[Q] Clicking noise near the earpiece.. - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Grab the bottom of your phone and shake it. Listen at the top of the phone I get tick tick tick tick tick..
I've read that ppl have had this same noise caused by the autofocus lens I just wanna double check before I go back to t-mobile with this thing..

First thing I learned about a new born. Never...Ever...Ever...shake them. It makes their tiny brains inside their huge heads...shake, shake, shake...and then they die.

so then yours does it too?

I'm not going to try it...because that is what's causing it probably. :silly:

lol im just hopin it's not a loose resistor or something

Mine does it just by tapping on the top half of the screen. I guess I'm going to try to take it back to sprint especially since I know its happening to other phones so they can't say I dropped it or something

need your opinion on what my problem is.

ok so i have a tmobile tp2 and been having it since the first week it was released.
for the pass couple of days the call, home, and back buttons wont function like they need to.
also when i slide my keyboard up the screen goes completely black even when i close my keyboard, the only way to fix it somewhat is to keep pushing the sleep/wake button untill it turns back on.
my guess is that maybe something like a cable became loose and is causing it to have these problems, and i just wanted to hear what you guys have to say about it, or what you think the problem is and what you would recommend to fix it because i cant afford to buy a new phone for quite awhile.
Posting in the Accessories forum might not be your best shot at an answer.

Sounds like an app running to me. Even File Explorer (when searching the Windows folder) can cause my phone to hang for a long time. I would check in task manager to see if something is running. You can also try and app called "Clean Ram", it works great. The other option is a hard reset, to ruke out software issues. It could be harware, but I doubt it.

Very true.
It's likely a loose cable as you presumed. Hopefully you still have time left on your warranty.
I hate to be the oen to say it, but it sounds like your ribbon cable is going.... My son had the same thing happen on his Kaiser/Tilt (Grandpa to this Phone)... It started like you said... then got worse over the matter of a few weeks... His screen woudl only work when it was closed... the buttongs on the screen housign stopped working properly... then his memorycard reader (it was in teh screen part on that phone) went nuts... got to the point where that phoen was basically useless... I hope that isn;t your problem, but it sounds like it..

yeah i can pretty much say that it is the cable since i could still slide my keyboard but the screen just looks fuzzy like and when i close it, it takes time to adjust back to normal. so basically now its just an all touch screen phone to me now... sort of sucks since i miss using the keyboard so much.
and yeah the buttons got worst now to a point where none of them worked but somehow the back button started working again so thats the only button that does work now.
and a new problem started occuring in the last few days, the screen would turn on by itself with even a slight bump around where the battery is located, it really sucks for me cause it kills my battery faster and it just starts opening up random apps while its in my pocket.
I would like to hear what finally happened. People don't forget we are using WM phones. So no matter what the problem, hard reset before deciding!

wow super late response to this.
but my final verdict is that it was the flex ribbon cable that is the issue.
my TP2 doesnt even show anything no more, its still functional but you just cant see whats goin on with the screen because its like its turned off.
it stopped working on me on dec 25,2010 (what a great present from the phone, huh?) to how i described it.
so now im using my sisters old HTC dream, but even this one is starting to have an issue with the ribbon cable too! i just get bad luck with these phones now i guess.
edit: oh yeah i still have my Rhod210 just sitting on my desk till i get it fixed... oh how i miss my TP2!
Another late response then
Fixed it yet, have you?
this occasionally happens to my phone too, that it, the screen blanks out sometimes. the cause in my case is pocket lint. since it's hayfever season, i carry tissues in my pocket which kind of disintegrate to confetti after a while. while my tp2 is in my pocket, these tissue particles tend to get in behind the ribbon cable and cause some kind of blockage. by just blowing in around the ribbon cable area, it tends to clear out those fluffy bits and the screen is working again. so don't carry tissues in your pocket with your tp2

i actually took the time to open up the touch pro2 all the way today for a full diagnosis on it, and i was right. it was the cable. where the cable is exposed when it tilts, it looks like it sort of got stripped around that area. im not sure how but it left part of the cable exposed which im guessing is whats causing it to have the issue. i was taking a couple of pictures as i was disassembling it, but i forgot to take a picture of the cable itself to show you what i mean. maybe ill disassemble it again tomorrow so i can take a pic! =)
but yeah im still using the g1, and i finally fixed it! (ended up bricking a g1 so i used the other as replacement parts on it) but hopefully not for long cause graduation is tomorrow for me, and i MIGHT end up getting a new HTC phone as a graduation present from the family. so i hope that does happen!
ok so i reopened the touch pro 2 and took a pic of the cable to show you what i ment.

x10 half dead, pinched ribbon cable. HELP!

