After 5 months of ownership, I regret having dropped so much... - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

...money on a tablet that Asus clearly didn't give a crap about. For $600, you can get a fast processor, thin and light tablet, bright screen AND:
- an ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE touchscreen digitizer (seriously, my kid's Toshiba Thrive 10" (which came out a year or so before) has a gorgeous digitizer, and the TF201 has a piece of junk bottom of the barrel. Touch-Screen Tune Up can't even help it. You cannot make a straight line for your life. you can't make a nice continuous curve at all, it's pathetically low resolution. At first I was frustrated because after I noticed things were crummy, I went to BestBuy to try it on the TF101, Thrive, and Xoom, and the TF101 still had issues, Xoom was ok, and the Thrive was the best. For a product that cost half as much as the TF201, it has an infinitely better digitizer)
- an exposed MicroSD card while in its slot, so it's nice and easy to accidentally bump it and pop it out.
- Nearly Zero accessory availability (they are always out of stock on chargers, cables, whatever)
- An all metal case that does indeed kill radio signals (who was the genius that came up with that one)
Ok, so the main issue is the terrible digitizer. Even when i'm scrolling up and down on a webpage, i see the screen jump every centimeter or so as my finger reaches a new digitizer point. It is a joke. The most important piece of hardware on a TOUCH device is the TOUCHSCREEN and it is easily the worst touchscreen on any touch device i've seen and it happens to be on the most expensive touch device i've ever seen. That's what really ticks me off. If I paid 100 bucks for it I wouldn't care so much since I would expect cheap parts, but for $600 I do not expect cheap parts.
And within a couple months of it's release they already announced the replacement 700 tablet, with the main changes being a higher res screen and a plastic port for radios to communicate. Nice going Asus. Your other products might be solid. You blew it on the TF201. I'd like to see how the 200$ Nexus 7 is with respect to the digitizer. for 1/3 of the price of the TF201, did asus use a crappy digitizer with it too??
My kid's first gen tablet has a top of the line digitizer and the one that cost over half a grand has one that looks like it came off a palm pilot.
/end rant/
ugh... i hate getting ripped of, and i hate incompetence.
Yea there are positive things about the tablet, there is a whole thread about that. But this really upsets me. When you buy flagship and literally state-of-the-art stuff, that's what you expect. Maybe I shouldn't have bought my son's $250 dollar tablet, then i wouldn't have known how badly Asus ripped of their customers on their $600 tablet.

i feel your pain bro. ASUS' "persistent perfection" motto kinda fail big time. maybe they were planning on using sub standard parts (e.g digitizer) and persistently trying to perfect it. Lost faith in ASUS, the tablet has no 2nd hand value, nobody wants a product filled with bugs, I can't even discard this device without feeling like asus conned my $600. is it even possible to ask for a refund?

Yea, I don't know. Just frustrating. The digitizer should be perfect. And on the cheap-a Thrive, it IS perfect. just not on the top of the line Transformer Prime.
Isn't there an Asus Rep on this forum? I'd like to ask him some things about it, maybe it can be replaced and fixed?? i don't know.

Please use one of the existing complaint threads. No need to make another one.

Modified Back Plate Poll

I know there had been one person who was thinking about offering custom back plates to people, but it ended up being too expensive.
I just got my Prime yesterday and my Prime cannot even lock onto a satellite even when it is outdoors so I understand the pain everyone feels from this problem. It bothers me that the solution to this problem is quite simple, and yet very risky because no one wants to take apart their brand new Prime.
I would like to develop an affordable method to fix the antenna problems. But before I decide to take apart my Prime I want to make sure there would be enough interest because some people don't mind the GPS problems and others really want it to work like me.
If there is enough interest I will probably keep my Transformer Prime and start working on a solution. If not, I will probably return my Prime.
If you are interested simply submit your response in the poll. Also, I want to gauge what sort of money you guys would be willing to spend to have your back plates modified.
No...................
What would be awesome is a back cover that allowed larger batteries but not sure if they make the same batteries but larger mah's.
Look at it this way, in a couple of months there will be a solution that delivers great GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth performance for $100 without voiding your warranty. It's called the TF700. You get an HD display included for that extra $100 also.

