I'm trying to edit the settings.mkitso file in Notepad and also by using a File Explorer so that I can enable delivery reports. It is currently set to 0 and I want to change the value to 1 to enable it but for some reason it won't let me save the file no matter what program I use to edit it. Is there another program that I can use to edit it? Please help.

Maybe you need to be rooted?
I'm rooted and I'm running GingerBlur. I still have no luck editing it even though I am rooted. I just don't know the proper way to edit it.
Which messaging app are you using the one that came with GingerBlur or the motorola one?
Nevermind that last post... I got mine to work with the app root explorer.

It might be that the apk file is corrupted or it is not really an apk file. I have instances where android told me that content is not supported while downloading an apk file as it is in the .bin file format. All I did is just to download and change the fipe type to apk to make it work.

I've had nothing but trouble transferring apk's through any browser on android, bluetooth, or even link in a text message.
But rename the extension to '.jpg' or some other regularly sent extension and it works almost everytime.
Frustrating work around, but a work around none-the-less.

True... but one thing nobody told you, was...
Go to Astro (file Manager), and go to it's preferences (menu > More), there is an option to Enable Browser Downloads.
THIS is what most places recommend, including the latest SwiftKey Beta.
or google download crutch, it will let you download anything on your phone. least it used to on my g1. never had a problem d/l'ing anything on my vibrant.

Having read about a great mod to eliminate the annoying sd-card mounting sound upon reboots, i really wanted a way to edit build.prop from my phone without relying on my PC.
I know that Root Explorer would do the trick, but I was not willing to spend $4 to do such a minor edit.
That said, with a little Googling I found a great free editor that allows you to make a backup before you start and fiddle at your discretion. http://code.google.com/p/net-widgetron-propeditor/downloads/detail?name=PropEditor-0.3.apk
Thought this might help someone!
Cheers

Nice find!
I gotta say though that Root Explorer is well worth the money if you like to tweak your phone. I use it constantly to edit/backup/move/etc system files and ANY file really.
I can tell you that it has also saved my butt more than once when I did something I shouldn't by giving me the ability to change something back before rebooting my phone into a boot loop.

Trust me............Root Explorer will save you a lot of time for that $4 in the long run. It's a must have app, no doubt about it!
I found that Ghost Commander offered the same kind of file management capabilities as Root Explorer with the omission of some small features. (Like a build.prop editor!) It's also a free download from the market.
My needs are not the most complex either... I'll wait for someone else to test the waters before I dive in so that the brick potential is minimized.
Cheers!

Everyone has different needs. I don't mind paying $4 because for me it has long paid for itself. I have been using Root Explorer since back when I had my Galaxy S.

why is it that i cannot edit my build.prop file in Root explorer. i have paid for it and have it and i have root and super user access.
when i go to edit the build.prop it said that i cant... it said "Warning, you cannot edit this file because the file system is read-only. WTF this is aggravating me so much. all i want to do is Edit my build.prop file and i cant seem to find a way to do it. i searched all over these forums and cant find it.
my phone is STOCK but i have it rooted. i don't want to add anything else really. all i want to do is edit the file for purchasing gameloft games.

you guys all completely derailed the point of this thread.
Prop Editor is an awesome app for editing your prop files. It is EASIER to use than Root Explorer's text editor, because 1) it sorts all the lines in build.prop alphabetically and removes comments and 2) it allows you to select single lines and edit the values or replace them with some pre-existing suggestions (such as when editing the phone model line).
I find it much better to use than Root Explorer for when I want to edit my build.prop, and I paid for RE too.
My Thoughts Exactly!!
And Prop Editor has Backup Option!!

If you are running Kenneth Penn's GingerBlur or GreyBlur, replace the "hosts" file with the default one which only contains 1 line for localhost.
You can find it in /system/etc/
You'll probably need to use root explorer to get to it... or adb.
Then reboot and Hulu Plus will work on you Gingerblur Atrix! The downside is ads will show in most free apps... small price to pay.

I'm trying to find some old messages (early 2011) on my original Optimus -- might actually be the Optimus S -- and I only have Titanium Backup files copied to my computer.
Is there any way to pull SMS messages (to be read on the computer -- not to be restored to the phone) from these files? Example files include:
"com.android.mms-20110814-232219.tar"
"com.android.mms-20110814-232219.properties"
etc.
It was a complete backup using TitaniumBackup, so everything should be there.
Thanks.
If this needs to be in another forum, please let me know.
Alright. This is in the proper forum now. Does anybody know if this is possible?

But what file has the SMS messages in it? I had the entire phone backed up using TBUP, so it should be there -- I just don't know which one it is.
You should have an XML file on the root of your SD card that looks like this if you backed up SMS:
messages-20121101-223142.XML
So, measages-<date >-<some unique number>.xml

hello all,
I am looking for app. or any other solution which disable the camera.
Does anyone have such a solution?
Thanks,
htako
You could use Titanium Backup to freeze your cammera app. (Although i suspect it would cause some future force-closes)
If you only want to prevent camera usage for a non-advanced user, you could just hide the camera icon, using samsungĀ“s touchwiz-embeded hide icons feature.
anyhow, why would someone want to disable their camera anyways?
Simple move or delete it from /system/app with something like Root Explorer...

As second poster said, freeze it, but it can be unfreezed...
But it's kinda pointless you do so from software, because other people can easily download and install another camera from play store... unless you can disable it under hardware level...

Use something like Root Explorer or similar file manger, navigate to /dev , there is a file named "exynos-mem" , long press it, choose permission, and uncheck all box
See screenshot
I DO HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND TAKE NOTE OF ITS PREVIOUS PERMISSION SETTING IN ORDER TO RESTORE CAMERA FUNCTION , OTHERWISE YOU WILL DISABLE YOUR CAMERA AND WON'T BE RECOVERED EVEN YOU FLASH NEW ROM UNLESS YOU CHANGE IT TO THE RIGHT PERMISSION. Do you familliar with apps that control camera dis/en?
the solution you recommended seems to be irreversible
It shouldn't be irreversible. Go back to the file long press and select the boxes same as last time.
You're only changing permissions, once back to how it was, this will bring the camera app back.
