Recently did the ICS upgrade, but realized ICS broke my phone shortly after.
I live in the mountains in an area where we use shared data with US Celluar (mountain in the way for the Verizon tower). So, I am always on roaming at my house. Drive a few miles out and I'm on Verizon tower but not at home.
After the update, my phone, texts and data do not work on the roaming US Cellular network but everything works fine on the Verizon network. What happens when I try to place a call is it will connect to the network, make the call but 4 second in (before any ringing or anything) I get the fast busy signal. Texts just fail as does data. I can receive calls and texts SOMETIMES. Other times the incoming call goes directly to my voicemail. I can test the phone and see a nice strong signal to the US Celluar network. I just can't seem to use it.
I reported the issue to Verizon on Monday (Saturday now), but they cannot figure it out. I've reset my phone to factory defaults with no luck. They say they have an open ticket without resolution.
So, I figure it's time to ask the community for any help.
Global data roaming access should be set to allow access for all trips
But I'm sure they suggested this.

Yeah, we messed with that
Dang - that sucks, hmmm, is you Preferred Network Mode "Global"?
In cases like this, I wish that Verizon had VOIP like TMO...
Another solution may be to turn in your phone as it may have gotten damaged some how... If you're still under warranty.
I wonder if the PRL version has anything to do with your problem.

I switched from Verizon to Cricket, had my DX2 flashed at a shop and switched over Cricket. Everything works, but I rarely get 3G data. Usually it pops up for a minute or two, then disappears for a few hours again leaving me with only 1X.
Does anybody know the way to update Crickets PRL info? Or is there anything else I can do to get 3G connection more reliably? I know it isn't a signal issue, as it just simply doesn't work well anywhere whereas others using Cricket have 3G and good signal.

I'm sorry, but the name Cricket alone sounds solo, not sure how their network runs, but is this all you have? You can try calling Cricket, to manually activate your phone, changing our entering the codes manually...good luck, love to hear outcome..

You can try this mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466245
Also, I have experienced the same issue on Verizon, mostly when connected to a Network Extender. Toggling my wifi on and back off (with a connection having been established) usually does the trick to force it back into 3G.

For some reason, the airplane mode trick doesn't work nearly as consistently for me as wifi toggling.
thanks I'll give these suggestions a shot and report back

Cricket is a pay-as-you-go service in the Phoenix area and probably SW USA in general. It runs on Verizon's CDMA network, just typically given lower priority. However, I am basically unable to get 3G connectivity period. The phone has been flashed from Verizon to Cricket and activated and everything seems to work with exception of reliable 3G.
Hello everyone,
As this is my first post I would like to take a quick moment to say thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide; and even though I just finally registered today, I have been using the information on your site for a the past few years! And now that I've said my sincere and heartfelt thanks....
Please help me with this ASAP if possible!!!!
Current Issues:
Last Thursday when I woke up my 4g and 3g signal were very poor so I ran updates on my phone. PRL and profile both said they updated. However, when I went to send a text I instantly got the "text message not sent" error. I also discovered right after this "update" that my hot spot was not working and I only had 1 signal bar in 4g, nothing in 3g.
Next I did all the battery removal/re-set "tricks." After that the hot spot works and 3g and 4g signal strengths are a little bit better, but I still cannot send or receive MMS nor have I received one voicemail notification. When I go to Sprint Zone app under 'My Device' here is what it says:
My Connections
SMS failed. Select update profile which may solve the problem
Update Profile
A profile update is available, update now to ensure full access to the network and data services.
Coverage Update
A coverage update (PRL) is available, update now to maximize your coverage area.
I've ran the updates several times, most of the time it says the updates were successful. However, the update notifications are still present, service is still super choppy, and still no MMS/voicemail.
Did some troubleshooting with Sprint "advanced" tech support...what a joke. They have no idea what I'm talking about and have given me the run-around. I can provide more info as needed. I'm finally in panic mode because I own my own company and am losing a lot of communications with clients due to these messaging issues.
Willing to donate $ to anyone that can help me get this phone working (I have a feeling a root may help/be necessary but don't want to screw the phone up more)
Background -
I am currently using a Motorola Photon 4g, which I purchased from a Sprint Store in January, 2012. I have rooted each of my 4 previous devices, however have not yet rooted the MoPho because I haven't really liked enough about it to even want to "tinker" with it. I have performed updates regularly, and in my apartment I get a decent 4g signal...however in certain areas of my house I do not get incoming calls or texts. I've also had several instances in which I would be in the middle of a MMS conversation and I would stop receiving texts; during which time I would then power my phone off and back on and upon restart would get an influx of text messages that had not previously been delivered. Usually updating Profile and PRL help a little for a short amount of time.
First of all, welcome to the forums!
As for your text messages suddenly stopping that happens to me relatively often when in really spotty service and if I reboot ill usually get them in a wave. I would personally call Sprint and try to get them to send you an Airave, they've done it many times when customers have spotty service and complain. Often times its free of charge too. This will plug into your router and your phone will effectively run through your home Internet, at full 3g both voice and data. I have an older 1x version and it lights up my house pretty good and very rarely have any dropped calls. Have you taken the device away from your home out somewhere you know has good service? If not id try that, it may not be your device but the tower thats near your house thats having issues. If you call up Sprint tech support they can tell you if tower nearest you is *supposedly* up and running perfect or if its having any issues. I don't know how attached you are to the apps/data on your phone but personally I would consider either a full factory reset first and if that doesn't help SBF back to stock. AFAIK there arent any good backup apps that done require having root access so i'm not sure if you'd want to go through all that to get all your stuff back after you wipe it. And there is no guarantee that this would resolve the issue, just what I personally would try if I were in your shoes because I have a hunch that it would help out. Before doing anything else though I would try to determine if its your actual phone or the network, if it works well elsewhere then its just Sprints wonderful network..
Anyone know or have similar problems? I have PRL 12121 (and have even tried it w/ the current PRL by using the Update PRL option) and if I force roam on my phone, data refuses to connect on a majority of Verizon towers. The tower nearest my house, I can connect 3G roaming, and a few towers here and there, but majority I cannot connect what-so-ever. Any ideas on this? I have even reverted back to a stock rom on an older radio firmware to see if it'd solve the problem, but nothing.. I am able to make phone calls the entire time, just not data. I've also done a profile reset, and had Sprint reset on their side as well, and still no go.
Those hacked prl's are known to only work on some towers. I've found that different prls will work better with different roms. Just try a few more out.

