ok root explorer not working for me i want to add some notifications to the system\media\audio\notification directory with no luck tried terminal using
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
but no luck anyone have any ideas or know how to make cm9 look in other locations for files
got it but
messaging is not seeing my mp3 file guess i need to convert it to ogg weird how it will not browse to other directories for ringtones and notifactions
nope
Weird converted files to ogg but they do not show copied to both ringtone and notification dir and no go
Im not sure of this is true for cm9 but on eclipse when I drop a mp3 with root explorer it doesn't see it but in my settings its there. Also you might be able to use ringdroid to automatically set the mp3 as notification or ringtone?

As someone else suggested in the CM9 OP thread, Zedge is a good way to go. It's what I use and it's a pretty decent app. GL!

I could find nothing in the thread about changing where it looks for ringtones or notifications went through all 40 pages.
I can see it in my folder but not as a ringtone or notification it was a mp3 then i converted it to ogg because that is what the rest of the files are but still cannot see it to choose it I have never had problems doing this before

Glad you figured it out! The reason you couldn't get that command to work was because it's the wrong one for our phone. For one, we aren't using the yaffs2 filesystem type and as such that is the wrong block device as well. For our phone (in an ADB shell) it's:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /system
Also:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/null /system
also works if you're on CM7/CM9.
But the better thing to do besides all of that (and an easier way) is to just put the files (MP3, Ogg, etc.) on your sdcard:
Code:
Ringtones : /sdcard/Ringtones
Notifications: /sdcard/Notifications
Alarms: /sdcard/Alarms
After doing that you'll have them listed in the sound selection for their respective settings.

I'm rooted and I'm running GingerBlur. I still have no luck editing it even though I am rooted. I just don't know the proper way to edit it.

Right... I dont see a green plus so there must be something wrong with my version of the app.
Do you think you could help me out and upload your .apk of Smart actions? Would be much appreciated!
After a fair bit of detective work, I found that I was actually missing the "SocialLocations.apk" app which creates location triggers... weird.
I pulled it from a /system dump on xda and problem solved!

Greetings!
Wondering if anyone knows of any sources for the stock Google apps for Honeycomb 3.2.
I installed HC (per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758 -- and am also going to try this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393904 )
I've been looking forward to HC, and am glad I finally bit the bullet, rooted, and installed it. But I'm still left wanting the stock, un-Sense'd experience.
The gmail app from HTC seems largely untouched. Unfortunately, that's not the case for calendar & contacts. Anyone know where I can get those apk's? (And if it's as simple as getting a hold of those and/or flashing them from CWM?)
I looked around on Google, but didn't find a good candidate to use (admittedly, I'm new to this, and am not sure what should work and what to avoid.)
Thanks, folks!
Jeff

Does your system/app contain the CalendarProvider.apk? It should be there in order to let the CalendarGoogle.apk work. Otherwise install aLogcat to find any exceptions...
OK, finally got the calendar working just by using Root Explorer. The trick was to put the calendar apk in the system folder and change the permissions there before moving it to the app folder. Works like a charm.
The Calendar sizing is a bit off, but I can live with it since I mainly wanted it for the widget.
HJ200 - Thanks for the Contacts.apk
Sorry I'm just now getting back to you. I knew I wanted to flash another ROM, and was waiting till I did to try this. Anyway, today I flashed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421074
And then tried the Contacts.apk. I am not familiar with adb, so tried with Root Explorer. With Root Explorer in R/W mode, I put the apk in System, changed the permissions to rw-r-r, moved it to the app folder, and rebooted. The apk is definitely there, but it is not found in the app drawer. Suggestions? (Also, I am not familiar with adb, so was trying to do it without that...)
Thanks!
Jeff
Anybody able to walk me through how to get the Contacts app working w/o using ADB?
My post above lists what I've tried. I've looked around and have not found helpful suggestions.
Thanks!

You wont be able to get the contacts apk to work because it relies on the stock HC framework :/

Aw, stink. Ok, thanks, Gumby.
Hey guys, I wrote an article over on our site that shows a quick walkthrough on how to display full desktop websites permanently on Chrome for Android Mobile so that you don't have to visit the mobile site, then hit "request desktop site" button any more. Considering Chrome is an awesome browser with full sync, and works very well on Jelly Bean, this might be of use to all of you. I know I was sick of having to constantly click the button.
Article: How To – Permanently Have Desktop Mode on Chrome Mobile for Android
Rooted device Instructions:
Copy the chrome-command-line.txt file attached to the post, then paste it into /data/local/ making sure to set the permissions to 755 and to remove the '.txt' file extension.
Flashable .zip, for the lazy:
You should know how to use this by now. Grab the attached ChromeDE.zip provided by XDA user djmcnz and flash away! (Thanks!) You can also drop him a thanks by visiting a post of his later in this thread.
ADB Instructions (for non-rooted devices):
Place the chrome-command-line.txt file in the root directory of your PC and rename it to 'chrome-command-line', then make sure your device is connected to your computer. When connected, issue this command:
Code:
adb push /chrome-command-line /data/local/chrome-command-line
You can also set the path on your computer where the file is located by replacing the first '/chrome-command-line' with the file location.
Cheers! Hopefully we'll see a better implementation of this in the upcoming 4.2 release.
Very useful. Instructions were clear and precise, Nice one!

