dropbox & 50 gigs - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If i skipped the drop box signup on first load can i still get the 50 gigs now when i sign up on my phone?

That's what I did. Already had an account and logged in a couple of days after using the phone, 50gb appeared.
Sent from my GT-I9300

what would happen.. say if I logged into my new one.. got the 50gb and logged into another brand new one?
Would I get 100gb? or just the 50gb since I got it once already

Once only per device.

But if I have 2 Sgs3 devices and 1 drop box account will it give me 100gig?
On my Galaxy SIII

The question is; what will happen with the content when the validity time ends!

It wont be removed instantly, you will have a grace period with dropbox. Its as if you cancelled your subscription to higher capacities.

Can you not register each device with its own account and set up a shared folder link from one to another?

Does it expire 2 years after you register. I've had my phone since release and still haven't registered. Mainly because I don't really understand what you would use it for.

@ZaJules
Create a 2nd Account and share the folder with the other Account.
I Hope you have 64GB S3 + 64GB Micro SD-Card. Or dont you download these Files to the S3? :good:
For your Information:
You dont get 50 but 48GB from that Promotion.
With the free 2GB you have 50 :fingers-crossed:
After the peroid you cant upload more files, till you have reached the Size that your are allowed to use anymore.
Regards.

Nothing really. Unless you have a burning desire to put everything under your Google account.
At this time, Dropbox is actually a better solution as a lot of third-party applications already work with it. Until Google Drive functionality is adopted by these apps, Google Drive is of little value to me.
I agree. Unless it has some amazing new integration with Android, i'll just stick with Dropbox. It already works so well with android, plus the new auto-upload feature. Not seeing any reason to switch.
Microsoft sky drive is better too since it has same desktop app like drop box that syncs everything and you get to keep 25 gigs if you signed up for it originally otherwise 7 gigs.

I've got a buddy at work that's a hardcore Windows Mobile fanboy and has raved about the Sky Drive. Does it integrate with Android though? I couldn't find a way when i looked into it a few months back.

I agree with you about sky drive, but correct me if I'm wrong, it does not support android or has an android app.
No, but with lte through Web browser it's not so bad.

Here you go guys. This is the comparison chart, and its confirmed sky drive does not supported android.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/skydrive/compare
o yes just so you know google has a sync app for windows just like dropbox and skydrive.
I agree with above. When and if Google drive receives the same leave of 3rd party support, then I'll leave drop box. Google drive reminds me of the hacked app gdrive from back in the day that took advantage of a JavaScript bug in gmail and let u use it as a personal online storage

Google Docs has been around for a while, you have a 2gb limit. It was said to be Gdrive back when it came out. I guess they redirect you there to the meantime, until Gdrive is opened up to all.
Google docs is now google drive. Its updated to 5gb. Also has a pc app that functions like dropbox.

It's taking a long time for Google to prepare my Google drive. I'm on the grandfathered 20gb plans not sure if that's delaying the activation.
Update: Lol 1 min after my post Google emailed me my drive is ready. Took around 12 hours from initial request.

You have to complete 5 out of 7 of the processes in the Get Started page on your drop box account.

All the new HTC phones I beleive not just the Evo.
How do you get it? I just looked at my storage in dropbox and I only have 5gb
Edit: nevermind it just updated

I didn't know either how to get the extra space, they defiantly throw a few hoops in the way but it's not to hard. Check your e-mail for the 25GB bonus e-mail. Click it you have to do 5 out of the 7 things listed. What I did was do a step, go back to the steps page & refresh to make sure it counted the step. Once I completed 5 of the steps it was instant got a tray notification in the corner. I skipped the invite friends step, just installed it on 2 computers was pretty easy.

If you sign in with an existing account it should just automatically update after a little while.
How can you check your storage space on stop box .....
Having an EVO gets you the most storage possible lol ... 16gb internal ...+ 64gb sd card .... + 25gb of dropbox + 5 gb google drive ...... Lol good times right there
110gb of space ...... My first computer had 1.2gb hard drive and the drive itself was about 6 times the size of this phone

Sign into dropbox and click on the little down arrow next to your name and it will open a little window which shows your space used and space available.
Can someone tell me their exact steps for what they did to get the extra 25 GB? I have signed into the app and on the website both on my phone and have yet to gain the extra space. What do I have to do to get those 5 of 7 requirements fulfilled that people were talking about?

