Hi,
I've been having complaints on the other end of people hearing their own voice echo during calls. It seems to stop if I put it on speaker or lower the in call volume.
Any thoughts/solutions?
I'm currently running rooted stock on T-mobile.
My wife said she heard herself when I called her over the aux in my car. Didn't have that issue with my mt4g. The volume in the car was the same as always, maybe the phone volume needs to be changed.
Ill report back when I play around.

I just flashed stock w/ Odin and left it unrooted - the problem seems to have stopped for the moment. I'm hoping it's related to network service and not hardware/software issues associated with rooting.
They're just messin' wit' you...cause they're jealous!
problem came back - only was able to stop it by turning off noise reduction on the in call menu.
it seems that it was actually caused by me inadvertently activating the noise reduction feature. after deactivating it, it stays off by default and I no longer have the echo issue.

Thanls ill give this a shot. It'd be nice if it auto-disabled when in car mode.

Morning all,
Love this phone, love love love. What I'm worried about though is the in call volume on headphones. Doesn't matter whether I'm using the supplied Samsung ones or a set of Sony ones the volume is so low that the person at the other end is in audible.
I have no problems with volume on anything else (as in music player on in call volume using the actual phone)
Anyone else experiencing this or am I just very unlucky.
I've noticed this too. When having earphones plugged in the call volume is just too low. Last night I had to plug mine out and xall again because I couldn't hear her properly. Good point

this is absolutely the worst news possible, because i make 99% of all my calls with my headset. you guys are saying it is not usable? most of my calls are on the freeway with loud raod noise.
Post on here somewhere secret codes for volume ++

Not sure about volume with the earpieces with mic that came with the sgs2 but my sony earphones volume was quite low during call. I get calls when I'm listening to music a lot.

this app seems to have fixed it for me give it a try it ups the headset volume over default levels.. works fine for my sgs ii
i think you may need to be rooted to use it but not sure
Does it have HAC mode? Setings > Call settings > HAC mode. I set that on my SGS to increase call volume.
+1 on the issue, will try the apk tmo

Same issue and trying the apk now
tried it on my sgs2, and no change to call volume over headphones...

I would like to know about the "HAC" mode to, I wear hearing aids in both ears and it's important to me.

I wonder if this is connectd to another very frustrating problem I've just discovered. When I go out running, I normally have Spotify playing in the background and CardioTrainer occasionally prompting me with updates on how badly I'm doing. Worked fine on my old Galaxy S, now I can't hear the updates over the music because they are so quiet. I've tried fiddling with all the settings, and have also tried Endomondo and SportsTracker and they all seem to have the same problem. Anyone else tried this?
Fixed in latest update

Hey champ, you said this was fixed in the latest update but I just got my galaxy last week from Vodafone Australia and mine has this issue. What update fixed yours and does anyone else know about any fixes?
Fixed? In which update?
Hey,
I have this problem on my (sim-less) SGS2, and no update is available.
Any version number?
i'm having the same problem too. i currently use the stock headset, and am thinking of getting a BT headset as i get calls while driving. tried the app, did not help.
can someone one please help? it will be even better if voodoo sound is developed for i9100. *fingers crossed*
yep. same problem here!
Noticed it as well - on headphones Senn PX 100 II - very annoying (have to plug out the phones each time)
Also noticed the volume problem. The overall voice call quality is not great either. Can someone confirm if the apk. fix helped and if it needs the root access?
People complain that they have problem hearing me in a call. My friends, who also has a GSII, experiences the same thing. Anyone else? Is there an app that can adjust the mic-level?
Same problem here. I was talking in my regular volume to my girlfriend and she said she's having hard time hearing me.
I wonder if this could be an issue with the Scandinavian models? I see that you're located in Finland, and I am in Norway. I've searched both here and through Google, and haven't found any others saying they have experienced it.
Any solution to this?

