To transfer files between phone and pc on wifi I use Samba fileserver. It just turns your phone's internal SDCard into a network share. Free market app. Configure once. Does one thing and does it well. Presto.
I'll have to give that a try...

zzzap.it
We have released zzzap.it out of private beta a couple of days ago. It's actually quite similar and allows you to send any file from your desktop's web browser to an Android phone. There's an optional Chrome browser plugin that resembles the Chrome-to-Phone functionality as well. No user accounts required. The file size is currently limited to 10 Megabytes.
Would be nice to get some initial feedback in case you want to try it out. Thanks!

Hey all, I need some help.
I left my Prime in the seat back pocket of an airplane and when i immediately went bak on the plane to get it it was gone! I unlocked the bootloader so devicetracker.asus.com isn't helping me at all. I didn't have any other tracking software on my prime.
Any ideas? I have the Serial number and a Device ID from having it sync'd to my work email. HELP! Am I SOL?!
IM bummed for you

Why don't you sign into the google play store, push mobile lookout to your tablet, and see if you can auto track it that way. I'm not sure if you have to setup the app first which would make this procedure pointless, but worth a shot.
Good idea. Call me stupid, how do i do that?

Lookout sign in, and press INSTALL. Better hope it has an active WIFI signal else it won't install until it does.
Give this a try. It works fine with my phone, and It's perfect for your case:

You know, thats a very good idea, but i think you need to setup lookout on your prime the first time you install to set up tracking, last time i checked that is, I think that goes for all apps,
I think a developer would make killing if they managed to create an app that can do what you suggested
Edit: Never mind, thanks victorvasconcelos ^^^
Hope someone figures something out for you OP, because thats a damn shame, good luck
Some advice as an aircraft mechanic.
You're not getting it back.
Android Lost is another great app for this type of situation. You can push it to your Prime via tha Play store website and then use the Android Lost web interface to hide the app from your Lapp draweraking it harder to notice and uninstall.
Also from the Android Lost web interface you can force the device to take photos using either camera which will then be emailed to an address of your choice. It can also track the device via GPS and you can lock and password protect the device remotely. Of course all of this requires an active data connection, but it is pretty useful.

None of those will work if the person who nabbed it has wiped it or changed the google account on it.
I hope you get it back, but as one that left a palm pilot in a seat from a 13hr flight from Japan, I do not see good luck in your future for this.
Lookout won't work even if you install it through PC. You would still have to once downloaded run it and sign up/activate it all. There's no other way since you didn't prepare your tablet for the worse case scenario. Consider it gone

Lookout has an app called Plan B. Install it from the Play Store from your PC, and it will auto activate when it finally downloads. It will attempt to locate itself and send you the coordinates to your GMail account. Of course Wifi has to be active, and connected to a network, and the precision of the location is dependant on how good your GPS is, or how many WiFi networks it can see.
As for the Asus Device Locator, boot unlocker does not disable this, only a non-Asus Rom will. I am running a rooted .21 stock ROM on my unlocked Prime, and I can locate my device on the Asus site. If you have stock ROM and the device locater will not connect, its possible the WiFi is off and/or the Prime has no data connection to any Wifi network. The nice thing about the locator is that if it is found, you can activate the "ringer", which on the prime just makes it emit a loud sound. Handy if you are in the area of the device. I have not tested remote wipe nor lock device.
maybe a stupid question but.....
I don't think you mentioned this and this may be a stupid question but Have you gone to the airport or airline to see if someone turned it in to lost and found?

Possible, but lets assume that their an android noob for now, what i'd be concerned about is whether they have a charger or not, as you'll probably have to wait until they get round to charging it before you can do something, OP should take that into account if hes not getting a reply
Question, do you have a credit card saved on your playtore or anything, if so did you set up keylock?

Plan B was already linked on 1st page, as for Plan B I have personally tried it after READING it on the 1st page. My Prime is in a office GPS is on connected to our wifi and multiple wifi's around. Plan B installed but no e-mails after 10min so far. I think it relies too much on GPS for location, as it seems to be designed more for phones with cell coverage.
"After you install it, Plan B will start locating your phone using cell towers and GPS. On some phones, Plan B can switch GPS on automatically. Your location will keep updating for 10 minutes."
So you can try Plan B but don;t count on it as I am sitting next to my prime with Plan B on it and I have no idea where it is?
Also as I stated before if the gmail account has been removed or changed, you are not getting any software pushed from the play store onto your tablet.

