i have a real quick question...on my sgs2 i had smart screen off...just wave or tap and the screen can be turned off or on...really worked just fine and saved my hardware buttons...i can download and install the same type of apps on my sgs3 but i noticed the infrared light stays on with some of the apps...my question is: is this ok to do?..i dont want to break or put excessive wear on any parts of my brand new phone and just concerned if the light staying on is an issue and if its a battery issue? thanks in advance...:cyclops:

I have Speed Rom 5.1 on my Amaze. When I am finished with a call, the screen stays black. I try to hit the power button, but nothing happens. I have to remove my battery in order to reboot. Can someone shed some light on why this happening? I am thinking that it may have something to do with my CPU Tuner settings, but I am not sure.

Probably that or a bad flash, just reflash, see if it solves the issue.
Most likely it's something simple, like an issue with your proximity sensor. I know there was an app that could calibrate that but I forgot what the app was.
Stock Rom - Black screen while phoning
There is a similar problem on my wife's phone with a stock rom (not rooted Amaze from T-Mobile). When making or accepting a call, the screen will instantly go off even without leaning the phone against anything and won't turn on unless the power button is pressed. Sometimes the screen would turn on by itself after a while after the other phone was hanged.
I've downloaded AndroSensor app: the proximity value does't change even when touching the area near the earpiece. It keeps showing ( 0.5mA ) 3.5 in.
I've found a thread which is there since april 2012 and describes quite a similar problem.
okay.. i just the original post date for this thread.. please don't bring back threads that are 6 month's old which issues might have been solved already since no ones been posting in it for 6 months...
(anyways) this is what i was gonna say
on my current s3 when my phone is placed to my ear it cuts off the display.. and if you pass your hand anywhere near the sensor's to the top near the camera it cuts off the display.. maybe there's a feature like that enabled on the stock rom also.. or you could possible check with the system settings to see "screen" on/off settings in display or power saving mode.. or something...
Thanks for the answer. I didn't notice that the thread was that old. I think I will keep up a newer one. But the current issue isn't likely to have been solved.
The problem doesn't seem to be triggered by wrong sensor measures (because the screen will go off even after disabling the sensor) nor does it depend on the rom version (same thing on the CM10).
Resolved:
It will sound stupid but I have found a simple solution:
I have just wiped the screen in the upper left corner where the proximity sensor is located and it started behaving normally. Though I don't use any protection tape on the screen it seem to have become less sensitive because of mud or sweat.
hi all
i have spent almost 2 days for an answer , no luck
my problem is
my phone s3 lte . screen turns of as soon as i obstruct the front camera and the 2 sensors area . it was ok before , since few days it started doing this . now i cant take screen shot pictures by moving my palm across the screen for example , not sure what this is due to
any help please .?
You've posted in the wrong section, questions go in q&a section -those for the i9305 stand more chance of a reply that won't brick your phone in the special q&a for LTE phones.
Report your own post and ask for it to be moved.
Having said all that, you've probably got a corrupt framework or a hardware fault. Flash a fresh official stock rom after a factory reset to test. If it's still the same then send for repair.
Is this when in a call sorry to ask noob question just curious if your covering the proximity sensor

Screen Blanks out on Galaxy tab
I ran this test and your screen is only supposed to change color from white to green during the test. My screen blanks out completely during the test.
Not sure if the sensor is bad or if it is a software or and OS issue yet.

Need advice.
I just received a SM-T705Y, KitKat. When I am in only some applications not all, the screen shuts completely off when my finger passes over the two sensors/camera near the word "SAMSUNG" at the top of the device. I have tested the cause and done it repeatedly by putting a small piece of black electrical tape on the sensor.
With the tape on the sensor, the screen never shuts off. The screen then will come back on several seconds after I remove my finger/tape from the sensor. Also, I do not have to actually touch the sensor to get the screen to turn off. But it activates the lock screen when it does turn off. ANNOYING !!!
My SM-T705Y is not rooted. It is in developer mode.
I think its the sensor that turns the screen off when you take a phone call is still stuck on ???
I have the phone proximity sensor turned off in: Settings> When I'm the phone screen The screen stays on.
Auto adjust screen tone : ON
Auto brightness is off
I have the "Smart Stay" turned off in: Settings>Device>Display.
Screen timeout set to 10 minutes. Screen mode set to "AMOLED Cinema"
I have restarted, not rebooted the SM-T705Y

The proximity sensor is located there. That's why you have that issue. It's normal behaviour.
If you are trying to turn the screen off during calls there is an option to do so in either calls settings or display settings.
If you move the phone away from your head it will turn the screen on. It's a proximity sensor, thats its job!.

Fix
I have same problem with my samsung and I fix it!
Just close all recently used app (press button next to menu button and close all) and you will have normal screen..... Looks like some app, especially call app make problem and activating proximity sensor. So one more time close all recently used app, press button next to menu button and close all app....
Good Luck!

