Just connected my s3 to a W7x64 laptop. The device driver software wont install. Samsung mobile MTP device driver installation failed. Any ideas why and how to rectify it? Using original windows and USB cable.

I tried the same thing earlier today and had the same result. My plan is to download kies from samsung which should have the drivers in the install package
Yup - installing Kies should fix this as it comes with the correct drivers (I also had this problem previously).
Olywa
install the driver package or kies or use windows update to get the drivers
Yeah..
I ran into same problem today.
Here is what I did to get it work. Uninstall Kies (include USB driver), Re_install Kies, update to the latest version. On the phone, untick USB debugging, reboot it. Plug it to PC, it will detect and installing drivers and voila...you can tick USB debugging if you want :good:
Try removing the sim card and then connecting the phone to the pc, if it works the sim card is bad. I just fixed my mtp issues on my s3 with this method
I have finally got mine installed.
Was a question of which USB port to use. Had to run off the mainboard to install having un-installed the previous attempt.
Once installed It is quite happy connecting to my monitor hub.
Now I need to get Kies installed as at present it won't!
I will note that I am on Windows 7 Premium 64bit and it is a new installation - so there is a lot of Windows Updates going on every reboot. The sensible thing is of course to wait for Windows to stabilise before installing too much stuff.
After a firmware update....I was experiencing the same old MTP failure thing and having issues with Kies. The only way I could fix it was to reset the phone! And it worked....so back up and reset?
had this problem just yesterday, steps I did was enable step 1 -usb debugging, rebooted phone -didn't work
step 2 - reinstall kies driver -didn't work
also make sure to use original usb cable supplied, I found there are issues with after market ones.
lastly found out since I am using a usb hub, I tried to connect the original usb cable into the usb jack direct, did step 1 and 2 , finally it work
question is does mtp required the same usb port to connect everytime?
Had the same issue today. All drivers installed, but the MTP failed.
Thanks for the advice on wiping and rebooting. That seemed to work for me. After that, the MTP driver installed just fine.
Hey I just found that ever time the usb MPT driver failed on laptop I would get a message "MPT disabled by security policy". ok this is not theexact message but something similar since I dont get this message now
All I did was to delete my corporate exchange email...they install some ****ty security policy. So if you guys are connecting to some corporate networks/exchange or downloaded some app that restricts security policy it might be preventing MPT installation. That would explain why resetting would work for some users.
Also the carriers may be pushing some security policy, mine does for internet sharing. so may be remove the sim card and then try installing the drivers.
Just my 2 cents. Also please pardon the spelling and grammar, its late Friday, have been working on this for over 5 hours and had a few beers.
Cheers All.

Recently my Vibrant started to give me trouble with my computer. But it's only my vibrant with my computer. I can connect to any other computer no problem. Any other device is easily recognized by my computer except the vibrant.
It started after using PDANET's tethering app. I was at one point tethering all the time putting my phone in usb debugging mode and running pdanet on my computer. Then I also started using the bluetooth tethering. Once I finally got internet at my new place i stopped using the tethering option. But then I realized when i tried to get files off my phone my computer wouldnt recognized my phone anymore.
The error I get is
USB Device Not Recognized.
One of the usb devices on this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognized it.
Usb Root Hub Unknown device.
Try Reconnecting the device if windows still does not recognized it replace the device.
In the device manager the properties of the "unknown device" says
Status: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I've tried the solution posted under here
USB Fix - Win7 x64 - USB Device not Recognized
and I've used both drivers from Samsung Kies and here
[Drivers] MS Windows x86 and x64 USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy S
(Sorry can't post links apparently)
When I try to update the driver manually for the unknown device it says that it has already selected the best driver for the device. So i don't know if it really updated it.
Any Suggestions would be really helpful. Thanks!

