Quality should be the same..
but what may be a problem is that when u go to sell ur phone the next year or so, some idiotic noobish buyers will haggle simply stating the fact that since its not the "original korean" , it must have lesser quality n hence lesser resale value !
Atleast, Iv expereienced this with Nokia phones here in India, if its Made in Finland, its gonna command a better resale value..

There are also devices made in Brazil. Possibly all the devices sold in Central and South America are made here. Mine is Brazilian-made (I just checked!)
Not only all the manufacturing is supervised by Samsung, but also the entire project, specifications, production sequence, materials, etc. The display, PCB and chips are all made in a single place, and what varies is the amount of assembly each country applies to the device. One might be producing the S3 starting at soldering the components to the PCB, while another might be just connecting and screwing them together.
I highly doubt there is any (and I mean *ANY*) difference between them.

I understand your concern. Samsung has factories at several countries of eastern Asia. But all devices have exactly the same quality standards. I also bought one 10 days before from Rayashop in Arab mall of 6th October.
Hasn't any problem.

mine is made in china, gt i9308

well said ,
you actually said exactly what i meant ,
some idiots really thought that if its not from korea so its fake or less quality
same as if nokia not made in fenland ,, and thats due some models made in china and was actually less quality
and for me i would throw it in ocean or blow it up with dynamite but not sell it with low price , loool

Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100G

I had bought the Samsung Galaxy SII few days back, but unfortunately the model which I got was GT-I9100G instead of GT-I9100.
After making the payment I can to know that the phone is a variant of Samsung Galaxy SII. I didn't intend to buy GT-I9100G and I have been cheated for this by the company.
Following are the false claims by the company:-
1). The company claims that the processor is a dual core 1.2Ghz, though it is but the maximum processing speed is capped at 1008Mhz.
2). Nowhere on the packaging or on your website it is mentioned that the company is selling GT-I9100G. The website too states GT-I9100 model.
3). The camera hangs at times.
4). 3D performance is poorer.
I have paid a handsome amount to buy this phone and in no way I am willing to keep this GT-I9100G model with me. I am not concerned whether the GT-I9100G is the latest model or not. I want a brand new replacement of my phone(i.e. GT-I9100 instead of GT-I9100G) at the earliest.
I have been cheated & very seriously I will take the matter to the Court & to the Consumer Forum against the concerned person(s)/company in couple of days and a notice will be served initially regarding what I have stated above by my lawyer.
Samsung is silently replacing GT-I9100 with the GT-I9100G model without properly informing.
Following are the countries where GT-I9100G is being sold currently:
China
Egypt
India
Iran
Malaysia

Please take your pointless rant somewhere else. No one here works for whatever company you bought your phone from and no one cares that you bought the wrong one.
Also, this isn't the place to request new forums.
P.S. The fact the I9100G has a total of two custom ROMs and two custom kernels leads me to think you have absolutely zero chance of getting a dedicated section.

I guess they hoped you were as stupid as an iPhone user. "Well, we'll tell them the processor is capable of 1Ghz, but not put it anywhere in our adverts that we clocked it at 800Mhz"
Yes i accept samsung should be taught lesson for fooling and now a days the box says 19100 and inside its 19100-g.i saw a post in Indian section where one guy was able to find it with the firmware which was written very small. Its like you buy a brand new BMW and when you drive you come to know that its having tata nano engine.

But only a fool would do that and if their are more than one version of a product its up to the buyer to buy the correct product .If the box is misleading then you return the phone that very day .A bit of research would have shown that the G model is sold in some countries .
Let us know how you get on with the court but its 1/100 you dont go to court .

Yes, i agree with you. Me to same thing happen. i went to the shop and blindly purchase s-2 i didn't noticed the model number. after 2 or 3 days i noticed that my mobile is some thing different than original one GT-I9100. I called up samsung support to change my device with GT-I9100 but they said it is not possible. I don't know what to do? It is a same cost as GT-I9100 ?
My mobile always hang-up on camera function, i am looking for a fix for my camera problem. Anybody can help on this.

