S3 wifi reception very less range - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all.
I have a problem on sgs3.
Wifi reception in this is very less compared to my laptop. I sit In my garden and can use wifi on laptop very efficiently but there is weak signal in galaxy.. I is the range is less or wifi or there's a problem.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

A laptop receiver has a lot more power to work with.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

Yep, I won't expect S3 to have same wifi reception with laptop. So far I have no issues with it in S3.

My other cellphones and psp has more range than it
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

For me is opposite. Wifi range is superb.

I have put a back cover... I could that be a problem?

Don't worry about bricking your device, from my point of view the benefits of custom roms far outweigh the risks. I've never had a problem so far! Atm I use Blackstar 2.1 with a pretty good wifi reception.

Galaxy S2 still good?

I'm thinking of upgrading my Nexus S, would the S2 be a good upgrade? I really don't care about bleeding edge stuff, I just want it to play the games I want it to and last the whole day (which shouldn't be a problem since I'm buying the extended battery) texting and such.

Yes. I can get 20+ hours on a charge, stock battery, stock rooted. I bought a galaxy nexus and couldn't play many games that I bought. Wimax will be around for a while and by the time you get bored with the s2, chances are that lte still won't be around in many areas. I'm only twenty minutes south of Boston and am not expecting sprint lte at the house...ever.

Yea it's still good. Can play all the games on the store. Can get up to 10 hrs screen time with the 2000mah battery apparently. I would consider the S3 though. At least look into it

Well, I live in Sweden (the first country that got LTE) and all the major cities and surrounding areas already have LTE coverage, but I don't care much for LTE since it drains battery like hell ATM. And our 3G is really fast compared to your 4G and probably Wimax/LTE too.

This phone (i9100) doesn't get WiMax.
EDIT: Also, this phone (which is GSM) doesn't work on Sprint. (a CDMA network)
(not that this matters to the OP....)

The S3 is really expensive compared to the S2, and I feel like it's a waste of money on benchmark performance.

Yea but it's quad core. It's future proof like the s2 was when it came out.. Thats why it has similar specs to the s2

Using the app, didn't realize the op was in Sweden. Regardless, I have the s2 and will more than likely be skipping the s3 cause it's not a huge upgrade here in the states(and it knows when I'm looking at it) and waiting to see what the next nexus offers

I tend to keep phones 'til they're obsolete so future proofing shouldn't be a problem.
Also, I think that quad core just adds to benchmarks, and real world use stays pretty much the same. The difference is minimal, with the dual core just being slightly slower in some transitions and actions.

There hasn't been anything that I couldn't do on the s2 so far. To me, the only reason to consider the s3 would be the new screen
Just upgraded from Nexus one to sgs2. Loving it. Feel like a huge upgrade. Sgs3 prob nice but money talk.

Weak Wifi signal. Modem or Kernel issue?

switched from paranoid ROM to Omega And my Wifi signal dropped 2 bars. IM in the same location as before so I don't understand the problem.
I know some would say just move the router nearer but I don't have that luxury because IM feeding off a neighbor.

Exchanging back to one s. Restore back to stock?

When I exchange to the one s, I'm obviously restoring back to stock via Odin but there is no way of resetting flash count. Would this cause an issue with t-mobile? This phone has way too many connection issues and the one s when I had it for a few days did awesome, unfortunately I jumped on the band wagon.

try return it and see...i have not have troulbe with connection, must be that specific phone or your area
Definitely not my area. Had the one s for a few days and reception was insanely strong. Bought the phone from customer care over the phone.

Would a specific Rom cause issues? I just flashed back to stock and it seems more stable.

Sacrifice signal strength for better hardware, its how it works. Get the crappiest flip phone in the world and it will have good signal strength if that's all you care about in a phone.
They're not going to check the counter. I can assure you.
How is gsm3 better hardware it's almost identical to the one s minus the screen and sd card and removable battery. I'm not bashing, I have the gs3 in my hands.

Judging by your Bio you're from Australia, in your region you are best to stick to the i9300T radios because of the frequencies in your country.
In saying that, the LH1 radio might work just fine, generally the idea with modems is what's good for me might be crap for you and vice-versa.
Basically YMMV.

UK and I lose 70% of signal .
So modem is not for all phones.
You can try the modem yourself.

What would be considered a good modem for in the US?
That's one thing I haven't came across yet in the S3 i9300 threads, a threads featuring different modems? I came from the epic4g, being able to just throw one in with Odin.

Note 2 WIFI Issues on ALL roms

Trying to figure out why my wife's note 2 running JB v16 has one bar of WIFI sitting right next to my vzw S3 with full bars of WIFI signal.
This has been an issue on every note 2 rom I have flashed.
Does anyone have any possible Idea of what the heck is going on?
Thanks in advance.

Check your broadband. This will tell you what your radio's are set to. If you have updated roms, but never updated radios, that may be your problem.

I find my wifi signal is usually really weak compared to other devices too but I really figure it may just be a problem with a few of the N2s.
