Hi.
I'm a noob, & this is my 1st question in any forum whatsoever, so please be gentle.
this is a serious problem, for I am just minutes away from bricking my device.
HTC started rolling out the official ICS update OTA for the evo3D, and my device said there werew no updates available when I checked manually. so I did what everyone would do, try to install it manually. so after a bit of google, I found out that you can do so, by downloading the OTA files to sd card, and followed these instructions ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1732984 ) . after that, I had 3 files in the root directory;
(1)
S_OFF_4EXT_RECOVERY_OTA_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Eur ope_3.28.401.1-1.20.401.8_release_2627623qpt0ma8rnwgn0qq.zip (which is the OTA files, 274MB)
(2)
PG86IMG.zip (containing radio,adsp,boot,sbl3,sbl2,sbl1,rpm,tz, and rc data - all are .img, and a little text file.) size was 18MB
(3)
root-OTA-ICS.zip size was like 6MB
so I powered on the device while holding the volume down, and went into HBoot (which mine is version 1.49.xxx.bla blah) and the options were "fast recovery, reset, all that, but: it shows those options for like 2 seconds, then goes automatically to read PG86IMG.zip, listing the files above. it asked me if I wanted to start an update, and being the noob that I am, I obviously said yes. it updated all those files above, and asked me to restart. now I can't get past the HTC splash screen boot logo. the screen just goes black after that.
If I boot into recovery without an sd card in, it goes to it, with the red /!\ icon, and when I press volume up and the power key, (after re-inserting the SD card) it says
"E:Can't open /cache/recovery/comand"
"E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)" three times.
then there are blue options above,
"Reboot system noe, Apply update from SD card, wipe data/factory reset, cache,"
so I selected "Apply update from SD card"
I get
"E:failed to verify whole-file signature.
E:signature verifiction failed
Installation aborted"
Please help!
PS, I don't want to loose all my contacts, data, msgs.
and is there a way of mounting the SD card to the PC so that I can copy files to and from the MicroSD card? - or any application/command prompt which can do so?
Sorry for the long post. I just wanted to explain everything so you know where exactly I'm at.
Thank you so much!
What carrier are you on?

Gsm... And cdma!
well, my device is unlocked.
I think I have the Europe variant, (because it has a GSM simcard slot)
but I bought it from ebay, and it had a number tag on it, so I think
it was one of those early prototypes, because in the options (when it was still
working) i had an option to select CDMA only, or GSM & CDMA. (radio type)
had it since november last year... worked fine all the way...
Thanks!
All gsm phones actually give that option so simply enough, you have the gsm version. I would be fairly certain that with the update via pg86img all your data etc would have been lost anyway. Have you *tried* using a stock pg86img??
You could also try the htcdev unlock via fastboot via htcdev.com and than flash a recovery with fastboot and install a gb rom.

oh, and reading/writing to sd card?
oh noooooo! :crying:
are you sure all my data will be lost?
all my new contacts, etc? noooo!
anyways, where can I get that stock file?
or should I just follow the second link (in my post)?
and is there a way to mount the SD card to my PC
(so that I can download that file there) - or maybe
a command line/*.exe application which can sync
in to the SD card to read and write while the phone
is on (either in Hboot or recovery)
thanks so much for your help so far! :good:
OK, so a quick update,
I finally got hold of acces to my SD card on my PC using a card reader,
and I replaced the PG86IMG.zip with the one from the second link,
repeated the update (which got me into all this mess in the 1st place)
and now my phone boots normally. :victory:
I lost all my messages, but got my contacts from my google account,
and some I have saved earlier in my SD card. some of the apps also retained!
now, when I manually check for the OTA update, I get the notification,
download it, verifies it, and reboots itself to install.
when the progress bar is a third of the way, a red questionmark ? icon appears,
update stops, and reboots back to gingerbread. done it 3 times now!
any pointers as to what is causing this?
my HBoot version is 1.49.2012, and it says "S-OFF"
thanks again people!!!

i followed intructions on how to get 1.4.1 to with sd card to flash back to 1.4.0 but no luck...it just starts as normal, i have done the power on off 8 times a few times redownloaded zip file...no idea....i did call barns and noble and complained they said version 1.4.2 is coming out next week to allow side loading once again, thanks in advance with anyone that can help with this problem
thats interesting. if 1.4.2 comes out and allows sideloading then you should be able to root if you get 1.4.2, unless something changes again. Anxious to find out!
the technical support lady from bn said she has had 100s of calls about this issue, ps thanks for that video on rooting worked awesome, i procrastinated on blocking updates...ill make sure that i do this next time around, really like adw

Are you asking how to install iOS on your Nook Tablet or how to get the Android Market on an iOS device?
waiting for update on 1.4.1 for nt (zipfile that works to put back 1.4.0) but also want to get android on the ipad but there arent any forums that i have found about the ipad2jailbreak with os5.0.1

Chances of getting Android on an iPad2 are just about nil. Completely different (and closed) hardware architecture - I don't see how anyone could get Android on it.

