[Q] Galaxy S III on Ntelos?? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't see the Galaxy S3 listed on Ntelos website. Is it possible to activate it on their network? I guess you'd have to buy it right out at $700 or whatever the raw price is, huh?
My boss at work needs two new phones, and he uses Ntelos. They have a small selection, no phones I would personally get.
Any suggestions to this conondrum?

Samsung Galaxy S3 Flashed to ntelos!
I have a verizon samsung galaxy s3 flashed to ntelos, I just rooted and unlocked the bootloader then took the phone back to ntelos to have it reflashed which is not possible since my phone is rooted which sucks, now i have to unroot and get the phone reflashed. Guess i just got to wait for the jellybean update!

Just checking to see if you were ever successful keeping root on NTelos? Thinking of switching over and would like to know if you found any ROMS that are operational?

I just had a Sprint SGS3 moved to nTelos. I had unlocked it and rooted it, stock 4.1.2 ROM, and they moved it over without any problems, gave it back to me still rooted, but working on their network. The only problem, I cannot send MMS messages, but I can receive them. Weird.

I have MMS now working with a third party MMS app that Flash2Talk gave me. Also, looking at your nTelos APNS, I see my MNC is 47, not 580. All my other nTelos phones report this number as 47 as well. I was able to add my APN using the SQL Editor from the play store (paid app), and edited this file using it:
/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db
Here are my settings:
name: nTelos
numeric: 31047
mcc: 310
mnc: 47
apn: internet
user: *
server:
password: *
proxy:

authtype: -1
type: mms,default
current:
protocol: IP

roaming_protocol: IP
carrier_enabled: 1
bearer: 13
After setting this up, I then went to /etc and renamed apns-conf.xml to apns-conf.xml.bak
I will try changing the mnc to match yours and see it I can again use the stock messaging app to send MMSes.
EDIT: That did not make any difference whatsoever.
Thanks

I downloaded the apn app and see 2 different ones either one will only allow me to edit the apn name weird?

For a working Ntelos MMS.APK . sending receiving text and picture messages please google tools.flashingtools.com download from internet. it will be for multiple 4.0 versions. If you download from your phone it will pick it automatically( it did for me) its not the prettiest mms.apk but it works like a charm for people on ntelos.

I have two s3 on ntelos one Sprint and one us cellular which fully work fine I flash phones so it's very easy I also have a s4 also

Are you still having problems? Pretty sure you need the uscell sim. I had same problem even with a sim unlock. I'm on ntelos also with a us cellular s4. Everything is working. After updating through latest mf5 I had problem with data. Removing the sim card fixed it but im left with the no sim icon. Doesnt bother me but is strange.
Also you can go to. Tools.flashingtoolslibrary.com to get messaging app for strickly for ntelos that allows mms to work properly.

I would love to hear more. This has been a problem for me with flashing my phone. The pic message doesn't come in quite clear appears grainy. Not sure if it was the Flasher or what.

I flash phones to Ntelos on an almost daily basis. I find the apk from mms.flashingtools.com to be unreliable and users have also complained of the picture quality being grainy. The app that I use when flashing phones is actually GO SMS Pro from the Play Store. It takes a bit longer to complete because there are some configurations you need to type in on the settings of the app, but it has a 99.9% success rate for myself personally and for my customers.
Once Go SMS Pro has been installed on the phone, click on Menu > Settings > Advanced Settings > MMS Settings.
Check the box next to "Fill User Agent Manually" - In the section below it type in "LG840" (without quotation marks)
Check the box next to "Fill User Profile URL Manually" - In the section below it type in "h t t p : / / uaprof. ntelospcs. net/ LG840.xml" (without quotation marks or spaces)
Check the box next to "Fill APN configuration Manually" - In the section below it type in "h t t p: / / mms. ntelospcs. net/ ?X -MDN=1xxx-xxx-xxxx" (after MDN= you type the number one in along with the 10 digit customer's phone number. (without quotation marks or spaces)
Once those settings are in place, there should be no problem sending or receiving MMS with Ntelos flashed devices.
ALSO - I have an SPH L710 from Sprint flashed to Ntelos that has been rooted. I also flashed a KitKat rom succesfully onto the phone without it affecting the flash to Ntelos.