I have the same problem on my PC. I would plug in the phone and my mouse would stop working. No tethering app installed or anything.
Anyway, I just tried the ports on the back of the PC and those worked. Try a port closer to the MB
I've tried all my ports. It's still not recognized.
Check the cable and power source. Be sure cable is with good quality. I hade the same issue. I fixed it with original HTC cable and back panel USB from my deskop computer. Front USB of desktop computers often are not enough to power that consumption.
After updating to Froyo it started working again. Thanks though. I still have no clue what caused it.
Bumping to confirm, I found this thread after getting the same error. I had tried several of the USB ports on my computer but after reading this tried the 2 I hadn't yet, they both worked. Not sure why only those work now, but they do work.
Hope this helps someone.
I have a bricked galaxy s which doesn't do anything. Windows 7 reconizes an unknown device and it's not possible to install the samsung driver. Windows says that it allready has the right driver.
I can't seems to reincarnate my galaxy s. Only this small sign of live in windows 7.
It happened when I was flashing 2.3.5 and the connection went down just seconds after the start of flashing so I guess the bootloaders are corrupt.
Anyone any idea how to solve this one?
Vibrant UnBrickable Mod
The same thing is happening to my Vibrant. Tried Rooting and installing various ROMs and it is still "Not Recognized". Tried all ports on all PCs (4) and Laptops (1) and non of them work. espy1988, how did you upgrade to Froyo 2.2 if you could not connect to PC and Kies? This used to work without an issue.
Thanks

Like said above u might need to be debricked.
seems like ur phone is hard bricked.

have u tried Odin back to stock using Odin or hemidal ?
I have the same problem now. I have had my Vibrant for over a year never with an issue. I have Odined it back to JFD dozens of times but now it will not recognize the usb device.
I have GB bootloaders, but never a problem before. When changing Roms I usually Odin back to JFD first and start clean.
My problem started with the phone getting stuck in landscape mode. I was running a 2.3.4 GB rom Sensation. I reflashed a few times but whenever a restored anything from Titanium it would revert back to landscape only. I decided to go back to a 2.2 rom and plugged in the phone to Odin and it was not recognized, also not as a mass storage device, no go. I used Samba to copy a 2.2 rom, Trigger, to the phone and flashed from there. The phone is good now except the computer still won't recognize it. I can use Samba to access the SDCard but I hate not being able to use Odin if things go south. Tried all usb ports and a new cable, no go. Really wierd.
Looking for suggestions......
If you're still under warranty claim it & send it.
Had same problem. There is no fix short of replacing USB port.
I found my problem. It was dirty/corroded usb port. I carefully cleaned it out (took a few times) and it's all functioning again. I also cleaned the contacts on my original usb cord and it is working again also.
I'm just now having this problem for the first time. I've tried all USB ports and cleaning the port on the phone with no luck so far. Can someone point me to the unbrickable mod mentioned early in this thread?

Have you tried installing the installing/re-installing the Samsung drivers (LINK), using another USB cable, or even another computer? I just want to make sure you've tried it all before attempting to do a hardware mod.
Anyhow, you can find a link to the unbrickable mod and other hardware mods in the "Official XDA Vibrant Bible Thread", under the "MODS/SCRIPTS" section (LINK).
Mine is the cable btw. My wife has a GSII and I was able to use her cable.

I had same thing. In my case few times unplug the cable and plug back in helped. Weird but true. You can check if you can make connection via wi-fi ( kies wi-fi in phone settings) i was able to do it from very beginning before i got kies via cable sorted out.
Make sure your phone is unlocked when you plug it in. I spent a bit of time trying to get it talking initially including rebooting my phone, the PC, the phone & the PC. Turned out unnlocking the phone did the trick.
in settings/applications/development, make sure the USB debugging box is unticked.
I've tried those things too.
My notebook notice my sgs2 thats no problem, the problem is my notebook doesn't install the
Samsung_android and cdc serial driver. Those 2 fail.
Wierd thing is that it can connect as mass storage.
make sure you have no apps running! and USB debugging isn't ticked.
go onto stock TW launcher [will not work with launcher pro Etc AFAIK].
open task manager, clear all running apps and clear Ram. then open Kies and when loaded connect USB.
that's how i get it to work for me anyway
Rumble
That's what i tried to. But thats not the problem. Problem is that my laptop doesn't installs the cdc serial driver.

