adding own word to dictionary - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to turn on the User Dictionary on the S3? On my old HTC Desire I could input a word (for example a swear word) and I'd get the option to add the word to the dictionary. Then when I typed it again it wouldn't auto correct it to something different, which is whats happening on my S3 atm.
Thanks

There's a custom word option but stored words will get erased once you reboot the phone. It's a major annoyance for me. You just have to type in landscape mode for the meantime since words that are not in the dictionary can be used without correcting them.

built in word recognizor

is it possible to update or reload a differnet version of this as i must have a joke one that prompts words such as personallyydueurufjdd. its just gibberish - anyone else have this on 4.16?? maybe a move to new qtek or 3.15.15 is better?
Did you get any hints on that one?
This would also be very important for users who want to write foreign language text on their devices (EG a frenchman wants to write english emails or vice versa). Entering text in another than the OS default language using the word recognizer really sucks.
Does anybody know wich files belong to the recognition system, so we could download them to a PC and examine? Maybe we could make a little "language file excange" out of it?

@ martin - no news
anybody know anything on this??

I falsely added some words to the dictionary - can I remove them?

In the onscreen keyboard, the Hero has the possibility for remembering words that are not yet in its dictionary. I added some words by mistake and was wondering if there is a way of removing them (other than a factory reset of course). Thanks for your help!
I have the same issue and emailed HTC. Their reply:
"Android handsets does not provide edit the dictionary settings "
Bad o.o Lets hope it will come
My girlfriend's HTC Magic running the standard Android OS has the option to edit the dictionary, add, delete words etc
Seems they've taken this option away from the Hero for some reason, which is a bit annoying...
so it seems I should take this up with HTC again if they essentially gave me a wrong answer when they said android doesn't support editing the dictionary. tsk tsk ...
i could do with being able to edit the dictionary also. Drunken fat fingers have added some gibberish that keeps popping up
I'd just like to know where the file is. I have rooted my Hero, so if I coudl just find the file, I could at least try to edit it. I tried running a recursive grep for a word I knew was in there, but no luck...

[Q] Disable predictive-like text thing

Hey folks,
May be a stupid question, though I've searched my phone and the net and couldn't find anything, though I'm not sure what I should be searching for anyway.
I'm hoping someone can tell me how to disable the box of words that pops up when typing something, trying to predict what you might be trying to say.
I'm sure it's only been showing up recently, possibly since I installed an application or something, as I don't remember it being there when I first got the phone, otherwise I would have asked this question by now.
I've attached an example of what I'm talking about.
I've tried going into Text Input Settings and enabling / disabling Spell Correction, Word Completion (XT9) and Word Complection (ABC) (all off at the moment) but it doesn't seem to make any difference, and it's really bugging me!
Any help would be really appreciated!

Have you looked in the Swype settings?
Yeah, have looked there, even though this was happening before I installed Swype, installed it recently in the hope it wouldn't use the predictive text stuff (also as I like to use it, too).
It's not just with Swype, it's any of the text input methods, using XT9 or ABC input method seems to make no difference, nor do the settings in the text input options, or indeed swype input options.
Anyone? Anything?
Have you tried, on the keyboard, to hold down the 'ABC' button for about a second. If it turns green then the XT9 predictive words don't appear?
if you have advanced config on your phone, open it up, click on input, and you can set how many preditive words you get. exit, soft reset and you should be good to go.

I keep seeing people mention the ability to set the number of predictive words... but I can't find where to do this. I have a stock 2.13 ROM from TMOUS, with CHT running. Can you point me to the "advanced config" screen you reference above?
Thanks!
Advanced Config is a cab you install.
In Advanced Config, under Input, you should have an option called "Suggested Words" the default is 4, set it to 0.

[Q] Removing words from auto-save dictionary?

Is there any way to remove words that were auto-saved short of a factory reset? They are not in the user dictionary and I found some instructions that said long press the word will bring up a menu to delete that word but it doesn't come up. These are the words that if you have your settings to set to automatically learn new words, it'll automatically save them and not the specifically user added words.
It's words like "tha" instead of "the". Thanks.

Settings>Language & Keyboard settings>Japaneses keyboard settings>Words by learning>Delete saved words - OK.
Thanks. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it worked. The errors and saved names are still saved in the dictionary even though I cleared it out. Thanks though; never would have thought to look there. Could it be I had done something?
I have an X10a, flashed to the global generic (or world generic, whichever one is the correct one for the Americas) running 2.1 with build 2.1.A.0.435, rooted.

Thumb Keyboard problem

Lets say I'm typing something and the last word is "end." If I hit enter to start a new line but then decide I want to add something to the previous sentence I would move the cursor back to the last word "end" and hit space... instead of inserting a space, it will insert the same word again "end"
So it looks like this "endend"
Anyone else have this problem
yeah i get that as well.
Yeah. Same here. It is annoying.
HTC Flyer / Tapatalk
I sent an email to the dev and explained the problem. He said he'd look into it. Do u think its fair to ask for a refund since it doesnt even work properly for us?
I'm having the same problem with Thumb Keyboard, I also installed Swiftkey X for Tablets and it has the same issue. Did anyone find anything out on this?
are you guys talking about in the notes app. because I get the same thing but only in the notes app. for example I typed this using thumbkeyboard and tried to replicate the issue and didn't have the problem. but when I typed this in notes I did have the problem.

I too am only having an issue with the notes app. When I tested in gmail, the browser(in a contact text field), in evernote and all worked fine.
I can confirm the issue happens with swiftkey x
I also tested it with smart Keyboard pro and I didnt experience this issue.
Man, there is nothing more annoying than seeing the question you are thinking of, pop up almost word for word on google....then seeing that the only responses are "I am having the same problem!" Come on, so NO one knows how to fix when you are typing, and (for example) want to add a letter to the middle of a word, like you want to add a "E" to death, and the cursor automatically goes to the end of the word instead of actaully putting the letter where you want it.
Does ANYONE have a clue what settings the Tumbkeyboard needs set to in order o not have the cursor jump to the end of a word?
I gave up on thumb keyboard... really made typing difficult with the double words. Kii keyboard is where it's at now.
i'm the same issue
That's strange : I don't have this issue with mine (SwiftKey X tab last version) !