no guarantee or official tests done yet to say T-700 will have superior wireless performance. Remember the backplate is still all metal only with thin strip up top being plastic. so its still prone to interference from backplate. Any assumptions on wireless performance is clearly just speculation until hard facts come out. you should know this Barry..lol
Being realistic here:
If it was something I had to dremel myself, I wouldn't buy it. I would guess I'm like a decent portion of XDA here when I say I'm not exactly the most precise when it comes to DIY projects.
If it was something I had to send my prime in to do, I'd hesitate quite a bit. No offense or anything, but I'm not comfortable sending my electronics to someone I don't know and have never met. I'd wait a long while for reputation to build up. If it eventually did, I'd pay $20 + shipping, preferably with some kind of deposit.
If I were to send my back panel to someone and have them customize it, I'd be a little hesitant, but more willing than above. If it worked, and really fit perfectly it'd probably be the best of both worlds: my own shiny ASUS metal backing with a plastic strip along the top. I'd pay $35~50 for it.
If it was a full back panel that was plastic instead of aluminum - and fit perfectly with the case, which I would imagine is the hard part since lower tolerances = higher cost - I'd pay $25~40 for it.
Thinking about it, if it were to use the same metal backing for the outside, but simply cut a window out for the antennas (leaving frame in tact to preserve back cover seal), that'd be the ultimate solution.
I'm up for this as long the cover fits properly and looks like a tablet still. Maybe just drilling speaker holes near/around the antenna is enough to let the signal go out.
Shouldn't Asus be doing this themselves? If they are smart enough, they can offer people option to replace the back cover when they get sent back thru RMA. Better yet, they can make some money out of it by designing colored backplates that works and fits properly and sell them for $20-$40.
This way, people have a choice, go aluminum and get bad signal issues or go plastic to get better signals and choose the color to match your style.
Lol, talk about covering your [email protected] and turning a bug into a feature. Haha.
Going to be a Debbie downer..This is going to go no where. It will cost to much. No one - or very few - will want to attempt changing it. Voids warranty. Just not feasible. It will be a lot of hypothetical talk - like the last thread like this - then Peter out. Sorry.

So, in order to defend the Prime, you're willing to say Asus is totally incompetent and incapable of developing a tablet with GPS, Wi-Fi, and BT that don't require 100's of pages of forum debate? If they were so pleased with the Prime’s design, why wouldn’t they have just slapped an HD display on it and called it good? They’ve said that adding the plastic border was specifically to improve wireless performance. For Asus' sake, I hope they do get wireless right in the TF700.
I too would pass on this unless offered by ASUS. They extended the warranty 6 months longer for. All of their screw ups. With all the issues we are having out of the box, imagine if we come to find out that the lifetime of the tablets hardware last only 1 year? You could cry all about it and say you want yours fixed or replaced, but you wouldn't get it.
As with a lot of other things, they tend to break right after the warranty. Asus already had set 1 year for the warranty period. So if the above logic and phenomena takes place, then the fact that Asus extended your warranty for 6 months would all be for nothing.
Why would you want to sacrifice that? You can root and revert to stock. Technically you have voided your warranty, but what they don't know won't hurt. You can't revert to a stock backing... Not easily at least. And probably not without showing signs of tampering.

That's the solution that will make me happy, Asus has already designed the new backplate on the 700 plus the HD screen makes it worth waiting for. It's actually more in line with the tabs announced by the competition so the confidence level is high that Asus will minimize the faults. Past the holidays, they now have plenty of time to correct their mistakes.
I say go for it! Like the guy who fabricated the dock, I wouldn't do it or buy it. But you'll get props and be the first person, I know, to do it!

Of course, if you just copy the TF700T back cover your assuming the antennas havent been redesigned, which I believe they have done with the TF700T so the antennas lie directly behind the plastic strip.

If it was easy to do, well documented, and improved my battery life without damaging my tablet, I would be willing to spend maybe <= $30 on a backplate kit.
WiFi/GPS performance are more than powerful enough for my needs and I'm working in a pretty crappy area to get WiFi. But, I feel that the battery life might be better if I could tune down the TX power and have a more penetrable backplate.

I have never seen it proven that even removing the backplate increases gps results. Anyone have a link where it is proven other than a statement by ASUS? Like maybe a Prime with the back off that is navigating a vehicle without wifi on?

The fact that rather than adding a HD display to the Prime they've gone to the trouble and expense of redesigning the TF700 sort of confirms in action what Asus has said all along. If by repositioning the antennas and adding a plastic border the TF700 doesn't have wireless issues, that will be your proof. From the tear down, all the Prime's wireless components are of high quality so there would be no reason to change them in the TF700.

