Xperia S ICS Build.Prop - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Ok guys, since we had root now, anyone tweaked their build.prop for battery and performance enhancements?
care to share?:good:

Most, if not all, build.prop tweaks range from useless to making it worse.

ok sounded cruel...apparently im leaving it stock till someone got an idea to further our xs...

A few of us have commented on stuttering when using blue tooth and playing music. Edited the build prop in regards to the dalvikcache as someone else suggested and it works much much better now, very little stuttering occurs

Dalvik heap size from 256 to 128
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium

From my testing, the solution isn't just within build.prop.
1st, within build.prop
- Maintain dalvik.vm.heapsize=256m
- Comment out "dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit",
e.g.
#dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit
- Change "dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y" to "dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y,v=n,o=v,u=n"
NOTE: Minus the ""
- Add dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
- Reboot into recovery > Clear Dalvik-cache > Reboot > Let it rebuild
2nd, init.d script, running this kernel will do.
- Insert the included script from this post to /etc/init.d
- Reboot
- Woala! Let me know how it goes
Dalvik fix was from here, credit goes to them, attached script was edited from KA09 Rom here for my own usage. Make sure you extracted the zip file before moving vmtweaks to /etc/init.d folder.
NOTE: If you are running KA09, do edit 06vmtweaks in init.d to these settings WITHOUT PLACING ATTACHED SCRIPT TO INIT.D FOLDER!:
echo "10240" > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes
echo "1" > /proc/sys/vm/oom_kill_allocating_task
echo "5" > /proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure

Is that for bluetooth music player fix?

This is to fix stutter from music and video playing with ICS rom, you can give it a try and let me know how it goes, it did well for me.
EDIT: If you are running KA09, do edit 06vmtweaks in init.d to these settings:
echo "10240" > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes
echo "1" > /proc/sys/vm/oom_kill_allocating_task
echo "5" > /proc/sys/vm/vfs_cache_pressure

Any feedback?

I'm away for a week, but I'll definitely be trying it when I get back!

The vmtweaks file?
Do you unzip and just copy it into etc/initd or do you flash the zip with cwm? Or does it not matter?

Same playback stutter over blue tooth for audio/video. It's much better for audio since I changed the dalvikheapsize but video is still bad.
I'll change this tonight and try it out for a day or two and feed it back
Sent from my LT26i

I still get stutter :-( just no where near as bad!

Excuse the slightly unrelated post, but I feel other people like me might find this same thread looking for the exact same thing. I'm trying to get a copy of a Sony Xperia S build.prop file. I want to access the Call of Duty Zombies game which is exclusive to the Xperia line. The ro.build.fingerprint line might be enough, but a copy of the entire /system/build.prop file would definitely be plenty. Can anyone here help? Best of luck with your music and video stuttering though!

LauncherPro: Fix lag when returning to Home Screen

http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2652
Basically (Especially in GB) Launcherpro is forced to redraw every time you go back to Home. This slows things down.
So here's how we fix it:
Open a terminal, type su and hit enter (you must be rooted for this to work). Now go look and see if you have a file called: /data/local.prop
IF NOT, then type this directly into the same su'd terminal: echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 > /data/local.prop and hit enter, and then reboot.
IF YOU DO, have an existing file called /data/local.prop already, open it with a text editor, and add a line at the very end (if an identical line does not already exist) with this: ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 and then reboot.
If you don't think it helps and you want to undo what this command does, then either delete the following file (if you had created it by typing the command into the terminal): /data/local.prop or if that file had already existed, then just remove that line we had added to it. That's it, back to before. No skin off your back to try this anyway.
Again, this is from the LauncherPro forum, I just wanted to bring this up for anyone having problems.
Well I tried this, and maybe its just confirmation bias, but I do feel like it may have helped a little. I didn't have much lag at all to begin with though. Thanks for finding this hungryman

i'm on gsbv1.6 as well and honestly there is no lag at the homescreen ever for me.
It should be more noticeable when:
opening the app drawer
switching to home from other applications
For me personally, the difference in speed when opening the app drawer is pretty large.
I've noticed a lag but didn't give it much concern... I'm going to give this a try. If it really works, I'm sure I'll notice an improvement.

I seem to recall the developer of LP (fede ?) mention that (at the time) that functionality didn't work (properly). It certainly may have been fixed by CM since then though.

It certainly may have been. I posted this here because I don't keep up with CM changelogs.
I know that Fede/ multiple LP users have reported the problem. That's evident in the thread.
Glad this topic was introduced. I had just accepted this as a GB issue. I tried the lock in memory option through CM ... lag gone!!
You could also type in "echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop" (no quotes) to add the line to the end of your local.prop. It will still make one if you don't have one so the command should work either way.
I've been trying to recreate this issue and can't get LP to redraw. App after app; home comes right up like I never left it. Even after opening Adw ex for awhile, hitting home LP pops right up.
No eye deer.