I can force update to my regular issued PRL (21090) and have the same issue, so doesn't appear to be due to a hacked PRL. Sprint Tech Support is useless over the problem. I am running ZR3D-XL.. I've even gone as far as to go back to a standard STOCK ROM (while backing up my current install) to make sure there wasn't something weird going on. I'm just baffled over the whole ordeal.
Ok, so I've completed my investigations of my data problems while roaming (I'm in Austin, TX)...
When I select force roaming in various locations in my home market, I have determined that when my phone tries to connect to Cricket instead of Verizon, then it goes crazy. I just did a force roam, got full service roaming and 3G, I dialed *228 (PRL Programming, and of course it fails because I'm not using that carrier) to see which service answered, and Verizon was the carrier.. A few seconds later, my phone changed over from full service to having only 1 bar, and data connection dropped and giving the error saying it couldn't connect to the mobile network. Dialed *228 again, and this time, Cricket was the provider. A few minutes later, full service again, and *228 revealed it was Verizon. So, I've come to the conclusion that for whatever reason, Cricket is not allowing Sprint to roam on their own serviced towers, although they are supposed to have roaming agreements in place.
Anytime my phone connects to Verizon, whenever I force roam it to, the signal strength is excellent and I get 3G Roaming, but Cricket, even with the lower signal strength, still comes and takes over my phone and forces my data connection to die. I have even tried (as mentioned in a previous post) to use the official sprint PRL that is valid on my phone right now, even with 1X, and I have the same problem.
I've been doing this testing for several days now all over my market, and it's the same everywhere I've "roamed". It's annoying. Guess I need to go back and get a PRL prior to 2010 to see if I still have this issue, but of course, I would be missing out on all the updated agreements.
Anyone have any thoughts on this or how to NOT roam onto Cricket?
I have a sprint HTC - One Max with current OTA - rooted of course - Kit Kat.
When I'm on calls it does not allow me to use my data on my wifi at all. I have always been able to
on my Galaxy 2 phone but not with this new HTC One Max.
I've tried using it with the mobile data turned off or on in settings.
Even though it shows wifi connectivity on status bar it still doesn't allow
for a page to load, speedtest to be done, zello to stay logged in, etc.
no one experiencing my duplex wifi while in call not working issue?
Is no one else having this problem ? I'm about to do a flash back to the stock ROM to see if wifi works simultaneously while in a call but if it's a fault in the programming / chipset then there's no point in me trying. Someone please reply so I don't waste my time doing something that someone else has tried.
Well I am on Verizon but sometimes my data works and sometimes it doesn't during a call. WiFi will stay connected and work fine.