I disagree, always prepare for the worst.
Forget the account begin removed, Tablet taken stuck in workers locker, driven home then turned on, Chance of an open wifi not good.
Plan B does not seem to work well on prime from my experience so far.
If the person who nabbed it is stupid enough to take it hook it up to their own home wifi and start messing with it before wiping it, they deserve to get caught.
I hope for the best, but I do not see it working out that easy. It would have been easier if it were a phone or if the software was on there from the start.
Good luck and keep us posted.
I would stick with Asus Device Locator as long as you were running a stock ROM. A wipe can't change the serial number. If the unit is off, has Wifi off, or is in an area with no wifi, none of these other apps are going to work anyway.
The sad news is that without Wifi, the Prime could never report is location even if a locator app was on it running.
The good thing about the asus devicetracker is that even if they remove your Google account or factory reset the device you can still track it.

Step 2: Register your phone
Simply start the program. Thats it! If you don't have your phone nearby, you may remotely start the app by sending an SMS with the text "androidlost register" to your mobile.
From their website, looks like you need to have had it pre-installed, or a sms capable setup.
Shame, i really want this guy to find his prime, dramas killing me ..........huh, oh, i mean, sorry for your loss
Gd luck
OP: You might to change the subject to 'lost prime' instead of 'stolen prime'.
Must feel terrible to realize you left your prime on the airplane. Almost as terrible as stealing a tablet only to realize it isn't an ipad.
I use these two chat apps on my phone. They are linked to your phone number. I tried installing them on my Prime but can't get past the registration parts about the phone number.
Is it possible to use these apps on the Prime using the same account you use with your phone? I would like to receive and send messages using both my phone and Prime. It is much faster typing with the Prime keyboard dock.
Thanks
Use titanium backup to make a backup of whatsapp on you phone, then restore it on the prime with data. You should be all set.. when there is a new version out, just do a restore on the prime of the app only..
I used a new number on my prime since the messages doesn't always gets delivered to the right device
Thanks for the response. Sounds impractical if Whatsapp confuses over which device to send incoming messages to though.
I also considered having two separate Whatsapp/Kakao accounts (one for phone and one for tablet), but it is a logistically poor idea for when one of my friends wants to start a conversation with me. They may accidentally choose to message my tablet when I only have my phone with me.
I really do not understand why Whatsapp hasn't released a non-phone based app. If someone could explain this to me, it would be appreciated. Because all I see right now is a company not developing for a booming market (think iPad and other Wifi only devices too).

Found this thread via a google search...looking for exactly what this app provides for my Nexus 7. Thanks!
Hello,
I'm considering the idea of getting a Gmate+(http://www.skyroam.com/) for my SGP5 but I have one remaining question. Ive searched all over the internet and couldnt find any answers so it must not be a big problem.
1. Will the gmate app notify me of sms/calls on my SGP or will i always have to go by the vibration on the gmate?
2. If the app wont notify me...is there a toggle switch or someway to disable the vibration on the gmate when i dont want it?
Because if the app will notify me then I'll just be getting the plain Gmate without vibration.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Nevermind...i found my answer soon after posting haha
Number 27 at http://www.skyroam.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=83&..
As an owner of the Gmate+, I'd be happy to answer any questions you had about it, as I've had mine for some time. The app is a bit rough around the edges, it doesn't have nearly the polish of the android apps for phone and testing, but they work. Texts and calls pop up notifications on the SGP, with calls acting like a standard phone call on a smartphone, taking over the lock screen, etc. it also causes the SGP to vibrate or make whatever noise it makes for a notification. The GMate also vibrates, but it is loud, and quite piercing, as the device is very small and light. this, however, can be turned off. There are a number of checkboxes which dictate when the Gmate will vibrate, such as a connection, incoming call, texts, etc. One other thing is that I've never been able to get the web browsing to work, and the more I look into it, the more it looks like a bug with samsung devices on Gingerbread, so having an ICS rom might fix that, the other thing you need to keep in mind is that the app says it's not compatible for a reason, it will disconnect every 5 minutes or so, when the device goes to sleep and shuts bluetooth off, but at app I found called Bluetooth KeepAlive fixed that, even though it was a couple bucks, I think it was worth it.
Sorry for the wall of text, but in summary I guess is that the Gmate works and is a good device, but it's a little rough in how it's used and there are a few hoops you have to jump through to get it to work.
Hi,
Thanks that helped a lot silentdoh!
So where are the options for vibration? Are they in the app i assume? Because i looked all through the settings and didnt find them.
And im on cm10.1 and i got the app from the play store so it was all compatible it said
So do u think the Plus is worth it for the vibration or not?

