How can I find the .ops for odin for my device? I tried flashing without it, but it whines about missing an unnamed file.
***Edit: Okay, so it turns out the version of Odin for the galaxy player uses .pit files, which are easily found in the dev forum. Supposedly 1.3 and 1.85 work will work. I've personally used version 1.3 with my device.***
With Odin, you need to put the device into download mode and you are only going to use odin to install a custom kernal. Then you use cwm to install a rom on your sd card.

I'm having the same issue. Any help would be appreciated.
Well, you can find backups of most models on the forum. If you want to make your own, it will take some studying. I recommend meticulus's partition dump tool over in the development thread, exelent for someone who doesn't want to do a bunch a adb shell or terminal emulator. here is the link. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450149

Well, an easy way to get CWM is flash a Kernel that is for your version of Galaxy Player. Look on the Development page and you will find a kernel that suites your needs. Very simple to do using Odin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0imhKnMtQ9A
You need to flash a kernel that includes CWM and do a backup in that. Don't use ROM Manager.
CWM Recovery
In the development forms for the Player, there is a CWM flashable .tar you an use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840
I used Odin (not my favorite program, but it works) and the flash took a total of 3 seconds. CWM will be installed and you can make a Nandroid for the player. Best of luck.

hi. based on the link, I tried flashing Entropy's kernel, but I can't seem to find the .tar file. I assume that this was what i had to download:-
File Type: tar DD_01142012.tar - [Click for QR Code]
but when I get it, it appears as an extractable winrar file. So I extracted it and got the zImage file, which doesn't have the .tar
Firstly, is that the right file to download?
secondly, if it is the right one, do i extract it or just flash it as it is?
i am using Odin btw. Just rooted my SGP 5.0 using superoneclick

Hello
I tried hard to install CWM but couldn't
I got the cf-root from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
downloading and trying both CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v5.0-CWM5.zip
and CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEF_KJ2-v4.4-CWM4.zip
thinks you may need to know:
-I updated my device to 2.3.5 using kies
-my Kernal version 2.6.35.9-I9100JPKJ2
-I root the device using: SuperOneClickv2.3.3
- when I used the odin to download the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_KI4-v4.4-CWM4.zip couldn't transfer data to device
So I don't know what to do?
You could use mobile odin as you have root
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
just odin any rooted kernel like siyah or speedmod, they come with CWM
Exactly, Set your phone in "download mode"
connect to odin
and flash by choosing the kernel tar file as PDA
thanks for replay
But I used the stock one and I would like to keep it
As far as I know, you need to flash whole kernel if you wan't to get cwm

i have samsung galaxy s2 gt I9100 on GB 2.3.4. i tried using odin over and over again and would always stop at flashing cf root tar on flashing Zimage, in the end i used doomlords root tool then i used chainfires InitialCFRootFlasher.zip and installed zImage manually then i had cwm manager, so made back a backup, then installed mobile odin. is it possible that i will have the same problems with mobile odin does anyone no even if i get pro version

For Mobile Odin Lite app, you have to install the FlashKernel I9100 v2.0 apk.
Does this work on your phone?
I have read your post in Mobile Odin thread and had in mind that this did not work either.
You have to download the FlashKernel zip file, extract with 7zip (you know it now) and copy the apk file to your phone.
Then click the apk file on your phone (with any explorer app, or stock My Data app) and click "Install".
If you are rooted, the FlashKernel I9100 v2.0 app should be installed.
After that, install Mobile Odin Lite app (the same way).
I would always recommend to check the free/lite version first before buying the paid/pro app.
Good luck !
i already found the right add on apk and installed it, its all set up and ready to go, just was a little scared that it might have the same problems as the pc odin. i was a little worried that if mobile odin came across a problem that it wouldnt back down and do a bit of damage. i have had to go the hard way round rooting and installing cwm i was worried that there was some type of lock on my kernel from the people that sold me phone. im a newby with galaxy s2. thankyou all for you help
thankyou, i took a chance and tried, just updated from GB 2.3.4 to GB 2.3.6 with mobile odin and it seems to have worked, made me sweat a bit with this week old phone but all seems to be well thanks again guys
I got into download mode with ressurector and flashed froyo with odin it passed but now it does'ent work and then i tried ressurector again but now it's not detecting my device :crying: is there any way to fix it?

how
You install a kernel the same way you installed the rom. You'll want to download rumirand's kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414565
Detailed installation instructions are included in that thread.
Oh, and if Odin's not detecting your device, try rebooting your computer. Sometimes odin doesn't end the session properly; and, when that happens, your PC can't talk to the player at all.
cant get on download mode

cant get on download mode thanks anyway
problem solved
I needed to get an unbrick service from someone on ebay.:victory:
i have been searching for days and i cannot seem to find the modem for kj4 in TAR format. i have tried the websites that convert zip to tar and they do not convert where odin can read it.
What options do i have without flashing a custom kernal with CWM on it?
i have my stock 2.3.4 minus the bloatware running now and i do not want to change that as my battery life has been perfect and bug free.
Correct me if im wrong but all i need is to have the phone rooted and ODIn can flash the modem in for me?
i've tried to get CWM without flashing and apparently it cant be done.
invest in the PRO version of mobile Odin from the Play Store. Mobile Odin will flash files without changing the flash counter, too.
Here's a link to a stock kernel that has cwm. you can flash this with mobile odin, then flash whatever you want from either cwm or mobile odin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823
If you're rooted, just flash the zip file, look for the modem in the modems thread in development
Edit: sorry, somehow the last part of your post didn't register in my head, lol, try the pro version of mobile Odin like mentioned above

this will work for any gingerbread: 2.3.4, 2.3.6. Just download the file (about 6 megs i think), put it on your internal sd card, open mobile odin, choose kernel, select it from your internal card, go down to "flash firmware" in mobile odin and flash it. you will now have cwm recovery, then you can flash your modem from cwm.
I have never flashed a modem from mobile odin do I don't know what type of file it will need to flash kj4.
no. you don't have to do a data wipe.

here, try this. this is the one I use if I ever flash back to stock.
thanks! worked like a charm. had to download most of the stuff to the computer first but CWM recovery is on here.
scratch that. cwm is on here but it cannot do anything. even the reboot system option doesnt work. i installed rom manager thinking it would help but that puts the phone into download mode.
i tried the flash modem with mobile odin but it wont find the modems that i have one the device. im assuming it only read TAR files. so im still back to square one.
I need this search button to pop back up on XDA

avoid Rom Manager at all costs. just put the zip of the kj4 on your sd card. boot into recovery (hold both volume buttons and power button at the same time until you see the SAMSUNG splash screen. choose zip from sd card and flash.
I'm astonished that nobody even suggested using modem.bin and odin or heimdall. No need for new kernel or cwm. My faith is waning here.

I unzipped the file and did the bin file on mobile Odin. It finally worked so I didn't need cwm which by the way doesn't work on my phone for whatever reason. I installed it from two different kernels but when I select an option the screen just sits there. Turns out kj4 sucks for me so I'm going to go try another one. My battery life had gone down with this modem.

depending on the kernel you used with CWM in it, you should probably have been using the HOME button to select
