Is my Sony MH750earphone defective? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

When plugged in i hear a constant buzz along with the background nose. The noise however stops as soon as i place a finger over the earphone mic but starts as soon as i remove the finger.
Is this normal? Or do i have a defective piece?
Sent from outer space using Picard's Lt22i via SciFi

It's not normal i think, mine don't have that.
Have you tried using another pair of earphones/headphones?

Thanks for that. None of my friends use smartphones yet. :crying:
Will just go to the shop and ask for a replacement. Hope they give me one.

Interferences in earbud

I have a pretty annoying problem because from the earbud (under the wrtitten SONY) comes interfecences while i'm speaking with someone using the mobile line.
The interference is like that of the speaker near a mobile phone but from the earbud.
someone has the same problem or mine is a isolated case?

I think you mean earpiece...not earbud.
If you hold the phone near your ear you can hear a very high pitched hiss sound while you are talking? The sound has a pattern to it. If so, then I have tried 2 of these phones and they both do it. I don't now if they all do it, but it seems to be common. Some people who don't have such good high-pitched hearing will not hear it at all. You will never hear it if you are outdoors...only if you are at home in a quiet room.

I hear it too. It's the usual GSM "cellphone interference" sound.
Hi i have the same i hear that xd
But what i have noticed this is only in GSM mode ...at WDCMA its ok..i cant hear this .
I have the same problem. Got my first phone replaced and the new one came today with the same problem.
Try only with WDCMA (3G) and See if that help.

Now I did some tests,
I tried only GSM mode and there's no problem, only WCDMA -> the same thing
Good also WCDMA/GSM..
sometimes the problem seems to disappear
Yeah I too have the same issue.
Its not everytime but sometimes,
Its like a electronics interference noise.
Don't know what's this all about ://

I think it's for the bad isolation of earpiece, but someone think the problem come out when the XS switchs GMS/WSDMA

i can hear that hissing too, i ve searched about it, and it looks like latest smartphones have that kind of problem, the only solution i could find is not to place your ear directly on the earpiece, fortunately this phone has a great in-call volume...
earpiece hissing, crackling, buzzing - problem solved
well amigos, the problem finally has been solved for me, reading this forum https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3414732?start=0&tstart=0
so i turned off my phone, i removed the sim card, i cleaned it using a soft cloth, and then i inserted it back, making sure the sim card was placed correctly in the tray, i tested it several times and guess what, there was no more hissing anymore, so the problem is the micro sim-card, those sim-cards must be placed correctly otherwise it will make that hisssing sound
i hope this works for you too
greetings from colombia...
Had my first two calls today, same problem. Interestingly, it gets louder/more noticeable when I'm actively speaking, not when the other party says something.
Sim-Card is fresh from the envelope, so there shouldn't be scratches, dust or fingerprints on it, but I'll try cleaning it up tomorrow. Got the phone set on GSM only, since I've got bad 3G/UMTS signal at home and I'm pretty sure constant "channel-hopping" would drain the battery.
Hi,
got xperia S yesterday. Great phone... only problem is GSM interference in the earpiece. It is there every time when phone is set to 2G. 3G is free of this issue. As I can hear at every call it's a bit irritating.
I don't know what should I do: sent it back to the store (bought from amazon), try to repair in the service centre or learn to live with it?
Can any of xperia S owners make a siple test: put the phone in "only GSM" mode and make one or two calls. Put earpiece close to the ear and listen to it. I wonder if it's design flaw and every xperis S have this issue, or only some of them....
Anyone who got his phone replaced and the new one came WITHOUT the same problem ???

Piotrze, im having same issue and till now i thought its a problem only of mine phone. And till now ive wanted to send it back to service but if everyone has the same issue it might not be accepted at service, idk.

Speaker noise?

Alright, so I'm on Notorious ROM right now, but no matter what ROM I try, the thing I'm about to explain stays the same.
You know that tone you hear when you press the volume buttons in the home screen? To change the ringtone volume... It's all clear when that happens. By clear I mean no LOUD noise is coming out of the speaker. Only one thing. When you press the up/down volume buttons in the homescreen, or when "Audible selection" (under Settings -> Sound) is checked and you touch the phone (you know, some tone is being played)... I can hear a background noise like that fuss you hear on a Radio when it's not tuned right. It's not loud, but it's there.
But whenever I play a media (movie, game, I don't know), I hear a constant noise coming through the speaker. You know, like a FM radio isn't tuned right... just WORSE. For example, I play a game with the lowest volume - it sucks.
Can you try this for me, please? Put yourself in a quiet room and start a game or a musical or something, and turn the volume to the lowest. See if you can hear that... If you can't, put the speaker next to your ear.
I really am looking forward to your feedback. I'm starting to believe it's a hardware issue, but a software one, as well (otherwise that noise wouldn't be heard only when media is played). PLEASE !
Many phones will do this when they are plugged in and charging. Is it doing it when your phone is running on battery only? If that is the case you can always buy a filter for your AUX cord.

