I use these two chat apps on my phone. They are linked to your phone number. I tried installing them on my Prime but can't get past the registration parts about the phone number.
Is it possible to use these apps on the Prime using the same account you use with your phone? I would like to receive and send messages using both my phone and Prime. It is much faster typing with the Prime keyboard dock.
Thanks
Use titanium backup to make a backup of whatsapp on you phone, then restore it on the prime with data. You should be all set.. when there is a new version out, just do a restore on the prime of the app only..
I used a new number on my prime since the messages doesn't always gets delivered to the right device
Thanks for the response. Sounds impractical if Whatsapp confuses over which device to send incoming messages to though.
I also considered having two separate Whatsapp/Kakao accounts (one for phone and one for tablet), but it is a logistically poor idea for when one of my friends wants to start a conversation with me. They may accidentally choose to message my tablet when I only have my phone with me.
I really do not understand why Whatsapp hasn't released a non-phone based app. If someone could explain this to me, it would be appreciated. Because all I see right now is a company not developing for a booming market (think iPad and other Wifi only devices too).

If you're just going to use your phone's SMS for that, you might as well just use MightyText. It's more widely used, it hooks in using a Gmail account, doesnt require Bluetooth to be up, and has a very very bright future...

This is exactly what I want, except using Whatsapp and Kakaotalk instead of SMS.
I suggest everyone who wants this feature to email Whatsapp and Kakao about this Tablet Talk app. I know I am.

Is there an app that can push your sms from your phone to your nook(rooted)? It would be great if there was some server app that could be run on the NC. I live in Canada so I dont have the option of Google Voice. Thanks for your input. I use android-notifier for my pc, if you are wondering what i I am looking for.
For text you can use textfree comes with s phone number so you can send/receive text messages

Thanks animatechnica. Im not too concerned about sending text messages but I want notifications that a text or phone call was made to my phone. If you know of any apps that might do that that would be great.
That would be a very useful app. When I'm at home I just used to carry my phone around. Now that the nook comes along for the ride, two Android devices are cumbersome and redundant. But I need my phone on me for calls and texts so I can't just leave it somewhere. Knowing when I need to go to my phone from my nook would be awesome.

I have tried contacting the developer or android notifier....email was rejected. I must have not followed the proper steps, my fault. I just read that "whatsapp" app was givin 8 million .......if i can get all my contacts to use this I will be golden.....lol. Help still appreciated.
TalkMyPhone might interest you. I use it to answer texts from my computer without having to look at my phone.
Thank veritas....it works perfectly. There is a post on lifehacker on how to set it up. Google talk acts as the SMS client on my nook.
TalkMyPhone (GTalk SMS)..... All set up on my NC too. Works perfectly. Only use for my phone now is as a wifi tether!!!
Talkmyphone is great!!
Thanks so much for the tip on GTalkSMS, I've been wanting this for a long time. I can text from my computer or my nook now!
how do u set up talkmyphone
I use sync SMS along with dropbox and I can receive and and send text messages from my NC. Sync SMS isn't free but it's not expensive. You get the message on the phone and NC plus you can see the whole conversation in both places. I reccommend it.

whilst there is a setup link mentioned in an earlier post (a lifehacker link), it isnt specifically talking about using a NC.
can somebody here, who successfully uses talkmyphone, compile a short how-to for setup on the NC please?
thanks
using Sync SMS
i did a nan restore (CM7 Nightly internal) and now i'm getting the

for each of the voice mails my new EVO 3D gets.
what do i do to stop that ?
you can survey this on XDA texTab : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14922112&postcount=1
It can only connect trough bluetooth now, but the dev is going to add wifi support!

How can I send txt msgs from a NON Rooted Gtab? Is it even possible and what app would I need to do so. I use Handcent on my EVO and love the app but it doesn't seem to send txts from the Gtab.
Any help would be appreicated and Thanks in advance.

Sync sms Is a paid app on the market. You need to have a free dropbox acct to use it. Sends the text to your phone, then the phone actually sends the message.

Google voice question
I saw this post and squeezed in some time to set up google voice. It did work in that I could send texts but I'm not sure what is happening. Is google using my droid x phone's text account - that is am I eating into my monthly texting amount with Verizon when I text from the g-tab? I tried calling my google voice number and my cell phone rang. I didn't answer it but left myself a voicemail. Interestingly enough, Google voice converted it to text and sent it to my gtab. When I send a text from my g-tab I get a copy on my droid x. I tried looking for additional configuration settings on the google voice website when I was signed in but if they are there then they are well hidden. I'm sure that with enough futzing around I'll find the right settings and being able to send and receive texts from the g-tab is awesome but I sure would like to know exactly how Google is playing with my cell phone. I don't think you can set it up without a valid phone number to verify with so you have to give them your real phone number. Experienced users - please chime in.
Wasn't hard at all, just DL it from the market. Make sure to load the Settings also.
It will then guide you through the setup which is really easy.
However, I have decided to remove it from use because it disconnected Handcent from my phone and I really like Handcent with all its features much better and since Iwill do very little txting from my Gtab and do most all my txting while mobile with my EVO, I see no real need for txting on the Gtab.
I will continue to search for another way to txt from the Gtab as long as it doesnt interfer with Handcent on my phone.

