16gb Nook Tablet. Internal NookOS has never been messed with. I've been running CM7 from the SD card. The CM7 crashes a lot because of my SD card and apparently that's messed up the NookOS and now I can't boot back into the internal. I've tried the step-by-step Unbrick from the thread here and that didn't work. It keeps going back to "Please Restart Your Device...".
Any ideas?
I am of no help but can offer one thing
hey I am having a similar problem, mine nt stopped working (spontaneously started trying to factory restore and failing over and over) then I booted off sd, cm7 for a while.

You might want to keep an eye on the topic I posted today as well see if anyone has some help
Thanks. I thought about piggybacking on your thread, but then I decided against it. We are having similar problems. I guess we should keep an eye on each others threads.

Please tell us what you tried. .
I would recommend a CWM Recovery placed onto a ( good ) spare SD Card and boot it up ( from an 'off' condition ) by plugging in the power to the usb port.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21895025&postcount=14
.
or how about a "a clockwork mod backup of stock rooted" ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495869
.
And thoroughly read and ask questions. The worst thing to do is NOT ask a question.
Thanks for replying. This is what I tried...

ah, and did you read this thread ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610682
it was at the top of a google search.
I did check that out. Since it involved having rooted the internal and using CWM I kinda figured it might not apply to my situation.
I'm going to try the Ubuntu method. I'm downloading the image now. I didn't realize it's over a gig! Gonna take a few hours.
Any alternate links? This one is slow as heck.
I have read several times that the 'Ubuntu Method' does not work if you got bad ( goofed up ) partitions.

Isn't that the method you recommended before? Any other advice?
Edit: I suppose you didn't recommend it, you just pointed me at that thread. Not trying to insinuate you gave me bad advice.

Did you format your sd card within Cm7? That seems to trigger a bug that completely bricks the device. Just happened to me, it's been discussed over in the development forum. Sucks but if you're like myself and several others, it's basically a 250$ paperweight now.
Keep watching, I wouldn't be surprised to see a fix at some point.
And shortly thereafter ...
Don't give up yet, there's hope on the horizon.
I found something that may be of use to you in the development forum. Also as a side note to other people, do your best to stay away from the SD card install of CM7! It's apparently extremely risky right now and pretty likely to brick Nooks. Go for an internal installation if you can.

Got mine fixed thankfully. Definitely a scary hour or two there.
Mine was an internal install, and the brick was caused by trying to format the sd card through CM7, which apparently formats some other vital partition instead....they've taken down the links to download CM7 for now.
Yeah, they don't want anyone else to stumble across the install files and end up bricking their Nooks. I'm impressed at how fast they've been moving though, so I won't be surprised if they have a fixed version up within the next week, or even earlier. These dudes are incredibly industrious and they really seem to love hacking.
Haha, now I have it back up and running, back to the 1.4.1 + root zip mod that's floating around the dev forum....and it reboots every time i start downloading something, anything so far, from the market. *sigh.* gonna try fixing permissions, and then possibly wipe and re-apply the mod with cwm....

Well, if you're having the same problem that many of us others are having, follow the link in Mike_Ironfist's post a few posts back from here. If you follow that link, it will walk you through creating a CWM SD card that you should be able to boot with, and then further fixes follow in that linked post.
Other than that, I'm not sure. It worked for me and got me unbricked but now I'm stumbling with other problems sadly.

Thank you very much, I am recovered ~ ~ thank you ~
I have been scouring these boards for hours and can't find my exact problem so I think I need to post this as a noob. I did Albert Wertz's method of rooting my Nook Tablet 16GB which he states will void the warranty. Afterwards I showed version 9.9.9 so I think it was rooted however I never saw superuser and such. I did something where the main menu bar no longer appears when pressing the n button too, annoying, I want it back too.
Anyway I booted into CWM from SD and then removed my boot SD and installed another SD with the img files on it. I have about 4 img files on it from throughout the day trying to update to CM7 and then tried a restore and just a CWM flash, every img file I select starts to perform it's update and somewhere around "extracting files" it says "installation aborted". At first I thought I had a bad memory card but both cards behave the same so I think they are good (creating 70MB partition on the CWM). I did a system restore on it and now it reports version 1.4.0 but I still get all the same errors, I'm stuck. I've spent about 9 hours of messing with this today and can’t think straight. I am going to bed and will try tomorrow, but if anyone could please tell me what I am missing I would very much appreciate it. Happy Easter ! Thanks, Mark O

