Hi guys,
At the moment i am dealing with the problem of my Samsung Galaxy S2 getting very hot while charging sometimes.
i downloaded an app to check the heat and it got over 54 Celsius thats about 130 Fahrenheit.
Are some of you dealing with the same problem that i am dealing with? Should i take it back to the shop where i bought it?
Greets Jay
Hi,
do you use it while charging?
Mine is about 41°C while charging (only charging) - highest temp i got while usage & charging was about 48°C. (2000mAh Battery)
Greetz
With me it's around 48 °C while only charging and from 52°C to 54°C while charging on use.
So i guess that it is pretty normal?

Seems so --- or maybe, our both devices are f**ked up
Normal?!

How hot does you're galaxy s2 gets while charging then?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Well.. I too have this problem. But I think it also depends on the room temperature.
If my phone is in the office, where the desk temp is maintained at around 20 degree celsius, the phone temp would be around 27-30 when charging without use.
At home if I charge, with room temp being around 30, the phone temp goes above 40.
Using the data connection, with screen On increases temp more, because the processor would be awake running at higher frequencies (stock max is 1200 MHz).
When phone is idle, the processor kind of sleeps, bringing down the frequency and hence the temperature.
If you are rooted, you can try underclocking the phone. App like SetCPU, for example, allows you to set profiles. So I can set a profile, which will reduce the max frequency from 1200 MHz to 1000MHz when charging on USB, 800 MHz when charging on AC supply etc. This will help in keeping the phone cool.
Regards
When I played GTA III while charging (CPU set to 1600-1600, governor performance, GPU 400 MHz 1100 mV), temperature was ~52°C.
I am having the same problem with the same phone, Android 4, I've opened a new thread, but no answer at all :-/
Hi , My sgs2 gets hot when charging but not very much . One thing that i noticed it get's very very hot while using some certain apps
like Refddit is fun . It gets very very hot
My phone once got hot when it was on charge, so I tried different kernels and the problem went away. If you're on custom roms ask what other users are on in the ROM thread. If your on stock I'd call phone providers help line as you may have a fault.

Anyone have a good estimate of what the max safe temperature for the armv6 cpu is? I have setCPU configured to throttle back at 46 degrees, but could that limit be safely set higher?

Curious about this too, I have mine at the default of 50 °C

What I was able to find out in the past was that a mobile phone cpu could safely reach up to 80-90°C. The motherboard and/or components on the motherboard can start to fail around 65-70°C. And for a lithium-ion battery it's best to keep the temp under 50°C for longevity, 60°C is absolutely going to affect battery life. I was never able to find anything specifically on the armv6 or where exactly the temp sensor is on the Aria. I have setCPU configured to throttle back at 46°C, and I have the charging profile throttled back because of the heat generated when charging.
Just remember that the temps being monitored are the battery temps. The aria doesn't have the ability to measure actual cpu temps.

Right, so the CPU could probably take higher, but it's the battery that's the limiting factor.
I think I'll keep the profile as it is now, by the time the battery hits 46 that's hot enough. Don't need my Aria bursting into flames from thermal runaway.

How hot is too hot for the processor? I live in Vegas and its 103*F outside. I have SetCPU set to max at 1728 with the interactive governor. I just took my phone out of my pocket and it was quite hot to the touch, and the SetCPU widget said it was running @ 1728 w/ a temp of almost 120*F. So i want to add a temperature profile to scale the cpu down when its getting too hot. So what temp should i use?
Tia.

Id say 105 should be hot enough.
Why are you overclocking
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
Battery's stated operating temperature is up to 140F (60c).
Having said that, the phone goes into protect mode (Flashing power light) at about 135.
Just remember, electronics laugh at temperatures that we cant handle. My 8800 GT ran about 80-90c (Giant ass high-end video card back in the day) under load and was just fine. Granted, the phone wont handle quite that, but it is probably laughing at 120F.

Cause he can, but I don't see the point in over clocking while the phone is sleeping. Usually you want to under clock while the screen is off.
i have had many phones go over and stay over 120 degress i would say if it goes past 130 alot u might want to do something about it.
I set my profile to scale down at 45 C, it only ever hits that for me if I've been streaming music on a long drive while charging.
Thanks for the input guys. Im try and get some better profiles worked out today.

61 °c! And you were able to still hold it! My phone is hard to touch at even just above 40 degree celcius

61c is insane....... you are lucky not to burn anything inside your s2.
What is the accepted max. temperature?