Anyone who is not sure where the Antennas are located IN THE PRIME, has either forgotten, or never saw probably the best write up on the subject. This explaination by AnandTech was quoted (and misquoted) widely, but few used the diagrams. Further evidence is in his (seperate) article with a full teardown of a Prime:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5285/asus-eee-pad-transformer-prime-gps-issue-explained
See attached diagram. I sure Hope that Asus Has NOT moved the antennas. Have you all looked at the diagrams of the diversity WiFi and (single)GPS antennas in the Prime? They are ALREADY under where the plastic strip appears in the TF700T. That was what pissed me off the most, and the fact that it was 3 weeks into the Primes release. Had to take a LITTLE time to conceive, create and fit a new cover, from concept to working
model... say a few weeks? Ittseemed so obvious that it was a direct
response to the GPS issues, and AnandTechs discussion of plastic
covers over antennas, ala Apple.
On the redesigned back panel thing. While this may be a good way for Asus to recover a lot of lost faith and good will, this is no simple thing, and it is not as the OP envisions it. As good as his intentions might be, that back cover is super difficult to remove/replace as the gasket is pretty much all that holds the internals into the metal section. It is part of the Tablets structure, and it is the MAIN part that provides strength, structure, and integrity to the entire package. The other part, the Corning Gorilla Glass that covers the LCD is the other, but contributes substantially less. If you were to create a plastic section, or worse still an all plastic or polycarbonate, the unit would likely be a creaker and a squeaker. Plus, I think just disassembling these breaks the integrity of the unit, and I am not convinced that they can reassemble them as well as the manufacturing line can when they are built. A lot of reports came out of screens moving or being partially detached. Check the threads and see, but I suspect these were units disassembled for Wifi fixes perhaps. All I know is, cosmetically, mine is perfect, and I would be very concerned if it went in for service. Kind of like giving your Aston Martin to the tire guys at Walmart. You know they can do the work, but worry about what respect the hardware will get (usually it's none)

If the 201 backplate is anything similar to the 101, then removing it will be an easy task. And if the backplate can be modified in a shop by cutting a strip off the top, smoothing the rough edges and mating it with a strip of plastic, I think the cost will be affordable. Here's a video of the 101 backplate disassembly using a thin plastic release tool and a phillips screwdriver:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG9gEYRALtU
However, as pointed out, the fix must first be tested and proven to work on all Primes or at least those with no issues other than weakened rf signals.

[Q] TF201 glass broken

Hi guys,
This happened to me
Bought a Transformer Prime, and got the glass broken. The LCD screen itself is OK, the tablet is working just fine, but the glass is cracked.
Spent 3 days searching, nothing. There are all kinds of parts for TF101, but TF201 -- not.
Went to service guys, they want 400 bucks for the replacement: they say they can replace the LCD screen AND the glass. Obviously this makes no sense since the brand new TF201 costs about $500 for 32 GB version (which I have).
Ideally, finding the glass with digitizer would solve the problem, but so far I can't find it.
Checked the asusparts.eu website, but not sure if these are the right ones (and, still, they are quite expensive since I don't need LCD screen itself, the screen itself is just fine)
If someone has and idea where to get it/search for it, it would be great.
Thanks
you bought it with broken glass? Why you just don't return it?
Send it back to ASUS, and see what they will charge you to replace the glass.

Yep, I've already asked Asus.
Asus said go to the authorized service center in your city. That authotized official service center said $400 for repair
Not sure if its any help to you but i'm just waiting a reply from Asus for the cost of replacement glass hopefully have it at some point today
same here, the glass is cracked on my ATP. and its only like 1 week old. SO FRUSTRATING!!!. but im trying to look for the replacement glass as well cuz the lcd itself is not broken but haven't found anything yet, i called asus to see what they would say but all they said was to RMA it. and they would have someone "check it out" and see if it will cover under my warranty. i didn't break it intentionally, i received the unit with a bend on above the power connector so it was difficult to plug in the connector. i didnt see it as a big issue, until i plug it in and the bend on the connector bent upwards and cracked my screen (gorilla glass my ***!!!). So knowing big companies like asus they arent going to cover my ATP and if they do offer to repair it, it will be some ridiculous price. and i been looking for a replacement glass but nothing . keep this thread going and post if you do find something, im afraid that since the ATP is still backordered everywhere that companies and independent companies arent going to have the replacement parts for awhile. hopefully this isnt the case and we can get something soon.
I'd say a SquareTrade warranty is an excellent investment for this tablet. $70 (after 30% coupon) for 2 years of drop protection is a bargain. I've already dropped my Prime once . Luckily, all I have to show for it is a scratched corner (it was in a case).
You can get a SquareTrade warranty within 90 days, so pretty much everyone is still eligible.