I've also tried that, it didn't work..
I've discovered what the problem is...
My browcli.dll file is corrupted and thats why it can't install the drivers correctly.
I had this exact problem, so I followed some advice I found on the web somewhere
1) uninstall kies
2) re-install kies but choose english US, as they seem to have missed out the CDC drivers for other languages!

STEPS TO USING KIES with a Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII, eye eye, anything you want to call it on Windows 7 vista or XP
1.Ensure your USB Debugging feature is not checked (when some stores copy your contacts from one fone to another, they check this box. USBD will F up your KIES.)
2. Stop your antivirus from your stock app manager.
3. Kies running on cuomputer, and phone at a home screen, plug it in.
voila.
If you have been using multiple phones over usb, or trying to root phones etc, i suggest you recover you delete any trace of usb or phone drivers on your machine, and repair your windows install. then try again.
This is how I fixed it for my scenario:
My Scenario:
few days back my SGS2 stopped recognizing apps installed on SD Card and I keep on getting "Force Close" error for installed (3rd party) apps on phone. I installed Kies on PC to backup my data before rooting my device, but Kies 2.0 was unable to read my phone. That's why i came here..
My Fix:
I uninstalled all downloaded (3rd party) apps and that fixed the issue. In all I removed more than 20 apps, that were installed on phone.
RCA:
I believe some 3rd party app or apps were messing up with my phone, my sdcard, my Kies. Anyways I am planning to root the device so my sole intention is to take back up of my data (pics, vids to be specific)
Suggestion:
1. Try connecting to Kies, after removing SD Card. It will narrow down if prob is with SDCard or SDCard data
2. Try uninstalling apps 1 by 1, to see which one is the culprit.
I had the same problem of Kies unable to connect to my phone. I could charge the phone, see it in the devices, connect through mass storage mode. Kies would even detect the phone when plugged in, tried to connect and would hang. I tried the usual steps (updated Kies, verified USB debugging is off, terminated all apps on the phone), but nothing worked.
I just rooted my phone and was concerned that something might have gone wrong in the process, resulting in the connection error, though every thing seemed to be normal. Out of desperation, I tried the diagnose connection problems button in Kies and Kies reinstalled the driver, tried connecting and rebooted the system. I tried again and this time it took much longer to install, but worked.
I suggest rebooting the system, before reinstalling Kies, as it worked after the reboot.
I bought my P7510 not too long ago, which already was at HC 3.2. Kies will not recognize this tablet [stock HC 3.2, USB Debugging off] over USB, but does it over Kies-WiFi. I installed the latest version of Kies, and the USB connection starts up in MTP mode, but the Kies device-recognize-spinner keeps on spinning, and will not resolve the 'unknown' device.
The host-system (Win Vista X64) does recognize the tablet fine.
As HC 3.2 no longer supports the USB Kies (= USB data) mode, I would like to know what could be done to fix this, as Kies does not support Firmware update over Wifi-Kies.
I have been able to run the Wifi native update (got 3.2.1 like that), but I would like to be able to get Kies running over USB.
New Version of KIES is available
Been having exactly the same problems with my (never rooted) new in January GT-P7510 since the last firmware/KIES2 upgrade. Have tried all the fixes in XDA and other forums - wasted hours to no effect. Ended up with 15 device entries for 7510 in my Windows 7 (64) Autoplay list.
Try dowloading the latest KIES_2.2.0.12014_18_8.exe released 8 Mar 2012 from Samsung support. First uninstall both the SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones and then Samsung Kies using Control Panel/Programs & Features before you run the new KIES installer.
When KIES finishes installing itself and the USB drivers, fire it up and you'll get KIESPDLR.exe wanting to make changes. If you allow this you'll see the message "There are new components for SAMSUNG KIES.... updates for firmware management ... do you want to upgrade now?" - cancel this as it will not change anything and other posters have said it causes the connection problem.
You're ready to plug in the Tab USB cable now - don't get too excited though there are problems coming. Plug in the 7510 USB cable - preferably in a motherboard USB socket, rather than a hub-based USB socket. The usual storm of device driver installation follows - the first of which always seems to fail - "SAMSUNG USB Mobile Device driver instal failed". Leave KIES to do its thing and you'll get the same error as previously "Cannot start service on this device. Disconnect and reconnect...". Do this and the same thing happens, but this time no new drivers are installed. Stay in KIES and disconnect the 7510 and run the KIES troublshooter under Options - this reinstalls the USB drivers and which manages to get the SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device installed OK this time (and adds yet another 7510 device to your Autoplay list as a bonus...). Reconnect the 7510 and you'll be no further forward - same connection problem followed by error and request to restart the PC. Leave the 7510 connected to your PC and restart the PC.
On restart you should arrive at your usual desktop with no new deice driver installation. Go into Control Panel/Devices & Printers and you'll see a GT-P710 device with an exclamation against it - "Device cannot start - Code 10" error. Click on the "Troubleshooting" option and it will offer to reinstall a driver so let it apply this fix. It will fail on the SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device installation however. Now unplug the 7510 and plug it back in again. Yet another attempt to install a device driver follows - this time successful so you should see "GT-P7510 installed - ready to use". Followed by the Windows Autoplay box popping up - just close it as soon as you see it. You'll also see the KIESPLDR requests popping up requesting changes to this computer. Cancel these as before.
Now it gets silly - with the 7510 plugged in (KIES hasn't fired itself up) go into Tab Settings, Wireless and connect via Wi-fi - confirm permission on the PC and KIES will start up - and amazingly - connects via USB! From now on you should be able to disconnect and reconnect the 7510 and get a more or less immediate USB connection.
I apologise for the sheer length of this post, but it's a consequence of SAMSUNG's total ineptitude at writing driver installation scripts - who knows what works, or where or why? Any chance of some decent logging/diagnostics options for your cr*ppy KIES connection process Mr Samsung??
Rant over.
And out.
Good luck!