Well don't say that if you are not sure. 61°C is high, but no way you can say that as insane.
I was reading some articles about Cortex A9 CPU's and found this,
http://www.phytec.com/products/som/Cortex-A9/phyCORE-OMAP4430.html
So the TJ Max of the CPU is 85°C. But for safety you shouldn't let it go above 70-72°C.
But do remember one thing, that is the CPU temp I was talking about, not Battery temp as you mentioned. It's very common that Battery temp will get higher if CPU temp increases.
Regards.

Yeah, people see battery temperature, but 61 degrees seems pretty high. My battery didn't pass 48 degrees, even when playing complex games. A high temperature will shorten battery lifetime and there has been one report on this forum about plastic inside SII melting down cause of heat, but no info about the temperature that melted it.

Well the battery & CPU, both temperatures are also depending on the ambient temp. It is also advised to mention the ambient temp along with battery temp.
Regards.
Normally mine operates at 42-46. Maybe it's because I live in a tropical country. Once it got to 53 degrees celsius. Got kinda worried, don't know whether to take it back or not. Is this normal?

Guys,
After buying I recharged my phone once.
Now even when I'm simply listening to music and using tapalalk, battery temps are at 43 degrees celsius.
When doing back to back speedtests it went to 47 deg cel.
The lower portion of phone becomes hotter.
I'm really worried.
Can you guys give your battery and phone temps ?
Ps : use cool tool software.

I have no problem what so ever, played Dungeon defenders and GTA III today and it did not get more than 35 degree celcius. The phone do heat a bit up when it charge, but no higher than 35 degree... I did not play and charge the phone at the same time.
(however dungeon defenders did actually lag a bit :O, must be the game that is pooly optimised).
I tried stress testing the phone by playing an hd video using popup play and running shadowgun at the same time, and the battery only reached 39 deg. celcius.
I've setup some battery temperature warning events at 40, 44, 48, and 50 degrees and only my lowest one has ever triggered. Highest I've seen the battery is 42 degrees.
So you guys think its a defective battery ?
Or it needs 3 to 4 recharges to come to that optimal temperature ?

I think weather / room temperature play a big part here. In hotter environments phone temperature during idle or use would naturally be higher than in colder ones. Pretty sure it's quite warm in Bangalore this time of year.

you can better try switching off the mobile, pullout the battery and turn it on after a few minutes. also check the cpu usage, you may have installed some app which might be continuously running in the background

Did not workout. Issue still exists.
No background process running. No cpu hogs.
One more thing I noticed : the battery temp raises to 47 only when there is lot of activiy ln the chipset (either 3g downloads or cpu activities which causes it to clock at 1.4 ghz more often). Where as on sgs2 if i apply the same load its 35 deg. I tried it on sgs2 and measured the temp.
The battery temp most of the time is 40 deg, thats what bothering me.

M planning to return my phone because of this overheating.
Just 5 mins played the game and battery temp raised from 30 deg cel to 44 deg cel.
Suggestions pls.
Samsung dealer says that i've 4 days. Within 4 days if i find any problems i can get a letter from nearest samsung service center and upon seeing that letter he will immediately give me a new phone.
I do not know what will happen if i ask for a refund of money.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I changed the battery. Battery temp is well under 40 deg under regular browsing with music player playing in bkground.
Under heavy gaming under A.C. temp stays still at 40 deg.
I'm ok with these readings.
Now m gonna undervolt the phone also underclock cup and gpu and see how the temps turnaround.

sorry for the new thread
but its 7 months with the same problem
i know its quad core processor but its now a reason for 59.2°C only using whatsapp ,Fb , twitter ETC
even if power saver on
can u advice me what can i do with overheating ?

Which app did you use to underclock it
Sent from my HTC One X+ using xda premium
I used Tegra Overclock, couldn't get the other apps to make everything stick properly.
What's the ambient temperature in your city?
Now that it's over 36°C here my HOX+ (underclocked at 1.150GHz, no UV) is sitting around at ~35°C on idle and climbs up to 46°C with low or medium usage (but with data on). During the night temps are lower by two to three degrees and rarely goes up to 48°C even when gaming. Inside an air conditioned room (and, I guess, when winter comes) temps are down to 27°C to 33°C.
Start with underclocking, possibly undervolting, and if you have a case get it out when it gets too hot, it could help with dropping the temperature one or two degrees.
