Google wallet won't work unless you have a nexus, no clue when Google will finally allow others to use it. Good find and post.

Ok probably a really dumb question, but I'm not finding an answer.
You say to PUSH the app to system/app folder. What do you mean by this? I'm on a cutom ROM (FastAmaze) and am using ES File Explorer with Superuser access. I can't copy & paste the .apk into that folder.
Do I need to use a different directory app? I'm also not seeing how to change the rights.
Thanks for the remedial help. HA

I use easy installer from the market. It installs the apk for you

Ok you have two choices.
You must be rooted.
Please do a nanandroid in-case apps dont work.
Option One:
Save Jelly Bean Apps on your phone.
Download from your phone or from your computer to phone.
>>> Rootexplorer <<<
Install on android device.
Open rootexplorer.
Accept root permission.
At the top click MOUNT R/W until it turns to MOUNT R/O.
Find were you saved the Jelly Beans apps on your sdcard by clicking the sdcard folder.
Long press the app and click copy.
Go back to the Parent Folder.
Click the system folder.
Click the app folder.
Now paste the app you copied from your sdcard.
Find the app that you copied and long press it.
Click Permissions.
Make sure the first the column marked READ has OWNER, GROUP, & OTHERS checked.
Make sure the column marked WRITE has ONLY OWNER checked.
Uncheck everything else.
Press okay.
REBOOT.
Option Two:
If you don't already have it. Install Android Sdk on your computer.
Make sure your correct drivers are installed.
Make sure debugging is on your phone.
Open a command prompt.
Direct your path to the sdk folder.
Ex: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\tools"
Push the apps to system\apps.
Ex: adb push Calender.apk system\app

Dude's got a girl owning 'em on the tech turf, lol. Props to her, don't forget that if you're gonna use ADB to push the files, unless you have a modded boot.img, you'll need to reboot into recovery, mount system partition in the partition menu, then use the adb command: adb remount. And also please put the files you wanna push into your sdk's adb folder, because if you leave it in the folder you downloaded it to and not place it in the sdk folder, you'll be pushing nada to your phone.

No one is smarter than the other, each individual has their own line of interest, this happens to be mine and most dudes, most girls aren't even remotely interested in electronics for anything but show and tell, that's why it's pretty rare to see a girl so way ahead of most guys on a tech forum that goes in depth. So nope, I ain't late my dude, I'm just amused at how much more interest she has in it than they do, lol.

Perfect...Worked like a charm...The RootExplorer was the issue. I don't mess with the SDK tools unless I REALLY have to.
And for those giving me grief about being owned by a girl? I don't care where the info & knowledge comes from. She's rockin it, that's all that matters.
Thanks again kemimarie!

Where is Helvetica S .ttf?

Good morning.
I use Helvetica S font and want to use it in Jotre calendar (an excellent calendar by the way, give it a whirl if you haven't tried it).
I've dug deep with Root Explorer and can't find the .ttf anywhere, only the other bundled fonts (default and Rehotalko). I've got the apk, but obviously I can't "install" that into Jotre.
Am I missing something? Can it be done? I know Helvetica isn't a "free" font, but I thought that the .ttf must be there somewhere.
As always thanks for any assistance.
Maybe try nabbing it from here or grabbing it from your OS install.
or maybe try using apktools to rip open the apk and see if theres a tff in it
Thanks and good morning veyka, all well?
Way too early for adk and cmd, will try the tool in about 5 coffees time..
I'd seen those fonts, and many others, all the freebies are a bit meh, IMO.
I'll see how I go with my tool (fnurr), if it doesn't work I'll - grudgingly - open my wallet.

[Request] Galaxy Player dictionary app

I've read that the Korean-English dictionary app on the Galaxy Player is really great. Would anyone be able to dump the .apk file for that app?

Here it is. I bought my Galaxy Player 5.0 (YP-GB70) in Korea while I was working there. I can't guarantee that the dictionary app is cross compatible, but give it a try and let me know if it works (or doesn't), and we'll move forward from there.

Also, an aside; I do speak Korean fluently, so if I can help you there, let me know.
And, more importantly, to search a word in Korean in the app, you must use Samsung's input method "Samsung Keypad".
Cool, thanks! I tried a straight install of the .apk file and it failed. I'll have to play around with it some more.
As for the Korean language stuff, my wife is Korean-American, so any time I spend with her family is basically Korean immersion for me. My Korean is pretty much limited to the words dog, cat, elephant, and car. Not terribly useful.

