[Q] Ok Let me get this straight? (P4VZW) - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE from verizon..
I got CWM installed, and tried AKOP... No LTE support
Tried CM9, no LTE support...
so basically there is no LTE support or camera support for the tab? or did I miss something? (totally possible)
Thanks for your help.
BTW both booted fine, and looked good, but without LTE this tab is worthless to me.

No camera because no one has written a camera driver for ICS and Samsung hasn't released the official ICS for our tab. LTE isn't on any ICS ROMs, either, just Honeycomb.

thanks
now that is quite disappointing honestly.. I knew about the camera, and was ok with it, but without LTE... I might as well not have the thing
guess I have to wait till Samsung releases ICS, and Verizon checks it out..
I do Kind of wish that the ROM publishers would make that clear... you download a VZW version of a rom you assume that that would work unless otherwise specified.

So LTE doesn't work, but does 3g?

Don't get confused here . .for the SCH-i905 you will NOT get mobile data to work PERIOD. Flashing ICS based ROMs (CM9 or AOKP) that are marked compatible with the SCH-i905 (VZW) version of the GT 10.1 will result in that tablet becoming a WIFI ONLY device.
Until an official release is made there are no drivers available for the camera or the modem built into the LTE version which is why EVERYONE is waiting on camera drivers and all verizon tab users on contract are waiting on modem ones. Before anyone asks, NO the 3g modem driver for 3g models is not compatible with LTE.

Right I understand, but when you read what is and isnt working on the roms, and the only thing listed over and over and over again is the camera, you are likely to make a bad assumption that the LTE radio would work. I am not upset that it doesnt work, just wish the devs would do a slightly more comprehensive job detailing that the radio doesnt work.
I mean honestly if the rom is written with your tablet in mind, and besides and caveats you are already aware of, you would assume that the primary thing that sets your tablet asside from the rest.. would work.
I am just more disappointed that I have to wait for samsung to get off their lazy asses to make ICS a reality, I have a GNEX and am now spoiled by both ICS, and now JB, and really just cant wait to get my hands on them on this tablet.

We already have 3+ gingerbread roms from a month ago... Why do you want a build that will take longer? The devs can probably put the features from it to ours but that may be it, the remove service.jar won't work I dont think so.
according to the samsung site Vibrant is to be supported through a 2.3 gingerbread release, but then that is the Samsung site and they probably release 2.3 after we all moved on to something else. One of the problems most phone manufacturers of android have discovered, is how quickly the upgrading demand is. They did not anticipate that we the public would get so savvy so fast.
But My guess 2.3 release will be in Aug-Sept after the S2 release

Nope, never.
Most of our GPS sucks, and if GPS isn't included its not a "fully functional" rom.
so in theory, no we will never have it.

GPS works fine for some people, even without the hardware fix. So don't say we'll never have it, unless you have some insider info the rest of us don't have. This release probably won't get us any closer, but who's to say we won't get a 2.3 release for our phones. Samsung isn't as horrible at updates as we used to think. Most phones released prior didn't see it past one major update. Samsung has pushed out two major updates for a phone that's coming up on its 1st birthday. Can't say the same for many other OEMs.

I didn't say GPS doesnt work for ALL, but be truthful, most of the GPS of Vibrants do not work, and probably wont work until you do the hardware fix or get another vibrant made at a earlier date.
I wasn't talking about updates directly from Samsung, and i've never questioned their update-mentality. I receive updates on my Samsung TV/Blu-Ray player i bought a year ago still.
I was talking about a "FULLY FUNCTIONAL" rom.
Most of the roms we already have, GPS doesn't work for most, so what makes you think it'll randomly work when we get 2.3? A Software update isn't going to do much except make it about 50 ft accuracy or something like that.

GPS doesn't work on the new 2.3 roms because we don't have drivers, it's a software issue. That will ABSOLUTELY change with an official release. For those with working GPS,(such as me, others who have done the hardware fix, and people who got lucky with revised Vibrant hardware) this WOULD be a fully functional rom.
I didn't say the update would magically fix a hardware problem, but the fact is the GPS issues have nothing to do with the rom, only the hardware. However with CM7, it is an issue with the rom. That's why GPS works for no one, when it worked fine on 2.2 for those without hardware issues. There is a difference between a crippled rom and crippled hardware.

[Q] Verizon 4g gtab root/roms/kernals?