Is it worth it? ...hell maybe!
You're right Benzoman - apart from firmware check & update, you don't need KIES at all for straight sync'ing/backup etc, Windows MTP does that just as well directly.
Still, Samsung will be pushing out a lot of firmware/OS updates over the next year. Who knows they might even get KIES and drivers into shape, so I'm sticking with it just now even if it is a b*lls-ache. Anything's better than fruityTunes!
Alas, no

I never had any problems with the installation of the drivers, but followed your (slightly convoluted) method to the letter. In the final part, where USB connection is combined with Wifi-Kies it still takes the Wifi as basis [not USB even both are connected], i.e. no firmware update possible, which was the (only) reason for using Kies. I do not use the SGT for contacts and the such, I have other devices for that... So sadly, this did not work for me.
I will try and try again. And if I ever find a working solution, I will put it here for all to see.
Factory reset of Tablet fixes this

I tried many things suggested here and on other forums on my GT-P7510 (Wi-Fi only). One suggestion made that was claimed to work was a factory reset of the Tablet itself. I connected via USB to my Windows 7 laptop and copied all folders from the Tablet to an external USB hard disk as a backup, then did the factory reset on the Tablet (under Settings - Privacy). After that Samsung Kies could connect via USB.
This means that something on the Tablet itself needs to change to re-enable USB connectivity to the latest version of Kies. (I had been able to connect in the past using the same hardware but on Android 3.1 on the Tablet and on an earlier version of Kies).
The only real benefit I could see from using Kies is if Samsung releases Android 4.0 ICS via Kies before or instead of sending it via Wi-Fi. I upgraded from 3.1 to 3.2 via Wi-Fi.
Latest 10.1 ICS Upgrade fixes KIES USB connect - at last!
Just received 276MB ICS upgrade via wi-fi connection (no Kies involved).
Seems the connection problem via USB is now fixed.
Plug in the upgraded 10.1 via USB to PC - will install new device drivers
then it connects via USB with no problems whatsoever.
Hope it fixes yours too.
Good luck.