G is a trick for cost saving by samsung
yes, it is a cost saving program by samsung .. less price,, low features.
but custom roms are always there to make it better,, look for one and get it on..
No. I9100G replaces I9100 everywhere. Of course some old I9100 are still in some shops, for the moment.
Why produce the I9100 in a Samsung factory if it is cheaper to buy the I9100G soc and sell it as a SII at same price of a I9100?
The Samsung factory has other stuff to do (produce the SIII).
Same here!!!

Me too havin' the same problem. But it's right, you can't replace it now as it has been discontinued. I also did call the Customer Care. They say there's no difference except that the GPU is stronger in the G version . G only describes the modified parts.
Ya, GT-I9100 is of the same cost.
For the camera function - my camera says, 'camera failed' after clicking 8-10 pics - I think it'll solved in the ICS update. After restarting the phone, it again starts to GRANT US THE HIGHLY VALUED PERMISSION OF CLICKING 10 PICS.

I own a Galaxy S II (GT-I9100G). the following is my opinion based on the research I did comparing the GT-I9100 and GT-I9100G.
As per the knowledge I have on GT-I9100G, I don't think GT-I9100G is of a substandard. although both have different firmware and chip-set, performance wise both are more or less same.
Also GT-I9100G is a latest version of the device where some of the problems present(eg: overheating and battery drain) in the GT-I9100 were addressed to some extent.
Based on the performance benchmark done by Indepebdent people, both the devices are performing more or less same.
the difference between the Samsung exynos chip-set(GT-I9100) and TI OMAP4430 (GT-I9100G) are theoretically the first one can achieve a clock speed up to 1.5GHz and second can achieve to a max of 1.2 ghz( and limited to 1.08ghz in GT-I9100G). But according to many users, there is no explicit performance lag because of this difference. Also exynos is a brand new chipset from samsung where some problem may exist but TI OMAP is a well tested established one, so GT-I9100G can be more reliable.
The only drawback for GT-I9100G are , there is not much custom ROMS for the latest model(GT-I9100G) and there is no easy method to root it compare to GT-I9100. I think this will change in course of time as more and more GT-I9100G devices are in customers hand. Based on the countries GT-I9100G was sold, I think at some point of time GT-I9100G is going to outsell GT-I9100.
I think if ICS is released for GT-I9100 in the same time it will also be released for GT-I9100G.
Be satisfied with your Galaxy I9100G

I think SAMSUNG is not officially Differentiating when they are using the term GALAXY S II for the both GT-I9100 and GT-I9100G. So any new updates that is available GT-I9100 will be made available for GT-I9100G.
New thread for the I9100G users
Added a new thread for this G variant in the General discussions forum plus having a poll.

Ya! But I think there can be a delay. The G variant has different kernels since its CPU and GPU is different. But I don't think that matters as models like LTE and Pocket are also getting the updates.
At most, our G can have one or two days delay... At least, I think so!
i warned all my friends who were interested about the G model
a friend on mine called me when he was about to buy i9100g and i told him to look if it says G and refuse it and demand i9100
good thing i bought my i9100 before g model was introduced
Hi,
i am new to this forum I recently switched from my HTC Desire with MIUI ROM to the Samsung Galaxy S2, which is unfortunately the 9100G version of the phone. I was hoping that the ICS update will arrive on the G Version to, but it seems that is not the case.
On sammobile.com, there is even no mentioning of the todays ICS update, the same with samsung-updates.com.
I searched this forum very deeply, looking for 9100G posts, but there is just no reliable info if the ICS update will ever be released for 9100G.
Manye users here say "yes", but no one has some kind of "proof" ?
I've postet this in the big "official ICS" thread already, but I guess it was the wrong place
Thanks in advance.
Dusko C.
I got a I9100G from Expansys at first. I thought I had to do a return because I didn't like it, but then I realized that the specs for the i9100G is wrong so you could use false advertising claims to get a refund.
They apologized and sent me a real i9100. Yay!

