Has anybody gotten the stock Google Gallery App to work? Or have a better alternative?

In my opinion, QuickPic is the best gallery app and it's free in the market.
Google's Gallery 3D works. The stock Moto gallery isn't actually bad if you use ADW or Launcher Pro to create a shortcut directly to the camera roll instead of that terrible landing page that shows when you open it normally.

Yes, I agree with skycamefalling - QuickPic is definitely the best gallery app and I've tried a lot of them.
I couldn't get the Google Gallery to install. Where did you pull the apk from?
I like QuickPic too but it doesn't pull in my Picasa galleries, and that's where all my pics end up.

I wish QuickPic supported accessing my MotoCast files. Til it does that I'm stuck using two applications.

Here's a Gallery 3D .apk that worked for me. Forget where I got it from, probably just searched for it once I realised the stock gallery was nearly unusable.
thanks! Worked great.

Does anyone have a hacked camera apk that allows you to link directly to gallery 3D instead?
Right now, if you try to take a photo with the camera and click on the picture, it says media gallery isn't installed. This is because i froze the moto gallery. I want to try and link the camera to use the gallery 3D for this instead.
Quickpic is my favorite gallery app.
I agree Quickpic is the best!
I prefer gallery 3d

I have another question which i find is not answered or I have overread: In the Folder "All Pictures" can I hide the pictures that I don't want to see? I have some apps and stuff on SD and all those pics are showing in this folder (and these are lots..). And is it possible to add a folder for the cam pics (so the cam pics are actually added when taken instead of going to the "All pictures" folder?
You can add a separate folder inside your picture folder (give it a name like "Private") with Astro (or some other file program) Inside that folder add another empty folder and name it .nomedia
Add the pictures that you don't want to display to the "Private" folder that contains the empty .nomedia folder.
Your gallery app will scan the folder, and any folder that contains a file with the .nomedia tag will be skipped.
The only downside is that to view anything in that folder will require you to either delete the .nomedia file, or you'll have to manually view the files in Astro or some other file explorer.

Can this be done using the STOCK gallery?
Sorry, please ignore.
I've tried using an app called Nomedia, then clearing Gallery cache and rebooting the phone, but that hasn't worked.
There's (PC) apps that embed the album artwork into the .mp3 (look for ID3 editors), that way you can delete the .jpeg from the folder, that should solve the problem.
Not sure if this will work for .ogg/.flac/.etc
Is there no elegant way to do this? Not being able to exclude folders from the gallery seems like a missing feature.
Another example of why I prefer quickpic to the stock gallery either in the s3 or in any phone I've yet owned

Just change the name of the album art pic to AlbumArt.jpg and gallery will ignore it. Plenty of play store apps are available to automate the process.

Wouldn't this prevent the media player from scanning the folder for songs though?
Hey guys, I'm having issues with the gallery in epinter's CM10 rom. I've done some searching and it seems like other people's is working but everytime i open it up it shows no pictures. I've cleared its settings and cache but it still shows nothing. The only reason this bothers me is because it appears that Google+ won't instant upload pictures unless they show up in there. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using the 8-11 release but it gave me the same issues in the release before that. Also, I'm using internal storage with no sd card if that matters.

bump
Just download quickpic.
I've been using quickpic for several months now, but Google+ uses the gallery app (from what i can tell) to share pictures and detect new pictures for instant upload.

I'm having same issue. Also no music. Tried moving files to external and back, format both cards. Nothing I've tried has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have this occasionally, but don't use G+ so it doesn't really bother me as quickpic always works. But to help with the question, I thought I read that when the Media Service is running, things like the Gallery, Maps, and a few other google apps (that use the service) might act like they're hanging, but it's because one of them is using the service. You could try force closing it, or let it finish on its own. Also, try clearing the cache on the media service/gallery/camera/maps. On occasion when the camera stops working on me if I kill the service it sometimes then starts working. This might not be the best option, but something to try.
im having the same problem... apollo dont recognize any music someone can help?
Well my camera has always been laggy on all 4.0+ roms even though some people say it works for them. Anyways, I tried clearing the data and reseting maps/gallery/camera but it still doesn't work. I'm wondering if the media service is actually just borked and I've been misinterpreting what other people have said.

Hmm.. gallery and camera worked for me..

Look for and delete a file named .nomedia from the base of which ever card you have these images or music on. I heard that this was something a ROM Manager update did.

I had the same issues with my pics and music. Looks like you've chosen reboot option from power off menu. For some reason after reboot pics and audio can't be recognized. Try to power off your atrix and trurn it on after few sec, this worked for me, hope will help you too.
Didn't work. Thanks anyway

Well I kinda figured out what's going on with the Gallery. It appears that a media scan won't show media already existing on the device. However, if you take a picture it will show the new pic in the gallery correctly. I've also verified that I have no .nomedia files.
I'm guessing that when a photo is taken it explicitly adds an entry to the media table, but there is a problem when a full scan is triggered which makes the gallery blank.

I had this same issue. Except, I did not delete the original gallery. I downloaded the ICS camera and ICS gallery from the play Store and haven't used the camera and gallery from the ROM. Works like a top.

Well I dont know what gallery you are using, but do like Tally said and get camera ICS from the play store. Its pretty much the same camera the ROM comes with.

I would SBF to to start fresh and play it safe. Flash your ROM and wipe your cache files. Then download your camera and gallery. Don't go deleting anything.
Also with your file browser, i.e. Root Explorer , look where your pics are stored and make sure they are still there.

If I am understanding this right, you currently have a working camera and a working gallery, correct? If this is the case, are you able to get to ANY gallery from the camera app? If so, and you are just wanting to change the gallery app it opens, then you need to go into your phone settings and select apps. Scroll to whatever gallery app it is currently opening and select it. Then tap on the button that says "clear defaults". After that, go into your camera and open the gallery from there. It should pop up with what app you want to open. Select the gallery you want and then tap "Always".
Thats the best I can do with what you are giving us. If nothing works, do like Tally says again and SBF and start over.
I think what he is saying is: The gallery preview, or last pic taken, in the bottom corner of the screen- when you click on it from the camera view....nothing happens or it comes up a blank gallery.
That's what my X2 was doing.

If thats the case, maybe its the app he is using. He said hes using Gallery ICS. I dont think thats the same as Camera ICS which I think is a direct port from the AOSP camera.
Casper, I dont know how advanced you are with this but you can also open up the zip of whatever ROM you are using and take the original gallery.apk and place it in system/app/ and change permissions to rw-r-rr-- then reboot
You shouldn't have deleted the original gallery so you have two choices 1fix in Rom zip very technical but not that hard with a little searching and research 2sbf ad the ics gallery then either freeze the other app or try to remove just make sure you nano before doing anything
don't be scared it's only a phone