I agree with you. For the last 2 days I have tried everything. But the thing that worked the first time was factory reset. worked on the very first try.
as of today, jan 6, 2014, nothing works to update my tab through kies or ota.
i followed your instructions to a "t" and there were some differences, which may be why it did not work. the kies version is now different, upon a restart of my windows pc, a program called mecleanup.exe wanted to execute (forget if this is the exact name, but i looked it up, it is a samsung install cleanup program). none of this worked. i tried disabling my antivirus.
i have spent days searching and trying everything i could find, but my p7510 will not connect to my win 7 64 bit pc through kies (but it will connect with kies air wirelessly - no good for updates) and my tab will not update over ota either. i want to update it, root it and maybe flash a good rom asap, i have waited to long!
does anyone have any info, suggestions, solutions? any help will be greatly appreciated.
the tab was purchased about 18 months ago at bestbuy, and i have never rooted it or updated it, i was waiting for a big update -ics. it has android 3.1 now. i also noticed that there is no imei number on it or in it (software) - is this normal? i have not had these problems with my captivate, or rooted galaxy note. (cappy just updated ota to gingerbread 2.3.5) i have not yet tried anythig with my 7 inch tab yet (it's sprint, but i use it wireless only, with flight mode on).
i tried different usb ports, taking everything out of all my usb ports and only connect the tab, reinstall, everything i can think of. my only recourse is a master reset, and i don't know if that is going to work, there seems to be something missing from my tab. ota does nothing, i am signed into my samsung account and my google account. it was having trouble updating apps from the market--or rather with the list of apps that needed updating, it was saying some apps were not installed when they were. the samsung support site is just usless.
thanks for your help...

Rant over.
And out.
Good luck!

What do you really need Kies for @OP??? Why dont you just plug it in and allow the PC to see it as a USB device.
Nothing works at all, even when I “just plug it in"! Driveres fail to load or load and do not work. I tried loading older drivers with internet turned off. That was a no go. It lets me see there is a drive on my pc, but will not allow me to see what is on the drive.
Kies air works but does not allow me to move or copy most files to my pc (photos copy but no music and no documents and certainly no apks or any kind of executable)! ). I was thinking of emailing stuff to myself but the main problem is updating my tablet.
I spent one whole useless hour on chat with samsung tech who told me everything I knew and tried already. I explained to him from the start about everything I tried so far, but he still went on to direct me to the samsung support pages with the stuffthat did not work. I should post the transcript of the conversation for sh★ts and giggles.
I just want to be able to update it and root it. Nothing has worked. Why does it not have a removable sd card? Also, now nothing works for my gnote and 7 inch tab. My captivate is just fine with kies mini, so far (knock knock knock on wood).. I remember my p7510 (i think it was that one and not my smaller tab) doing an ota update without my knowledge, and I was mad because everything got changed in some way.
I don't want to master reset till I back it all up. I really wanted to avoid the reset, this should not be happenning, a point in apple's favor here (and I am not an apple fan, i go with android all the way). Samsung needs to take there devs and let them meet to real tab owners/users.
Here is a question − can I email myself an executable/zip file (I know there are size limits) and run it right from gmail on my tab?
sent from my rooted i717 w/stock ics....and i love it!
Here's what I did that works (tablet was running 3.2) stock, PC is win7x64:
1. Disconnect tablet.
2. On PC, uninstall Kies & Samsung USB driver from Programs & Features.
3. On tablet, disable USB Debugging.
4. Download and install latest Kies (was 2.5.2.13021_10 for me).
5. Launch kies, it will not detect anything.
6. Plug in tablet and let drivers etc. install, wait for a prompt from kies saying 'this device is not supported by this version of kies (or similar)'.
7. Press OK.
8. Quit kies and restart it, now it works.
Do the firmware upgrade, and get outta there, that software is some of the worst there is... good luck.
All of a sudden my Galaxy S2 has started giving me the Error: Hardware ID Missing every time I plug it into my PC
It worked perfectly fine until today.
I have rebooted my PC
I have fully removed and reinstalled Kies
I have restarted the Phone (including removing the battery)
I have factory reset the phone
It does not pick up in Kies either
Phone otherwise works perfectly fine
We have 4 Samsung devices here:
My SGS2
My Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Wifi P5110
My Wifes Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 3G P5100
My Sons Galaxy Pocket
All pick up fine including in Kies except for my SGS2
Hi, got same problem after updated to new firmware. Kies only detected ext memory but not internal memory. Everything was fine before updated.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
ok flashed the firmware back to the current none rooted firmware for my supplier and that has not changed a thing either.
I seem to recall that kies updated itself this morning so it could be a glitch in that.