Nope, didn't know GS2 had noise reduction. Where can you turn it off?
Hello hpe,
Indeed many people have this same problem, and should not be ignored since talking in the phone is the most important use of the phone. For me my volume is sooooooo low that it is nowhere near acceptable volume when increased to the max. I can't hear them, they cant hear me, its annoying.
here are three options might want to try:
A) Enter service mode by typing below code on your dialer :
*#*#197328640#*#*
click the following:
[5] AUDIO
[1] NB (VOICE CALL)
Choose Handset, headset, Speaker (which ever you want higher volume)
[1] VOLUME
[1] SRC Speech RX Volume
Change default values and higher the values any number of your choosing, here is an example:
[0]0_lvl : 68
[1]1_lvl : 72
[2]2_lvl : 76
[3]3_lvl : 80
[4]4_lvl : 84
[5]5_lvl : 88 Higher these values to until hear volume improvement.
Can also edit the values from:
[2]DST I2S1 TX Volume
[3]SRC I2S1 RX Volume: 100
[4]DST Speech TX Volume: 94
This is Samsung volume setting, worked for several people but sadly only worked 2 times for me and values keep resetting for me (doesn't mean for you, so give it a try) Also this is based on STOCK firmware.
B) the second thing you might to try is app called Volume+:
http://androidaudiohacks.com/home/volume-gingerbread/download
This app guarantees it higher the volume without the need of touching its default settings, BUT huge drawback it highers everything: Headset, speaker and Bluetooth EXCEPT HANDSET which is the most important :-(
(I also downloaded many volume increase apps, but Volume+ was the only one got the job done for everything but handset)
C) Lastly get GOOGLE VOICE app (create a GV account if you don't have one)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.apps.googlevoice&feature=search_result
just by installing Google and logging on, every time you make a call, your calls get forwarded through Google voice and volume levels become acceptable in ALL HANDSET, HEADSET, SPEAKER, BLUETOOTH (just like phone should of have been) (this what i personally use fix my volume issues)
Hope one of these work for you.
try turning off the noise cancellation during a call, via the menu button i think.
FYI other threads posted say some people have this low mic issue as well. so youre not alone.

During a call on the call screen, press the menu button and 'turn noise reduction off'. Thats it.

Wow, thanks all! So many great answers. I'll try to disable Noise Reduction, and if that doesn't work I'll try all the great suggestions you gave Extreme184X.
Tell us what worked for you, your solution might someone else with this problem.
Some people have the Galaxy S2 with screen protector that completely protects and covers the entire phone (front, back, sides) resulting in low volume because all mics and speakers are covered.
I can't believe this is still a problem with Samsungs. My wife and I both had Tocco's (don't laugh) and sent them back for this very reason. Now we've purchased GS2, delivery date 02/06/11 and i'm reading about this reoccurring issue.
I turned of noise cancelling, and have had no complaints so far.

I tried to push the menu button during a call, but I can't see any option to turn of noise reduction. How do You guys do it?

I got the same problem! Everyone says they hearing me if im under water.
But when i call someone there is no option for noise reduction!
Please help.
Press the menu-button (lower left corner of the screen) during a phone call.
Unfortunately it needs to be disabled for each call. Annoying.
Alrighty. I searched around and found this question asked a few times around the net, but never answered. Same question is also asked over in the Sprint note2 q&a with no replies...
The question is this..
How the heck do you disable the automatic reduction in volume when plugging something in the 3.5mm jack?
I switch between by car's cd player and a line-in cable to use streaming audio through my phone a lot and am incredibly annoyed with having to turn my phone's volume back up when i plug in the cable. I also dont like being chided like a 10 year old with the "don't listen to loud music" message each time i turn the volume back up... i don't need a nanny. i just want to listen to my music without having to keep fiddling with volume settings.
Anyone know where this "feature" is and how to disable it?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing, as well as how to turn off the "soft ring" or whatever it's called where the ringer starts low when you're receiving a call and after a second or two goes to regular volume.
I've looked in the sound settings and in accessibility but can't find any options for those things.
i seem to be having the opposite problem ...
the volume is loud as hell even on the low setting.
maybe its just me ?

