Anyone know how to get the mobile hotspots working on the HTC Evo V 4G ever since they started charging for the hotspot feature?

unlock your bootloader...then root your phone...next download wifi tether install it and then you have your hotspot back...
Unlock using htcdev? What if I want s-off also? What's the best program to use to root? Would I be able to use the HTC mobile hotspots or would I have to use wifi tether and would vm find out about it and charge me?

Your account does not include Mobile Hotspot/USB tethering service. Please contact Sprint to enroll in a plan for this service.
You can still use the Hotspot app to create a local network.

Some have gotten barnacle to work. Wireless tether app wont work. FYI: Those are 2 different apps. I could not get barnacle to work.
All carriers block Android's native tethering abilities for obvious reasons. Why let you use a ridiculous amount of data for free when they can charge you for it?
If you want to wireless tether, simply root using this method(i take no credit for this root method): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152101 and then install barnacle wifi tether from the market. It works 100% percent of the time

Install PDANet to get free usb tether.
I prefer Easytether, it automatically starts when you plug in the cable, as apposed to PDANet that requires pushing buttons.

I'll check it out. PDANet was pretty darn clean and they have a good track record.
Rooted my phone . & the wireless tether does not want to give off any wifi . anybody know whats going on?
What app are you using for wifi tether? Barnacles works. I tried the beta wifi tether at the google source page but it never sent any data to my tablet.
You do realize that even though you're rooted and S-Off doesn't mean you made any changes to the sprint hotspot app so that one won't work unless you pay $30 or install a cracked version once somebody posts it.

I have the EVO 3d. I have read through many places about rooting the phone. I am basically looking for a solution so that I can use the FREE wifi tether. I really don't want to do the HTC unlock method because I understand that it voids my warranty, and don't want to have any situation down the road. I know that there was a way on revolutionary.io... but that was for hboot up to 1.40.0000. Most of us have 1.50.000 like me.
Any suggestions?
HTC unlock method won't void anything differently than any other root process. Only way to get free hotspot is to root.

Thanks...
Thank you for your information. I will have to search through and find the easiest way to get wifi tether if I do the HTC unlock method.
Thanks again.

i just flashed your latest rom,Update 10/15 - RC2 Test4
everything works fine except for my hot spot
i erased data cache and delvick, then flashed rom, it booted up fine everything works but not the hotspot

my 4g works though, getting good speed, what did i do wrong.

The logical reasoning behind this would be, the availability to use WiFi tether will depend based on cell phone carrier.
The above user has the Egyptian flag, usually indicating they reside in that country and also has a signature for the GSM version of the EVO 3D (I don't think sold in the US).
Fairly confident the Sprint version of the EVO 3D will not offer "free" wifi tether/hot spot as they charge roughly $30 a month for this servce reasoning it will significantly increase data usage.
The only method to obtain WiFi tether w/o paying the Sprint monthly fee will be to use a 3rd party application which requires root access in order to properly establish the correct connections on the device.
In theory, I would imagine it is possible to use WiFi tether w/o root access but it would require somebody to reverse engineer the Sprint hotspot application and essentially disable the authentication mechanism. Not sure if this has been done or not.
Hope that helps!
Good Point...
Thanks. I didn't even read enough fully. You are more than likely correct.
U can hack the sprint hotspor and use it for free. Most roms have it hack and a 3rd party tethering app installed.

I have a grandfathered unlimited data setup (part of my base
package not a 'data plan'). Is there a non-root way to do wi-fi
tethering short of the official hotspot option?
Open Garden worked really well with my DInc, but no idea if it would work with the Rezound and 4G. I will try it once I am rooted (requires root).

Non root? I dont think so... U can tether via usb without root, not wifi that im aware of

I'll try a few today and let you know how they work out.
I am rooted with the one click root, and it has wireless tether built in.
No, wifi tethering requires root. Try usb, or root it. Unlocking bootloader is pretty easy and safe being official and all. Root is also pretty easy.
Have seen some people say that open garden hangs when they try to stop the tethering, but so far it does seem to be the only app that allows tethering in infrastructure rather than ad hoc. And yes you do need to be rooted.

Is it possible to make HTC One MAX a wifi hotspot without rooting? When I had EVO, I used PDANET. Are there any equivalents?
This is default feature available. No need root for it. Look for it at settings/more/wireless network/mobile sharing

don't want to pay $20.00 a month

I know that feature, but for that I have to pay monthly charge and also it has a limit, I do not want either.
Even with root I am unable to get tethering apps to work with this phone. I've tried easy tether pro and Wi-Fi tether for root users.

don't have an answer for you if you don't have root but for those that do I use Wifi Tether for Root found here (https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/). Its not perfect I usually have to start and stop it a couple of times before my Mac will recognize it. As well you can use this (http://www.clockworkmod.com/) for usb tethering, I got it working on my linux box, but the PC app does not work on my Mac OS X Mavericks.
Foxfi, I tried it on the Verizon store demo and it worked fine lol. I havent bought it yet, still thinking about it but Foxfi woeked just fine on it.