In CWM, you need to install from .zip files. It sound like you're trying to install .img.
Thanks... I was installing .zip files, not .img. I was pretty useless last night. I used Alberts 4_5SD recovery this morn and got it rooted to 9.9.9 and I had superuser and titanium backup so all was good. I ran NWM from internal on the tablet and told it to install ROM from the SD card. I pointed to the file and told it to backup, then install the new ROM it said an error had occured when I tried this. I then booted from another SD card to go to CWM and after the white screen with the box, it went into backup and then restored the ROM, however it took me back to a unrooted version. It looked for the ROM I wanted to load but that was on the other SD card. Now I am back at square one, frustrated...
I think I might have found the problem but I am not sure. When I was doing the original CM7 update I wrote CWM to the E drive, (MyNook) so now the drive reports a total size of .99GB with 433MB free. So CWM is installed on this drive and I think that is the proplem. Is there a way to get CWM off the E drive? If I can just uninstall it, will that be sufficient enough to get the root back and then correctly install CM7? Thanks again in advance.
I guess this is turning out to be an ongoing update from me, lol... I am back to a rooted Nook Tablet with 9.9.9 So since I am a glutton for punishment I will try again tonight to do the CM7. I simply deleted the CWM file that I found in the internal memory and it seemed to not hurt anything.
This time I am planning to download Indirect’s latest "NOOK Tab Recovery Flasher.apk" directly to my Nook Tablet, (at the inlaws now and no wifi
If I understand correctly it will install CWM direct on my tablet, I am just wondering where it will end up installed? Then I downloaded the file for internal CM7 installation, the file is named "Nook-Tablet-CM7-Alpha-Final-TEAM-B-signed" I have it and nothing else on the sd card. So when I run CWM from the Nook, I point to the .zip file on the SD card. Sounds easy but after three screw ups, I am aprehensive.
If someone could please confirm that this procedure and the files I am using are compatible and should work with my 16GB Nook Tablet. Again thanks very much and I hope all have been enjoying this Easter holiday........

The steps that you have listed in this post are correct. If you do this exactly, everything should go according to plan.
Indirect's great app installs CWM to the recovery partition of your device, overwriting the B&N stock recovery. You can always go back to stock recovery if need be, though, so don't worry.
Thanks Solar.Plexus
The procedure worked as I hoped. I don't understand what went so wrong in my first attempt but the main thing is my wife doesn't look at me with THAT look anymore, since she thought I bricked her 12 hour old NT.....

Alrighty, so I rooted using the Indirect method and I have tried unsuccessfully for a long time to unroot it. I have come to terms with the fact that I can't unroot it.
My biggest issue that I need help with is uninstalling/installing apps. Uninstalling apps removes them from the app tray, but only until the device is rebooted. Nothing STAYS uninstalled. Same with installing apps. It installs and runs while the device is on, but as soon as it reboots, the app is gone.
Anybody got any ideas?

I don't flame noobs as I am one, but question. Why did you post this question if you wouldn't accept help and no one can help?
The suggestion you were given is proper if you have a 16gb NT that came as 1.4.0. It will work if you are able to complete the task properly. It formats appropriate partitions and then rewrites them with zeros then places 1.4.0 recovery and reboots recovery. It does work; for me at least. I have used numerous times.
I keep an sdcard with this and another with cwm boot ready at all times as I tend to try new things regularly.

I'm asking for help on my app problem. I'm not flaming anyone. I'm just saying that I already asked for help a month ago on how to unroot my NT and, while lavero.burgos was very helpful, it was never solved, even trying the several ways to unroot she and others suggested. I'm not looking for help on how to unroot/reroot. I've tried the Adam Outler post and it doesn't work on my NT. It won't boot into CWM. And I can't use ADB. (see here for my original post on unrooting)
As I've said, I accept that I cannot unroot my device for whatever reason. I just need help with my app problem. I even installed Titanium and uninstalled the unwanted apps. Rebooted and they all came back. My NT is like 10-Second-Tom from 50 First Dates, I swear lol
Also, side note, I'm pretty sure the reason the acclaim update doesn't work is because my NT doesn't have the B&N firmware on it anymore. I brought my NT to B&N and the guy tried resetting it for a while and he couldn't get it to reset. He said it was because there wasn't any B&N firmware left.
Don't have a NT, but planning on getting one.
However major post-root tool is this: http://roc-city.com/android/SdxAppRemoval-1.5.apk
Does that help? Make sure you backup any apk before you delete them - if you mess up, then you can always restore the apk.
I will have to try when I get home tonight. I'll let you know, thanks.
Like I said, it was rooted using the Indirect method. So it was reset to 1.4.0 before rooting. It now reads as 9.9.9. It's a 16g.
OK, sorry...haven't been able to get to trying out the suggestion.
When I do the Adam Outlet Ubuntu method, it just reboots a bunch of times (almost like 8 failed boots) and then boots up like normal. No Ubuntu, nothing. Just boots up like there's no SD card in.
Next suggestion?

