Help: Xperia Mini Vs Desire C - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hi dear fellows,
I want to buy a mid ranged Android Smart Phone. I want you guys to help me to chose between HTC Desire S and Xperia Mini?
According to me the difference is:
Desire C:
Released Date: August 2012, So newer phone.
Slower processore
Larger Screen
ICS Capacitive Buttons
Larger Screen
Sense UI
Internal Memory is 4GB
Xperia Mini:
1 Year Old Mobile
Faster Processor
Smaller Screen
More Pixal density
More Portable
I am more inclined towards Xperia mini simply because of better processor, but larger screen and slimmer form factor confuses me, i text a lot as well, so bigger screen is better or if 3.0 inch screen is enough for alpha numeric keypad typing with T9?
Kindly share your thoughts and help me to make a choice.
One last thing, in pakistan desire cost about 17000 RS and Xperia mini 13000 RS, and price matters for me too.

xperia all the way
better gpu
better processor
better development support
front facing camera

Hi i would prder xperia mini why?
because it has a 1ghz processor that can be overclocked upt o 1,6ghz the phone runs smoother because of its smaller screen,
compared with desire c: the desire has a bigger screen but lower cpu that means its laggier and also it runs ICS on 800mhz?? very bad its too slow, ics will drain your battery and with that low level processor games will be be laggy and slow
Our xperia has a lot of avaible roms to get the maximum out. If you write many sms you should buy the mini pro because writing sms on the screen is very hard.
Pro for Mini:
Better Processor
Much smoother
Better ROM support
Old but gold
GB support much faster and stable than ICS
you wont regret it,but i think you should buy mini pro

Well thanks for replies guys, can you tell me kindly if over heating is 100% removed in all sets of Xperia mini? and is official ICS not that lagy on Xperia mini?

I can't buy mini pro cuz i dont use qwerty keyboard at all, it feels too slow for me as compared to my Nokia style alpha numeric T9 input method, i sort of fly through that.

I myself would buy live with walkman. At the time I wanted to buy an android phone, the only choice was xperia mini and mini pro.
Just don't like the keyboard so I went for lovely mini.
It's great and I'm feeling great with it.
Lww has two pros against mini.
Bigger screen 3.2
Front facing camera
Dual speeker
Oh, that was three

mini vs hdc?
hahaha
mini is the most winner here, but with 3" screen.
my advice, if u wanna HTC line-up, save ur money n wait until HTC Desire X released or Xperia's next generation.
2013, Sony will focus on newer JB phone.

if you have problem with t9,you can type in landscape mod with full qwerty keyboard!
in benchmarks, Xperia mini is the Winner!!
also Xperia mini is officaly supported by Cyanogen Team.it has Stable version of Cm9!!!

Xperia is the Best

xperia is way better, it has better processor and qwerty keyboard, you can use it for emulators, it's really cool

Guys thanks for the help, i bought Xperia Mini now, now being a buddy in android line, i have few more questions, i hope the knowledge can help many of us:
I charged phone for the first time, LED light turned green when phone charged about 90%? should i unplug phone at this 90% charge?
Should i stay with GB version .62 if i don't get over heating problem or should i jump to ICS, as i read GB is way more stable and fast, and ICS has almost nothing special which force us to jump to ICS, like hotspot, apps2sd etc is all in GB too?

I'd stay on gingerbread, more stable and faster and better for gaming.
No you needn't unplug, you can, but you can charge until 100%, too

[Q] X10 mini or X8?

I currently have a HTC Magic but I am getting annoyed with the lack of decent stable roms for it so I have been shopping around and for my budget I have a choice of either an X10 mini or the new X8 but wanted to find out which would be better as I understand the X8 is like the X10 mini but with a bigger screen and a lower camera
Dony buy either of the phones as they are dum.
I was a xperia x1 user and my x1 stopped working as it had gone in water.
I bought a x8 and my friend also had saved moey to buy a x10 mini pro.
But let me tell you that its nor worth thr money you are spending and the X1 had 13 buttons on the front bottom the xperia just had 3 buttons on the front bottom.
There isnt any direct call button, you will have to go back from the menu to make a call.