Thats what I figured...But the Aux cord filter that he was talking about is only for using a cable to connect the phone to the line in of another device. I tried it over and over again and the only thing I hear is my music (very softly because i turned it down as low as I could). My friend has an atrix too and he could not replicate this either.

Breaking the screen
The first one hard bricked, the day I got it when I attempted to unlock the bootloader...It was only an hour after I got it so I took it to AT&T and they replaced it. I guess they figured I couldn't have done that much damage in 45 minutes
The second one slid out of my back pocket as I was getting out of the car without me realizing it. It slid right in the door frame and when I closed the car door, the phone bent and the screen cracked. Since the main board was cracked, it quit booting =P I've had my current one though for 6 months and haven't had an issue. (I do have an otterbox defender on it)

That's exactly what I did with a friend of mine. We went to the shop for him to buy a HTC Desire, then we went to a McDonalds and I tried to unlock it. When the radio was flashing, he mistakenly pulled the cable - brick transformation!!! Then we went back to the store (20 minutes later), told them the phone was not booting anymore.

There's something in that phrase that doesn't make sense there... but yeah, I got the last part of it, so case closed .
Just watch out for the future. No more waving at birds with your phone laced to the small finger... it may slip out and break more than just your finger . Hah, now THAT's stupid.

To protect my ATRIX, I have a MOMAX iCase Pro case on it. It snaps on so fast & easy, that it is just as easy to take off... so if you drop the phone, the case snaps off from the corner it lands. That happened to me. Lucky me, the crappy plastic of the phone barely got scratched on its right "cheek"... Need a new case (this one is rather used) or a tighter / thicker one. Oh well...

weird sound issue

ok so basically what happen the other day was that i installed some lockscreen app.. after uninstalling it as was not to my taste, I've somehow lost the sound to my device however when my wired headset is in everythings perfectly fine.. anyone have a clue what on earth has happened?

Well , yeah, same here randomly losing control of my audio device. Launching a video MAY sometimes fix it , but audio loss can be fixed through rebooting only. Wierd issue. On the official asiaretail ICS leak.
It is not software, but hw fault, try to press on the plastic cover by the camera.
At least I have this issue, when I plug in a micro usb, micro hdmi or jack in, sometimes when I pull it out, it somehow moves the external speaker and it stops to play, until I put some pressure on it )). There is a post about it.

Here's a way to manually override it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix
The downside is it won't auto-detect headphones, but the upside is that it'll work perfectly every time. I installed this after my alarm thought I was using headphones when none were plugged in; can't have that sort of failure again.
This happened to me once... I read about the speaker contact issue and tried the "rub like you're sealing an envelope" trick and no joy... I pressed to the point of fearing I would crush the thing and it started working again. It's been about 3 weeks and has been fine, since.
Yeah that is the solution. The problem is it comes again and again. Everytime I set the alarm I am checking if the speaker plays. Wow a 500 euro phone. )))))

I actually just bought a Maxx of craigslist and it had this problem of tinny or very quiet sound or sometimes none. I took the speaker out of my OG Razr and popped it in. Perfect now.
You can get the replacement speaker for $10 on ebay. Very easy to replace if you have the tools.

I droped my DNA about 1 month ago and the screen cracked, luckily the digitizer was fine but the glass was cracked bad. Then a week later I guess I was to "rough" with my DNA and I screwed up the digitizer. Al I could see was a black screen with some green and purple lines going on it. So I needed to get it replaced, it would cost me around $150. Everything was working, even the screen, I could still feel the vibrations of me trying to put in my passcode, in other words, it could still recognize me puting in touch inputs but I could couldn't see what I was touching. I put in my head phones to listen to music, and it was fine, the sound was clear and everything. 2 weeks later I go to the repair shop to get it fixed, they put on a new screen and it looks brand new. I get home and I notice the side of the screen is messed up because when I try and press the q button on the keyboard it types the lettet w. So as hard as I try to type the letter q, it won't work. Sadly, I didn't test out my earpiece or the headphone jack. Now I take it back and they order a new LCD and digitizer. I come back in a couple of days so they can put it on the screen works fine. The next day I try to call one of my friends but I notice there was a problem. When I call the screen goes as normal, but when I take the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't come back on. No matter how hard I tried to get it back on, it would get back on. Worst, the earpiece didn't work. I couldn't hear anyone in a call, they could here me but I couldn't here them. I take it back to the repair place, they order like 10 earpieces but it didn't fix the issue. Now they are saying that the problem is my motherboard. So at this point, the only things that don't work are the proximity sensor, the camera because I get an error (cannot connect to camera error), the earpiece, and the headphone jack because its all staticy when I try to watch youtube videos. Yes I have tried many many headphones but the problem keeps persisting. I forgot to mention that my doubletap2wake doesn't work or my sweep2wake. A couple of days later the guy who owns the shop says the problem is the motherboard. I try to get my money back but I had no luck. What do guys have to say? I came in for one problem to get fixed, then I get another. Worst of all my phone just shuts off at like 50%. I can't restart it or anything, I have to connect it to a charger in order to turn it on? What do you guys have to say? They said that when you open up the phone, the pins that holding things in place break off and people get these issues. Sorry for this being so long.

