller said its out of stock !!! Please tell me is the black LWW good looking??White was damn sexy

I suggest you an Xperia U. It is available in India.

[Q] Xperia P vs Galaxy s Advance

Tell me, which one's better?
Specs: Xperia P has better screen resolution (and Sony Bravia Engine), while Galaxy Advance has Super AMOLED screen, but the Xperia P's "whitemagic" is proofed to be the brightest screen on an Android Device so it beats sAMOLED. Xperia P has an 8 mpx camera and a pysical camera button.
Xperia P has a little smaller battery which is also unremovable which makes rooting harder.
I don't know about the Galaxy Advance but Xperia P will get ICS within a month and also has Flash Player built in for Gingerbread. The Xperia P also doesn't have a MicroSD card slot.
Software: Personally I think Sony has a better UI than Samsung but they have alot bloatware apps. I also think the Xperia P has an awesome design.
If you're a root user then I think I would recommend the Galaxy Advance since unremovable batteries are not very good.
If else you might want to read more about TouchWiz and Xperia UI, I've never had a Samsung Phone myself but I hate the UI and I think Sony are only ones who make good looking Software and Hardware.
If the screen size doesn't matter and neither the camera I would recommend the Xperia U whish has a smaller screen but a removable battery, my mom has one and it's really good except for the pretty bad 5mp camera.
Also I think the Xperia S is only like 50$ more and it's the best screen on a smartphone yet, It's even better than the SIII and One X.
I don't wanna change your mind but personally I would recommend the Galaxy Nexus or wait for the new Nexus phones. They will get the OS updates first and won't get outdated.

Help: Xperia Mini Vs Desire C

Hi dear fellows,
I want to buy a mid ranged Android Smart Phone. I want you guys to help me to chose between HTC Desire S and Xperia Mini?
According to me the difference is:
Desire C:
Released Date: August 2012, So newer phone.
Slower processore
Larger Screen
ICS Capacitive Buttons
Larger Screen
Sense UI
Internal Memory is 4GB
Xperia Mini:
1 Year Old Mobile
Faster Processor
Smaller Screen
More Pixal density
More Portable
I am more inclined towards Xperia mini simply because of better processor, but larger screen and slimmer form factor confuses me, i text a lot as well, so bigger screen is better or if 3.0 inch screen is enough for alpha numeric keypad typing with T9?
Kindly share your thoughts and help me to make a choice.
One last thing, in pakistan desire cost about 17000 RS and Xperia mini 13000 RS, and price matters for me too.
xperia all the way
better gpu
better processor
better development support
front facing camera

Hi i would prder xperia mini why?
because it has a 1ghz processor that can be overclocked upt o 1,6ghz the phone runs smoother because of its smaller screen,
compared with desire c: the desire has a bigger screen but lower cpu that means its laggier and also it runs ICS on 800mhz?? very bad its too slow, ics will drain your battery and with that low level processor games will be be laggy and slow
Our xperia has a lot of avaible roms to get the maximum out. If you write many sms you should buy the mini pro because writing sms on the screen is very hard.
Pro for Mini:
Better Processor
Much smoother
Better ROM support
Old but gold
GB support much faster and stable than ICS
you wont regret it,but i think you should buy mini pro
Well thanks for replies guys, can you tell me kindly if over heating is 100% removed in all sets of Xperia mini? and is official ICS not that lagy on Xperia mini?
I can't buy mini pro cuz i dont use qwerty keyboard at all, it feels too slow for me as compared to my Nokia style alpha numeric T9 input method, i sort of fly through that.
I myself would buy live with walkman. At the time I wanted to buy an android phone, the only choice was xperia mini and mini pro.
Just don't like the keyboard so I went for lovely mini.
It's great and I'm feeling great with it.
Lww has two pros against mini.
Bigger screen 3.2
Front facing camera
Dual speeker
Oh, that was three

mini vs hdc?
hahaha
mini is the most winner here, but with 3" screen.
my advice, if u wanna HTC line-up, save ur money n wait until HTC Desire X released or Xperia's next generation.
2013, Sony will focus on newer JB phone.
if you have problem with t9,you can type in landscape mod with full qwerty keyboard!
in benchmarks, Xperia mini is the Winner!!
also Xperia mini is officaly supported by Cyanogen Team.it has Stable version of Cm9!!!
Xperia is the Best
xperia is way better, it has better processor and qwerty keyboard, you can use it for emulators, it's really cool
Guys thanks for the help, i bought Xperia Mini now, now being a buddy in android line, i have few more questions, i hope the knowledge can help many of us:
I charged phone for the first time, LED light turned green when phone charged about 90%? should i unplug phone at this 90% charge?
Should i stay with GB version .62 if i don't get over heating problem or should i jump to ICS, as i read GB is way more stable and fast, and ICS has almost nothing special which force us to jump to ICS, like hotspot, apps2sd etc is all in GB too?

I'd stay on gingerbread, more stable and faster and better for gaming.
No you needn't unplug, you can, but you can charge until 100%, too

Moving from XMP to XP

Is it worth changing my old Mango for an Xperia Pro? Have anyone had both of them? I know they are basically the same phones, but XP has bigger screen - that's the main reason I'd like to buy one. How're the slider and the keyboard?

Well...the only different between both phone are Xperia Pro has....
1. larger screen with 265 ppi pixel density (XMP got only 192 ppi)
2. Got 8MP camera (XMP only have 5MP)
3. 1500 mAh battery (XMP has 1200 mAh battery)
4. GPU, RAM, Internal Memory, Wifi, Bluetooth and etc are pretty much the same....
but in the end its not how much better specs Xperia Pro has than XMP but how much custom rom, custom kernel and support by dev on Xperia Pro than XMP...
Well I won't recommend you to buy Xperia Pro, because there won't be much support from sony and I don't think buying a 2011 device in 2014 is good. Instead go with some other device in same range with better support.
Just my advice
Cheers,
AJ
@iPusak Gaoq™, thanks for the reply, but it wasn't too helpful
@Abhinav2, I am aware of that, but there are not many phones available in my country with HW keyboard, and these which are there, are either older or too expensive As for the support, there is none since ICS
