Are my Titanium Backups in the right place? - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hey guys, I just noticed that my Titanium Backups are stored in sd storage as opposed to the ext. Sd storage? What did I do here?

Have you tried going to Preferences | Backup folder location | Press back button and look for:
/mnt/extSdCard
and look for your Titanium Backup directory?
edit- you have to "Reload application" in TB for the changes to kick in. I just confirmed this on my rooted GS3 with backups made using a GS2.

Mine are stored in /mount/sdcard instead of /mount/extsdcard, when I go to preferences to change it, it won't allow me to "write files to this location? The only thing on my external sd card storage is my camera folder with my pictures in it? But I forgot to put the sd card in my phone until a couple of days after I had it, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with it? Also, I'm only using an 8gb card, but it has 7.39 of 7.40gb available?

Not showing files from SD card

i just got atrix .I am coming from nexus one so i backed it up everything with titanium. Switch sd card to atrix and titanium hasnt found any back up files. checked with astro and titanium folder on sdcard is empty. i switched sdcard back to nexus and all files are there. i noticed even more files in different folders are not showing in atrix.
can anyone give me head up what's all about? ideas? thanks
in titanium backup you need to change the location of the backups to /mnt/sdcard-ext/titaniumbackup
by default it points to the onboard storage /mnt/sdcard/titaniumbackup or the symlink /sdcard/titaniumbackup
+1 on this. Almost updated after backing up to the internal SD.
You need to redirect towards the external sd card.

[Q] Titanium Backup folder

I installed the Titanium Backup Pro and it works fine. But the folder created for the backus is located in the main memory instead of SD memory where it should be. Anobody has the same issue? How to make it to locate the folder in SD?
by default it is located on /sdcard/titaniumbackup or /mnt/sdcard/titaniumbackup (thats the real path)
this is the internal SD and not 'main memory' it doesnt go away if you flash back to stock. if you want it to go to an EXTERNAL sd card you need to change the option in titanium backup to point to
/mnt/sdcard-ext/titaniumbackup
why do you think it 'should' be in a location that not everyone has?
The folder appears in "Internal phone storage" and not in "SD card". What do you mean external SD?
And how can I change the path?
To change the path, click menu> preferences> backup folder name and put /mnt/sdcard-ext/TitaniumBackup

internal phone storage is the 10gb of usable space for you. do you have an external SD card? as in, a microSD that you inserted in the microSD card slot? if you dont have a microSD, where do you think you are going to move those backups to?
just sit back and put a little logic into what you want

Of course I have a micro SD card (32 GB) inserted in my phone. That's why I'm asking this. To me it's more logic to think in that SD card, when TB says it will save the backups in the SD, than in an internal partition in the main memory, named SD, as it seems to be. But I want to have this clear.

Dont think you quite understand...
In most other android phones the sd card path is /mnt/sdcard/. However in the Atrix this same path is used as our internal memory while our (actual) sd card path is /mnt/sdcard-ext/
Titanium Backup caters to the majority by default but this is easily fixed if you just change the path as stated above.

Thanks. It worked fine.
Sorry to "Necro-Post", but how exactly do I change the path to my external card? I have Titanium Backup Pro, and cannot find a way to edit the path in the settings dialog...

Create your backup folder on your external SDCard 1st using root explorer, or some other file manipulation app.
Open TiBu > Menu > Preferences > Backup Folder Location > Use the back key on your Atrix to move up folders until you can select sdcard-ext > select sdcard-ext > select the backup folder you created earlier > press Use Current Folder > select OK > done.
Using the back key to move up a folder is what gets most people.

Huh. I must be living under a rock. Has this changed very recently? I know you use to have to manually enter the name of the folder... Thanks for the heads up!
I tried creating a folder manually and pointing TiBU to it.. It asked me if I wanted to move my backup files there and I said yes. It then said '0 of 512 moved successfully'. haha, big surprise since my backup folder is 2gb.. So I just moved the TitaniumBackup folder from sd to sdext, and pointed TiBU to it. Verified backups and all is well.

SD card help / question.