Is the Galaxy S2 Still worth buying now?

Hey guys I need some advice. I am still wondering if the i9100 is still worth purchasing. I can get it brand new for 320 dollars here on Canada. While on the other hand, the galaxy S3 ranges from 500-600 dollars. Google doesn't even sell nexus devices in Canada yet? How future proof is the S2? Is the S3 really worth 200-300 more dollars? Thanks guys!
Bring the seller down to $300

Everything, literally, is different between them.
Presumably you've never compared them in use, or indeed on paper...
No. (You asked).
I've compared S3's screen with my current S2's one and i must say id much prefer the S3's :good:
The S2 has more in common hardware wise to the Gnex. So the answer to your question is yes it is still worth buying.

Im recieving my i9100 (after getting my i9100g replaced) on monday. Is it worth keeping the i9100 or should i sell it and buy the GS3?.
The market price of the i9100 in India at the moment is 27k and GS3 is 37k.
10k rupees = $181.
Also if i do sell my phone i can expect to sell it at 27k right since it will be brand new and the box sealed
in its price range Galaxy S2 is still among the best phone you can buy.
obviously S3 is much more advanced and all but its quite a bit costlier than S2and shouldn't be compared . Although personally i think S3 is way too big and single handed use of S3 is impossible .
Go for it. It's an awesome phone for the price. The s3 seems to have issues. Look at all of the people selling it already. The s2 just started being re sold commonly, because everyone liked it so well. Im keeping mine.
It's all a matter of personal preference and whether or not you actually NEED the S3 or if the S2 will suffice.
Do you need HD screen? Do you need quad core processing? Do you need NFC? blah blah blah
I still haven't bought an S3 because for now the S2 hasn't stopped me doing anything, It can play any game I throw at it, even high end games newly released, I can watch movies, surf the net, capture photos and videos and even make calls!!
For me the S2 is still an awesome and powerful phone (might I add MUCH nicer looking than the S3 also) and I think it will last me easily another 6 months, by then a phone even better than the S3 will be released
Ask yourself if you need to fork out the extra money and if the answer is yes, go for it!
Just buy the S3 or buy the S2 only if you can get it for around 200-250$, I recently bought one for 200$. Btw try to get the international S3 because the north american isn't worth it over the S2 it still lags a bit while the international one there's no lag because of the much stronger gpu.
Get it. I bought this i9000 galaxy s to replace my old gio which was really slow and had no development. Even this first gen galaxy s is totally future proof so I imagine that the s2 is even better.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
I got the S2 3 weeks ago for free, I don't regret it. If you can get it for cheap, go for it, there is a lot if development made for it.

Hi i guess it comes down to ur preferences. There are guys/gals who want to be on the edge of hi tech, and there are others who prefer good performance/price ratio.
S2 is a good phone, it probably has one or two years more market life.
Compare S2 eu/S3 eu:
faster camera
about %20 faster processor with quad and better batt consumption, about double pixel count
about %25 bigger screen,
about % 25 bigger battery,
Nfc support,
Wireless charging,
Much butter sound chip
u decide if it justifies double price
I'am using s2 and I'm not really planning to change yet. i hope prices will drop a bit, or a revised version with better spec and eu compatible

[Q] Is purchasing a Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 advisable now?

Hello..
I have zeroed in on the Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 phone as my next upgrade and would like to get it off US Ebay. (Basically a mint pre owned piece.)
I am from India and hence i have few queries.
1) Is there any chance the Exynos chipset might not be present in any random Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-i777 ?
I remember its counterpart phone in India also had an alternate version. Hence want to confirm.
2) What's the scenario regarding the service carrier maligning issue? I heard about it few weeks back.. no idea about current scene.
I am basically looking for the US counterpart of SAMSUNG I9100 GALAXY S II, which was released here in India.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3621&idPhone2=4130
Pls do excuse me if i missed out on threads regarding above posted question..