Some custom ROMs have it removed...if you are stock or the ROM you are running doesn't have it removed you can install this app in the market to stop it from happening:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...S5zaHVtb2FwcC5kaXNhYmxlaW5jcmVhc2luZ3JpbmciXQ..
It's free. It runs in the background but I've never seen it consume any battery. All you have to do is open the app and it stops the increasing ring from then on. Make sure and follow the instructions if you don't want the persistent notification. I turned it off and the app has never been killed.
Honestly, that increasing ring was irritating, but i never thought about fixing it... i installed that app and we'll see how its works.
Now if we can just get rid of that stupid volume reduction i'll be set!

Well... I just flashed to beans rom 7.... And the silly volume reduction is still there...
Anyone have any other ideas on wherr this "feature" is hidden so i can excise it like a malignant tumor?

I decided to try Sony's answering machine feature. I recorded a greeting. When I played it back it sounded like I was talking through a towel or something. I called my girlfriend and she said I sounded fine, so I don't think it's a mic issue.
As a check I downloaded 2 different voice recorder apps and both record with the same muffled sound.
Could you guys try and let me know. I'm on the most recent firmware 17.1.A.2.55.

Some new info to report.....
I'm hoping a dev reads this and can shed some light.
People have been complaining in certain situations that they can't hear me on their end. Usually in noisy environments (on my side)
I downloaded "Easy Voice Recorder" in an effort to run some more testing. This particular voice recorder lets you override the phone's default for
1) noise suppression
2) echo cancellation
Turning off noise suppression makes a huge difference. Still sounds like **** compared to every other phone I've had in the last 5 years but it's improved greatly.
Thinking back, the times when people complained about the call quality on my end, I'm pretty sure my Z2 noise suppression is to blame.
Two things then:
Someone please download "Easy Voice Recorder" and test how a recording sounds. Then disable noise suppression in settings and test again.
Secondly, does any dev know of a way to alter the default noise suppression functionality?
Again, as I have divulged in several threads, I am unlocked, rooted and have lost my DRM keys. If this is not an issue for anyone else I'm wondering if it could have something to do with that...someone please take a minute and test this for me..Thanks.
Hi I got similar issues. Look at my thread, "Bad call Quality".
Hello guys,
My XAU Dual showing microphone issues during making calls! when I make a phone call my friends keep complaining about barely hearing me (very low voice) or my voice is like someone talking in a deep tunnel with too much echo ..sort of that!
here are some things I tried to fix the issue but all failed to fix it:
1- I tried factory resetting my device
2- tried repairing my device software using Xperia Companion
3- tried disabling audio enhancement (ClearAudio+ ....etc)
4- in settings>call>SIM>Equalizer ...set to normal
5- tried looking for microphone noise suppression in settings.. can't find it
Didn't drop my device & never exposed to any fluids!!
Tho, I ran diagnostics>tested my microphone, one time I hear my voice good, then gave it another try later on & the microphone recorder a very low sound!!
Am really outta options here & this issue really sucks
My device model number is F3212, running android 6.0, build number 36.0.B.2.146.
Any ideas..
I've been experiencing this problem on two different XA Ultras. The microphone seems to switch to the one on the top of the phone so if you hold the phone upside down people can hear you. I've had to switch to speakerphone output to talk to people when this happens. Switching back to phone from speakerphone sometimes makes it work normally but not all the time.
I suspect it has something to do with an app that is running earlier, maybe google play music or OK google.
I have tried reset and it doesn't help. The problem comes back.
There is a similar if not identical issue on another Sony phone, the solution being to turn off microphone noise suppression. I haven't tried this.

I didn't notice that flipping the phone or switching to speaker output might work, gotta try it first.
What bugs me the most is the fact that I can't find anything related to disabiling microphone noise suppression at an section of this device settings!
Am using a headphone currently & waiting for Android nougat to hit the device & hopefully fix the issue.
This problem was never there when I first used my device out of its box, but later on it appeard after may be 2 upgrade patches of Android 6.0 few months later.
Waiting is my only hope...