With a alternate Homelauncher (f.ex. ADW) you can bind the middle key with the dialer if you are already at the homescreen.
...and for the X8 and X10 use the sony-ericsson.com comparison tool and try to look at the phones at a market.

Sorry to sound dumb but isn't the X1 a WM device? the 2 I asked about are both Android devices I only ask about these 2 devices as I hate WM and Apple iOS. My other oprion is to strech my budget for a HTC Wildfire (all of these handsets would be pay as you go)

I have looked at the comparison charts but I am more interested in 'real life' comparison rather then a spec for spec comparison

i had also a x1 wm phone, and now i have x10 mini pro and had x10, x10 mini and htc wildfire....
If you will have a small phone get the mini, i only have the pro becouse i use the qwerty keyboard much.... the mini/pro is a great phone, but the wildfire has a ugly screen, then you use a picture as wallpaper is looks ugly.....
so if i was you i will look at x10 mini or x8....
my 2 cents

Cheers for that I am not much of a qwerty keypad user I prefer the old T9 style predictive keypad as I don't text often and I can text a lot quicker with a keypad rather then a qwerty. I know what you mean about wallpapers on the wildfire as I had previously had a Tattoo with a similer size screen
My thought
Personally I like more X8. I've got X10 mini pro two months ago. I like it, It is nice device but small resolution restrict from getting all those great apps so it is not ideal. I also thought I will use HW keyboard a lot but most of time I'm just lazy to do it. On screen keyboard could be good enough for me. Camera with autofocus is nice but I have problem with fingerprints on lens everytime I check lens out. Such small phone is hard to avoid touching the lens. And also AF is not working perfectly. I experienced decently blured pictures from time to time (just bad focus, not shutter problem). So, with X8 you can save some money and still get slightly more usable device thus better resolution. Personally I'm thinking about switch to X8 from my X10 mini.

the x10 mini has a good t9 keyboard, but the x8 comes with a on-screen qwerty keyboard like the x10 and not as the mini's keyboard
disreguard adils3d's juvenile comments lol...
Anyway i have a mini pro, and its a gr8 little phone but i bought it specificly because i wanted a small smartphone and a taste of android with T9 style onsceen keypad for sms...using the slider more for emails etc.
The X8 Depends if a bigger screen is more important to you and your not bothered about the lesser camera fucntions and like an onscreen qwerty apart from that i dont think there is any difference apart from price.
In the uk o2 are selling the X8 for £130!!!!
unfortunatly when I went to get the x10 mini today from CEX it had been sold so in the end I ended up getting a HTC Hero instead as they didn't have anymore x10 mini's within my price range. The X10 mini was going for £130 unlocked/sim-free but as it was sold I got a HTC Hero for £120 + £15 to get it unlocked

As a X10 Mini owner, I'd say it depends a lot on its usage.
I got the X10 Mini because I already owned an Omnia HD with great camera and multimedia capabilities and I needed a second device to handle another operator.
The X10 Mini is just that, a great secondary device with great software capabilities because of Android and spectacular performance. It does hold the title of world's smallest smartphone.
However.. the small screen and resolution limits too much the android experience, making some tasks like web browsing a bit painful, not to mention software incompatibility.
For a better smartphone experience, the X8 will be a lot better.
However... for a good android smartphone experience, I'd choose none.
Given Sony Ericsson's back story with firmware updates, I wouldn't get an android from them at all..
Android apps are too much version-dependent, and SE is still late to bring an update to Éclair when every other manufacturer has moved to Froyo.
They even ridiculed themselves to the point of launching a phone with a 2 generations old firmware, the X8.
That's like launching a laptop with Windows XP right now.
And no one knows when the updates are coming.. The X10 was launched a year ago there's still no update..
All we know is that they've NEVER updated any android from them, ever.
And looking at their background SE's background with their Symbian smartphones (laughable, to say the least), I wouldn't count too much on their support.