I've heard of people getting android on jailbroken ios devices, but this would be the wrong place to look for help with that. Ios is closed, but with android being open it is not unlike trying to develop a rom for an android device (like a Nook Tablet, for example).
SD card method fails after 1.4.1
Using the acclaim_update.zip method, after the initial screen it looks like the NT tries to start the factory restore procedure then errors out with this message:
"Please restart your device and try again."
I fear I am borked. Has anyone else seen this version of fail?
I am also unable to get adam's sd method to work. My device is at 1.4.1. i performed a factory reset and the factory reset shows 1.4.1! The method I performed for factory reset was to hold the power and home button repeat and release on the 9th time. It did show the factory reset screen with the yellow progress bar. Reran setup and it still showed 1.4.1. it didn't load 1.4.1 it is already set as the factory software level jnow since I got the update. I cant return this device as I dont have a reciept. So here I sit. i have not seen any updates from Adam.
i am going to try a different Micro SD card
let me know if it works!
This method works I video taped a walk through and I will post it. I installed 1.4.1 and reverted back to 1.4.0 without a hitch. Video soon
Update... by soon i mean like within the next 10 hours... it is a 50 minute video that I have to upload in HD... 4 gigs
No luck with aclaim_update.zip on 16GB PNY sd card
Hi All:
I am using 16 GB class 10 pny micro sdhc card. I was able to root
the system and get some apps sideloaded with rev 1.4.0 of the
software.
Then I got burned by the 1.4.1 update and tried the following methods to get
back to 1.4.0:
1) shut off nook (at 1.4.1) and pull the sd card. Insert card into laptop
copied zip file to root of drive. Put card back in nook tablet powered
on. FAIL system booted normally.
2) Formatted sd card in nook. Shut off nook. loaded zip file as in 1.
Powered on system. FAIL system booted normally.
3) formatted sd card on computer, installed zip file (and tested it) on the
sd card. Put card in nook, powred on. FAIL booted normally.
Then I tried all three after unregistering the nook.
Then I tried all three after hard resetting the nook (factory firmware
reload to 1.4.1).
I also attached the nook to the computer directory and put the zip file
at the root of the internal (MyNook E) drive (similar to the method for
manually installing 1.4.1 given on the barnes and noble site). As of now
it has not loaded.
No joy at all. Can people who have had this work tell me what cards they are
using. Maybe there is something there (maybe I need just a micro sd card and
not a micro sdhc card??)
Thank for any info people can provide. I would post the question to the
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190 thread, but
I am not allowed to since I am a new user 8-(.

Yup that's the procedure I did (in 3) using a 4096 block size for the card.
I am re-downloading the file now in case the verify I did was lying somehow
and the file wasn't valid. Since it's fat32, what settings for permissions
(read only, archive ...) did you have on the file.

Too bad this "update" effecively killed two POC projects I was doing for work

the difference between my situation and yours is I unroot and install patch 1.4.1 on a stock device and then remove it with the sdcard recovery. I wonder if something doesnt work right if it patches over a root? I cant verify this...

Well, I did that in one of the 9 senarios (and many more attempts) I detailed:

The first time I tried steps 1,2 and 3it was on a still rooted nook. So I
had my side loaded apps and could play streaming radio and access the
emergency response guide and ssh to other hosts.
But I also tried step 3 on an unregistered nook before finally
breaking down and doing a complete factory reset (hold down
power and N ...) and using step 3 on it.
So I claim we at this point have the same environment.
I wonder if it could be something with the boot roms? Maybe some roms
look for the zip and some don't? I don't know how to verify that though.
The model number on my nook is BNTV250 and there is an IC number of
8961A-BNTV250A I think. Kind of difficult to read it.