Hey guys/devs. I have been looking around and it does not look like there are any roms or kernals for the verizon 4g gtab 10.1. Also seems like there was only one link to the root file scattared across the world wide web and it is a broken link. If any one has the file or a different link that would be awesome. Also I would love to see some roms and kernals for this thing. Hope someone can help out I know that I am not the only one awaiting some dev to step up to the plate.
Thanks guys!!!
There must be a reason. The reasons I am hearing are:
1) LTE Tab isnt selling that well and consequently the dev community isn't working on the LTE Tab (I don't think this is the case, the guy that sold me mine sold 7 that day. Yes, I asked)
2) Honeycomb is closed source and it is more difficult for the dev community to produce roms (again I don't really buy this. There are a relatively substantial amount of roms and kernels available for all of the other versions of the GT)
3) There are differences in hardware/software that make the LTE GT more difficult to work on. (I can attest to this not being true because I am typing this now on a LTE GT running the Wi-Fi GT version of Starburst Rom. It definitely took some tweaking to get it running, but it runs. That being said I obviously have no 4g/3g radio. Maybe someone is stuck on that part.)
I saw a post from the developer of Starburst Rom saying he would try for an LTE version. Let's hope so because I shelled out extra money for the LTE version which is serving no purpose right now.
any unlock for Verizon 4g to use out side U.S?
or way to convert it to 3g ?
I'm waiting you...
locked tab
the lte version galaxy tab 10.1 can receive 3g data connections as well as 4g when there isnt a 4g available in the area you just receive 3g. I doubt it would ever be unlocked because the bootloader is locked on the lte version galaxy tab
Thanks

My problem (I think) is because I am running a rom that was designed for the wi-fi only version. I have an LTE kernel but the rom seems to still have no access to radio. I am really hoping someone finds the stock rom or someone tweaks a different rom to allow access to the LTE radio.
FYI, if you are rooted and using AnyConnect VPN for work, then the Kernal by Pershoots will break this.
I just flashed his kernal last night and overclocked with no issues. Then of course this morning I get a phone call that internet went down at a site. When I got there I tried to fire up VPN to get back to my main site, and it failed to load the tun.ko module Luckily I was able to flash the stock one back, and then AnyConnect started working.
I would love to be able to be overclocked, but I need AnyConnect to work.
I really miss my Xoom

[Q] Help my NFC

Hello,
I'm a GSII (Korea version) user,and now using CM9.
The reason why I bought Korea Version (though Im not in Korea) is that it has NFC module. As we all know ,NFC is really convenient ,especially for exchanging business card. But I can not find NFC in system setting, could you help me ?
Maybe CM9 doesnt support NFC ,I think, can anyone provide a NFC patch or a package for CM9?
Thanks.

CM in general has issues with NFC on the GS2.
As far as I know, CM developers have the following hardware:
I9100 (no NFC)
I777 (NFC hardware, but was disabled in carrier firmware)
Last time they tried to get NFC working in CM7, bad things happened. With CM9 - don't even think about trying to start on something like this until kernel source is released. Even then, with no ICS-specific NFC libraries (until an I9100P, I777, or M250 leak shows up), it isn't likely to happen.
Speaking of that - have there been any ICS leaks for the Korean M250 series devices? Leaks/updates of Korean firmware tend to not show up here - but you're the most likely to receive an ICS update that includes NFC.
(Odd question - did you have Google Wallet on any of your Gingerbread firmwares?)
The basic problem is that there is one CM developer with NFC-capable hardware (atinm), and on that hardware, the carrier (AT&T) disabled NFC functionality. In addition, it seems like Samsung's NFC libraries don't play nice with AOSP-derived firmwares.

Hi,Entropy512
I have just tried the NFC package of M250k(2.3.5),but FC.
There is no leak for M250s/k so far,and I am still waiting for samsung 's offical updates. I wonder whether can I copy the NFC firmware of M250 (when it's released one day)to CM9 so that the module could work,or there is something wrong with signatures?
As for me ,I don't have a Gwallet on GB,NFC is not available here for shopping ,but for checking the cards' information.I use it as a cards exchanger in business.
Could you tell me why AT&T disabled NFC functionality ,but as far as I know,NFC works well in Korea now?
And the Korea Version still has other BUGs,such as the sensors don't work and no DMB,but I don't know how to let the developers know them.Though I have started some topics in CM forum,it seems not to make a difference.

I have the M250S (korean version from SK Telecom that has NFC and SIM), and I have NO issues whatsoever with the CM9 that's been released here on XDA. The ROM works insanely well, and I'm lovin' every minute of it.
I would really like to see some movement on the NFC front, I know that NFC works on AOSP roms for the Nexus S, just wish there was a way to make that work on the GS2.
Also, the AOSP versions for SGS2 Gingerbread releases were modifiable to include NFC by just installing the missing files that someone released here on the forums a few months back. I understand that the files are completely different from GB to ICS, but is there no way to compare the differences between the Nexus S NFC files and the SGS2 NFC files, and then update the Nexus S's NFC files to work for our GS2's? I REALLY want to make this work, but I don't have much knowledge on the subject.
If anyone is willing to work with me on this and teach me a little on the way, I would be more than happy to start working on this. As it is right now, I'm in Korea, and the trains and buses use NFC cards where you add cash to them and swipe them by the entrances/exits to ride the subways, so if I could get this working I would definitely be the cool kid in town (I'm on an Air Force base here until December)..
+1 to NFC
I've a I9100P (orange UK) that should have NFC but it is currently disabled as I'm using a ICS mod. I've tried using NFC enabler but it caused my system to hang on the install screen. NFC isn't vital to me but I would like to use it as the phone has it.
I guess I'm waiting for a ICS distribution to leak with NFC enabled.
Cheers

NO, T-MO KID, VKL1 or Telus does not work on i717...