That is another reason why I was glad they had sold the X10 mini and went for my HTC Hero which already had 2.1-update1 on it and the unlock for the HTC was actually £5.99 via a reputable ebay member express-codes so £120 for HTC Hero w/ 2.1-update1 + £5.99 unlock made for a much better choice instead of £130 for a X10 mini
I have both of them.
And if the camera was the same in the x8 as in the x10 mini pro, I think the x8 was the winner.
It works faster, batterylife is longer, the screens bigger size make a real diffrence.
I use the x10 pro as everyday use and the x8's just for fun, I simply love the x8 with the exeption of the camera.
And about updates, who cares really?
If there dosent come a official realese, im sure there will come one here.
Not something there is giving me a headic

[Q] Xperia P vs Galaxy s Advance

Tell me, which one's better?
Specs: Xperia P has better screen resolution (and Sony Bravia Engine), while Galaxy Advance has Super AMOLED screen, but the Xperia P's "whitemagic" is proofed to be the brightest screen on an Android Device so it beats sAMOLED. Xperia P has an 8 mpx camera and a pysical camera button.
Xperia P has a little smaller battery which is also unremovable which makes rooting harder.
I don't know about the Galaxy Advance but Xperia P will get ICS within a month and also has Flash Player built in for Gingerbread. The Xperia P also doesn't have a MicroSD card slot.
Software: Personally I think Sony has a better UI than Samsung but they have alot bloatware apps. I also think the Xperia P has an awesome design.
If you're a root user then I think I would recommend the Galaxy Advance since unremovable batteries are not very good.
If else you might want to read more about TouchWiz and Xperia UI, I've never had a Samsung Phone myself but I hate the UI and I think Sony are only ones who make good looking Software and Hardware.
If the screen size doesn't matter and neither the camera I would recommend the Xperia U whish has a smaller screen but a removable battery, my mom has one and it's really good except for the pretty bad 5mp camera.
Also I think the Xperia S is only like 50$ more and it's the best screen on a smartphone yet, It's even better than the SIII and One X.
I don't wanna change your mind but personally I would recommend the Galaxy Nexus or wait for the new Nexus phones. They will get the OS updates first and won't get outdated.

Questions about Sola

Hi
I want to know a few things about Xperia Sola before buying one
The most important thing to me is games , can Sola handle games average and big ones??? . And what can you tell me about the Sola's camera??.
Since it has a duel core cpu is it good for multitasking , is it fast or slow .
If you had to choose between Sola and Arc S ,which one would you prefer?
And one last thing , for how long do you think Sony will keep supporting Xperia Sola?
Thanks in advance
no one has Xperia Sola?????

Sola is the same as Xperia P and I have used an Xperia P for a bit. It will run most games fine and they are updating the compatability for the chipset as well. It is pretty smooth and the dual core should be good for multitasking. Its only real weakness is the 512 of ram it has which is not the greatest. If the 2011 line of Xperias can run ICS then the sola should too. Sony is definitely going to continue supporting the NXT series of phones and has done a good job so far. Sola is much better than Arc S.
For me Sola looked ideal on paper, but little after getting the phone it was rather a let down compared to the alternative with which i tested out earlier (Samsung galaxy ace 2, which was 15% cheaper). The only thing this phone is better at if movie capture quality and if it's not really that important I'd recommend everyone to choose Ace 2.

Why is that, the Ace 2 is the same hardware with a arguable worse screen? It does have a little more RAM which is nice, but it is one ugly phone and Samsung Ui is trash.

[Q] Buying Xperia U or Xperia P?

I'm thinking of buying the Xperia U but I have a few questions.
How is the call sound quality, headphone quality and loudspeaker quality like?
How is the screen quality like and how are the graphics like on high end HD games?
Is the browsing very fast on this phone? Does zooming in and out on desktop websites lag a lot?
Has anyone's screen stopped working or has their been any hardware failures that have happened to a lot of xperia u's?
Finally, how long do you think it will be before the phone becomes out of date? I want to use it for maybe 3 years after purchase so I need to know if it is future proof.
Sorry for asking so many questions but I want to be entirely sure the phone is ideal for me. Thanks if you bothered to read this far and double thanks if you answered any of my questions.
In order.

