[Q] Where are all the gb roms? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. Just wondering, what happened to all those gb roms posted back in the old days, those that were cm7 based.
In need of a gingerbread rom to use a few apls and only found around 4-5 roms... Some were good, others terrible.
Anyone knows any links? Where have they gone to?

Or simply use search button

Erm.. I meant the discontinued threads. Search button doesn't show much

Use Google search with XDA appended to your search terms. Or go to the two development sections & scroll through.

Yup using it at the moment. Only issue is that the kernels that were available for cm7 are now somehow either locked or their links are down.
Hydroxygen Download takes 3+ hrs due to server issues and is in flash able for god knows why. Siyah beta kernels are also gone now
Sigh

Next time take your time searching as all the links provided are in XDA meaning they are there. Locked

6.2? you mean the froyo version? If so, I don't think so, if you mean 7.2 the GB version then yes it is, it's available from the same place as CM9, http://get.cm/?device=galaxys2 just scroll down the list till you find a CM7 nightly, they run them about once a week so it's a ways down. Flash that and you're on CM 7.2 with whatever changes have been added to the nightly since then. If you want the CM 7.2 RC without the nightly additions it's also there http://get.cm/?device=galaxys2&type=RC
No.

CM6.2 is Froyo based... You want to go back to Froyo?
In any case, I don't think CM6 exists for the GS2. But CM7 does.
I know CM7 does im using it now, i really would like to see CM6.2 on the Galaxy S2

If you did I'm sure there would be small demand for it. GB and CM7 introduced a slew of new subtle features such as text editing and didn't go wrong in any areas where Froyo/CM6 excelled. Again, why would you want to go back, the SGS2 was designed with GB as its core and it's why it works well.

Small market shouldn't discourage you if you want to do it, that said there are no libraries or proprietary files for the SGS2 that are known to be compatible with froyo since it shipped with 2.3 GB, doesn't mean the GB versions wouldn't work or couldn't be made to work, but since they aren't open source it could be a monumental task to get things like the screen, mics, speakers, etc... working, given how difficult it is to get some of these things working properly on GB or ICS where the libraries and drivers are known to be compatible who knows if it's even possible, I'd be interested to see if you can manage it though.
Do you know who would be the best person to ask, to help me take a stock froyo rom, and do what is necessary to make CM6.2?? I understand Cyanogenmod is already taken, but make my own version of CM, kind of like a kang

Problem is, there IS no stock Froyo ROM for this device.
Taking it from the gt-i9000, editing and tweaking etc to make it work.

CM10 is still in nightly builds so you won't get some of your components working and still will have lots of bugs, Stock jb is currently better... But still i wont tell you to use it, try stable roms like revolt which is based on CM10.
Try rephrasing your question like "which rom is advised or suggested CM10 or stock JB? "

Symbian.
Getting user opinion ain't the same thing and avoids a lot of hassle and gives a better understanding for example if I and several people suggest a to friend to get a DROID instead of the closed Apple iOs i am doing him a lot of favor, saving him time and money.

Between the two CM10 is faster but graphics processing might be slightly less buggy in the stock, anyway the current stock jb is a leaked version and it won't be the same as an official stock version. I recommend you use CM9 stable if looking for a great gaming experience. Or if you are insistent on JB then look at other custom roms like the one I mentioned before.

Pure Google on Galaxy S2 4.1.2

Recently google released 4.1.2 for the S2 it installs like a charm.
But here is my problem with it, it comes with touch wiz skin.is there a way to install the stock Android that came without the touch wiz?
Without launchers or third party roms.

Custom ROM then...

Google did not release 4.1.2 for the S2, Samsung did.
If you're looking for a stock Android experience then it's a custom ROM in afraid.

I can understand your feeling friend but recommending Rom is a big no no here. No one would do it. Everyone has his own preferences. The Rom I like can't be someone else's favorite. Everyone here has tried many Rom before settling with any one Rom. That too only for few days. There are so many good Rom you would love to try YOURSELF. Read the changelogs. See the screenshots. Then decide what to try. Best of luck. Ask any further doubt you have.
One more thing. Don't say thanks. Press THANKS button on the left.

AW: Help with custom rom amd cm10
All cm10 based Roms do inherit their bugs.
The more extra features the rom has, the more extra bugs you will probably have.
Same goes for TW.
Complexity is the developers enemy!

I thought about it at first, but no. OP does not want camera bugs to be present, so it's clear all aosp roms are out of the question. Now it's on him to try out various TW-based roms, with which we will not help.

Quite frankly, this type of post above and "first" posts are the bane of my existence. They are about as useless as all the other spam out there, so I usually delete them on sight.
***************
@OP, I suggest you go into the Dev section and read a little. Pick out a few ROMs that look interesting to you. Then read the last 10 pages or so of each. Narrow it down to 1 or 2 that you like and read the OPs. Find one that you want to go with, then sit down, get a cold drink and start reading.
Make a Nandroid before you flash anything so that your next thread isn't "Help!! I bricked my phone".