Thanks! This worked very well with my SPH-L710! I wish these advanced settings were available in Handscent SMS. Oh well, Go SMS is not bad.
I did have one problem. I got your post as an email, and put in the information using that email. However, after the quotes, the email had an asterisk. ie "*http://.......*" Like that. Once I logged into XDA, I realized the asterick was not really there. Weird. Anyway, all is working. Thanks again

Something I have noticed, when wifi is turned on, it takes Go SMS as much as 30 minutes to send a mms. However under 3G with wifi off, it sends as fast as expected. Any idea what is going on with that?

Answer: How to configure Android for MMS only on AT&T (no data)

How many times have you given your 12 year old a smart phone with data disabled, only to then get the complaints that they can't send or receive MMS. This is how to configure APNs for MMS only, and great for people that don't have a data plan (kids). Note: Data has to be enabled but the phone will be mis-configured, therefore will never use any. All data connection attempts will fail except mms.
I have fully tested this on at&t. An equivalent config for other providers will work. Simply, break the part that makes data work.
Instructions: Create the following two APNs. If a value is not specified, do not configure it.
Step 1 Create broken data APN
Name: Dummy APN
APN: dummy
MMS port: 80
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,internet <-- exactly as typed no spaces
(remember to hit lower left menu, save)
Step 2 Create working MMS APN
Name: ATT MMS
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,mms <-- exactly as typed no spaces
(remember to hit lower left menu, save)
Step 3. Select broken APN as active
Now that the above are configured, select Dummy APN as the active APN.
Step 4. Enable data.
THE END
The result will be that data will not function. Sending and receiving MMS will function.
In this config, setting the phone to 2G is feasible, as data transfer speed is no longer a priority and 2G will yield far better battery life than 3G
Optional: If you have a situation that requires data, you can toggle over to the APN called ATT Data, below. In all cases android Data remains enabled, and using the APN toggle method determines if the phone will use data. MMS continues to work in all scenarios. At no point do you select the ATT MMS APN. The phone 'find's the APN with type mms, whenever it needs to send or receive a MMS message.
Optional Step 5:
Name: ATT Data
APN: wap.cingular
MMS port: 80
MNC: 410
APN type: default,supl,internet <-- exactly as typed no spaces

You don't. This is for people that don't buy a smart phone from at&t, but a hand-me-down or one from ebay.
This gives you the technical method to ensure you don't use billable data on an Android phone, like when you swap your kid's sim into their first smart phone and still want MMS to work (requires data be enabled)

Yeah I put a dumb phone sim in my old backflip about a yr ago and within an hour got a txt saying that. Was no problem calling and telling them it wasnt a permanent thing but they did add the highest data plan automatically. And they did this without the phone using any data at all. It was on wifi only, data disabled.
Hi:
This is great information, and has been very useful to me.
I have an odd question, does anyone know of a method like this for iphone?
I still have my gs3, and love it, but mom has an iphone that she would like to use for mms, but no data.
Ihave been searching everywhere, any help would really be appreciated.
Thanks!

It would be more appropriate (and probably more productive) if you went to the iphone board and asked there.
incredibly helpful, worked great on a nexus on at&t. thanks!!
I left it at 310 which is the default and i think the Android OS is somehow using background data.
Can someone help me android os is still using data with these apn settings. Im using a rooted nexus 4 with the stock rom.

Hi all. I'm a noob and a novice when it comes to phones and android. I have a AT&T galaxy S2 with a text plan, no data and I've been trying to figure out how to get MMS to work. I tried jjwantmyself's steps but I'm suspicious... MMS started working but so did all my apps and email.
jjwantmyself - is this what's happening in your case???
Also, I wasn't allowed to leave the MCC blank in the dummy APN. I had to use 310. For the APN type, I had to select from a predefined list which included internet, mms, supl for both the dummy and att mms. I tried setting the att mms APN type to just MMS but that didn't work.