Ok, so i have my atrix. Now i dont really get this part.. when i use efile for instance or anything like it. I already had a mnt/sdcard with stuff on it before i even had a sd card. All i had was the internal memory the phone came with. Why is it under sd card?
So i have 2 folders
sdcard
and
sdcard-ext which is my new card i take it because there is nothing in it yet.
Question should i transfer everything to my actual sd card? like backup it all? any info on how to do this or if i should is a good idea. Should i keep my internal memory clean as possible? thanks.
the atrix treats the internal 16gb memory as an SD card hence the SD card name. Now to differentiate between the Internal and External the other is called SD-EXT. Basically what ever you place in the SD slot, be it 16gb 32gb etc, it will show as the SD ext. Where you palce your files is up to you. By default most Apps will use your SD folder instead of SD EXT (titanium backup for example)

Plus for titanium backup should i backup my stuff on my external card for that or what? im kinda confused. ANy help would be appreciated. thanks

Well you can use your computer to move files if you place your phone in mass storage mode, or if you are rooted you can use a program like root explorer. The only things you should need to transfer would be backups of programs or music. everything else is fine on the internal storage. The only things I put on my actual sdcard are my music and documents. I would not worry about transferring anything, internal storage is really just as safe as an sdcard unless you brick your phone.

Intermal Memory Mounted as /sdcard

I was confused for the first few days when I would tell an app to backup its settings on the sdcard and then later they couldn't be found. I just realized that HTC has the internal memory mounted as /sdcard and the MicroSD card mounted as /sdcard/ext_sd/
This is a great idea IMO and I always wished it was this way on my Incredible. I always hated how on my Droid and my Incredible that all my settings files were crapping up my sdcard instead of the internal memory (which I rarely ever used for storing stuff), it made it a pain to find things when you were placing the MicroSD card in other devices since you had to hunt through all the settings folders.
The more I use this phone the more I like it.

Direct link is sdcard2
This messed with me for a lil while. I was trying to restore backups of my launchers and other stuff.
Had to mount it on my comp and move needed files to the internal sd and left other junk on ex sd.
now im rocking 7gb internal and ~20gb external. wtf am I going to do with all this space?
I'm not a fan of it by any means. I think they should have made internal SD2 and let the actual SD card be sdcard. Titanium saves everything to the internal memory now because of its name, which is stupid. And I don't see anywhere to change the directory Ti saves to, just the folder name. So anytime I do a backup, I have to copy the folder from internal memory to the SD card. I'm not sure what else is performing the same actions, hopefully not everything else.
This also really complicated folks like me with Exchange accounts that require encryption of your card. Since the internal memory is now listed as a sd card it encrypts the internal drive too stopping others programs from writing to it

Only think I have been able to figure is everything is saved to the internal sd and you have to manually move it to the extra sd.
Imagine all the people that arent tech savy. They are going to fill up the internal and think they have no more room.

1st, make sure that whatever from Titanium that is on /sdcard is moved over to /sdcard2 then in Titanium:
Press Menu button, scroll down to Backup Folder Location and press that. Press "DETECT!" and then press "WHOLE DEVICE" It should locate the spot on /sdcard2. After choosing that, press "Use the current folder" and you should no longer have to manually move stuff from internal to external.
What I have yet to try on this phone is to move my apps and pictures to the internal "sdcard" then use a program like "MyBackup Pro" to run scheduled App, Photo, and Data backups to the External card (I don't believe Titanium will backup your photos which is why I say use that). That would mean that not only would my apps, pics and data be stored in its own partition internally, but I would have a true redundant backup location in case my phone craps the bed.
I'm running 3.7.5 and don't see any option for Detect, all I can do is change the name.

You can change the Titanium backup directory (you'll have to do it during temporary root). I did and pointed it back to where my backup files were on the SD card that had been in my Incredible. It's possible it's only available with the paid Titanium version (but that is an app I didn't mind paying for).

[Q] Sd Card and Internal SD Card

I just picked up a sd card today for my s4. The question I had was can I just copy all the folders and files that apps have created on the internal SD card over to the external sd card without any issues from the apps that created them? ie twrp, titanium backup etc.

Titanium backup has an option in preferences to change the folder it reads. Twrp should have a restore from ext sd option, I cant say for sure though because im a cwm user. Some data will have to stay on the internal sd card for it to be read properly or you have to use an app like folder mount to move the data.
If I helped you hit that thanks button please. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