im guessing you have a windows pc?
samsung put out a driver update for the computer that caused the error.
only way i found to fix the problem is to do a system restore back a few days before the update.
my update was automatic, im going to see if i can stop that update from happening for now..
ic you can call samsung and make them aware like i did...
You can as well forget about kies altogether and your problem is all gone.
BTW I hate that terrible app called kies

For now i'll leave kies off until they fix it.

It's the fault of outdated Windows Update drivers for our phones.
Correct way of installing drivers if above error is present:
1. Disconnect phone from PC.
2. Uninstall Kies and drivers.
3. Download fresh copy of Kies from Samsung website.
4. Turn off Internet connection on PC <- important! This will force OS to look for drivers on PC first instead of Windows Update.
5. Install Kies, run it.
6. Connect phone to PC and wait for drivers installation.
7. Turn on Internet connection.
8. Done.

Can you be a little more specific in your instructions? The way you've ordered and worded the steps is really vague and does't make much sense, especially since the PC must be connected to the internet to install Kies. I'm also confused as to whether I'm supposed to uninstall the Kies on my phone as well, or leave it be.
EDIT: Retried the installer and everything worked perfectly, just make sure the internet is down before you plug in your device.
If you still have trouble with "Hardware ID Missing" I suggest the following:
1.Install the latest version of Kies.
2.Uninstall only the "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones".
3.Install the slightly older "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones.exe" version 1.5.6.0 from the from the following link:

Thanks a lot for the solution that was really hard to find. Worked for My Samsung Galaxy Note just in time for the new firmware update
Mine worked for a couple days and now is back again.

Just go into device manager plug the phone in and you should see Samsung drivers appear in usb section just uninstall them restart pc and fixed (you might have to connect your phone a couple of times to re install the right driver after reboot)

Are you running Kies along with the Samsung driver suite? Because they don't necessarily play nice together.

Hello All,
i had a problem with my phone every time plugging in galaxy s3 into windows (xp or 7) i kept getting no hardware id found after flashing my last rom.
just thought i would share how i resolve. very simple steps...
power off and remove battery
uninstall any drivers from windows
insert battery
power on device
once fully booted plug device back into windows and let it search for drivers.
all "should" now be working.
just thought it would be helpful to share as took me a while to find information online.
Got the same problem, with the difference that my S3 is fresh out of the box. Installed kies, drivers. Tried all of the usb-ports but nothing seem to work.
Was looking to root it but the connection (looks to me) would be an must...

jups, tried several cables and all of my usb-ports. Still no marriage between phone and desktop
funnily enough i just had this happen to me on my win 7 64bit ultimate, havent flashed any new roms just stock with cf root. All of a sudden my comp gave the sound effect if something was disconnected and I just got hardware id missing.
It did resolve itself though after I rebooted both phone and pc so unfortunately cant narrow it down further.

Is KIES loading while you are trying? If so, shut it down.
I've never had to load drivers. Windows always finds them on it's own.
missing hardware id (Win7 64 Home)
Same Problem for me.
I have never used Kies, but installed des Samsung Driver Package Ver. 1.5.6.0 .
For 3 month all worked fine with 2 Galaxy S III, 2 S II and 1 S I.
Since yesterday i have this trouble. Reinstall drivers, shut down phone... nothing helps. Changing USB-Ports, nothing...
Running on Stock XXBLG8 wird Syiha 1.5 or Speedmod K1-8 Kernel.
Would be fine if there is a fix or at least idea how to solve this
Just so everyone knows, the way i fixed this was very simple.
1. Uninstall Kies and All Drivers
2. Reboot Into Recovery (If Roooted)
3. Wipe Cache and Dalvik
4. Fix Permissions
5. Install LG8 Rom (rom installer from UpdateMe)
6. Reboot Phone
7. Disconnect From Internet (PC/MAC)
8. Re-Install Kies
9. Connect Phone to PC/MAC
10. Let Phone Install Drivers Again with Kies
11. Should Be Good-to-Go
1
-On Control Panel go to Programs and Features find Samsung mobile USB drivers and uninstall it, conect phone on PC via USB cable and wait for drivers to install.
or
2
-Use Kies and klik Troubleshoot problems with connectivity
That should solve the problem