Hey Guys!
Prologue
I have a complex problem with my beloved Vibrant. First of all, I got it for Christmas a year ago. It had no issues, with a stock 2.1 (and after a kies update 2.2) firmware, it was fun for a first droid. After digging myself into the world of droids, I decided to root my baby, and put CM on it. It was about a month ago; I saw that there is a stable cm10 for the Vibrant. There were minor problems (could not exit cm recovery and boot the phone normally) with doing it, but at the end, it worked flawlessly.
Problems
Unfortunately, a few days ago, my phone started to have problems like "Trebuchet stopped working" and similar error messages appeared on screen. Yesterday my Vibrant stopped working. The only thing it could do was when I turned on, it showed cm recovery. I chose to reboot the phone, but again, recovery mode came up.
- Now, I use a stock 2.2 (Eugene's) but with this, I cant really use my Vibrant, except for calls and sms.
- Odin cant see my phone.
- I cant revert it to normal stock firmware
- When trying to put a cm10 to it, reboots into recovery it says: cant mount dev/block/mmcblk0p1
What I did
First of all, a lot of research. Really, a lot, but I suppose not enough, because I cant repair my phone.
- I tried to revert to stock (using AIO Vibrant toolbox). I put Cmenard's kernel (with cm recovery, as described in the official cm wiki howto) onto the phone, since then Odin cant see my phone.
- I have Heimdall, adb shell installed on windows, so tried some lines to revert the Vibrant to normal, no success
- Rooted with superoneclick, so I have root, and su.
Summary
My suspicion is that the internal SD card is corrupted. Anyhow, I tried to use parted, but cannot format my internal SD card. I found solutions that may help, but unfortunately I have no exterior SD card, to make those steps.
Any help would be highly appreciated, as I am starting to lose my mind, and I do not really have a backup phone (will definitely buy in January).
In the top of that, today is my birthday.
Greetings to all,
Dan

Yes, download mode is ok, 2 volume buttons pressed, then plug in the usb cable. Before the new kernel was put on, I used the same method and eg was okay with Odin, thats how I put on Eugene's mod as well.
No, (unfortunately) I use windows 7. Or do you mean, I should use ubuntu?

First and foremost, happy belated birthday. It's a shame this had to happen on your birthday... Especially since I have some rather bad news. In your post--which, by the way, was very well written--you mentioned getting the error "cant mount dev/block/mmcblk0p1" while in recovery. This is a pretty bad sign. More than likely, one of two things happened. Either you obtained the Encryption Unsuccessful bug or your internal SD card outright crashed. Either way you're going to need to purchase an external SD card if you wish to continue using your phone. No way around it bud, sorry.
I had the EU bug hit my device a month or two ago, and had to purchase an external SD card as a result. After partitioning the new SD card and tweaking the phone to run off of it, my phone runs great... But switching back to stock/installing a new ROM can be a tricky process...
Good luck. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you very much for the answer and the kind words. I will get an SD card then, I will need it later on anyway I guess. I will try this method you linked, and going to post about what happened (but not in the near future, Christmas is coming).
Good news, your phone runs great now after those things, it means I have a little chance at least. :fingers-crossed:

Thanks! Yeah I was kind of disappointed, but maybe I can sort it out.
Okay, thanks again, and the best wishes to you as well!
Hey Guys.
Lately, I bought an sd card (class10, 16GB) and tried to breathe life into my Vibrant. Used this method (except the fact, that I used cm10):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665123
Actually this worked.
Before that, I figured out, that Odin couldn't see my device because of some driver errors Heimdall caused. (Or Heimdall/zadig installed some other drivers, to be more precise.)
So after reinstalling those drivers from Vibrant AIO Toolbox, I used that method.
But.
The final step, where you edit the vold.stab file, those two lines are swapped for me. Anyhow I tried to edit both ways (as written originally in the post, and tried to swap the lines) but unfortunately after editing, saving the file, and rebooting, the phone just stays at the animated cyanogenmod logo. Nothing happens. Really, I waited an hour or so, still nothing. Tried to reinstall everything, clear cache, dalvik, then phone reboots again normally to cm10, but as mentioned in the post, camera does not work.
Any thoughts would be helpful here.
EDIT:
That post says it should be this after editing:
#internal sdcard
dev_mount emmc /mnt/sdcard 1 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0
#external sdcard
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/emmc auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2
and my file contains this originally:
# internal sdcard
dev_mount emmc /storage/sdcard1 auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2
# external sdcard
dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard0 1 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0
So it would be great to edit these two lines correctly.
Bump. Any help would be appreciated.
This is the last and only problem with my phone, and it doesn't look like it's an unbeatable problem.

Hi guys.
Since then, I have flashed the CyanAOSP 2.9.0 ROM into my beloved vibrant, new kernel (gearkernel universal 1.1.2) and everything works fine, 4.4 is flawless in this device as well,
however
I am now facing some problems again, as the system cannot access the sdcard part, so with rootbrowser I can edit files and anything else, but camera, music player and gallery is not working.
I am thinking of a vold.fstab editing, but as 4.4 has this no more, I am stuck at this point. Any ideas of how and what to edit? Tried build.prop, no success so far. In CWM I can see that the sdcard is not mounted. Mounting it also did not help either.
Edit: I would think, editing the fstab.aries would be the key in this process, but I cannot really tell which part needs to be edited.