That's separate amfetamine. If there's a fix to it it is not in LP, fede has already said it's an android issue and it can't be fixed on his end.
If the issue was fixed (it sure wasn't on mine, there's a noticeable difference) it was in some CM update.

Enable sound settings in stock camera app - root required

Okay I found a way to be enable the camera shutter option on the camera app. You have to be rooted and I used root explorer.
1.) Open root explorer
2.) go to System folder
3.) Enable R/W ability
4.) Hold down on build.prop and open in text editor mode
5.) Look for 'ro.media.capture.shuttertone' without quotes
6.) It will say 0 change it to 1
7.) Click the menu button and choose save and exit.
8.) Reboot - not sure if you need to, but I did.
9.) Open the camera app and click menu, settings.
10.) You will now have the option to enable or disable the shutter sound.
Pics provided. Please thank me if this is helpful.
Side note, there are a lot of options in the build prop, but the interesting part is there is a whole section for LTE settings, and it keeps refering to verizon wireless at least thats what I think VZW stands for.
It worked. for some reason when I first had my phone it made the shutter sound. Than somehow it went away. Now I applid your fix and I can enable it or disable it. Thanks.
Simply brilliant.
I've also noticed a ro.camcorder.videoModes=false parameter. Wonder what that does if set to true.
It requires a reboot, but it works really well. There are quite a few options in build.prop. Wonder if there are any other tweaks.

Awesome, even more options! I'll have to enable that as well. Also, root explorer automatically makes a backup of the original file so if need be, you can easily restore the file to stock.

Makes sense that they were disabled then.
But the shutter sound option was a great find. Never understood why camera phones needed that. There is no shutter so why does there need to be a fake sound? I know some old schoolers might like it and I don't mind it as an option, but why remove the option to enable/disable it. Stupid motoblur.

Re: add'l build prop tweaks I've found so far -
1) LCD Density setting *ro.sf.lcd_density"* (default is 240, you can go as low as 200 w/o causing conflict w/ system apps)
2) dalvik.vm.heapsize_48m (default is 48, can set as high as 64 w/o causing conflict w/ system apps, and as low as 32m). I'd personally leave this setting alone until development on this progresses, not sure how much of an impact this would have w/ stock kernel and other configurations. I put it @ 64m and ran w/ it for a few hours and noticed no significant improvements.

Ugh, stupid politicians making stupid unenforceable policies. Don't they have better things to deal with.
A determined pervert could simply do this hack or tape over the speaker with a thick cloth (like velour).
On the other hand, being able to turn off the shutter sounds have many very legit purposes. I personally use my camera to take pictures of notes during conferences and to take pictures of books in the library. Also, when I did community theatre, I would take pictures of my audio patchbay so I could check my hookups whenever we needed to change mics for whatever reason backstage during the show.
Thank you. Much better fix than "disable STREAM_SYSTEM_ENFORCED" solution.
Anyway to disable the beep sound and vibrate whenever I power down my phone?

Go into system/app with Root Explorer or some other file manager and rename your Camera.apk to Camera.apk.bak, now move the new camera.apk that you just downloaded here and place it in system/app. Change the permissions to rw,r,r and owner to 0-root 0-root. Reboot and enjoy. Just remember none of these steps will work unless you have a system write kernel installed. Elkay and DSB have provided those kernels for us.

Installed this while running ViperDNA 1.0.1.
I used the proper method (rename existing camera.apk to camera.apk.bak and put the new camera.apk in system/app and set perms to rw-r--r--, then rebooted) and the phone is hot booting endlessly... which leads me to think that its kernel related (although I'm using the kernel / boot.img that came with viper, which is dsb's stock sys write kernel). It's strange because that would lead me to believe that perms aren't sticking? Idk.

That is odd! Not sure if this matters, but did you change the owner permissions to 0-root for owner and group? Can't think of any other reason why it would be booting endlessly. Either the kernel sytem/write isn't sticking or perhaps the above permissions need to be changed as well. I think by default one of the two settings are already set at 0-root , but the other one is not, so you would need to do that.

[mod]Kill the Shuttersound

Hey guys,
there is this annoying thing with the RAZR HD, the shutter Sound.
You cant turn it off, you cant silence it and stuff.
I googled a little and found out that if you are rooted, it is quiet easy to turn of that annoying noise.
Just Download a root file manager
then go to /system/media/audio/ui
mount your system as read/write
then simply rename the file Camera_click.ogg to camera_click.ogg.bak
Thats it, you will never hear that sound again, unless you rename the file back to camera_click.ogg
so enjoy and have fun with your silenced camera

Yap you're Right, it is illegal to disable the shutter sound on phone cameras in some countries. Some countries even demand that the shutter sound gotta have some minimum decibel determined by law.
I don't got the country list. but i think u can find that by googling it.
The disable is on my phone.
Also if you turn your volume down, the shutter sound goes down with overall phone volume.
mute the phone and the shutter sound is also muted.

try not just to rename Camera_click.ogg but make the file with same name and silence inside.
Another option is too simply install another camera app. I don't intend to promote a specific app but I have recently installed jb camera+ and been quite happy. Probably other apps are just as good.
2 things I have noticed: much improved image quality (less noise ) and the option to silence the shutter! Try out the free ics app or similar and compare image quality to motos app. I was a bit surprised to see the difference. My phone is not rooted btw.