You are correct in your assessment. I found that in some cases, Android would set the working 'data' connection as the selected / preferred connection, despite dummy having been previously chosen. I wish Android was a bit dumber in this area. My conclusion, for some time, has been that mms only is not viable unless your device properly honors your selected apn (ref anything that is not Android). Bottom line is that the people writing the code for smartphones are not catering for sms/mms only subscribers.

The method on post #1 worked fine on my Nexus 4 until the Android 4.3 update.
Now it's not working anymore.
Well it's working if I'm connected to wifi (it uses the MMS APN for MMS), but if I'm not connected to wifi it doesn't work anymore.
Any idea? I was so happy that was working.
I have no data plan (I'm paying for what I use) but I have unlimited MMS.
it's still not letting me download my mms. "currently unable to download. please try again later." hmm...
I have not done any additional testing since I originally worked on this. Android continues to change with every version and manufacturer's implementation.
Solved for 4.4.2

I have the Nexus 5 running Android 4.4.2 with the $30 T-Mobile plan with 1500 minutes/texts and 30 MB data, and finally was able to set mobile data to work only for MMS.
It seemed that no matter what the APN was set to, the phone would connect to the internet. Apparently, the newest Android got so smart that as long as there was any APN saved and the 'APN type' was set to 'internet,' 'default,' or was left blank, it would connect do mobile data regardless of any other settings.
The solution is to have only one APN with a fake name and APN, with the 'APN type' set to 'mms.' For example:
Name: Dummy
APN: dummy
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC:
MMS proxy:
MMS port:
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type:
APN type: mms
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: IPv4
Bearer:
MVNO type:
The actual details of the MMS-specific APN are found under the SMS settings through Hangouts - a separate APN with the original settings from T-Mobile. Using only the APN listed above means that the phone cannot connect to the internet except to send and receive MMSes.
Problem solved!

[Q] Unlocked Galaxy Note (i717) on ST T-Mobile Text (SMS) not working to Verizon

I've done some searching and didn't happen to run across anyone that was having a similar problem. Originally, I thought this might be a StraightTalk/Verizon issue, but I've confirmed that one of my family members with ST T-Mobile can text with Verizon folks just fine. So let me dive into the details...
I've had my StraightTalk T-Mobile sim card for about a week now. I activated it without any problems, set up the APN and everything seemed to be working just fine. I've been texting with a few family members and some co-workers without issues. My data and voice calls are all working fine as well.
I went to text a friend that has Verizon post paid service and he never got my text. So I sent a few more without success, then tried to text my own Verizon number (since my account is still active for the moment) and I never received my own text either. He sent me a text message that I received just fine though, but again he didn't get my response. Just to further test, I send an MMS message to myself and my friend on Verizon and that came through just fine, so it appears that all texting capabilities work with the following carriers (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, ST T-Mobile) with the exception of regular SMS to Verizon.
Here are my APN settings:
Name: StraightTalk T-Mobile
APN: wap.tracfone

Password: Not set

About the phone... I purchased an AT&T Note (sgh-i717) and unlocked it myself. The unlock was successful but I was only getting edge data since T-Mobile has re-farmed the towers in my area yet. So, I installed CWM and flashed the Blaze4G radios. I'm now getting consistent signal and H+ speed (4-8 mbps avg, 14 mbps peak). The only other thing I had to change was that my phone number wasn't showing up in the About Phone -> Status section, so I went into the dialer -> Settings -> Additional Settings -> My Phone Number and set it there in the format of xxx-xxx-xxxx. I also just flashed the T-Mobile VKL1 radio as well but no change in my sms issue.
I'm a bit lost at this point on why everything else would work except for sending sms to Verizon but yet I can receive them from Verizon just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Texts aren't immediate when the network is busy. Sometimes the delay can be several hours.
None of my Verizon messages are ever delivered, some from 3-4 days ago. I called Straight Talk tech support and they are tracing some of my messages. One of the things they thing might be wrong is the message center number that is configured in my phone but they didn't want to change it until after they could do further research.
Update: Confirmed the smsc is correct, so that doesn't appear to be the issue.
Just a follow up in case anyone else ever had an issue similar... a T-Mobile technician called me today, they found out Verizon had blocked my cell phone number from their network. After the tech got the ban lifted, texting is working just fine.