Square 1, as you can see by my last post, I wasn't happy with the Google Voice situation so I will ask you if using Sync sms will cause me problems as well. Since I would be paying for this app, I'd like to know if you know any downside to it. As I stated, I really like Handcent on my phone and I would like to continue using it. Will Sync sms interfere with it on my phone to your knowledge? Any light you or anyone else can shed would be appreicated. Also, can you send me the market link for this app please. I am having trouble locating a market that will allow me to DL to my Gtab.
Thanks again

The only thing with syncsms is that sometimes it takes a minute or two for the text to be received on the other end. The outgoing texts will show up in handcent just like you sent them from the phone. (that is actually what the app is doing, so yeah, it uses your phone texts from your plan (if not unlimited.

@ dig'em,
Do you have any idea where I can DL Syncsms to my Gtab? All the markets I have on the Gtab either will not let me DL or they say I already have DL'd it to my EVO and instruct me to pick another device. When I attempt to pick another device, either it won't let me make the selection or if it does, and I hit install, nothing happens on the Gtab.
I have it DL'd on my EVO and its running in the background. I have also noticed it placed two new folders on my DropBox, sms_out & sms-in. Searching my EVO with ES Explorer but I can't seem to find the .apk so I can copy over to my Gtab. I have also sent emails to the Developer which he responded to very quickly, but my last email to him hasn't been answered. In that email, I told him what I just said above and asked if there is a place where I can DL the .apk. Even sent him proof of purchase.
Can anyone assist me?
Thanks in advance,

You can use bluetooth file transfer (free in the market) to send apps between devices, make sure BTFT is installed on both devices. So from your EVO you can send the apk to your gtab.

Textfree is available on the market. I use it on my gtab, nook and inspire and it works great. If you switch from one device to another it will log you off the service on the previously used device before you can log in on the new one.

Not quite. Sync SMS uploads incoming texts from your phone to DropBox and then your tablet downloads them and displays them. When sending messages the tablet uploads them to DropBox and your phone downloads them to send out.
With TexTab, there is no uploading over the internet to a remote location as everything is shared between the devices via bluetooth. This is much faster and uses far letter battery than Sync SMS.
I have tried out both applications and I would most definitely vouch for TexTab, especially because of the support/communication the developer provides and the features he is working on.
Hmm OK. But textab connects through blue tooth surely that will use more battery than sending and receiving a file from dropbox? Also is it quite delayed doing it like that? I'm currently trying textab light. Its a pain having to stay near the phone due to Bluetooth distance

Constant data transfer uses more battery than bluetooth I think. Most people have their phones on them anyway, so it works quite well. The developer is almost ready to start beta testing an update which adds wifi functionality so that may be more appropriate for your needs.

you would be mistaken. bluetooth is always on and using the battery. downloading 160 bytes from the internet is very quick.
@piam
You will have to make your own decision based on your own requirements.
SyncSMS suits me better because I can leave my phone anyplace I want to and still be able to text from my tab.
@dolphinking:
feature request: how about syncing missed call notifications from phone to the tablet?
tablet talk is a great app, works via wifi or bluetooth
I am an avid user of SyncSMS and HIGHLY Recommend. It is one of the few paid apps I do have and it works excellent. Exciting new features coming. This app is worth the money and will only get better with time.
SyncSMS allows sync no matter how close or far apart the 2 devices are, TexTab does not work unless within bluetooth range. Personally, if I am bluetooth close enough to my phone, I will just use it to text.
I use my tab, with SyncSMS when away from phone, or while phone on charge in another location.
+1 SYNCSMS!

I have question about security. I have to know what options are there to find out sms conversation. I use Handcent sms in which I use privacy box with one person to determine that noone else except me would know what we are texting about. But one thing happened. Third person know what exactly we are texting about, even if I constantly deleted sms everyday. I can't imagine the way how he find out this.
I study software development so about security I know something. I know that handcent saves database of sms even if they are deleted or not. I used sqlite to find out what is exactly in the db and find out, that this is not right way how he find out. I also find out that in handcent autobackup option was checked, but noticed that when you delete sms, backup file changed and there were only sms i intented to be there. I also tried antivirus programs to find out if there is some kind of malware or trojan, nothing found.
So my question is: what options of finding out sms conversation are there? Even if third person can access mentioned mobile phone or not?
I will appreciate any good advice

Was it a known person? Or a random person? If he was a friend/person you know, then he either heard through the grape vine or got your phone or the person you were textings phone. I dont think there is a way to "hack" your phone from a computer and view the texts you sent. Unless he got them from your carrier.

Yes it is but would need to go through tones of red tape and have to be a Cop of some kind.
Most likely it was who ever you were texting. There are also other ways that it could happen. Apps that forward all texts to another number used to be a big one back in windows mobile days. Not sure if there is an app like that for android

There used to be an app that could be installed that did all this with the user even knowing about it. Once installed it was hidden away and it never showed that the messages would be forwarded. It was a proof of concept app that someone made for learning. If they had someone working for the company it would have to be a higher up to have access to the cached data bases the company keeps which are encrypted.
I have a feeling the OP was ratted out by the one they were texting.