Answer his question or don't respond.
1. If it doesn't have exynos chipset, then it's not an I777
2. Talk to your local carrier, we can't provide you this information
If you find out the other information and decide the I777 will in your area, I'd wait a few weeks. The used prices will probably go lower with the Nexus 4 release.
@jthatch12
Thing is, this phone was never released in my country. So i can only glean as much info possible via user response, regarding the gen scenario on the whole. Hence i asked
I ll try to seek the second query's response by more efficient / diligent searching.
Thanks for the part 1 of the reply.
@Sledutah
Yea, i plan to purchase ~next month. Hence getting all the info by that time.

If you're going to spend ~$250 for a phone, why not just spend a little bit more and get the state-of-the-art Nexus 4?

I honestly did gave it a serious thought.. but:
1) LG brand is holding me back.
2) Limited storage/No mem card slot (something which does irks me)
3) It ll be glass on both sides. More chances of the compulsion to use it in a case.
4) I am not too big a fan of massive screens.. (barely convinced myself to go wee bit beyond the 4inch real estate)
India uses GSM so it'll definitely work with your carrier, I'm from Kenya and I used the phone without any issues, only thing is when you do get the phone you'll have to downgrade it to Gingerbread in order for sim unlock tools downloadable from play store to actually work, as most that are sold are. Also AOSP is full of issues if you plan on flashing CM10/AOKP but Samsung ROMS should perform beautifully and with expected 4.1 its a good buy, though I sold mine for Nexus 4

You already got many responses from others, I just chip in a bit.
1. If it's legitimated product made for AT&T, then it is, would be, have to be Exynos.
As for the counterfeit part? Seriously, nobody know. We just simply cannot check.
2. Depends on your end, if it has GSM network then it would work, however, depends on the frequency they operate, you might only get 3G speed and not take full advantage of the 4G (H+) one.
@votinh
err.. no counterfeiting thing.. i mentioned counterpart
Thank you for the other valuable info in your post.
We have two versions of S2 floating in India. One has the Exynos chipset, the other ( i9100G) seems to be having a slightly inferior SOC.
While purchasing here, one can be aware of the model no for both G as well as non-G with due diligence and adequate research regarding the stickers on the box mentioning the details. The G model does have a noticeably weaker GPU in the form of SGX 540.
I got concerned after hearing that the model i9100G does not have too much love from the development community simply because it is not available widely & in most territories (it probably is only available in asia pacific countries only)
To ask another query.. and this might be vague..
What's the future of the S2 phone.. both in terms of official and custom ROM releases..?
It surely has the firepower under the hood to go some decent distance i think.. but with all these quad core based phones now making an appearance.. will the official rom be made to order for advanced configurations..??

Seems to me, the S2 is on its way out, if it hasn't already been officially discontinued. If I were buying a new phone, I would get the most recent model possible, because the rate at which new models are introduced.
Also, what is your discomfort with LG?
Honestly the Nexus 4 is a scrub phone compared to the i777
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
something worth taking note... is the i777 can take a serious beating. much more than any other phone i have come in contact with. it will scar and mar. the metal band will take on some serious gashes and the screen will stay unharmed. it is the only reason i still have this phone and have not upgraded.
that being said... if speed is what you want, buy something else. this is 2010 tech after all.

how many more months do you think it will take for a Chinese company to become No1

I am sick of the Korean domination of the Android market with the crappy hardware and bloatware and slow update and high price.
The Chinese companies are coming up with much better hardware this year at CES, and will probably able to dominate the Android market share very soon.
When will we see a repetition of Lenovo's domination of the pc market in the smartphone market?
Keep ur inter - national hatred to urself...
What we need is just any company which can provide phones with latest tech, best price, better user n dev support...

any chinese (or wathever other country) group that becomes as big as the korean's ones will also become as bloated, money hungry and slow moving, that's pretty much the rule.

