Best method to root phone. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What's up guys. I have been a long time HTC Evo guy. Having had all evos except the LTE.
Previously I was using 4 ext recovery on my Evo 3d and loved the simplicity of it.
I know 4 ext currently does not support the galaxy s3, do my question is what is the easiest and best method of routing this phone.
Thanks guys.

Hmmm. There is no simple recovery without using Odin. Like unrevoked? Or 4 ext?

Odin is already simple enough.

I forgot to mention I have the Sprint galaxy s3. Model SPH-L710. I don't believe the above mentioned link is compatible with my phone. Anyone know of a good recovery method for my phone.
Thank you.

try this link out....my friend just rooted his sprint using the same method...odin is pretty easy and safe...download the files and follow the procedure on the forum....should be done in minutes...best of luck

Thanks for the link.
I also ran across this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoEVDgjTTdg&list=PL7011CD883D5201B8&index=12&feature=plpp_video
Followed instructions and I now am rooted.
Very simple and easy to follow.

Yeah..always ready to help!!

A few questions about rooting

Hello all! OG Evo user here, I have been given the task of rooting my boss's phone.
My first obstacle is that I see three different 'android development' sections. Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II original, and I9100S (might have got that wrong, I'm on my phone!). I see no stickies that explain this.. is it carrier specific? She has US Cellular. This leads me to my next question.
Does her carrier matter? I don't need some sort of US Cellular specific file do I? Not flashing any roms, I just want root so we can clean up her system and tether.
Last question, is clockworkmod recovery worth two craps on this phone? Cause on the OG Evo it's worthless. The only ones worth using on my phone are AmonRA and variants of it.
Thanks guys!

First thing you do is look at the sticker on the chassis of the phone under the battery & report the details back here. We don't do/tell you anything until you've done that.

Ok cool, what am I looking for? Just post everything it says?

Yes. All of it.
Reason being, I'm not going to be the person who tells you to do X assuming you have SGS2 variant A when in fact you have SGS2 variant B & doing X could brick the phone (I'm using X, A & B as examples; they're not literal).

Specifically model number. On US Cellular I suspect the model is SCH-R760.
Ok I will check it when I get the chance this week. Thanks guys!

If all you're shooting for is root access, try Superoneclick. Always worked for me.
You need to have ADB on the 'puter and the phone in debug mode.

One more thing. If I'm right about the model, then definitely don't flash anything from this forum, as this is the forum for the i9100, which is a different model phone

Rooting s2 question.

Well let me start by saying I have rooted phones before, so I know a decent amount of the processes. But it's been a while.
My question is, is there currently a one click root method for an sgs2 on sprint running ics 4.0.4? A friend of mine just got one and he wants me to root it for him like I did his evo a while back.

I believe that method was patched in 2.3.6, and this guy is on 4.0.4. (and this is still in the wrong forum for him)

[Q] Best root guide to follow

Hi, thinking about rooting my S3, can someone recommend the easiest/best/safest way to do this? This is my first Samsung phone, but have rooted HTCs in the past, which was easy enough to do.
I’ve seen a few guides, but not sure what the best one is.
Cheers
Use mskips method for rooting S3....
Its very easy and safe one.......
I used it.....
Now I m on omega 33.1 ROM....

New To Thunderbolt! Suggest Best Way To Root? 1 Click?

Hey Guys!
I am new to the Thunderbolt and I was just wondering if there was a really nice and easy way to root the Thunderbolt like the Galaxy Nexus 1-Click [GNEX TOOLKIT V11.1.0]?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Needspractice
http://www.forums.infectedrom.com/showthread.php?p=67914
This is currently the only working method to unlock, root and s off a thunderbolt that is running stock ics.

Thanks I'll give it a shot ya it seems other roms are creating BSOD on windows so hopefully this one works!
Man! Was the Thunderbolt not that popular? I thought it was... There is like 50 steps in that rooting process.
Why has not somebody developed a 1 click or simplified rooting program for the Thunderbolt? Just curious.
Do you know of any other way to root it without it taking forever or having extensive knowledge about rooting?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A new hboot came with our ics update which added about 20+ steps. It also made the old method from the allinone tool obsolete.

If you can find the Thunderbolt which had stock GB you can downgrade to the ENG HBOOT. It will never update if you run full stock. (plus there are several other different things you can do with it)

Is this still correct, or can we now use the 1.1 beta Thunderbolt Tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41384498&postcount=519 ?

I would also like to know if this works as of Today? Can anyone verify this?
As far as I know it didn't work correctly. You can try it you want though. Remember that's a beta though.

I came from an Incredible 2. Broke the screen on that, but a friend was upgrading, so I grabbed his old Thunderbolt for a few beers. Surprised that this phone is tougher to root and there are less ROM options, but it's a solid phone and now I'm using Santod's Jelato ICS De-Sensed.
I used the thunderbolt tool to get root and s-off about a month ago, and it did work. I remember I did have to switch from my desktop to a laptop because of BSOD issues described in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703455&page=54 TBTool thread. I linked to the page where they discuss the BSOD and the need for ICS radios when flashing ICS ROM.
Good luck. I does work.
The thunderbolt tool will work if you're on the old hboot and or GB. It will not work for you if youre on the ICS hboot.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
As far as ROMs go it depends on which os version you are talking about. GB there was many different roms to choose from. Only reason there are so few ICS ROMs is by the time ICS was released almost call the devs had moved on to the gnex,n4,s3,DNA, so on and so forth. If HTC would have gave the bolt ICS when ICS came out the phone would have had many ICS ROMs..
Rooting if rooting a GB bolt was easier than rooting a rezound. Granted they made it harder with ICS but that's with all phones with updated bootloaders.

downgrade from ICS/root/S-0ff with 1.1Beta TOOL
I can confirm that today I used Santod040's amazing ThunderBolt-Tool 1.1 Beta on a sweet used TBolt
that had taken the latest OTA. It did the job! Now I'm S-0ff and running a custom rom that does WiFi Tether good.
Thanks for great effort, Santod040......
What made you ask that in this forum lol? It would appear though that most of the newer devices aren't that easy to root just yet. The HTC one for Verizon currently is still locked out.

Coming from Thunderbolt. What do I need to know about rooting an S4?

I just picked up the S4 today after using the Thunderbolt for over 2.5 years. The Thunderbolt I have was rooted by myself and I flashed all ROMs/kernels/radios by myself using Clockwork and 4ext.
Now moving onto the S4, is flashing similar to how it was done on the Thunderbolt or is it completely different?
Is there an hboot on the S4?

No hboot. Rooting is way easier here (assuming you rooted with the original jcase method which was a nerve wracking pain). Just follow the directions. Odin sort of replaces hboot, in that you flash radios (Samsung world calls then modems from what I have seen) using it. Once you have a custom recovery installed, there is not much difference really.

All you need to know is that it's much easier to root than the bolt. I know I had the bolt, then Galaxy Nexus and now the S4.

Yep, I rooted using the first (manual) method for the Thunderbolt. It was a PITA.