That's interesting. And it sucks. You could have spent hours\days working on something you could never fix. Did they give any reason for your block? Glad you got it worked out.

You'll want to flash the T-Mobile ROM in the development section. Follow the instructions carefully.

Fix for MMS: Global ROM on T-Mobile

After searching for many days, I was unable to find a real fix for my MMS issues when using any Global based ROM. Everything else worked perfectly, except for MMS. I cound not send or receive. This is how I was able to resolve the issue:
The first thing to do is delete any APN's that are currently listed.
Next add the APN for T-Mobile data:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then add the MMS APN:
Your list of APN's should look like this:
After creating the APN's, you'll need to install the JB AOSP messaging app from here:
http://concentriclivers.com/android/Messaging-4.0.3-8.apk
This is a previous version of Tim Hutt's Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS found in the Play Store. (In the current version, MMS is broken)
The next steps requires the Pro version of Titanium Backup. In TB Pro, freeze the stock messaging app:
The next step is optional, but will allow the JB messaging app to remain installed after a data reset. In TB Pro, convert the new messaging app to a System App:
After you convert it to a System App, you should no longer see the option to uninstall under "App Info". The uninstall option should be replaced by "Disable":
The only thing to do now, is test it out by sending an MMS message. This may work with other messaging apps (e.g., Go SMS) however I did not test any others besides the AOSP app. This fixed my MMS issue. I hope it help those who are having the same problem. Good luck! :good:
I'll give this a try! Been banging my head against mms for a week or two now..
Is removing all the APNs a required step? For example, if the rom I choose already has tmobile Internet and tmobile mms listed like your screenshot?
Good find, hope it works for me!

You should be OK if you already have the two APN's listed. Just make sure they have the same settings as the ones posted above.

Confirmed, worked great for me. Thanks a ton for this. Mms was the only thing keeping me away from sense roms.

Pull down the notifications screen & tap on Settings
Tap on Mobile Data (some phones say "more")
Tap Mobile Networks (some phones have "Access Point Names" here)
Tap Access Point Names
Press the menu button

This won't work. You'll need to create a data APN and an mms APN. The APN Type will change to "default,hipri" whenever the "default" type is entered and the APN is saved. For simple, follow my directions above and substitute the values for Simple Mobile.
Hey Guys I have a Factory HTC Rezound and I went to switch it to Tmobile and they said it needs to be unlocked. After much reading it looks like it comes factory unlocked. Do I need to flash a special Rom to get it to take a Tmobile sim? Also will 3g /4g work ?

While Verizon may say it is factory unlocked, it isn't. Look up a tutorial on how to unlock the gsm antenna. That'll do the trick. While you're at it. Install a custom rom, too.
This isn't an easy process by any means. So prepare for frustration. If modifying your phone isn't something you are comfortable with or you just don't have the time. I would suggest finding a member who is reputable on here to remote flash it for you. ( Be nice and tip well) or just sell the Rezound and by something new.

the lastest global rom fix that problem ?

SCH-i605 On TMobile / Simple Mobile Tested

Well folks after a few diff ROMS and random tests I got the VZW GN2 running on Simple Mobile with great success.
> 4/Mbps Down
> 2/Mbps Upstream
+ Text/MMS working fine
+ No SIM Error/Missing annoyances
What I find ironic is at home in Brooklyn, NY my Verizon LTE only gets about 2Mbps Downstream and less then 500 Kbps Upstream. On Simple Mobile its most certainly faster. Granted....... I have yet to test in Manhattan but thus far it looks great. Going to give TMO a try also and see what it can do.
If anyone has interest ill document the results.
I have a custom ROM in progress but for the Simple Mobile test I used JellyBeans B13 and APN Editor mod on an obviously Unlocked Bootloader and Rooted GN2 via CASUAL.
Simple Mobile = $50/mo 4GB 4G + Unlimited Talk and Text w/o a contract seems like a no brainer given the speeds I am seeing. (My cellular data rarely breaks 2GB since I am generally on WifI)
UPDATED: Here is TMO -vs LTE in my house.
VZW 4G LTE :
621 kbps Down
166 kbps Up
{