This ^^^
I always shirk silly insurance things, but SquareTrade is awesome. I personally don't use it, I'm confident in how I treat my possessions (accidents can always happen, but...), but it is amazing to see a relatively cheap service that covers most personal faults.
And yeah, I dunno what I'd do if my screen was already broken. We won't start seeing parts or units for parts for some time...
Same problem here.
They designed TF201 such way, that the glass is 1 mm ahead of frame (not like on ipad) so during the hit, glass takes all the damage on itself.
Asus must do something about that because everyone will drop their unit someday.
Cracked screen
This just happened to me too. Pulled my Prime out and opened it up to discover a hair line fracture all the way across the screen. Tablet has never been dropped and always stored in a padded case folded up against the keyboard/dock like a laptop. Contacting Asus to see what my options are. The crack is so fine I didn't even notice till I went to fold it back up. I was gonna post a video, but don't have 8 posts yet. But if you search youtube for "asus transformer prime cracked screen" it'll come up.
Clearly there is a serious issue with all these cracked screens with people using docks. I think ASUS should address this... I dont think I will get a dock anymore.

I think it is definitely an issue.
It's happening because there's not enough padding on the front end of the keyboard IMO, it only has that one little rubber thing.
My Prime is in a minisuit, which actually jumps to the other extreme: it won't quite close all the way. But I think this is the only reason I have not opened it and found a cracked screen, even though I toss it around and generally try not to baby it.
They need more support opposite the docking mechanism, it's causing the top-end of the Prime to squish down especially at the corners while the bottom-end has no more room to get closer to the keyboard. These broken screens are the result.
You could use a case like me or even just put some little rubber tabs on the corners of the keyboard to prevent this happening, but it's ridiculous considering it's constantly pictured as such a netbook replacement and using it like such could damage it.

Just a suggestion to everyone with a cracked screen--I know this isn't the most convenient option, but I think it might be the cheapest one you are going to find. From my experience, hot items like this with broken glass still sell for about 80% for their original value on ebay. I haven't checked to see what broken primes are going for right now, but it might be worth checking out. Sell for 400, but new for 500--about 100 to fix the screen.

Another broken screen
Just took my TF201 out of it's padded laptop bag this morning to find a crack across the corner of the screen. No dropping, no rough handling - it just appeared seemingly overnight. After weeks of frustration with random reboots and app crashes (which were only solved yesterday with the 9.4.2.15 update) I think I've had my fill of this unit.
Update - And, yes, the unit was docked when this occurred.
Final update: Contacted Asus about repairing the screen and was put in touch with a service provider in Sydney. Total cost (incl. parts, labour, and shipping): $400. When I responded that I might as well buy a new tablet the receptionist replied "That's right."
Wow I just bought a dock which I greatly debated on getting. I may have to return it after all. I don't wanna end up with a cracked screen.

[Q] Screen replacement

Has anyone replaced the screen/lcd on their tablet? Curious to know what your opinion on the difficulty/cost vs. just buying a new tablet. Seems whatever I can find (which isnt much) is about 90 bucks.
I look forward to the responses here. My sister got nook tablet from a friend that has a broken screen, if she can replace it that'll be great.

I hope someone has successfully swapped screens, i"d hate to go and buy a new tablet.
It should be possible as long as the screen/digitizer is available on the market somewhere. Also, someones opened one of these before, I believe it's connected via ribbon (no solder) if that's the case the only annoying thing about it might be if it's glued to the front face or not.
I've replaced screens on a lot of things previously. Just never had to look into a nook tablet before.
I've replaced the digitizer on a Kindle Fire (and just about every cell phone and iPad) which was very simple. The LCD and digitizer are one piece on the NT, which makes replacing a screen more expensive, but also a bit easier (with no risk of getting dust or debris in between). Having said that, I've never opened a Nook Tablet, but I believe it should be a very easy task if you've ever worked on a modern cell phone. Ifixit has tear down right here, not a full how-to video, but it looks very easy.
I checked out that website and it shouldn't be too hard to replace. Mybmain concern is the price range for the LCD/digitizer of around a hundred dollars. If someone can find a better deal, id love to hear about it.