No. I saved a text file named "test" to the internal memory under documents. It showed there until I unplugged the NT from my computer and then I couldn't find it manually on my NT. Plugged it back in, went to the documents folder and it was gone.

I have same problem with xoxomissashlee. I have read this thread, but can it solve ?
I can't solve this problem(yet). It can be some kind of software lock or bad memory chip. My NT is booting from sdcard now.
I got a NT not long ago and it is now rooted and running CM10, however I still lost in regards the 1gb user partition. CM10 is installed in that partition and I wanted in fact repartition the NT but the process seems to be confuse and risky so I was wondering if I have to stay llimited to work with just 1GB.
How about games and other programs I download? Are they all be installed in that 1gb?
I inserted a 16gb card but I cannot re -direct the apps to install in the external or even move them to the sd ext card. I also cannot see it with a file manager.
Could I use the B&N partition to load movies, apps etc or it will be sitting there useless?
Is there maybe an easier way to re-flash and repartition?
Thank you
BUMP!
You can reaprtition the same way they do in stores if you want to and get an 8GB partition for own storage. The repart.img mentioned in many other topics will do that for you. You will loose everyhting and get right back to out of the box stock firmware if you do it, but it's really easy.

The download link is in the very beginning of this post. If you've got image writing software already you can then jump to step 2. Extract the downlad and burn the reaprt.img to a card. Insert card and boot to it. After a few minutes a green chejmark should appear. (If a red cross appears instead you're in trouble.) Remove card and an update starts and goes on for a few minutes and you can then start over with yout CM10 install again.

So after doing this will I have to reroot or I just have to reinstall cm10? Getting my 16gb card in the mail (hopefully today) should I wait to get the card or can I just copy everything from my 8bg to the 16 and everything remain? Thank you for your help!
It's probably me being stupid, but I don't understand what setup you have and quite what you are talking about. Running the repart .img will completely erase everything on the device and set it back to freshly bought. Whatever you have in internal memory that you want to save you need to save somewhere else.
I don't get your reasoning that CM10 is installed in your 1GB partition, because that is not the norm.
Probably me being stupid, but I can't help you.

Well, if you're installing CM10 you don't actually have to root as a separate process. Just install CM10 and rooting will come done at the same time. Itäs only if you plan to run stock you need to root.
If you have to go and get stuff from several pages you are probably not doing the installing in a very efficient way. Possibly things can be done a lot easier now than whe you originally did it.
Ihave made several posts outlining an extremely easy way to install CM. Look for them if you want to.

I had already done the root from a video I saw on youtube then used your link for cm from the [Q] Noob Alert! Nook Tablet 8GB Rooting Question! post. So just doing the cm from that same post will also root my device? I don't really need anything on the actually nook. I got it as a gift and use the kindle app for all my books. I will defiently look into your other posts. I just got the NT a little less than a month ago.
If you root before installing CM10 you'll just overwrite the root you did, so no point in doing it.
Once CM10 is installed your Tablet should be rooted.
All you need to do is get into CWM 6.x.x an flash the ROM and appropriate gApps zips.
Hello all, I am looking for a little advice. I'll give as much backstory as possible:
I used the cyanogenmod one click installer, everything went well. Since the one click installer put twrp on I went and put clockworkmod on since im more familure with it. Everything fine restarted and phone worked however after I installed (attempted to install facebook messeger) the device rebooted and would not come back on. Sat for 5 mins vibrating over and over and over. Its not completely dead I am able to get to recovery and to download mode and believe I just had a bad download/install. Since i have Clockworkmod on here, I am thinking I could just install the most up to date stable rom available but I have a question:
How do I put the rom zip files on phone if phone wont come on.
Any advice towards this would be appreciated.
First off, where did you find a cyanogenmod one click installer? Possibly that was not meant for the I717.
Don't you have an external micro sd card? Place the card in your computer and copy the ROM zip to it. Put it back in your phone and use it to flash.