I believe the app shows the option when you have the Gmate+ connected, because why have the option when the other device doesn't support it? When I got it, there was no difference in price, it really depends if you can deal with an annoying vibration noise, most of the time I just turn it off, but it is nice to know when it's connected if you can't look at your SGP. I personally don't use mine anymore, but I still love it as a backup, one thing to note is that it is not compatible with 3G speeds, so you'll be using 2G the whole time, and that it uses a standard sim card, not a microsim. Also, the signal is not too great, I sometimes have issues with service unless I take the Gmate out with my phone as I answer or send a text, not sure if there's any way to fix that.
Thanks for all your information. It helped me a lot to decide what to do. As of now im gonna hold off and just see how everything works on my new dumbphone.
Would it at all be possible to port this feature(http://support-us.samsung.com/spsn/detail.jsp?ctg_id=209&sub_ctg_id=&live_id=8) to the galaxy player 5? For me it would be an OK alternative to the Gmate.
Would this be a simple ROM port or would it require more then that?
I would port the ROM myself if i knew it would work, but right now I use my Galaxy for work and and everyday personal stuff and cm10.1 doesnt backup in cwmSso im not going to try until i get more opinions and the feature would be really nice on cm10.1! Any thoughts?

First off, the new CM for the T-Mobile note 4 developed by Slayher is simply awesome. Lollipop, stable, good battery life, and wicked fast.
It does not run gear manager however so I found a decent workaround.
First, I used an S4 I have for a spare to run gear manager, and paired the watch to it. This phone has no Sim in it, so it's strictly to stay at my house on the Wi-Fi. I setup gmail, Viber, calendar, and a few other items I like to see on the watch.
I then was trying to figure out how to get SMS and call notifications from my note 4 when I remembered an excellent app: PushBullet.
For those who don't know, pushbullet accesses your notifications and pushes them across devices and chrome on your PC. Now, there is an experimental feature which syncs notifications across all devices! Once I set it all up, I added the notifications from pushbullet to gear manager and Voila- I can see SMS and incoming calls (although I cant answer). Not a bad compromise.
In essence, the only functionality that's missing is answering phone calls and replying to SMS.
Haa haa haa. . . bit like a car with the only functionality missing being the wheels and the engine!

seeing as i don't typically answer calls on my watch but do like to be notified of them, it's basically enough functionality that I don't miss TouchWiz too much.
pretty much the same with SMS... I don't typically answer from my watch but I like reading them. I didn't specify that I can forward calls to the watch if I want to leave the phone behind- it does have a SIM in it and it's own number.
Your opinion may vary from mine on what the core functionality of the Gear S would be, and that's alright. CM12 is just starting to become a great daily driver for the Note 4 and unless Samsung makes a GREAT lollipop ROM, I'm sticking with it for a while.

yea the touchwiz lollipop ROMs like that one can run it no problem, but CM has something missing that's needed. HostManager FC's when pairing and nobody's gotten any further than that.
I see over in the International N4 forum that TW Lollipop leaked for the Chinese variant, so maybe it's getting closer.
That said, I'll still be torn between how amazingly well CM12 is running and reverting to TW. Getting gear manager back would be great though.

So you need push bullet on the s4 and the note 4. Notifications go from the note 4 to the s4 to the gear. Correct?

Yea. not ideal but if you wanna test run Cm12 it's the only way to use the gear s for now.
I switched back to kitkat on my note 4.

I didn't carry 2 phones. I just left the s4 at home and used the Gear S via remote connection

If you leave your phone at home you can just use your carrier's call forwarding to forward calls to your watch. I have AT&T and I can just dial **21*Watch's Number# and it will forward calls to my watch. I don't like the auto call forward because it doesn't work sometimes.
