Hello,
I'm considering the idea of getting a Gmate+(http://www.skyroam.com/) for my SGP5 but I have one remaining question. Ive searched all over the internet and couldnt find any answers so it must not be a big problem.
1. Will the gmate app notify me of sms/calls on my SGP or will i always have to go by the vibration on the gmate?
2. If the app wont notify me...is there a toggle switch or someway to disable the vibration on the gmate when i dont want it?
Because if the app will notify me then I'll just be getting the plain Gmate without vibration.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Nevermind...i found my answer soon after posting haha

As an owner of the Gmate+, I'd be happy to answer any questions you had about it, as I've had mine for some time. The app is a bit rough around the edges, it doesn't have nearly the polish of the android apps for phone and testing, but they work. Texts and calls pop up notifications on the SGP, with calls acting like a standard phone call on a smartphone, taking over the lock screen, etc. it also causes the SGP to vibrate or make whatever noise it makes for a notification. The GMate also vibrates, but it is loud, and quite piercing, as the device is very small and light. this, however, can be turned off. There are a number of checkboxes which dictate when the Gmate will vibrate, such as a connection, incoming call, texts, etc. One other thing is that I've never been able to get the web browsing to work, and the more I look into it, the more it looks like a bug with samsung devices on Gingerbread, so having an ICS rom might fix that, the other thing you need to keep in mind is that the app says it's not compatible for a reason, it will disconnect every 5 minutes or so, when the device goes to sleep and shuts bluetooth off, but at app I found called Bluetooth KeepAlive fixed that, even though it was a couple bucks, I think it was worth it.
Sorry for the wall of text, but in summary I guess is that the Gmate works and is a good device, but it's a little rough in how it's used and there are a few hoops you have to jump through to get it to work.
Hi,
Thanks that helped a lot silentdoh!
So where are the options for vibration? Are they in the app i assume? Because i looked all through the settings and didnt find them.
And im on cm10.1 and i got the app from the play store so it was all compatible it said
So do u think the Plus is worth it for the vibration or not?

I believe the app shows the option when you have the Gmate+ connected, because why have the option when the other device doesn't support it? When I got it, there was no difference in price, it really depends if you can deal with an annoying vibration noise, most of the time I just turn it off, but it is nice to know when it's connected if you can't look at your SGP. I personally don't use mine anymore, but I still love it as a backup, one thing to note is that it is not compatible with 3G speeds, so you'll be using 2G the whole time, and that it uses a standard sim card, not a microsim. Also, the signal is not too great, I sometimes have issues with service unless I take the Gmate out with my phone as I answer or send a text, not sure if there's any way to fix that.
Thanks for all your information. It helped me a lot to decide what to do. As of now im gonna hold off and just see how everything works on my new dumbphone.
Would it at all be possible to port this feature(http://support-us.samsung.com/spsn/detail.jsp?ctg_id=209&sub_ctg_id=&live_id=8) to the galaxy player 5? For me it would be an OK alternative to the Gmate.
Would this be a simple ROM port or would it require more then that?
I would port the ROM myself if i knew it would work, but right now I use my Galaxy for work and and everyday personal stuff and cm10.1 doesnt backup in cwmSso im not going to try until i get more opinions and the feature would be really nice on cm10.1! Any thoughts?

I was talking about pairing my Samsung Flight II dumphone with my SGP5.0 so that any calls i get on my phone wil come to my GP. This way i could answer calls with my player without having to take out my dumbphone.
If you have an apk for that...i would sure like to have it.
Does anyone know anything about this device? http://www.simore.ch/en/two_sim_cards_in_one_mobile/dual_sim_card_dualblue.php#11
It looks like a healthy alternative to the gmate cause it looks like its been more kept up to date then the Gmate. They have videos of it working on the S4 and the HTC One even

Yeah, all you have to do is put your "dumbphone" in your pocket and you make and receive calls from the player as long as your connected via bluetooth

Not quite. Sync SMS uploads incoming texts from your phone to DropBox and then your tablet downloads them and displays them. When sending messages the tablet uploads them to DropBox and your phone downloads them to send out.
With TexTab, there is no uploading over the internet to a remote location as everything is shared between the devices via bluetooth. This is much faster and uses far letter battery than Sync SMS.
I have tried out both applications and I would most definitely vouch for TexTab, especially because of the support/communication the developer provides and the features he is working on.
Hmm OK. But textab connects through blue tooth surely that will use more battery than sending and receiving a file from dropbox? Also is it quite delayed doing it like that? I'm currently trying textab light. Its a pain having to stay near the phone due to Bluetooth distance

Constant data transfer uses more battery than bluetooth I think. Most people have their phones on them anyway, so it works quite well. The developer is almost ready to start beta testing an update which adds wifi functionality so that may be more appropriate for your needs.

you would be mistaken. bluetooth is always on and using the battery. downloading 160 bytes from the internet is very quick.
@piam
You will have to make your own decision based on your own requirements.
SyncSMS suits me better because I can leave my phone anyplace I want to and still be able to text from my tab.
@dolphinking:
feature request: how about syncing missed call notifications from phone to the tablet?
tablet talk is a great app, works via wifi or bluetooth
I am an avid user of SyncSMS and HIGHLY Recommend. It is one of the few paid apps I do have and it works excellent. Exciting new features coming. This app is worth the money and will only get better with time.
SyncSMS allows sync no matter how close or far apart the 2 devices are, TexTab does not work unless within bluetooth range. Personally, if I am bluetooth close enough to my phone, I will just use it to text.
I use my tab, with SyncSMS when away from phone, or while phone on charge in another location.
+1 SYNCSMS!

