I just got an amaze for a great price and the charger port is broken. Is there a way to root without hooking it up to a pc?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
Nope. Need PC to unlock bootloader.
Then u can use an app like flashimageGUI to flash the custom recovery from your phone and then flash superuser from recovery
Sent from my HTC One S using Tapatalk 2
Doesn't that app, FlashImageGUI, need Superuser for it to work?

Broken Charging Port Can't Root?
Yeah I think I have the same problem. I have an Amaze with a broken charging port, I had the charging port repaired and now the phone will take charge but will not transfer data through PC . Don't know what to do to get it rooted. Any ideas?

I cut a ribbon cable trying to replace the screen in my girlfriends Dinc. Now the repairs cost more than I want to spend so i'm going to sell it as broken on Ebay.
Question is, is there a way to wipe everything/hard reset it without the display working? When I power it on it does that short vibrate so I know it's still working. Just can't see anything.

If you have rooted and adb configured, you can try: adb shell wipe data.
Never had it rooted
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
You could try flashing the stock rom (using RUU).

It doesn't have to be.
I have brick the phone, I can not update by the RDS lite because it has low battery is not recharged by the brick, I can only access the stock recovery is possible to install an update.zip from this recovery? cwm or recovery?
my problem that I gave start formatting system, an error by cwm recovery.
If, for whatever reason, you have a samsung micro usb charger lying around..
You might be able to charge with that, it doesn't trigger USB mode on my phone.
Old phone would always boot, even with a broken battery with that charger.

It bypasses the battery and powers the phone. I believe it's what they use in the factories. Good for a bricked phone without a charge.

No, nothing. No charge light, pc won't recognize device in fastboot
Sent from my shooter using Tapatalk 2
If nothing is happening, no lights, nothing on the pc, i would say your s-off attempted failed. Have you tried taking the battery out and letting it sit for a few then booting it back up? i dont think thats going to help. IMO i would say its dead unless someone else knows of anything.
I know in the computer world if something like that happens and the USB ports are fine on the PC its the devices thats dead..im assuming the same would go for the phones

There should be instructions on io website about how to recover from a failed S-Off.

The phone still gets to boatloader and when I try to boot it regularly it goes to the jbear arrow screen
Sent from my shooter using Tapatalk 2
imo if its not doing a thing, then i would say the usb fried during your s-off attempt. Im not sure if the s-off could cause an issue like that, im not s-off and dont plan on it just for that reason. shorting the phone out doesnt sound to pleasing to me

I've seen this before browsing the forums. I got S-Off first time so didn't commit it to memory. Definitely visit the UI site and check. The answer may be to run the process again but verify that.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
See there you go lol, someone with a lil more experience with the s-off stuff then me after doing a little searching it does appear that you can recover from that s-off failure...now it seems that the pc needs to be able to see the phone in order to do so, so it might still be a paperweight, but i guess ill let others chime in and see what they say

I also just read a few threads that ppl did fry their usb ports when getting s-off, and also as bad killing the phone..exactly why i dont want to s-off, theres not much i cant do being s-on besides radios and kernals, and even then their work arounds for that
So I'm really screwed?

If you can get to bootloader you're rarely screwed. You can always run a RUU. If your port is fried, S-Off may no longer be an option but you can charge in other ways.

I can't ruu. My hboot is HTC unlocked and won't accept zips
Sent from my shooter using Tapatalk 2
Like LOOB said, you might not be able to charge via the usb port, but there are app that you can use to get wireless ADB and file transfers and stuff. Also as for charging get an external battery charger. You can find them online fairly cheap. I had to get one for my thunderbolt because the usb port was shot

Can't do apps, phone won't go into os, just bootloader
Sent from my shooter using Tapatalk 2
Hello All,
Here it is, charges fine, but will not connect as a storage device or for adb, etc. What ive tried...
3 different cables, 1 of which is HTC
3 Different computers (2x Win8, 1x Win7) - 1 of each which had never had phone plugged in
Many different roms
USB Debug is On
Ive installed various drivers, uninstalled various software, cannot get it to behave.
Sometimes the USB icon is in my status bar when im not plugged in, sometimes when im plugged in the icon doesnt appear.
When it does selecting htc sync or disk drive seem to have no effect.
NOTHING in device manager, no unknown, no other, no android device...not a thing to show its connected other then the LED light on the phone.
Im beginning to wonder if its my phone. I was s-off via lazy panda. I have since used Viper's RUU but by taking the rom.zip and renaming it PJ75IMG.zip and loading that from bootloader. Seems to have flashed stock although i still show s-off but locked.
Any help would be great

I agree. This happened to me because of what I believe was a faulty charger. I think it shorted it out.
Try mounting usb in recovery.

I had, wont mount from twrp or from bootloader. Hit mount button and nothing happens.
If u install WiFi file transfer pro from playstore then u won't need to transfer files via cable. Does wireless adb work? Haven't tried it, but it would be the only thing u need your cable for. As long as it charges right.
Just an idea so u won't necessarily have to take your phone in to be replaced. Good luck

I appreciate it, but afaik to be able to root it ill need to be able to directly connect it. Plus it should just work. It used to but hasnt for a while. I thought maybe it was just my ROM but im beginning to think its a bigger issue. I have to check the best buy policy and see how they take care f it.

Do you need to remove twrp to take OTA?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
Yes you need to be on total stock to take the OTA. Once you take the update there is no going back however which means no custom recovery or custom ROMs

Can you remove twrp without a computer assisting? Or just using the phone
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda app-developers app
The most easy way to take the ota would be to Odin the stock image of the phone then accept the update
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
If youre going to take the ota you might as well just flash me7 through odin. Then you dont have to bother with removing recovery. Flash and go.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
doctory edsmindi
If you altered your phone in any way like removed bloat, then just removing twrp won't help. The ota will simply fail. I'd just flash back to stock with odin. I'm assuming that your on MDK and want to update to me7 via ota.
well main problem is i would love to use odin for update but when i plug into my usb it keep connecting and disconnecting the phone. i have the latest drivers i have no idea why its doing that. i have it set t MTP but does not show up.
How do you have it set to mtp, the phone has to be in download mode which there is no options to change. However if you have a problem with a usb port trying a different one will sometimes resolve it. If youre not using the stock cable that could be it as well.

yikes phone isnt that old at all sadly. I really hope that isnt the case. only thing that happens is it charges, connects and disconnects over and over again. so far have had nothing but problems with this PoS.
Yeah that would definitely suck. Maybe try cleaning it as well as the cable but im sure you tried that already.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
well i think my drivers are just screwed up or something now. i used my old ass ancient laptop and its downloading and going thru the update process right now. so now im just trying to find ways to uninstall Samsung kies and falling into a hole because it will not uninstall it, and shows up without an icon in the "uninstall or change a program" menu.