I new tablet from Craigslist would be much cheaper and better Just my 2 cents!
I've taken the covers off the nook color and that was pretty simple. Look it up on YouTube, not as difficult as you would think. I think (depending on how much you got it for) it could be worth repairing.

Not having luck finding an LCD in stock.. also, some seem to be calling the screen "For Nook color tablet" Is that implying its for a nook color or just that its a color screen for a nook tablet? lol..
I've come across a few referenced that way so they can emphasis that the color is a Tablet. Avoid those,as they are meant foe the nook color and I read that they have a different screen than the nook tablet

i agree with @balrog558. the NT screen is a premium one with very good specs. the marketing blurbs say that it is and when you look at it closely, then you gotta agree with them. probably, the screen is the most expensive part.
I found a site called portatronics dot com (I can't post links yet) that has them. I am just not sure which screen I need personally. My son dropped my tablet onto a cement floor and the outer glass cracked but the screen under it still works perfectly. In fact the everything works perfectly, no lines in the screen and anywhere I touch it, it still works as if nothing is wrong, there are just cracks on the outside. I don't know if this is the "digitizer" or the other one and from this website they have both and I'm not sure which one to buy.
The Portatronic's website will repair yours for $100 (they will not sell just the part). If you want to do it yourself, then PowerBook Medic will sell you the part for $70. I have tried to seperate the LCD and digitizer without success. I feared that the prying needed to seperate the two would wreck the LCD.

I replaced the LCD and digitizer on a nook Color it was pretty easy I found the parts for as low as 45$ I had to dig a little. And there was a tutorial on YouTube on how to take it apart and change it. It wasnt too bad. Good Luck!

Charging port metal has finally snapped

I have noticed for a while now, the metal between the charging port and the screen on my prime occasionally bends in slightly for reasons unknown (perhaps a port connection with the dock? The way I hold the tracker itself? I dunno). I have thought nothing of it, and usually just push my thumb there to bend it back to its original location upon noticing it. This was undesirable, but acceptable up until a couple of weeks ago when I realized that the repeated stress on that little strip of metal finally took its toll, and it appeared to be snapped in the center. Again, I pushed it back to the original orientation, but the damage is now done. This makes me unhappy and must be a design flaw. I take the prime almost everywhere I go and use the heck out of it, but I absolutely baby this device. There's no reason why this should have happened.
I can still charge my prime with no issues. I usually keep my prime either in a cheap faux leather case, or in the case and connected to the dock. I've had my prime since May, and have been completely satisfied with this one exception.
Has anyone else had this same problem? We're you able to have Asus fix the issue, or replace the backing, etc? Is this the beginning of the end for my prime? Like I wrote, I am not having any related issues from this at this time. I do not wish to mail it in, but don't want this to get any worse and have problems with my screen because of the lack of any kind of rear support in that little location. Any shared experiences would be appreciated.

Same problem here, all the color has gone and has a wavy shape to it. Not snapped yet though.

Likewise, mine has been like this for a while. Can't fathom what might be the reason as the regular charging cord wouldn't cause damage like this.
The dock on the other hand, is a very likely culprit.

1. Docking has bent the aluminium frame above the tablet's port
Looks awful. Hopefully the circuit board's connection doesn't crack. It's only a matter of time I guess.
I noticed mine was bent a few weeks ago when I tried to charge it. I pushed it back with a small screwdriver and it looks OK. Now I am constantly looking at it Anyway, I don't hav the dock so this is not related to it (but the dock may cause it too). I put the little shipping thingy on for protection but it doesn't stay in very well. BTW- Had my Prime since Dec 27 of last year so it's taken almost a year for mine to bend. A friend has a TF700 ans his bent as well. Design flaw indeed.
Bent on mine as well.

