Cant browse when plugged into USB - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Okay, so this seems like it will be hard to explain..
When I connect my prime to my computer to transfer files or whatever, it totally becomes unresponsive when navigating/moving files. One minute I can easily browse to lets say.. The camera folder on my prime, then try and refresh or move a folder out of it, it will take forever to actually do anything, like if I refresh it will search for files and not actually finish and find any, even though I was looking at them a minute ago.
I tried to move a video file to an SD card on my prime and left it for about 10 minutes, the bar didnt move at all so I cancelled it and tried to refresh the folder, and nothing is coming up, just a blank folder with a loading bar at the top.
Anyone else get this problem?

It's related to Prime's slow read and write speed. It's normal behavior for devices that use cheap components.

Are you sure that the files aren't on a storage media that unmounts when you connect the prime via USB. Like for example connecting a device as disk drive to the computer, it firsts unmounts the external sd card from prime then mounts via USB and when you eject it from the USB cable it says preparing storage?

[Q] Windows complains about SD Card

Whenever I do a USB file transfer to my phone, Windows complains that there may be a problem with some files and offers to scan and fix the device. Should I let it, or just keep ignoring it?
Running CM7 on the phone and Windows7 on the pc, but it's been doing this for a while, even back on CommRom.
The reason it does that's is because either a) thereis a problem with the SD catftot b) you ate not ejecting it properly from your computer whenever you connect your phone to the PC. Most of the time the latter is the issue. You should let it run but also eject your device properly so you don't mess it up later

So I learned a very interesting tidbit about a year ago. The problem with flash memory is that if the power is disconnected during a WRITE operation, it will kill it (almost definitely). However, if you are only doing a READ operation (copy from device to computer, reading a TXT file, etc), then it is safe to pull the drive at any time.
The long and short of it is that After you have copied files to your phone, Windows continues to write excess data in the background, even after the file transfer dialog has gone away. And on my old mp3 player (Cowon S9) this led to many tears for a lot of people.
So always always always tell your family members who don't know the difference b/t WRITE and READ to simply ALWAYS "safely remove" their flash media.
Thanks folx, I'll let Windows have its way with the card next time it wants to.

[Q] Transferring files over USB - "device has stopped responding"

So I've been trying all night to transfer a handful of CBR files to my ATP through its USB connection. I'm doing this from my desktop which is running windows 7. (in case any or all of those details might help anyone)
At first, I was trying to transfer with the prime plugged into my keyboard dock with USB debugging enabled. Then I disabled USB debugging. Then I tried, with debugging disabled, when connecting to the tablet directly. Finally I tried connected directly to the tablet, but with USB debugging enabled.
At every step in the process I will get through one folder or so, and then get an error on my desktop that says the device has stopped responding or has disconnected, and the transfer will fail.
With a bit more trial and error it seems to be that any time I interact with the prime in any way while it is transferring (even something as simple as scrolling back and forth a little on the home screen to keep it from going to sleep) it fails.
I'm not rooted, I'm on the standard firmware (.21 - latest as of now), and I've tried restarting the prime.
I can not make these files transfer and it's driving me insane. Anyone have any suggestions or theories on how to fix this?
I was hoping that there would be a response, esplanation, or solution to your post.
I am experiencing the same thing when I try to transfer a Titanium Backup Folder back on to the Tablet, be it to the internal SD Card or the External SD Card.
I've also tried all the options you mention (Debugging ON/OFF, etc.)
Are we the only two people experiencing this?

File transfers
Hi,
I was having the same problems, then gave up and fully charged it,
the next day I adb'd the same blob file and it did it in 5 min, the
night before when it was about a quarter charged it was taking a half
hour and would fail. I had it in CWM recovery. So try fully charging it, I have
also had better luck on a xp machine, then my win7 machine.
I had the same problem on .21 not unlocked nor rooted.
I did full wipe data after upgrading to .21 then connected as MTP and copied files successfully. Hope this help.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using xda premium
not to put you off trying to use usb, i had the same issue transferring 5GB from the prime to PC.
i found using Total Commander 1.0 rc5 for Android with the network addon i could transfer it faster via wireless (only due to the poor performance i had with usb)
so just share the content and drag it across the wifi.
Total commander *www*.*ghisler*.*com/android.htm
Plugins *ghisler*.*com*/androidplugins/
(remove the *, i cant post links yet )
one thing you could try if you haven't is plug it into one of the ports on the back of your computer instead of the front/top/side, sometimes these ports are under powered.
I have this error when i'm trying copy file more than 4Gb to sd card formatted FAT32
might be silly to ask but when you connect did you make sure your on media transfer not the camera one?
This might be the reason. I hate it when this happens when I'm transferring files and I cant change or play with the tablet till its done. Its becoming more of a singletask device. I'm starting to lose faith in Asus tbh.

[Q] Transferring large video files to sd card from pc fails?