ZTE acquired about 4% of global mobile phones market and took 4th place of biggest phone vendors. So people begin to understand that for the lower price they can purchase an Android-phone with better hardware and with the same quality (as Korean phones that are produced in China )
Well, as much as I hate Korean domination, I would hate Chinese domination of the market even more. I wish that America had some phone companies other than that company we all love to hate - Apple.

I completely agree with the above comment about source code. The chinese companies, for whatever reason, refuse to give out source code, even for the GPL'd kernel. Being #1 in the android world means respecting all the licenses for other peoples' work that you are using in your product. Until the chinese can get that through their heads, they will never be top of the food chain.

apple is made in china.
motorola is as US-based as apple.
some chinese factories are utterly awful places. read up on foxconn. one or two degrees from slavery.
but nationality has little to do with corporate beaucracy. thats a structural problem associated with hierarchical organization (i.e. the peter principal) that sees no borders. jingoism is stupid.

Bloatware Source
Samsung will have the marketshare for awhile. Everyone is looking at the S4 now. Also most of the bloatware doesnt come from the manufacturer. That gets loaded up by the carrier (AT&T VZW). International phones dont have the bloatware.

[Q] Are chinese Android phones reliable/good?

I've been visiting dealextreme.com and found some pretty good-looking Android phones for cheap. The problem is, well, these are chinese no-name phones.
Their specs seem to be pretty good. I won't lie. But to be honest, they seem too good to be true.
What I'd like to know is: Are they any good?
Look at the N6300 MTK6589 and the JIAYU JY-G3 MTK6589T in dx.com, for example. Their price tag is pretty low, and the phone looks great. But the thing is: Will they last, or fail quickly?
Also, I found a good deal on a used Sony Xperia Go on Latin America's eBay equivalent (MercadoLibre). For about $160USD.
Which phone should I pick and why? What opinion do you have about chinese Android phones? Would you trust these phones for your daily use? Would YOU buy one of those? Or should I just buy the used Xperia Go?
I live in Mexico, so getting a smartphone for $199 + contract is pretty much impossible here. They still cost an arm and a leg even under plan.
To be honest I've gotten knockoff Chinese phones before...some can be really good but keep in mind there's really no rooting or development for em and you'll stay pretty much stock on it...hence a big reason they stay cheap...blu is a good decent brand..id go with a more name brand phone if you want that and there is places like eBay you can get a good phone pretty cheap

So I'd be better off buying the used Xperia Go? A safer bet, I guess.
I Own the Cubot GT 99 , 140 USD for 4.5 inch 720p , quad core 1.2 ghz, 12,6mp camera and performs like galaxy s 3 in numbers. The problem with Chinese phones is that they have a cpu brand called mediatek and everything is closed source. So no roms, you can find miui and/or lewa rom, but you have to search. For example my phone, Cubot, is a rebranded xyz x1, and roms like miui are available (I can install 2 day old miui). BUT , unless things change, you are v stuck with the same android version it shipped with, 4.2.1 for me... closed source sucks... and of course no cyanogenmod , also gps is the worst thing in those chips, lock time about half day !
Ya go with the xperia

Can the Xperia Go be upgraded to 4.1, 4.2 or 4.3? I don't mind if it needs CyanogenMod.
Lol, I remember the first time a friend gave me a plum mobile phone for free, three words piece of ****. The god dam phone had only 300 mb ram and 1.0 GHz along with its disgusting screen material and display, not only that but the phone lagged so hard every time I clicked on a app, some process had to end. You can visit the site by googling plum mobile.
Most Chinese android phones aren't reliable/good but there are a handful of companies that make high quality devices like Asus and more.