Mine was bent upon first removal from the box. I never sent it back because they were very hard get last January. Since then I sent it in for RMA repair for the rear camera issue and Asus replaced the entire unit so problem solved!
same here. Started bending out about 6 months after purchase, then after a few more months of me pushing it back in it finally stapped in the middle. I tried to push it back in but it wouldn't go all the way back in so, and it killed me to do this because i absolutely baby my prime, i had to break the two pieces that were now hannging out becuase they were sharp as heck. I don't ever use my dock so that didn't have anything to do with it and it stays in a very sturdy case so this is obviously a deign flaw. I considered sending it back to get fixed, but after all the negative reviews i've been reading from dissatisfied rma customers i am just settling for telling everyone of my friends who ask me that I will never buy another asus product again and if they're smart they'll do the same. Not only did ASUS put out a flawed device, they refuse to fix anyones problems. I don't care about the wifi or gps problems, some devices will always be better in that respect, but when it comes to hardware defects, such as this problem with the casing breaking off, and about 8 months after i bought the prime the small thin plastic piece that separates the two rows of pins in the prime charging port snapped in half and fell out, so now when i plug it into charge i have to be incredibly careful to not bend the pins inside the prime, and forget about me using my $150 keboard dock that completely stopped working after about 10 months. The quality of these products is just unacceptable and matched only by the insulting refusal by ASUS to do anything to assist us who, like myself, invested $650 for their crap products. whew, okay i'm done.
ASUS must realize it's a design problem. My kids broke my charge port, so I sent it in for repair. I was told they would send me an estimate on the repair cost (since it was customer damage). After not hearing from them for a couple weeks, I called up wanting to know what the hell was going on, and found out that they repaired it free of charge and was sending it back. Nice!

mine did the same about a week ago. I plan on taking some sandpaper and gently sanding down the sharp edges.
This isn't really a big deal for me, I am just slightly worried for the glass, but looking inside reassures me it will be fine with the metal plate behind it.
I actually like that my charger goes in a little easier now, although I'll probably have to shell out 30 bucks to buy a replacement soon, the plastic broke off it a while ago.
I'm not even mad, have squaretrade warranty for another year or so - just waiting for an 'accident' to happen, hopefully around the time a new transformer comes. Not interested in infinity after hearing prime can get better FPS and battery life. Hopefully a tablet with a 1280x800 display and next gen hardware will be on the way soon.

Broken Out Of The Box

I received my PadFone via FedEx weds night and pulled the phone portion from the box and charged it swapped my sim over. I've been running it like that till yesterday. I took the tablet portion out and was playing with it in the dock and I noticed the crack.. its from the speaker to the bottom of the tablet catching the corner of the display. I am EXTREMELY careful with my devices and I cannot believe in under 3 hours of use I managed to break Gorilla glass by holding the tablet. Going to Call ATT tomorrow and see about a replacement tablet portion as the Phone it self is fine.
Between the System UI crashes when the phone is inserted or pulled from the tablet and it broken out of the box I am seriously doubting my purchase of another Asus product. Should have learned to stay away from Asus products when my Crosshair V Formula/Thunderbolt mobo came with loose SATA ports... sigh.

That's unfortunate. Are you sure it wasn't damaged in shipping? AT&T shipped my replacement sans padding- litertally just threw it in a box and shipped it (with TONS of open space)

Mine started with those blow up bags. but by the time I got it out of the shipping box more than half where deflated and the padfone box itself is dented in the same corner I have the break. I have a solid case its just getting them realize its their fault and not try to blame me for it.

I'd only say this- don't blame ASUS on the shipping conditions. AT&T is really doing their best to discourage people from being on their network. I'll be making my PadFone unlock request soon and bailing to TMO.

That couldn't POSSIBLY have contributed to the dead pixels you've been mentioning, could it? Of course not.

I normally would never blame the vendor for a shipping error. but my blaming was more about the System UI failing and fact the glass on the tablet is so thin. I made a living for a while fixing broken digitizers and lcd's and broken cell phones in general and the glass on the asus is to thin. Just holding hte tablet it feels completely bendable, my Acer A501 is rock solid in its feel. Maybe its because the glass is already broken on the Asus that feels as flimsy as it is, but still that speaks to a lack of support. The glass should never be structural on a tablet.

Ah. Yeah, can't argue there. I've got a new issue with mine where it won't autoreconnect to the network. Also my brightness sensor doesn't seem to work. I'll post later with logcats.

I have a list of complaints, prolly a quarter mile long.... BUT as this device is rare in its ability to be a phone when i need a phone and be a tablet when i need a tablet i will deal with the little things i dislike as long as it works. last day or so its gotten very picky about wifi networks its got horrible connection to $1200 a piece wireless access points that everything connects full power to. and the popup about the WiFi being weak is just.... ugh i know its weak i don't need a popup that depending on what i'm doing causes a SystemUI crash. Sigh so much disappointment in such a little space.