this worked for me but i have to repeat the process every time in reconnect my phone to the pc
It works
Hi guys,
I think I figured it out.
I was reading posts about this issue on multiple forums and there was one that caught my attention (I cannot remember where it was exactly- it was late in the night).
The thing is that the current Windows running PC's (or most of them) does not have the latest drivers and updates installed.
First I tried connecting my Galaxy S3 to the PC (which was not updated) and had the same errors you guys have. Then I connected it to my home laptop and this did not work as well. Today when I went into the office (@work) i tried again there and it worked flawlessly. Then it hit me:
The IT dept keeps the laptops and all the infrastructure up to date (including Windows updates). Therefore I tried again at home but this time with Windows up to date and guess what...it worked on both PC and laptop !
What I did (please keep in mind that all of my laptops and PC's are running Windows 7 - not sure if it works on older Windows versions):
1) Uninstall Kies and the related USB driver it installs (Control panel -> Programs and features)
2) Let Windows install the latest updates (Control panel -> Windows Update) and let it reboot your machine and finish installing things.
3) After you're logged back into Windows just plug your USB cable into the phone and PC/Laptop on any of the USB ports and it works !
Hope this helps !
Regards,
Mike
wtf i update kies software, here the same problem. :crying::crying:
i reinstall Kies more then 3x, but the problem is exist!
i try other usb connection, same problem..
now when i connect my Galaxy S2, same prob.
and all that after i update Kies Software to 2.3.
Where can i found an older Version?
Greetings

Samsung Composite Driver is exactly the Problem on Windows 7 X64!
I installed these drivers SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and this solved my problems with the ID issue. Here is the link https://www.dropbox.com/s/fm9b12xy3r0t07b/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.zip. Good luck guys
i try it with only Windows Update Driver that was not the Solution, that was without ADB Support..
I resolve the Problem, :good: if anyone have the Problem further, try this..
- uninstall all Samsung Driver & Kies from your System
- then you need the tool USBDeview
- uninstall with that tool all unused or Samsung USB Driver from your Sys
- Reboot your Machine
- after that clean your registry (example with CCleaner)
- Reinstall or Update your Motherboard System Driver (Only USB)
- Reboot your Machine
- Install Now Samsung Kies again
- again Reboot your Machine
- and last disable USB Debugging on your Phone and activate it again
now you can plug your Device and hopefully with MTP and ADB Support and without Hardware ID Error.
Best Regards
This happened to me since I updated Kies. What works for me:
Go to settings -> more (under data usage) -> USB Utilities -> connect storage to PC -> OK
Windows now does recognise the phone and you can browse the phone as a drive. Kies will give you an error.
Turn off USB Storage, disconnect the phone.
Take out the USB cable and put it back in and Windows should detect the phone properly now and Kies will recognise it too.
this worked for me first time
Flashed rom, new error of mulfunctional USB and not recognized phone on USB. Interesting is, that another phone, but the same type, same ROM was recognized. Nothing from above helped (reinstalled progs, restarts, reinstalled ROM, tweeking in kies)
Helped only reinstalled drivers posted above by gee2012 (SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones)! Thanks for this.

Big thanks, these drivers sorted it out for me though the ones you hosted have gone from your dropbox I found more easy enough because of the name you supplied.
Just out of interest are those having this problem using an AMD chipset or a gigabyte motherboard? My main PC has both and its the only system I am having this issue with.
had this happen again after flashing a new rom from a full wipe. un installed the drivers then reconnected and fixed the issue.