When you go to the website, hit the tab on the left that says "Get Started" (or just click here). Those are the steps people are talking about. Having said that, I had to send them two support emails from the app on my phone before I got the extra space.
I did it during the setup but it never went through. Just upload something to it, got my email instantly after I did that.

I had the same problem getting my bonus space; had and existing account and had completed all 7 steps previous to this promotion too, so wasn't sure how it would get triggered. Uploaded 1 file directly from the phone app (not through camera upload) and the toast message popped almost immediately on my laptop. They should really make this a bit clearer.

[Q] Dropbox doesn't have the advertised extra 25gb...

I suspect this is from changing ROMs?
I have added dropbox via the setup tool on the evo lte...
what do?
I got my extra 25 gb. Doubt it has anything to do with switching Roms. But I signed in on my evo when it was stock. Then about maybe 20mins later I got a email telling me it was available

You have to take few extra steps to get the extra space. You may want to check your email.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I got mine.. try going through the 'Setup' app and adding your dropbox account through there. Maybe if you just sign in on the app itself it won't do it? I don't remember how I did it now but I know it didn't take long for the extra space to get on there.
You have to get a link in your email and go through dropboxs setup steps.
Flashing roms hasn't changed mine

Had the same problem , had to go thru customer support. After about four mails back & forth they gave it to me. Pain in the ass.
According to HTC website, you have to access dropbox, and sign in from your phones BROWSER.
This worked for me. I signed in via the browser, and then I clicked a few thinks. I believe going through the getting started part on my phone browser granted me the extra 25 gb. This work for me and my fiancee.
Hope that helps.
just signed in on my phone (nothing else) and 10seconds later, got the message saying i got the 25.8gb of drop box storage.
OP here,
I found the email in my inbox about completing the neccessary steps for the additional space. It was like,
install on a computer
upload something
install on another computer
log in on a mobile device
other things
But still not showing. I will fiddle with it tonight at home.
I got it. Had to complete about 6 things before I was rewarded my space. I have a total of 28gb just by doing things it wanted me to (refferals and such) yay!

after you follow the prompts use the dropbox app to browse around or upload something and the space will show up

I think we can assume it will simply drop down to the default value and you will loose everything on there, I think we can also assume you will get warnings from dropbox prior to this informing you it is going to happen. To keep you're 50 gig you'll have to start paying.
I am guessing you either pay or lose it, up to you.
I wouldn't worry about it just now, because people's data is valuable I would imagine dropbox will email when it's going to end, so you can transfer files to your PC.
Also because the files are synced across devices they will be in your phone and PC (if you have dropbox installed) so they should be safe.
They will not be allowed to delete your data without your saying.
You can still use the space just can't add anymore.

You can set it to sync or not, I sync as I don't use it that much.
hope they allow use to keep the 50GB if nt more then 10 millon ppl is going to complain
In 2 years 50gb will be nothing special. So they will probably let you just keep using it and offer something bigger and better like 1TB or 10TB for small payment.
Remember when gmail was announced with 1GB storage? Everyone could not believe that they will give away all that space for free. How times changed.
As far as I'm aware, whatever of the space you have used will remain until you remove any items from Dropbox. As you remove stuff, the 50Gb will drop accordingly. Don't quote me on that, but I'm sure I read that somewhere!

By then Skynet would have taken over and cloud storage would be the last of your worries.
They l warn you b4 its getting over...
You can still use the stored data, but add nothing more until you remove the files taking the added space.
But isn't there a max time for your things to be stored? Like after five years of inactivity everything will be deleted?

[Q] Thinking of what will happen after my Dropbox 50GB has end. Can i Renew it?

Hey guys.. what will happen if my 50GB Free Dropbox Storage finishes after approx. 2 years?
Will the data I have be all deleted?

You can renew for 100GB for $100 a year.
I don't think they'll delete the data right away, but they will eventually.

Your data will not be deleted but you can not upload or sync any data after the 2 years.
If you take data or delete data than your not be able to use the free storage again.
You can after the 2 years pay for the storage to use it as now.