I'm using solid explorer off of the market (a free file manager) which allows you to set the permissions of a file. In solid explorer, they are set by ticking the correct boxes, whereas in other applications they are typed in by number..

Good tip but it can be improved.
You don't need root to write to /data/local/ so in theory this trick will work for everyone, might pay to update the article.

No? When testing with a Nexus 7 unrooted you cannot navigate to Data/local through Solid Explorer. Naturally I thought it had to be rooted. If you have had success with a different file manager (or pushed it through ADB) then letting me know what worked would be great.

You'll be able to get to it in a terminal window or adb - not sure what's up with Solid, equally an update.zip will work without root.
/data/local/ is r/w for the local user and shell.
try - echo test > /data/local/test.txt on a non-rooted device, it'll work.
Actually, now that think about it more - Solid probably can't list the contents of / (root) so you can't navigate to sub directories. Can you type a path into Solid? That should work.

I'll definitely test that out and put a guide for newbies on there. Solid displays the root directory, but will not allow you to navigate to a folder inside of it. I was thinking about ease of access for the user, and assumed they wouldn't want to go the adb route. My bad, but thank you for the heads up.

Have you tried this:
To use custom ringtones for your phone ringtone, your alarm or your text message notification, simply copy an MP3 file to one of the following folders: /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones /sdcard/media/audio/alarms /sdcard/media/audio/notifications If they don't already exist, then create a new folder. The file will then show up when you want to change your ringtones. For Ringtones go to Settings - Sound - Phone ringtone For Text Messages go to - Settings - Sound - Notification ringtone For Alarm, set the sound when you add a new alarm - See more at:

maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I tried to finding that folder in ES file explorer and couldn't find it. It shows sdcard and sdcard2. in sdcard, the link to notifications is sdcard/notifications or sdcard/media/audio/notification. However, in the audio folder inside sdcard, there is only a notifications folder, no ringtones or alarms folder. When I pasted the sound to the notifications folders, I still couldn't find my custom sound when trying to change the notification sound in the SMS options.
The method I tried in the OP, was in a folder not in the sdcard or sdcard2, but inside a folder in the onboard phone folders (system/media/audio/notifications), or whatever is the root of the sdcard and sdcard2 folders.

I placed the mp3 file in both directories under sdcard and sdcard2 and it still doesn't show up in the list of sounds for notifications. I think I tried creating the folder in sdcard2, but I think it was already present in sdcard. I notice that those default notification sounds are not located in the sdcard or sdcard folders but rather are in the root folder of both sdcard and sdcard2 under the folder "system".
The directory is /system/media/audio/notifications. I tried placing the mp3 file there using ES explorer, but it doesn't let me paste there as it gives me an error about it being read-only. I don't know how to change that read-only option.
Picture of the error:

Edit: give me a screenshot of about phone...hide noir imei and stuff but just so I can see what version your on

I'm just using stock sense 3.6 with ICS 4.0.3. I've never rooted or flashed any Roms before. I'm just on the latest official updates for sense.
What do you mean by hide noir imei? My imei #?

sorry phone autocorrected...was supposed to say your not noir...i was saying covevrup the personal numbers in screenshots that way people dont hack or use your info for other devices to "piggy back" your account....actually its very easy to root the rezound and i can give you specific easy instructions...it makes things like this alot easier....you can even stay on the same stock without messing things up to use root...again im gonna fix this and figure it out for you as ive done this on sense almost 2 years ago....sense roms for the rez just seem to battery hogging and very laggy to me

Sure I can try to root, though I'm afraid of messing things up like the data reception, etc. I'm up for an upgrade, but not sure if I want to spend money on a new phone in case I mess up the rezound. Though I'd like a new phone.
What's your method of rooting?
do you still want my about phone info?
I appreciate all the help!

Before we try anything else. Make a folder in both your sdcards and name them Notifications ...spell it like that exactly and put the custom sound in there...if mp3 doesn't work try other formats...but I'm about 99% this should work

I already had a Notifications folder in the sdcard folder with the mp3 file in it so I just made one for sdcard2. After doing that I went to try to change the notifications sound in the sms options and it appeared in the list. But then I tried to delete the sdcard2 folder to try to see if I can diagnose the problem such as whether the sdcard folder was enough or if I needed the sdcard2 folder as well and after that I couldn't get it to show up in the list of sounds anymore. I recreated the folder in sdcard2 with the mp3, but it won't show up in sound list anymore. I don't know what happened. I shut down and restarted the phone after deleting the folder in sdcard2 as well as recreating the folder and it still doesn't work anymore.

Make sure everything is spelled properly...that is what you need to do and it being on sdcard2 sounds right

It's spelled properly, but still doesn't work for some reason

Go into settings then sound then scroll down to where you can set default text tone not in the SMS app itself...also have you restarted after creating Notifications folder

I couldn't find an option to set text tone in the sound settings. All I found was a notifications tone setting, but couldn't find my mp3 file in the list there.
After doing it at first, it worked. So then I deleted the folders and eventually tried creating again and it didn't work. I then tried shutting off and restarting and it didn't work as well.