I figured that might happen when you tried to install it. I'm thinking that you're going to have to be rooted in order to install it. There should be some info on rooting your device if you Google it (if you aren't already rooted).
If it so happens to be that you are rooted, then you could take the dictionary apk that I provided you and copy it to your SDcard directory in your device (via USB or FTP). Then, you would have to use a file explorer with root access (e.g. Root Explorer, ES File Explorer), and copy the dictionary apk from the SDcard directory to this directory in the root of your device:
system-->app
Then after you've done that, reboot and try installing it again. I can't guarantee that this procedure will work, but give it a shot. Otherwise, you'd have to get into more difficult procedures such as using APK Manager to ADB push it.
Still not luck. I pushed it to /system/app, but that didn't work. I also spent a little bit of time last night playing around with it, and tried some of the stuff mentioned here. I'll have to play around with it some more tonight.

[Discussion][4.0, 5.0 US+INTL]Enabling handsfree calling

First of all - sorry for posting it here, i don't mean to be in your face, it's just all discussions about this topic in other threads or posts went nowhere and i also think it didn't get enough attention from the developers. So, i just wanted to start a new thread dedicated to just this feature, since i believe this is one of the most useful features which is somehow got missed in these devices.
I'm talking about the ability to use GP5 to make calls though and answer calls from other devices through bluetooth. I think it's nuts that Samsung didn't implement this feature in these players, since most if not all top range mp3 and media players from this manufacturer in the last 5-6 years have had this feature (my pretty basic 4 year old samsung mp3 player can do this easily). Some people wonder why i care about this, but in my opinion it is a killer feature, which really opens up so many different possibilities to these devices. Tablets with 3g and 4g are reasonably cheap these days, so more and more people buy them. When you have one of them, you naturally think about a possibility of making calls through it. I'm one of such people, i have a 10" 3g tablet and i would like to be able to call through it using my GP5.
I participate in 5-6 different forums dedicated to these devices (mostly european sites) and i see requests and questions from people about this feature almost on daily basis. I think there are hundreds of people out there who would love to have it in their GPs. What i know is that the new GP 3.6 and 4.2 have it and the older ones 4.0 and 5.0 don't. So, i'm begging you, somebody, please make a ROM with this feature! I have no experience in programming for Android, but i think it should be very easy to take code or a library or whatever it is from one device and put it into another, since all these players have pretty much the same hardware (to my knowledge).
Thank you for your attention.
I you can link to a 3.6 or 4.2 rom that I can pull from (can be stock, custom or whatever), I can possibly integrate it into my next release, although I give no promises. Also, as this is development, and this is slightly off topic, I recommend that you change your post tags to [Discussion][4.0, 5.0 US+INTL]Enabling handsfree calling, so that people understand that this is a discussion, not some random person begging for a feature.
Thanks for your reply, i'll have a look for such rom.
Ok, i've changed the tags of this thread. Thanks.
Thanks! I also meant the tags in the thread name, not the actual thread tags. I never use them, so I forgot .
Right, that's what i thought at first, but i see no way to change the name of the thread, unfortunately.

oh, sweet, i'm all itching in anticipation! thanks mate!
this means the phone features also needs to be activated because it goes hand in hand im not a dev but im sure its more than installing an apk. i think this will also require some framework changes. also activating the sip calling feature will be very exciting as our SGP can sync contacts as well this can be done in galaxy note by just adb pushing some files to system dir and activating the hands free profile in htc flyer is as simple as editing the build.prop so im sure this is doable but we need to call in the attention of devs :good:
Bad news guys, the uncompiled image didn't help, and I was unable to open the .img that I pulled from a 3.6 rom. Could someone pull their entire /system directory (apply this terminal command: dd if=/dev/block/systemname of=/sdcard/factoryfs.rfs), and then pull it off their sdcard (internal) and upload it here (tar or zip it if you need to). I do not believe root is required for that, and I am able to access .rfs files to edit them. You can find the name of your system partition by punching in "mount" in the terminal and then finding /system in the output, and recording the partition name that follows (eg. my system partition on my 4.0 is /dev/block/stl9).
I was tinkering with my sgp amd found this if this might be of any help

Ok, I've just sent an email to Mars11_, who's recently offered his help with extracting files from his SGP 3.6 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28558588#post28558588
I asked him to come here and follow your instructions. He's our only hope right now.
Got responce from Mars11_ that's what he said: "Okay, so I've run the commands Hanthesolo had, but I didn't have read access to /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 . So I need root, and second, I can't post in the Android Dev yet, as I don't have 10 or more posts. "
Well, hat pretty much means that I can't pull anything together untilthe 3.6 gets root (I guess I could create a guide for that, but I don't have a 3.6, and I cannot exract anything from it's .img images). Sorry about that, but as soon as a /systm dump is uploaded, I will get on it. A last ditch attempt may be to use adb, but I think that you must have root to get su access from it as well. Perhaps you can boot into stock recovery and adb push the superuser binary and apk, that is, if the stock recovery supports adb, as I believe /system is mounted as rw in recovery. Perhaps a signed update.zip that only has superuser? I dunno, just some theories for 3.6 devs.
Mate, you have absolutely nothing to appologise for, you've done everything you could. I'm grateful for you desire to work on this. I guess we'll just have to be patient and wait for the 3.6 to be rooted Thank you.
Well, thanks for giving me a project to work on, because my sumer has just about fizzled out! I look forward to working on this while I wait for my Nexus 7 to arrive, and with it some more time-consuming hobbies .