Sounds like they messed it up bad when they put it back together. What repair service did you use. It might not even be worth bothering with the phone anymore it sounds like they messed it up when they were in there fixing it. Make them fix the entire thing or make them get you a new phone. Judging by how many problems are present you may as well just get a new phone.
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

Unlocked my white 32GB after 300 MB download. No issues.
Installed a few apps, nothing special yet, no system related apps.
This afternoon my N9 started ticking from the bottom speaker each time I touch the glass. Just unlocking via pattern does it also.
About 12-15 very quick clicks like a speaker wire is shortening out.
Any hope before I call in a RMA?

How loud are these clicks?
It isn't unusual to get quiet clicks and buzzes when using a device, the Nexus 4 for example is a famous for it, it constantly makes a noise if you put your ear to it even when it is sleeping.
The CPU and other components are awake shy. They spend a large amount of time in sleep mode, perhaps coming on for a millilsecond then going off for several milliseconds, then back on at the next touch where it needs to display a nice graphic or do something, then off again. Everytime the CPU switches on, so does a lot of electrical circuitry to drive the power requirements. Currents switching on and off flowing through wires creates noise, either audible directly, like the hum from a kettle or a buzz from a power supply, or via electrical noise that is picked up by other circuits, for example the amplifier for the sound, which then makes it audible. Almost every electronic device if you put your ear to it makes a noise and buzzes, often changing in tone when you make it do something.
So I would say if it is very quiet, only audible in a quiet room when near to the tablet, it's is probably just normal operating noise. You might find a replacement is quieter, or you may find it is louder. You may find someone else can't hear it at all, if you are young you are more likely to hear these things than someone who is older as we lose high frequency hearing as we get older, and listening to loud music in headphones makes it happen quicker
Of course if it is pretty loud, audible all the time and annoying, certainly go for a replacement.

Phil
Just wanna make sure, but you are not talking about the button touch sound on Android 5.0 are you? The sound has been changed to a very swooshing sound that almost sounds like static on an audio line.
Thank you guys for your input.
The sounds I observed were loud, not the near silent hum kind. More like a finger nail is hitting a window.
The sound got progressively louder during my trouble shooting.
It ended up in a total distorted, muffled tone coming from the bottom speaker.
Something inside shortened out.
I had a micro-Tesla conductivity meter this morning at my bench and I could see that by touching the screen even at the top it induced a small current directly at the bottom speaker.
I called an RMA and the N9 was declared DOA.
Replacement is in the mail.

When you called what did you tell them? Where did you get it from? I got mine from best buy, and have this same problem. I think I'm going to wait until its closer to my 14 day period... Maybe I'll get a second batch device.

Not me. The ticking sound was the first thing I listened for when was testing out the speakers. I didn't hear anything out of the ordinary.
Took me awhile to be sure though cuz the song i used to test actually did have occasional ticks in it. I had to relisten to it on my headphones and on my home theather system to be sure it was just the song and it was.

I told them just my findings. Repeated click sounds by touching screen from a single speaker. This was a direct Google order and they sent a replacement within 24 h's. No questions asked.
The new White N9 is perfect. No unusual click sounds. In addition to that, there is a little less light bleed and from the few hours I used it so far I get the feeling that the battery is lasting a good bit longer. The first N9 went from 100% to about 40% within 3 h's of trouble shooting, the replacement is still at 75% after I unlocked & rooted and put back all my files, about 2.5 h#s screen-on-time. Makes sense, since the constant shortening out the speaker uses electricity.
The serial number difference of the last 4 numbers is a 44 higher count number, so I believe its the same batch/lot.
Overall, a quick and painless exchange and Google's RMA process is one of the fastest and easiest I have gone through.
