Not an easy question to answer! But what are the chances of using a Micro SD Break out board and making a Usb Host from this port? Then the charger could be used whilst watching a movie say for example due to D- and D+ being able to be shorted and resistors added without effecting data transfer due to usb now being on different lines....
Basically this is another approach to having Usb host and charging at same time for watching movies whilst travelling.
Will post up break out pic later..
Also the make your own cables thread with usb host plus charging doesnt work.

Something like this? Maybe....
Can get an adapter from usb to micro sd so wires could be done?
Also seen this could be used??

Hemmm i've forget a thing..
The PDA Charges only 1 time at boot.. why?
I've cortocircuited pins 1 and 2, with the male usb jack in front of you and the white plastic in the low side.
very nice ... what's the usb port for?
The phone will only charge once because you will need to short pins 4 and 5 on the mini USB side of your connector.
To simplify, the TyTN looks for this short to decide what to do with the USB connection. You need to trick it into thinking that the USB cable is a charger.
There's another thread on this somewhere else. It might be a bit difficult to solder, but it'll work.
Oh. One more thing: Your phone will charge more than just the once (after a reboot)... It should also charge if it's turned off (standby). Might take a minute or so, but it should work.
Hello at all,
does anybody know if there is another kind of usb cable for the touch hd like this here?
i really dont like the original cable , while charging the phone its disturbing me holding the phone.

My usb port wont charge or connect to my PC. But when I plug it in while the phone is off you see the blue light blink and the phone boots. well I made jib and I was wondering is it a port issue or my jib? I connected the same points as this guy.

Anyone have any experience with this?
The safest way is to by one from ebay.Ive made a USB jig for a i9000 and i9100 to see if they work and they worked fine. The key to getting them to work isnt just in the soldering but in the resistance. You need to have 301K ohm of resistance when tested with a volt meter after you have made it or it wont work.

Jig
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Got 301 but i had to use extra 1k resistors to get it. still not working
Does the wattage matter because these are all 1/2 a watt.
I'm thinking because the USB port failed I'm screwed.
Took it to sprint and they replaced it.
could be possible to use one of this to connect a flash memory thumb to a android phone or tablet?would android see the external usb drive?
thanx

I'm not sure if it works, being a somewhat techno blur, but it reminds me of this video:
I got an OTG cable recently and had great fun with it.
it will work
it will work on devices having USB OTG(on the go) support.
I used this on samsung galaxy s2. i connected flash drive, keyboard, mouse. all working.
(i think only android device having this feature is galaxy s2)
There's an app called USB host controller, I haven't had time to really read what it's supposed to do but I do recall reading something about being able to mount a flash drive with it. I don't have the thread bookmarked but I found it here.
Hi!, reciently I've been able to play with a joystick

but, since the screen is too small, I would like to know if I can use the MHL HDMI Adapter and the USB adapter to connect to the HDMI enabled tv in the car and the joystick to play while in long trips, or is there any Bluetooth or WiFi to USB Adapter, since I'm in a car, power isn't a problem, But I can't figure out how to get a kind of OTG Hub, even if it's externally powered
Best Regards!
Hdmi out put needs ext power supply of 240v. There about £40 uk pound new. Also ps3 controlers are done by blue tooth. Use one of them and try.
