[Q] Turning a GT-i9100M to a GT-i9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I know the title sounds like stupid, but someone offered me an S2 a few monthes ago, and he bought it from canada, The problem is its an i9100M, and I want to put some custom roms and kernels on it.
S2 isn't very popular in canada so After hours of searching on the net, I only found out that The canadian I9100M is identical to the international S2, AND by rooting it and installing a custom rom, it will work as an i9100, SO i tried to find the requirements to root it and then I found out that the only one avialable is KG2 while i have LD3 (i9100MUGLD3) for somereason,
So the question is, Is it safe to put the international S2 kernel while rooting since it's the same phone?
and What are the risks if I put the wrong kernel ? will the backup still work ?
Thank you for reading, Thank you more if you're answering :victory:
PS: The phone is unlocked
PS2: I'm not canadian
PS3: I'm a noob at rooting and installing roms&kernels

I9100M can use any I9100 firmware or kernel, no problem. They are functionally the same device. Just stay away from I9100G firmwares or kernels.

I have a I9100T. Can I use regular I9100 firmware?

Hi,
I have an I9100T. It's currently Vodafone branded, with Vodafone boot animations etc. It is unlocked. I'd like to move to a stock, unbranded firmware.
Can I use regular I9100 firmware?
Thanks
Just a follow up because my question hasn't been answered.
It seems that hardware wise the I9100 and I9100T are identical, the model is determined by the ROM being used.
I flashed a stock I9100 ROM and have had no issues.
I have the same question and would appreciate if anyone know or have tried to flash with regular i9100 firmware. I just don't want to brick the phone..any reply is appreciated. Thanks
Edit: I flashed regular i9100 to change language and it's OK..Confirmed!!!!

Galaxy S2 I9100P Root 4.0.3

Hi all,
Im trying to root my sisters S2. Ive read alot of guides and ive rooted several S3's no problem. The guides are all saying to flash CF Kernel with file name same as kernel (I9100PBVLPC) which I cannot see unless ive gone blind through all the reading lol.
Could I just flash the latest PhilZ kernel using Odin? the phone is stock 4.0.3, sim-locked.
Thanks in advance
Nobody help me with this?
Want to root sim locked i9100p

[Q] GT i9100 from Claro to ???

Hi,
I am not brand new and have usually been able to find what I need on my own. This time it's not so easy.
I bought a GT i9100 from EBAY. It had a broken lcd. I replaced it, turned it on and noticed it had CLARO version of ANDROID. So I flashed with Odin to an official GT i9100 ROM from SAMMOBILE that I have used on many GT i9100's. Then I connected to KEIS(KIES) and was notified of a firmware update which put me on 4.1.2 baseband I9100xxms2. BUT it is sim locked??? I thought these were International versions with no locking?? I know I could probably use GALAXSIMUNLOCK which I used once before but would rather try to complete the FLASH to International version if my understanding of that is correct.
Does anyone know of a ROM/KERNEL that would achieve this?
Thanks, Steve
Claro's firmware are all branded and it's devices are all network locked to any carrier but claro (obviously).
Hence you need to root it and unlock it, you can do this with any firmware, stock or custom.
And stay away from kies, use odin.

Galaxy SII I9100T

Hey, I couldn't find forum for my device, I wanted to know if there is any rom to my S2 i9100T?
I'm sick of the stock rom (running on android 2.3.5) and I wanted to upgrade, thanks alot!
The I9100T is exactly the same phone as the I9100 save for a slight difference in radio output - you can use any firmware for the I9100 on a I9100T. The only thing you need to watch out for is the modem; I very much recommend you stick to modems bundled with stock roms released by carriers which sold the I9100T (at least in the first instance; particularly if you're using the phone on one of those networks). As you can flash modems independently of roms, this is no big deal.