[Q] 4.0 Talk apk - sort everyone by availability

EDIT: ANSWERED. See Reply #2.
I can't take this anymore. I've hated it since the day I upgraded to 4.0, but I can't take it anymore.
Google decided that nobody wants to view all buddies and sort by availability at the same time. Apparently, they've never met anyone with a huge buddy list.
How do I make the ICS Talk app sort ALL buddies by availability, not just my most frequently contacted ones? And if I can't, is the 4.1 or 4.2 version capable? If not, will replacing it with the GB Talk.apk do any harm?
Thanks, guys. Google royally screwed up on this one.

I don't know how to make it sort the buddy list the way you want, but you can try reinstalling the gingerbread version (Just make sure you make a nandroid backup first so you can easily fix things if anything goes wrong).

Ohh, thank you, God. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to rooting the Droid 4. I figured it out.
To make Talk.apk sort *everyone* by availability, not just the most popular contacts:
Open Settings -> Apps -> All -> Talk and hit "Force Stop"
Open a root terminal on your device.
cd /data/data/com.google.android.talk/shared_prefs/
edit BuddyListCombo.xml in your preferred root-capable text editor. I used the busybox "vi", but if others exist, feel free to use them.
change the value for "gtalk-view-mode" to 1
change the value for "gtalk-sort-mode" to 0
save file and exit
You should now be able to bring up Talk.apk and see all contacts sorted by availability.
WARNING: DO NOT bring up the "View Options" settings within the app after doing this. Because you can't sort this way from the GUI, anything you do will overwrite the file with one of the three options available in that GUI. You'll have to do this all over again.
Edit: Typo correction
Edit 2: make instructions more generic

Why the question about purpose? A file explorer is generally a pretty useful thing to have. Re-opening downloaded files is a good example.

For the amount of time windows phone has been available and still no file explorer...i wouldn't expect one anytime soon. If i recall correctly, its not even possible right now.

Though you had a valid point that honestly made me laugh, I find that a file explorer would help in some ways: Renaming files, changing locations, finding email/messaging attachments easier. Renaming files has been a huge issue for me, but I can just do that from my computer at home.
Some people think they should have those features built right into the phone, so you have to understand that they want a file manager.

Hopefully you are just toying with him , with your response. The intent of his response was to indicate that the Windows Phone system has integral plan and purpose in restricting where files, pictures, downloads, etc are stored. This is most likely to insure the integration with Skydrive and its Office apps, etc. This has been in play since the release of Windows Phone 7 2 years ago. Microsoft has not deviated from this. Anyone doing any research about Windows Phone would know this. The response just highlighted that a potential new WP user was asking a question.
A quick look around Windows Phone.com and/or several wiki type sites on the web will help fill in the blanks, and will help you understand what Microsoft will and won't allow access to. Hence, the lack of a file Manager.
If you own Windows 8, you can get a little access into the folder system by connecting your device and using the Windows Explorer to see what is accessible. But you will find access limited to Storage areas and a few other spots like Documents, music, Pictures, videos and Ringtones.
As a reminder, you as an OP should have done a quick search of the forum to bring up this already known situation. Your responder should have reminded you of that, and posted a non sarcastic response..again, as per forum guidelines. Isn't life hard enough without getting into pissing contests over a mobile device app?
Well I'm working with Windows since 1988... There was GEM before then long after got ipad1 android and now wp8. All previous had a file manager...
Now as an example I was downloading a FLAC file via bluetooth
The system just was happy to download the file on the phone...
Now as we know no flac player the file got on the file system somewhere
but I was unable to locate it for deleting it as is is 15 mb of useless data
Now what?
So looked at for a file explorer but nada...
Connecting the phone to the PC only showed the basic stuff
So where did that file ended up?
Surely wp8 is nice fresh what ever you want but common that stuff is sooooo locked up worth than apple.. Surely good for security as praised by some but personally I start to hate this paranoia and philosophy that what you bought is actuality not yours..
Please someone teach me where that file ended up maybe I missed something?

This may be of some help. It's not a file manager like on Windows, but you can manage downloads and there is a file manager section. I would post the link, but I'm new. The application is called "getthemall".