Mine isn't working at all when I'm on the call, even when the wifi connectivity is on the status bar.. as soon as I disconnect calls my push to talk app/browser/etc start back working... Sometimes the wifi doesn't work at all on the phone even if I'm not on a call, but the S2 I have works like a charm with the same cradle point mbr1200/verizon data card that I've had for years. within 5 feet from the router too...
stock. non rooted, on sprint.
i was on the phone with my mom on moms day and was on wifi here at the house.
i was successfully able to use google voice to send and receive texts and also was surfing the web for a phone for my mom, so i have had good results with wifi calling.

I'm having issues with data also. I have the Verizon onemax. I started having this problem about 3 days ago. I have issues staying connected to 4g never used to have this problem. I live in a 4g area, when I turn off my device and wait about 10 secs then turn it back on then I get 4g for a brief period then it goes right back to 3g. Also I can't get any data when I make a phone call, that never ever happened before, I don't know why this is happining. I called Verizon and the rep told me to turn off my device then turn it back on the rep said that resets the "PRL" I TRIED THAT like I said awhile ago it worked....but only for a brief period. The Verizon rep "tech support" told me if that diddnt work that I may need to get a new SIM "which is on the way". This problem has happened on NuSense and on ViperRom, I wiped cach/dalvik/data&system and I'm still having this issue, I'm hopping the new SIM will fix this issue. Maybe we can get some help. I'm hopping because this is very annoying!

Problem diagnosed but not fixed
I have diagnosed my problem on simultaneous calling with data connection non existence even with wifi symbol on status bar...
The data on wifi works on calls if I'm not using a bluetooth device, meaning if I'm using the handset or the speaker phone it works fine, even if the headset stays connected to the phone, wifi still works as long as I'm not using the bluetooth for my call... kinda defeats purpose of having a smartphone if you can't use all features... backward thinking htc.

That sounds like a load of crap on the PRL note, which stands for preferred roaming list, aka while off verizon towers... network / data provisioning should fix the problem... which on sprint's is a quick ##72786# to get network provisioning to reset itself... Been doing that alot lately with the towers here getting the upgrade bugs. Had a nexus 5 phone in a power cycle loop when LTE was turned on in specific areas, had to put it in airplane mode quickly before it powered down, change settings to cdma, leaving it like that til the area was fixed. Only phone that had that problem that I know of. My HTC One Max kept losing tower connection randomly and I still have issues where certain towers won't put the call through to my phone. Which I've heard is an "on going" issue from sprint in certain "markets" LoL... (My guess is any of the newly upgraded towers with spark)

All I know is that when I put in my new SIM it seemed to fix my issue iv not had any problems staying connected to 4g. I figured the Verizon REP was full of B.S.

I created a new thread for this issue with a poll to help htc see if it's a wide spread issue. Will let them know the link tomorrow when I talk to their higher tier techs.

Whenever i am using some sort of tethering software on my sprint g3 i cannot receive phone calls. Pdanet, Easytether, and even wireless tether for root users all had this problem. I know due to sprint spark we aren't capable of using data and voice at the same time, but can't it at least just disconnect you from your data like the good old days? I feel like it's prioritizing your data connection, thus not allowing you to recieve any calls. Ive been told that my phone would ring once, and go straight to voicemail. I'm not even able to see the missed calls unless they leave a voicemail, Heck, nothing even shows up in the call log! If anyone knows of any fix that can solve this problem that would be great. I'm sure many other people are having this issue as well.
I've also noticed that even without tethering if you happen to be using data on your phone at same time someone calling you, you won't receive the call.
I've noticed this also at times. My brother even drive to my house cause he kept calling and it was going straight to voicemail. I was not tethering, just using data. I wounded if I should give Sprint a call bout this issue.

I think this is an unfortunate byproduct of the phone not supporting SVLTE (same as all current spark capable phones). It only has one transmit path, so it cannot connect to 1x when it's connected to LTE. The Sprint network is supposed to tell the phone to disconnect from LTE and connect to 1x when a call is incoming. This is called ECSFB. But in some areas, the network doesn't yet support this feature, so you may miss calls (because as far as Sprint's voice network is concerned, the phone isn't connected). I've read that Sprint is working to get this support to the entirety of their network, but it still isn't complete. Hopefully it will only continue to improve.
Link with a better explanation: http://www.fiercewireless.com/story...upport-simultaneous-voice-and-data/2013-11-19
I haven't noticed this problem, but I'm sure it's happening to me as well. I don't live in a very updated area, as far as Sprint's network is concerned. We don't have 800MHz (because of the IBEZ), and we don't have B26 or B41 LTE yet. Just regular old LTE B25 on most towers.
Hope this helps.