Brilliant but storage is an issue

I would recommend you to increase the budget a bit and buy Xperia P instead Xperia U.
Cause 1GB RAM will give you better smoothness than XU's 512 MB RAM.
Also SONY is still keeping XP in their mind while releasing Official updates like JB. [XU have Unofficial JB Port]
No offense to the XU users. It's just what i think that while buying android handset, it's better to go for a better hardware spec. Off course if u plan to increase your budget.
Guy above is right, i still regret buying xperia sola, when i could pay 30 more euros and buy xperia p... It is MUCH better and worth the money... I also think that its developing community is more active than xperia u... No offense of course
Also, u should know that a device like mine it is said that because sony reached the target of sales for this device, now they dont give a damn about it.... We all rely on xda to get jelly bean while xperia P DOES HAVE official jelly bean from sony...
Finally, technology is evolving SO FAST that u need to buy an expensive device so that it can compete with future device... (my opinion)
Does the extra 512MB RAM make a big difference from xperia u to xperia p? The processor and GPU are the same but stuff like screen and camera is better on the xperia p
Trust me, xperia sola with 512 mb of ram barely gives 150mb available, logically xperia p should give u at LEAST 300 mb of free ram...
As far as i know, true gaming devices must have at least 1gb of ram...
Any other comments on the Xperia u? What do you use it for on a daily basis?
If u dont play heavy games then it will do the job BUT IF U:
1) Are sure that 4 gb of storage is not enough (like me). Remember xperia u cannot take sd card...
2) Want to play heavy games, i am pretty sure that xperia p will do better
If u meet either the first or second condition then i urge u to buy xperia p but if u dont then feel free to buy xperia p... My sola is the same as xperia u but i can use an sd card and i must say that since i am not a hard core gamer it does the job pretty damn well
Does the xperia p have a slightly yellow tinted screen? In some videos I have seen the the white looks slightly yellow. Can anyone with an xperia P confirm whether the white is pure white or tinted yellow? Also, after upgrading the firmware to jellybean on Xperia P, do you get various problems with apps such as gallery app not working and does the phone lag or does it get faster? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be sure before I purchase it

Actually there is no device exists which is completely error free. You just have to make it right by your self. The situation is quite same for Android Update also. Check the General Section, you will find a thread there named as - Xperia P JB Review.
Many users posted there JB experience there. That should be useful for you. And as for the Yellow Tint, Sony took care of that issue, after first few shipments of all of their models.
Hey guys ! I'm Running rooted and S-off HTC Incredible S. Its okay but outdated now. We are fully up to date in software, but the hardware is behind. Looking for a new phone is so difficult right now..
I have a budget of $300-$400 Aus. Samsung SIII is a little old now, N4 has no storage.. I wandering is Sony a good option? Would you recomend any Sony device in that price range?
Thanks

Call sound quality-good
Headphone quality-sounds good , the default headphones aren't good enough u'll surely need to buy a new 1
Loudspeaker-Totally disappointed by the loudspeaker
screen quality-Display is just awesome with 280ppi
Browsing used to lagg when I had too many apps installed..otherwise it works good
No hardware faults as such
Hahahaha there is nothing called as future-proof..U is already outdated, maybe you should go for P instead.

Moving from XMP to XP

Is it worth changing my old Mango for an Xperia Pro? Have anyone had both of them? I know they are basically the same phones, but XP has bigger screen - that's the main reason I'd like to buy one. How're the slider and the keyboard?

Well...the only different between both phone are Xperia Pro has....
1. larger screen with 265 ppi pixel density (XMP got only 192 ppi)
2. Got 8MP camera (XMP only have 5MP)
3. 1500 mAh battery (XMP has 1200 mAh battery)
4. GPU, RAM, Internal Memory, Wifi, Bluetooth and etc are pretty much the same....
but in the end its not how much better specs Xperia Pro has than XMP but how much custom rom, custom kernel and support by dev on Xperia Pro than XMP...
Well I won't recommend you to buy Xperia Pro, because there won't be much support from sony and I don't think buying a 2011 device in 2014 is good. Instead go with some other device in same range with better support.
Just my advice
Cheers,
AJ
@iPusak Gaoq™, thanks for the reply, but it wasn't too helpful
@Abhinav2, I am aware of that, but there are not many phones available in my country with HW keyboard, and these which are there, are either older or too expensive As for the support, there is none since ICS