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
TMobile HSPDA+ :
7,232 kbps Down
1,270 kbps Up
The results for about 20 block radius on VZW (even across the street from the VZW Store) only go up to about 2800 kbps down and not more then 800 kbps Up. The results attached are in my den in the house. (BTW I live in Brooklyn, NY..... not exactly out in the country far from civilization).
I need to borrow a friends Simple Mobile microsim and take a few screenshots of that also.
Overall VZW 4G coverage ; irrespective of indicated signal strength (2-5 Bars) has only broken 3000 kbps Down once .... TMO and Simple are def performing much better.
Please tell me how to do the same to my phone.
Money is kinda tight so I was thinking of switching me and my wife over to simple Mobile but don't know how I know very little about it.

Have you used an AOSP rom on your Verizon Note 2 yet? Will data even work on them by editing the APN's?
Must certainly be the area your in. I pulled 15mbs down with simple, 20mbs with vzw in the same area. And I can tell you too I dropped calls 20 times as much with simple. What works in some areas might not in others.

Hi Guys,
Unfortunately I have not been able to get a data connection since I switched from Verizon to T-mobile with my Samsung Galaxy Note2. I am able to place and receive calls, and send and receive text messages, but no data connection. I created a new APN entry on my Note 2 with the following settings that are shown on T-Mobile's website, but still no data connection. Does anyone happen to know what 'magic setting' that I might have wrong? FYI, I've already tried both 'fast.t-mobile.com' and 'epc.tmobile.com' for APN field.
The only "data connection" that I've been able to get so far is I guess what's called an 'Edge' connection. What I mean by this is that at the very top of the screen just to the left of the signal strength icon instead of '4G LTE' or '3G', it instead shows a 'E', and below the 'E' are the normal up and down arrows. The 'Edge' connection is so slow, that all of the speed test applications that I've tried won't even run and bomb out with messages like 'no network connection' or 'check your connection', etc.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks

T-Mobile HTC One Stock APN Settings

Hi, I have a Stock T-Mobile HTC One with no Root using the stock APN below
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
APN Type: default,supl,admin,hipri
And my speeds on HSPS+ are super slow no more then 3.0MB
But when I'm using this APN settings bellow

I get 10.0MB UP to 20.MB but wont send any MMS. Has anyone run into similar issues on the HTC One? Is there a fix for MMS.
Thanks

I hope I am not intruding here, but this thread is the closest to what I am looking for (stock) and I figured that any one of you could probably answer this question.
I do not have direct access to the phone and need to pass this on to my son, so please dont skip any steps, assuming knowledge. I have never even held an HTC phone yet. My son absolutely loves it though and has me intrigued. ?
Anyway, he has an "HTC One" that he purchased here in the USA, at a T-Mobile store.
I know that with my Samsung, there is not only the Samsung line name (Note 2), but there is also a specific Model # that Sprint puts into the phone (in my case, SPH-L900). And then, even from there, it divides up further into US & International versions, each with its own model #, even within the same carrier.
I am thinking that maybe it is the same for the HTC One line?
My son looked in the Info" screen, but all it says is "HTC One" and nothing else.
Please, where should he go to find this information?
Or is this not relevant in the HTC world?
He wants to stay with the Factory ROM, but Root it. I know applying the wrong tools can quickly brick a phone.
Can someone help me with this please? Once I have the right tool, then I can take it from there. Thanks!

Has that SIM worked successfully in any android phone? Might be as easy as calling tmobile and having them reprovision your SIM. Everything above looks correct for an unmodified apn.

The only other two things I can think of that might work are go into the APN settings and click 'reset to default' reboot and see if it works. And try registering on another carrier in the network operators menu - you should get an error that your SIM isn't supported and then manual re-register on T-Mo.