You can install the unreleased global update that was supposed to be officially released but never was. I am still running it on my rezound and it works perfectly. You do not have to be s-off to flash it either. Just grab the link at the bottom, download the zip. Rename it to PH98IMG.zip. Place it on the root of your sd card (the area of your sd card that is not inside any folders). Once the file is on your sd card PLEASE verify the md5 sum by comparing it to the md5 provided on my download link. If you dont know how to verify md5, just do a google search for something like MD5 windows, OSX, linux whichever OS you have on your computer. Once you have verified md5 pull the battery on your phone. Put the battery back in and boot into hboot. Once your phone boots into hboot use the volume buttons to scroll up and down till you have 'bootloader' highlighted. Once highlighted press the power button. This will cause your rezound to scan your sd card and it will find the file you put there. From there just simply follow the prompts to update. When finished you'll reboot into a fresh and clean updated GLOBAL version
Now, once you have set up your phone again, please connect your phone to your computer once again and mount the sd card. Remove the PH98IMG.zip.
Keep in mind, doing this procedure is not safe and will wipe app and personal data on your phone. Your internal and external sd cards will be safe though. I would still recommend backing everything up to your computer first though, as they say....just in case
Here is the file, have fun.

Yes that update works great, except in GSM mode your GPS will stop working after a while and you need to reboot. Somehow the standalone gps is software locked to the CDMA setting even if you have no SIM in the phone at all.

what carrier do you have it on? and is 3g or hspda or lte working? and i am going to install global leak... did you do anything else
I have it on Tmobile with the global leak. Everything works (text sending/receiving, and data), but you will only get 2G (Edge) until Tmobile updates its towers to LTE.
(Edge is fine for me, so I am not complaining).
The only annoyances are you will get a lockscreen message "SIM from unknown source" (which you can ignore, but it is annoying after a while) and your gps will work for a little bit while on GSM setting (if you switch to CDMA even with a tmobile sim inside it works, surprisingly. So that would be your only workaround for long trips).
You can probably root and remove the HTC lockscreen, or install GoLocker from the market to deal with the SIM message ... but there is no good solution for the GPS on GSM setting (you can try tweaking the gps.conf, but it will not get you too far)

We have tMobile coverage here everywhere. I am on a prepaid plan, sometimes I switch it to data (for $2 per day of use), and sometime I keep it data-less. They also have a plan for $30/mo unlimited data

I was pushed the KK update for TMo HTC one. The update was dowloaded, after that it verifies the contents of the firmware. It is failing saying "Download is corropted' and asks to dowload again. I downloaded it 3 times , everytime i am getting the same error. I soft reseted the phone and checked and downloaded again. No luck.
Later i killed the 'updater' app and cleared its app cache (some 20kb of data was there) via the setting-> apps-> All- > Updater. Now the in setting when i check for the update it dosen't show me the 4.4 update available
Is there any way by which i can update it via the PC ? I could not find any tool from HTC for it, sync manager dosen't do firmware update.
P.S : Phone is on 4.3 , never rooted, no custom roms. Just network unlocked via network code from T-MObile.

You have a couple options I can think of. Back up all your data using adb. Copy your internal storage and paste it onto your computer, thereby making a back up of all your internal data. Use the tmobile RUU to take your phone back to full stock using this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672425 . Download and update your phone. Using adb again, restore your apps and settings. Repaste from your comp, all your internal storage again.
Second option is to download from the General forum the OTA file. Paste it into the update folder on your phone. Then reboot your phone and it should see the update and allow you to update hopefully. However, you would need someone to tell you which folder to put it into. I actually copied it from my phone but I forgot which folder it came from.
Any idea you could remember it ?

Hello to all of you,
I am very new here, i have a question
I have a Alcatel pixi 4 -5 3g. And i just received the message that the update 6.0-01005 is available for download and install.
So i downloaded it and tried to install it, but i get the message after it restarts
""Supported API: 3
Opening update packageā¦
The update.zip is corrupted
Installation aborted.
OTA failed! Please power off the device
to keep it in this state and file a bug
report!""
Can anybody helpt me with this?
remove sdcard is stated in the help file, reboot and wipe cache**, reboot, download again and update, it will take about 50 minutes.
** boot with volume + pushed, for boot menu.
device must be original and not rooted.

Same phone. I've tried this, but it doesn't work. Without the SD card in the device says it doesn't have enough memory to download the update, even though I have over 2GB space left. When I put the card back in and download the file it gives me the same error as bako1980.
It's driving me crazy - any other things I could try?
CD!
Not sure if "bump" posts are allowed here but can anyone help? My phone is always asking for the update and I just can't get it to work.
I have the same problem. Anyone succeed on this?
Hello,
I have the same problem. Anyone succeed on this?
Thank you and best regards.
You have to remove SD card and go to storage and click SD card forget! otherwhise it will say you don't have enough storage as the device is looking for your SD card. It has to convert to looking to internal memory. After doing this the update process will be fine.
Thanks Irbizar,
It worked, just like you said. But I did more. I've factory reset, removed the card and made the update.
It was a pain to do it, but it's done know.
Thank you!