Hi all
I did try to search the forums, but was unable to find any help on this issue.
I can easily transfer small files from my Windows 8 pc via USB cable on the MTP protocol to my samsung galaxy s3. However if I try to transfer a movie of like 5GB it first of all it takes a long while before I even see the progress bar moving (minutes) and then when it does start transferring it seems slow and at some point something interrupts the transfer. I think it's some sort of locking mechanism or power saving feature, but I can't figure out what does it.
So anyway... the most important thing is to figure out why the transfer is interrupted after a while. Any guesses?
Furthermore is there some software for us who like to watch shows on our cell phone, where it's easy to get the next few episodes on our phone? Like something that can automatically detect that you've watched 2 of the 5 episodes on your phone, will automatically delete those and add another 2? And yes it would need to be in the correct order (like if I had episode 1-5, watched 1 and 2, then it should transfer 6+7).
Oh and yes the micro sd card is a fast one, with 45MB/s write and read and no I don't have a micro sd card reader.
I prefer to transfer large files via sd card, that is, removing the card from phone an inserting it in pc, and yes, it is a long time wait.

What file system is the SD card in? Remember if it is FAT32 files larger than 4GB cannot be used, you have to format it to exFAT to make it work.

Z5 Compact - Slow USB file access on Windows 10

On two different Windows 10 computers at home, I've had a bit of struggle trying to access the storage on my Z5C (running Nougat .376 UK firmware). I was trying to copy over some new music to the 200GB Sandisk microSD card, but Windows would continually hang and eventually give up even on just browsing folders. I could unplug the phone and try again but with no success. I popped out the microSD card and put it in an adapter and there wasn't any issue copying files over.
Anyone else ever notice Windows having difficulties accessing files on the phone? For what it's worth, I've almost always done firmware updates via Xperia Companion over USB without any problems, so it seems to be specifically related to file transfer/browsing.

make sure the screen doesn't turn off, enable developer options and check do not turn off display on charge
(i feel like MTP gets capped out at 20MB/s or something....from external SD --> internal bus rate??) for really really big transfers 8GB+, I usually remove my SD and use the SD reader, it should be OK if you have a good USB reader that can read the full speed of your card.
Sounds like a new USB cord is needed.
NeoBeum this is not really required to transfer files
*make sure the screen doesn't turn off, enable developer options and check do not turn off display on charge*
genuine?
try sd insight from play store see if ur sdcard is genuine
To all:
Is there a reason why not allowing the screen to sleep would help with file transfer speed back to a PC?
I've tried a couple different USB cables with similar results.
Card is genuine and as mentioned it transfers at full speed when using a SD card adapter and plugging in directly to the PC.

not really, no (don't really need to enable always on screen), but if some users have problems, i just recommend to do that so they can walk away from the tx, and come back without the screen turning off
the z5c has a tendency to temporarily turn off MTP when the display sleeps, you'll be able to tell, because the files on the PC - will contain 0 data, but still appear in the destination
at the moment i'm looking at MTP Host and the other USB services on the phone to see if it will behave better with battery optimisation disabled
edit: if the phone locks @ sleep, it will disable MTP, I have never successfully transferred while my phone locks itself, smartlock can be another workaround for this, unlock with PC

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try next time I need to copy files over to the phone (usually new music) and see what happens.

Galaxy S9+ SD & USB not working, can't get photos off phone

Hi,
I'm having an issue getting my files off my Galaxy S9+... it has some weird storage problems.
I cannot move or modify any pictures (or anything) on the SD card. It works fine in Windows.
I plugged in a USB flash drive, it doesn't recognize it. It recognized the same USB drive just fine a few months ago.
I plugged in my phone to my desktop via USB, it only says charging, no option for storage. I enabled developer options and selected USB debugging, but it still isn't working.
I reinstalled the samsung galaxy s9+ driver twice.
I installed Smart Switch from Samsung. This all worked a few months ago, same cables, same Windows computer, same drivers (before I updated today).
I plugged it into my Macbook, which I have done a few months ago, with the same cables, and it isn't making a connection.
My phone is on the home screen, past the lock screen.
I reset the Media Storage and External Storage system applications. Cleared data, force stopped, restarted phone.
I booted my phone into safe mode.
Any ideas on how to get my pictures off this phone? I'd hate to put everything onto cloud storage, it would take weeks with the wifi at my apartment.

If your usb c is not working how are you charging the phone? If your using wireless charging, you might consider taking it to a shop, let them check it out and replace if necessary.. Other than that, the cloud is you only answer.
Try a new usb cable.
Put phone on charge and Bluetooth (or WiFi) the photos over to a pc, however long it takes.
Try a new sd card to transfer the photos to (what do you mean it works fine in Windows ?, the phones sd card socket or system is faulty ?)
Email the important photos to yourself before they're gone forever.
In the future do regular backups !
It's possible the data connections in the USB port are damaged and the power connections are still good. I use wireless charging to reduce wear on the USB port.
I use an app called CX File Explorer to transfer files to and from PC SMB shares. Files can be moved or copied using cut/copy and paste. A share must be available on the target PC. There may be some public shares already visible or they can be created. It uses wifi but is not limited by internet upload speeds so it should be faster than cloud storage provided the wifi signal from the router is good.
Thank you everybody for responding.
I ended up inserting the micro SD card into windows and "repairing" it with the standard windows tool which asks to scan and repair the drive for errors. I was then able to transfer files from the phone's internal storage to the micro SD card. I'm not sure why this suddenly worked, because the same exact strategy did not work when I tried it earlier.
Photos are safe. Thank you again to everybody who offered ideas.