It really does depend on the brand, I haven't ever used one myself but friends of mine have tried some out. The bigger brands like Huawei or Xioami are totally legit but the lower ends are pretty much guaranteed to be broken garbage. Still, it's certainly viable to go Chinese.

Yeah, like Jiayu is good and Star is pretty good now too. I think chinese really (like under 50$ or MTK6589 for 100$) are garbage. For example big comapny - ZTE has a model V967S which costs on alie 130-135$ with shipping. It's very cheap for that kind of phone.

100 $ or less Chinese mobile phone, you'd better not buy, there is big quality problem.
depends
Huawei, ZTE and most of other big brands works very good, but unknown brand will usually means problems all the time.

just thought I would add in that the Cubot gt99 is great.. really solid build, great screen etc. but as someone said, you are currently stuck with the version of android delivered - 4.2.1. to which I don't see a problem with for a phone with such great specs for such a cheap amount.
there do seem to be a lot of 'copy' phones , eg the cubot one.. these, from my reading don't seem to far so well.
I've stuck with cubot and alongside the gt99 for the wife, which I have seen for less than £100 (- potential import taxes) I've ordered a cubot t9. have to see how it goes.
I am hoping that they will release the source in due course, they are supposedly thinking about it as per the cubot forums.
one thing that really impressed us was the built in to the design replaceable screen protector. when you get it, there is one in place that you can hardly tell, much nicer idea than the after thought stick on top. It is nice and thick too.
Using a Jiayu G3 phone for more than a year. First, there are MANY Chinese companies with hundreds of different models so it's hard to say something common about all of them, some are better than other. I have no complains about my Jiayu after one year quality is good, design is good screen is good. It was $200 when I bought it you can still buy a variant now probably $50 cheaper now.
What is common:
Most use Mediatek SoCs. They are not on the same class as Qualcomm or Exynos but they have for some time Quad core A9 and A7 based and the Octacore A7 just start appearing in some phones (gets about 30000 Antutu scores so not bad for the price).
Mediatek supports dual SIM so all Mediatek based phones have dual SIM (very popular in China).
Now, be careful. All phones have Quad band GSM (2G) so they will work in any GSM based network, but the 3G will most likely not work (may be some small networks in Europe which works). They do not have yet LTE and when they will have may work just in China. So if you need data , forget the Chinese phone. If you use it for voice only, just make sure (in US and Canada) that your provider supports GSM for 2G (it's not one of CDMA ones).
also most phones will hardly get any updates, so expect that what you get is all. Some bigger companies will offer updates and you will find a number of custom ROMs (MIU, Lewa) but if you don't speak Chines you will need to spend a lot of time using Google translate). Rooting is not a problem however, I did not hear about any Chinese phone which could not be rooted, and if you stay with more common brands and models you will find custom recovery besed on TWRP for them.
You can get a quite decent phone either 720p or 1080p with good screen and very decent performance in the $200 range, if you are good with the limitations above.
You can get higher end models with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (or Tegra 4) but you will be in $500+ range which gets you in the big brands range.
In conclusion:
Buy one only if you use it for GSM (2G) voice. Forget if you need 3G or 4G.
Don't buy the very cheap no name ones, I would stay with $150+ for a decent phone. For most, in this price range or higher quality is not a problem, but higher you go in price more features newer SoC, more memory, better screen more recent OS you get.
You can get models which will be at least as good (or better) than brand names if you go to $500+ range (but you will still not have 3G and 4G, and will have less community support, at least if you don't speak Chinese so think twice). If you only use the phone for voice and WiFi for data, however this models could even be one step ahead of brand names ( it looks like VIVO will be the first phone with 1440p LCD).
A good tip I can give is spend as much time as possible to check out reviews about the phones.
At least, that is what I did for my Inew.
When I saw the phone was almost everytime in the top 5 list of the "most sold" or "most popular" phones, I thought those people can't be wrong.
Also, check some reviews for the brands, although there are a lot of brands, it is easy to see which brands are preferred.
