Noob Questions - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Okay, how do I turn off read receipts when sending mail? I am having trouble sending emails because all it sends is a read receipt with nothing in it that I actually wrote.
Also how do I make different notification sounds for email, text, facebook, voicemail, etc.?

For the email, you'd have to check in the settings; can't be much help there. Using exchange?
Making a text notification: go into the respective messaging app, stock, go sms, handcent, ect > notification settings, and then you select the tone you want from the system or your sd card, ect. Google talk also offers that same option. As far as facebook and email, you'd need a 3rd party app to do that; i know light flow has options to control the leds, but ti also has a section for notifications, so you can look into that.

[Solved] Strange Google Voice Problem - charged by T-Mobile ???

Every time a text message is sent to my Google Voice number, I get 2 identical messages simultaneously: one in my google voice app, and one in my phone's "Messaging" app - and I get charged by T-mobile for the text message, even though it was sent to my Google Voice number??? Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Disable the "Receive text messages on this phone" option in GV.
But I'd like to receive text messages on this phone via GV.. why would I want to disable that?
because it will still go to the google voice app, just not directly to the phone's text messaging program.

Click to collapse
That makes no sense, but I did it anyway and it didn't work. I disabled text messaging option and sent a text message to my GV number - my phone didn't get anything. Sorry, but I don't understand how you expected that to work. Thanks anyway...
If you turn off the "receive text messages on this phone" the sms will still go to the google voice app inbox but not be forwarded to the "real" phone number as well. You check the texts and respond to them there, not through the default texting app. You disable this property by going to google voice (the website) going to the phone tab, finding your phone under "forwards to:", and clicking edit.
Oh, I'm sorry... I misread. However, after I disabled "receiving text messages on this phone", my GV app on the phone stopped notifying me of new text messages in my GV inbox, which is why I didn't think it would work. So now I need to figure out why it's not notifying me of new texts at all.
Nevermind - it arrived, but delayed.
Thanks for taking the time to explain. I appreciate your help.
No problem. If you setup the texts to forward to your email address or setup a separate one simply for the texting, you can receive notifications that way as well.
As long as the phone app notifies relatively promptly, that'll work. I was just worried because I never changed any settings in my GV account, and on my previous phone (Motorola Cliq), all texts only came to the GV app and never to the main messaging program.

Reminder App

I thought this would be easy to find a GOOD app for this but it hasn't.
I'm after an app that will give reminders for notifications other than my calender and sms ones eg missed call, facebook, facebook messenger, touchdown email, etc.
At the moment I have calender snooze for my appointments which works great, and also go sms pro for messages with its inbuilt repeat reminder.
Now does anyone have one that will work for other notifications and not interfere with with my existing reminders, well I could turn go sms repeat reminders off i guess but not calender snooze.
Still Looking
Should have turned this into a battery thread about a cheap 5500mAh battery for $15. Woulda sure had replies
I can't quite work out specifically what you're after, but this seems to fit the bill.

Thankyou. Sure to give this a go.
Stupid thing is I searched a fair amount and all I found only did missed calls or text messaged etc.... Maybe I just left key words from my search and used the wrong terminology.
But this looks like it works for whatever program that has normal android notifications to be added. So can leave go sms pro out of the list and this won't duplicate the good built in repeat reminders.

[Q] notification reminders ???

So, i'm pleased with the stock text messaging app in ICS finally, except no notification reminders. so, back to Handcent, which has become such a bloated slowware now, but i can live with that. i'm used to it.
Then i see no notification reminders in gVoice. no notification reminders in gTalk. Don't want emails to have reminders, but anything chat / text / video calls / internet calls etc should have notification reminder settings. NOTHING DOES!!!
i seriously don't want to need to look and unlock my phone every 5 minutes to see if i missed something!

Gmail notifications not notifying?

I get hundreds of emails every day and I currently get a notification but no audio tone or vibrate as it would be going crazy. This is how I want my general email notifications set up. So that part is fine. What I do want however is for starred messages to play a tone/vibrate similar to my text messages. I went into Gmail and then Manage Labels within the menu and I confirmed that 'Starred' is set to sync all and ring, vibrate, notify once. This to me seems like it should be notifying the way I just described that I'm looking for but there is no different notification for starred messages the way I had hoped. What am I doing wrong here?
Anyone? I can't seem to get this to work no matter what I do.

Go SMS Notications

Hey guys,
So I flashed ClearnROM ACE 4.5 and it doesn't have support for group messaging in the stock app, so I tried go sms to use just for my group messaging. For normal texts I still use the stock TW app. My issue is that whenever my phone gets a text message, I get no notification that I got a text. Nothing. No sound, no light, nothing in the bar. I checked to make sure notifications were enabled in the stock app, and they are, and they are disabled in Go SMS. When I enable the notifs in Go SMS, they work, I get the Go SMS notifications, which I don't want. I want the stock ones.
When I uninstall Go SMS, the notifications work just fine. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Go SMS, clearing the app data for both Go SMS and the stock app. Do you guys have any idea? Should I ask the devs of Go SMS about this or maybe Scott from CleanROM?
There is a setting in Go SMS :
settings/receive settings/disable other messaging notifications
make sure you are using advanced settings.
I'm pretty sure group messaging works just add the names in the recipents