yesterday I decided against my better judgement to try and take apart my x10 to see if I could get to the speakers, it sounded distorted during phone calls when the volume was all the way up. I used the dissasembly guide here: http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/05/10/xperia-x10-disassembly-guide/
however once, i started reading the guide, i realized I had to basically gut the entire phone to get to the main call speaker, so i put it back together. all i did was take out the screws, removed the lower support and used a credit card to pry between the covers and worked my way down. thats as far as i got, I had the back cover off and then I reassembled after reconsideration. however, the phone didn't work when i turned it back on. I mean, it works and I can see the backlighting on the screen but no logo or anything. I know it's actually booting into android because I can unlock the phone by memory and proper finger placement without even having the display working. I hear the "click" when it unlocks my phone and the volume/updown beeps. i've even heard my personal set notification tone go off a couple times. however, aside from the screen not working (besides backlighting), it wont respond to a phone call or chime when you send it a text message. If i use a different phone to call mine, it rings several times until you leave a voice message like normal. so, its not acting like its off. so again, I know it's actually booting into android.
after further inspection I realized that there is a ribbon cable on the bottom right hand side (battery side up) particularly close to where the covers snap together. I don't know if I did it with the credit card swipe or the covers weren't aligned well when I snapped it back together but I can see one little trace with a magnifying glass and a flashlight where it was "nicked" or scored. one teeny tiny little thing and my phone is inop.... does anyone have any suggestions? maybe like where I can get that ribbon cable? I'd start over with a new phone but the ebay prices are ridiculous. this use to be an ATT free upgrade phone and now its discontinued. I really doubt you can fix a ribbon cable... im feeling pretty helpless here.
I think you should send to shop to get professional repair before it getting worse.

[Q] Really love the z2, BUT...........

I will have to trade it in if i cant find a solution for my issue
Basically i have only 2 issues with my phone
1) I keep my phone in my back pocket generally, but quite often when i pull it out of my pocket, the little door for the sim card/charger has popped open........ altho it makes me a bit scared to submerge it, i can live with this
2) This is the dealbreaker, if i cant solve this the z2 will be getting sold and something else will take its place. Again this only occurs in my pocket, but every single time i pull phone out, its changed the homescreen...... widgets either get added toor removed from homescreen, apps open and run, music player starts and stops by itself, notification bar quick settings icons get added or removed, flight mode gets activated, silent activated etc
I believe this is caused ny the screen reacting to metals, wood and lead, is therea way to turn this feature off so it will only work with my finger touching the screen?
As i said, its a fantastic phone and id like to keep it, but as long as it gonna keep doing these random things in my pocket then its just not worth keeping
You could see if 'Glove mode' is selected in Settings > Display. If it is, turn it off.

Your flap is defective. Same thing happened to me. I've bought a new flap (for about 10€) and now it's fine.
Then, don't open your flap too often, prefer wireless file transfer and charging via magnetic port.

The screen will still respond to metal objects and pencil lead etc, but it should be activated by your backside through your jeans anymore.
Crap..... glove mode is not switched on........ guess it gotta go up for sale then. Will be sad to see it go tho, n yeah already got magnetic charger n wireless connect.... ive only actually opened that door twice lol
Or another possibility, as im rooted, is there something i could remove/freezethat will stop the screen responding to other materials????
Not to my knowledge. It's strange, I often carry mine in my back pocket (screen facing inwards) and have never had the screen turn on. I can't say the same for my G3 which often turns the screen on.
Since it is isolated case and no one else expierenced this as far as i can tell its user error, you got dodgy apps or there is something wrong with the way you handle the phone.

possibly but i wouldnt have thought so..... i dont treat this phone any differently to any other phone ive owned (well.... actually i havent thrown the z2 across the room...... yet, lol) and as far as apps go, i only actually have 5 or 6 downloaded apps installed, all of which i have used without issue on previous phones, and deleted around half of the useless (to me) pre loaded system apps, and its been doing it since i had it, well since a few days after i got it, but the first few days were a weekend and i wasnt at work just chilling at home so phone didnt really go in pocket

Actually yesi do have that switched on..... even if that the cause tho, my work trousers arent made of wood, metal or lead so screen shouldnt be responding to my backside. I will turn it off n see how it goes tho, it might be the cause but then again you gotta be quite precise for that double tap t work anyway and my backside is tiny lol so maybe not........ great suggestion tho

Well I just tried my phone unlocked against my jeans and it still detects and operates the screen... So you never know
Steve
I have knock on turned off - otherwise when walking with the phone in my pocket listening to the FM radio, I end up sending several texts and emails....
Update: It appears it was actually the 'tap to wake' causing the issue..... i turned it off and went to work friday night and when i got home saturday morning phone was exactly how it should have been, no open apps, no options changed, no icons removed. Nice feature but think ill leave it off forever lol

No Sound from Speaker

This did not only solve my problem. It is funny to read:

"Slap on the back fixed it. Don't they do this to newborns also?"
"reminds me of long back when old CRT tv's needed a good slap on the side to set things right ......more the technology changes more it remains same "
actually I was going to tell you that, I fixed my father's phone with that

Blue line - would you claim on gadget insurance?

Hi all,
My dog decided tonight he would walk up my bed to where my tablet was whilst I was leaning over getting a drink. I immediately moved his paw from the screen and didn't think much of it as it auto locked - pressed button to unlock it and there's this blue line, pretty unhappy as I've not had it long but did take out insurance on it.
I randomly started tapping the screen to see if it helped but it didn't, but then I was tapping around where the dogs only paw went on the screen and tapping it around there seemed to take the line away.
Then I did it again and it came back so I know how to get the line and get it off, but my question - it it likely or possible to get worse or to the point where it shows one day and won't disappear.
Shall I claim on the insurance? What if I send the item with the blue line and by time it reaches them its gone?
I've uploaded some YouTube vids of what's going on
P. S the second video is the plastic/rubber end to my back scratcher so nothing too hard.
Cheers