MOD>Manually Boost Volume for Speaker, Headset and Handset<MOD

GUIDE TO MANUALLY RAISE VOLUME
Must be rooted and have a file explorer installed. Each step has a corresponding numbered picture.
.......................................................................
I found that the speaker, headset and handset volumes were a bit too low for my damaged ears, so I decided to attempt changing it myself and it worked out wonderfully. (Same method I used on my N3) .......................................................................
I did this using Root Explorer, there are many out there you can use such as ES.
1) Navigate to System/etc. Scroll down to mixer_paths.xml. If using Root EX on the top right tick Mount R/W. If you dont do this your changes will not work or take.
2) Hold down mixer_paths.xml and a box with options will appear. Choose Open With. Then choose Text Editor.
3) Once it opens scroll down to the fourth divider line where you will see this:

Then you will have a bunch of small paragraphs. First one directly under the Play Scenario line is "handset", then "speaker" and finally "headset". There are others like dock, speaker hdmi and so on but I only changed those three.
4) In each of the 3 you want to change the "RX Digital Volume" values. Stock value for the handset is 81. Touch next to the 1 delete it and inplace put a 7. (I found that 89 is the limit on my phone before distortion starts to occur so 88 or 89 is fine also) Next is speaker. Do the same 81 to 87 or whatever you prefer up to 89. And finally headset. For this change both stock "80" values to 87. (Left and Right) Double check all four changes you made closely. If you change the values above 89 there is a chance you may exceed the limit and have issues like no sound for the specific play scenario.
5) Now hit your phone menu button and tick save and exit. This will bring you back to the mixer_paths.xml page, and if you mounted r/w as I stated in step 2 you should see this directly below mixer_paths.xml: mixer_paths.xml.bak. That is a saved copy of your original stock mixer_paths.xml file which you can delete the modded and remove the bak from the name and reboot to revert to stock if an issue occurs such as no sound. Great
6) On top right you should see Mount R/O this time. Tick that and if it doesnt change dont worry it sometimes doesnt, reboot immediately. Once booted up your new values will be implemented and speaker, headset and handset will be much louder.
If you decide to mod the values once again, the saved file with name .bak created will be of your previous setting not stock. It will override the stock saved file. So if you plan on doing more than once to get the best desired volume, after your first ever edit, hold down the file created with .bak in the name and copy it to you extsd for safe keeping. This will prevent you from posting I lost my original file can someone please post it here?
Looks like flashable zips for this mod were already posted by DustinTinsley in the Development thread. My fault I didnt look around before posting this. Mods please delete this thread as it seems to be unneeded. Thank you.

Thanks for this guide. Well done. I also prefer to do this manually. So to go back to stock, rather than restoring the original mixer paths xml file, can I simply edit the values back to 80 and 81? I backed up the original file as you suggested.

You can but the easiest way to do it is add the .bak to yhe modded mixer, then remove the bak from the saved one reboot and now your on stock sound and youll still have the modded in there saved just in case. Just be sure to tick mount r/w before you rename and reboot. Glad it helped you.
Got it. Also it makes sense that if the values are changed a second time the bak file that was saved will be overwritten. Found this on the thread for the volume boosting zip thread. I will give these a try too

Worked great for me. I'm rooted but without custom recovery so this was perfect!

Exactly...thats why switching the .bak between the two is easiest.

Cool man. Thats kind of who this is geared towards and also people like me who like to learn to do things instead of just flashing something and not having any idea what that flash just did to your phone.
This is awesome! Thanks, sshafranko!
Great Post

Lol I did it it sounds low what's the max it can be modified to? Jelly bean had distortion but I never maxed it out. What's the highest I can put it without messing it up?

im assuming it all depends on your phone. start out at 87 and put your volume up, if its distorted or sounds like its going to break something, then change the number down a little at a time till it fits your needs. my numbers were a little different than the OP's numbers.

What are you numbers if you don't mind me asking ?
Guys it seems like it varies a bit phone to phone. On my wifes phone I am able to go to 90 buy it distorts at full volume. So I backed it down to 89 and it is perfect for her. I tested it on 91 on her phone and it actually broke the volume. She lost the volume completely on speakerphone. So im pretty sure that on every phone therre will be a setting that is too high and brakes volume. I would stick to 90 as being the highest than work your way down until no distortion. If 90 is not loud enough than give it a shot on 91 or even 92. It may work for you but like I said 90 was max for my wifes S5. GL
@sshafranko do you know anything about the mic volume levels? I have increased mine as people seem to say i'm too quite (i talk softly on the phone) but i'm not sure if they are actually working or which ones actuall effect the in call volume as well as speakerphone mic volume. I notice there are two volume levels for some of the mics, an ADC2 and a DEC# volume. what is what there? Thanks!