Hi
Tasker begginer here.
I'm having some minor issues with Tasker that I was hoping you could help me sort out:
I use Greenify and I was having a little problem with autohibernation feature in my unrooted Nexus 5: The screen has to turn on in order to automatically greenify something. This is a problem when the phone is in my pocket or facing down on the table because it conflicts with Gravity Screen (this app turns the screen off -and keeps it off- when the proximity sensor is active and the device is in a particular orientation), so when the phone is in my pocket or laying face down on a surface, Greenify can't finish its job because Gravity Screen will quickly turn the screen off.
In light of this, I disabled the autohibernation feature in Greenify and made a rather simple group of profiles to control it from Tasker. The main profile, the one that calls the "Hibernate now" shortcut from Greenify, is triggered when the screen turns off and has and If condition. This is the logic of that if:
- If
Proximity sensor: Not active
AND
Screen off
- Then
Run task
I do this to make sure that the hibernate action is not triggered while the screen is on or while the proximity sensor is active. Since Tasker doesn't have a variable for monitoring the proximity sensor, I made a profile that sets a variable (%PROX) to 1 when it's covered and 0 when its uncovered. So the if conditional uses the value of %PROX.
The problem is that if I turn the screen on WHILE the proximity sensor is active, Tasker skips the if statement (as it should), but if I turn the screen off with the proximity sensor uncovered and then cover it, it'll run the task. It's as if the profile that sets the variable %PROX to 1 does not work while the screen is off. Is this normal behaviour? How can I make this work better?
I managed to sort this out by deactivating Gravity Screen at the beggining of the task and reactivating it at the end (with a little waiting to give Greeenify time to finish), but I still want to keep my screen off while the phone is in my pocket.
My other doubt is regarding a group of profiles (that I got from here) that turn Wi-Fi on whenever I'm near two locations using the cell tower and Wifi near state in Tasker. I made some minor adjustments to these profiles, but they're still basically the same. The problem I'm having is that, most of the times, these profiles won't do anything if the screen is off. For example, I have it set to recognize cell towers near my house (and of course my Wifi connects automatically). Let's say I get home and I haven't used my phone in a while (screen off), I'd expect to see my Wi-Fi on and connected some time after I arrived, but this is not the case. It is not until I turn the screen on AND unlock the phone that I see the profiles doing their thing. I see wifi connecting, flash alerts and so on. This probably have something to do with the fact that, for some reason, my phone will not connect to a network while the screen is off. Same example, I get home with wifi on and the screen off, and I'll only see the wifi connecting after I turn the screen on (this happens with or without Tasker and with any wifi) regardless of how long I've been home.
Could it be that the near wifi profile cannot toggle wifi or can't recognize any network while the screen is off due to this bug I have with Wifi connections in my phone (Which I haven't been able to sort out)?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!
Help with wifi profile
Hi, i saw your post in here and i think i can help, do you still have that problem or you managed to fix it? I think I might be able to help you
Hey guys i bought this phone few days ago i am facing proximity sensor issues right now
when i try to call someone it will randomly go to dark screen
proximity sensor in testing apps does not work correctly
i tried removing the screen protecting glass and case it still persist
i thought this issues might have been fixed with the new update it doesn't guys should i return this device and get new one
Mi 11x pro uses a ultrasound chip for the proximity sensor and this works combined with other sensors like the gyro. So when you put the earpiece to your ear it detects an orientation change and switches the display off. I'm currently on indian miui v12.5.2 and don't face the issue you mention. Slow movements are known to confuse the phone. Other than that the screen shouldn't switch off after initiating the call unless you change its orientation. Testing apps work with orientation change.

Almost all of the sensor apps fail this, but in call I have no problem whatsoever.
Are you having trouble during calls?

Wow, new info, didn't know that, thanks
I have the same problem on my Mi11i... well... my problem is that the screen wont turn on when I move my phone away from my ear... the screen stays off, i cant get it to turn on even if i press the power button. Annoying as hell... You call someone, he doesent answer, and you cannot cancel the call because the screen is black and no way to turn it on! Or to check a phone number or email.... I will send it back as a warranty isue....
The problem is with MIUI 12.5.4.0, we need to wait for the fix with newer version of MIUI or try to install xiaomi.eu ROM
Hi Guys, i'm using Xiaomi 11x pro version 12.5.2. I'm facing proximity sensor issue also proximity sensor option not available in my phone in incoming call setting. please help on this.
Coming from a OP5 with a separate fingerprint sensor (rather than under display), I'm used to being able to unlock the phone just by placing a finger on the sensor - even when the display is off.
On the 10T, the sensor only seems to work with the display is on, so I need to jiggle the phone a bit too wake it and then present my finger.
I found a setting 'fast unlock' which reads like the sensor is always active however I can't see any difference and pressing when the screen is off does nothing.
Anyone seen this / know how to get it working?
(For context, this is mostly an issue when I leave the phone on the desk and want to check something without moving the phone. If I pick it up then it wakes up and sensor works as expected)