I don't know why everyone is claiming that these 3 radio packages enable 3G on the i717. I've tried all 3 and twice each from different sources. I CWM the ATT radio back on it and it's returned to 2G.
I would've bought the N7000 and not taken the risk on an international sim not liking all the hackdoolery going on in my phone. Now I have that concern PLUS I'm not getting the 3G that was the deciding factor in the N7000/i717 decision.
Any thoughts? Perhaps I am missing a setting or something? All I get with the 3 non ATT radios is a little x in the greyed out signal meter /|
If you followed the directions correctly you should be getting 4G on the 1700 band. It does work because I am currently using it. Maybe your area has bad signal?
hmmm
It probably does work. The signal is 2G 5 bars, this is elevated in Manhattan, there's always good signals from all carriers. The meter reads /x| though. I tried the only available settings after installing each of the radios, GSM or GSM/LTE and perhaps one other.
I lose the IMEI with the non ATT radios. No signal. Nothing. As soon as I flash ATT it goes to 5 bars of wonderfully slow 2G...
I've finally got settings, accounts and apps installed so I might try flashing a radio again but I'm exhausted of much else.
I really don't know what could be wrong. Perhaps its the wicked humidity and the lingering high toxicity thick gaseous farts making the air heavy and my mind less clear. It really screws up my zen.

What ROM are you using with the modems? I am on OnlyOne B4 with KID ICS modem from tspx23. I'm getting 3g speeds. It makes a difference what ROM you are on because of the UCLD or UCLE based ROM. There are a lot of different modems for ICS but make sure you got the right one for the right ROM. You should at the very least get above EDGE speeds.

You are using an UCLE3 ROM but to my knowledge, all the modems that are out are for UCLE2. I know it's troublesome, but I would suggest trying a new ROM based off of UCLE2 or even gingerbread to see if you can get a nice full speed 3g on Tmobile. That way at least you know the hardware and radio is good. I like AOKP, but for now I'm using OnlyOne B4 (B5 should be out tonight with some more Galaxy S3 goodies) See my signature.

There is no UCLE3 as far as I know
.....
It is UCLE3.
Whatever this variant it is, it doesn't have Japanese language support. The SIP support is also gone, I saw another poster mention that too. Its stripped of all the good stuff.
This is certainly not the CM I had on the Evo 4G.... The options on that CM were extensive to say the least. It gave one the best attempt at absolute control of every aspect of the device.
By comparison, the CM9 I have on this Note is only a slight deviation from the stock OS. I'm guessing that all the efforts at custom ROMs are getting rather diverse over the years, or perhaps this one is just not as good as the mainstream ones? I noticed how many models of Android there are as opposed to when it was just the Evo and a couple others, it's definitely had an effect...
Perhaps the best way to describe it is quality verses quantity. The collective "milk" intellect of all the dev's is no longer in the milk jug, it is now spread throughout several hundred coffee cups, very, very diluted.

Since they are galaxy s phones you can flash the modems but not all will work. I was trying other modems Thursday, and even though I got bars and I could enter the APN and activate data, the phone was sooo laggy.
Many users tried the new modem and had the same lag problems. But exeriment and report back. If you get a bad result you only have to flash your old modem, not restore your system.
thats the one I tried, it totally lagged my phone out
Why can't it work? Maddening, I know. The US t-mobile frequencies and the two bands used is the issue. They went rogue with that two band scheme and now there's always issues using any hardware on their network.
Would it be possible to swap out the hardware, specifically the modem chip, or is it soldered on there?

The mainboard contains the processors, video, modem, and sound. Not possible to swap chips.
It seems like trading hardware with other xda'ers would be easier and more sure. xda has a sale or trade section.
so do even know if it will be possible to generate a working, better modem from the tmo more at all, or is it just a really difficult task?

the modem file is a binary file that seems like nobody is able to decompile or whatever.
Its always like this throughout the forums --people get a phone made for one network then struggle to make it work on the other.

the truth makes me sad
So when you say "seems" and "struggle" I take that as being very difficult but not necessarily impossible¿

Nothing is impossible ...
But unless a serious interest is taken by developers who know and understand the coding, and how this code integrates into the chipset,
Then you probably won't see progress.
I'm guessing it would take development at the manufacturer level ....to pull it off.
And carrier/manufacturer relationships are often set in stone. It's amazing that our talented developers are able to glean so much for us, given the fact that often times, they have little or nothing to work with, yet they manage to give us some pretty awesome work ..g