Are there any apps you guys recommend to make this piece of crap os run like an ACTUAL phone?
Atrix 4g running on t-mobile 2.3.6 with cwm recovery.
I use widget locker, GO launcher, and dg alert (for sms notifications).
I thought smartphones were supposed to be, you know, SMART! Why the heck do I need an app to make the phone do something it's supposed to do?
ON my old samsung $15 slide up phone, I would see in large text a message I missed or missed calls.
On this $180 crap, I only get a very very small icon in the top. WTH?
so any apps to make this phone work like an actual phone and make things EASIER??!
-_- Try a custom rom.

Does flashing ROMs wipe all my data on the phone, and will I be able to use the phone with T-mobile afterwards? (This will be my first rom flash)
Any good roms out there that make the phone act like a real phone, AND still can use wifi, gps, and camera?
I found this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836674
I know you have it, Lexord, can the still use GPS, bluetooth, and multitouch?
MROM is a good choice. Yes, you lose all data (there are ways to try and save data, but best not go there since you're clearly a n00b).
Why would GPS, bluetooth or multitouch not work?

Sounds good. I will try that than.
Why you ask, like you said, I am clearly a n00b.
Also again when I try to calibrate the phone I have to connect the charger when the phone dies from 0%, the phone boots automatically into CWM recovery and won't show the charge screen, and ruins the whole thing.

Hi to all....
I'm running Nightmare 1.6 and all is working perfect... The only problem I have is with the app Magic Jack.... I get this message: "The installation associated with your device is invalid". I can't setup my account or do anything... It use to work perfect on Nrgz... I tried to install it with Titanium Backup without any luck... This app is very important to me... Please, let me know if there's a fix for this or if you need more info to helps me!
Thanks in advance!
if your app has problems with your current rom settings.. then it could be that it doesn't work on your current rom... you have to keep in mind when the companies that make these apps don't make them for custom roms... so maybe some settings might be off in the build.prop or something else could be missing.. but i would suggest just trying another rom, or going back to stock.. or the rom that you had it previously working on
Oh well... Not the answer I was looking for but... I guess I'll live with it!!

hi, i know i can back up and manually upload to another phone but what im looking for is keeping texts constantly in sync. the idea being that i want to use one phone most of the time but for some occasions id like to swap the sim cards over into the other device.
i am aware that supposedly this functionality is baked into google voice but since im not american it doesnt work and hence not an option.
so is there something that would do this?

First off, the new CM for the T-Mobile note 4 developed by Slayher is simply awesome. Lollipop, stable, good battery life, and wicked fast.
It does not run gear manager however so I found a decent workaround.
First, I used an S4 I have for a spare to run gear manager, and paired the watch to it. This phone has no Sim in it, so it's strictly to stay at my house on the Wi-Fi. I setup gmail, Viber, calendar, and a few other items I like to see on the watch.
I then was trying to figure out how to get SMS and call notifications from my note 4 when I remembered an excellent app: PushBullet.
For those who don't know, pushbullet accesses your notifications and pushes them across devices and chrome on your PC. Now, there is an experimental feature which syncs notifications across all devices! Once I set it all up, I added the notifications from pushbullet to gear manager and Voila- I can see SMS and incoming calls (although I cant answer). Not a bad compromise.
In essence, the only functionality that's missing is answering phone calls and replying to SMS.

seeing as i don't typically answer calls on my watch but do like to be notified of them, it's basically enough functionality that I don't miss TouchWiz too much.
pretty much the same with SMS... I don't typically answer from my watch but I like reading them. I didn't specify that I can forward calls to the watch if I want to leave the phone behind- it does have a SIM in it and it's own number.
Your opinion may vary from mine on what the core functionality of the Gear S would be, and that's alright. CM12 is just starting to become a great daily driver for the Note 4 and unless Samsung makes a GREAT lollipop ROM, I'm sticking with it for a while.

yea the touchwiz lollipop ROMs like that one can run it no problem, but CM has something missing that's needed. HostManager FC's when pairing and nobody's gotten any further than that.
I see over in the International N4 forum that TW Lollipop leaked for the Chinese variant, so maybe it's getting closer.
That said, I'll still be torn between how amazingly well CM12 is running and reverting to TW. Getting gear manager back would be great though.

If you leave your phone at home you can just use your carrier's call forwarding to forward calls to your watch. I have AT&T and I can just dial **21*Watch's Number# and it will forward calls to my watch. I don't like the auto call forward because it doesn't work sometimes.
