The back button problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Frequently when using my phone starts acting like the back button is being continously pressed. Eg when in browser it keeps going back to previous pages or when on sat nav it keeps coming up with a message 'are you sure you want to cancel'.
I've got white version unbranded sim free and I've had this problem since I got it but starting to get annoying now.

Try doing a backup and change your ROM to check whether or not it's a software issue { I kinda doubt that }. If not, then you're going to have to get a replacement, afaik.

Hi that did help, it happens less frequent now but it still automatically presses the back and sometimes the options button simultaneously. I've flashed a few roms but the problem doesn't go away. Shall I return the phone despite the fault being intermittent?

Yes, return the phone, it is faulty.

So I return to Samsung or t mobile
I flashed the latest UK unbranded firmware, Do I need to put t mobile firmware back on the phone?

[Q] Please help! my i9100 dunno why suddently unable to turn on wifi

Please help! my i9100 dunno why suddently unable to turn on wifi, click wifi button it just stuck there.
It has happend to me occasionally... its when i switch from one wifi to another...like from home to work or vice versa...while being on mobile network in between...
i have had to restart the phone.
maybe a bug in OS... dunno
I can confirm that the same happens to me. Atr first I thought it was just me because of my custom rom, but after reading the above I'm not so sure anymore...
Anyway my solution was to restart the phone, it went back to normal.
First rule of technology: if something doesn't work, turn off device and then turn back on again.

You can also try making a full backup, doing a full wipe, then re-flashing your rom or even try with a different rom to see if the problem persists. Could also be kernel related, so you could always try a different kernel to test it.

Try to unplug your router for 10 seconds and plug it back in. Then forget the wifi connection and reconnect to it.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
No it's not a problem with anyone's router in this case... Wifi devices other than phone should be working fine as does in my case..
Fiddling with the router is a distraction than being root cause.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
have did a full wipe, wipe every thing! have tried different kernel different modem and also have restart my router but simply cant solve the problem.
I believe it should be hardware problem
Well if you tried everything, flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com, and send your device off to a Samsung Repair Centre. It sounds like a hardware problem after everything you have done.
Chris.

now i just worried about samsung may not want to give me a free of charge repair under warranty condition due to the reason that i have rooted my phone.
so now i have flashed back to stock rom and hoping that samsung wont mind lol
Make sure you remove your SD Card when you send it off, and just to be safe use a USB Jig to remove any traces of a custom binary counter and the use of Odin.

Using a JIG is a lot more safer if you aren't sure. Triangle Away can easily brick your device if you don't know what you are doing.

[Q] Do You experience Random Reboots on your S3?

ive had my s3 for 3 weeks now, its been rooted but still running stock rom. today i experienced a reboot when i received a text message and this is the third time, each time prior to the device rebooting it vibrates for a long time i.e maybe 5 seconds instead of 2 secs, has anyone had anything similar happen to them? or is my device faulty?
Never rebooted .
I would return to stock see what happens .
jje
Nope. Nothing like that has ever happened to mine.
Never rebooted using system Apps but plenty times with others, and that's the developer's fault not Samsung's.
I wonder if a third party app may be causing it? It only reboots randomly on a incoming message. I usually know it's going to reboot due to the long vibration.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Yeah have you installed any other Apps that can send or monitor received SMS?
Mine rebooted a couple of times in the first few days of use. (unrooted stock ROM)
Never had any since though.
My friend got an S3 2 days ago and he told me he's been experiencing random reboots !!! His phone is on stock rom and ain't rooted yet !!!

Only whatsapp, but I doubt that is causing it. I've cleared data in applications for the messaging app, so going to see if that helps, thanks for the replies, at least IM not the only one having issues, I read on another thread someone having similar issues when using the phone and a SMS arrived, his phone would freeze.
People that are not experience reboots are you using custom roms, and if so which do you recommend? If I have to send it back to Samsung, will flashing stock ROM and using triangle away prior to flashing ROM be enough to get warranty back again?

That means there's an App flashing something to Root and rebooting your phone, it happened to me with a cracked version of Rom toolbox pro so I uninstalled, and I'm not sure but that might add to your flash counter every time so you want to find out what's causing it.
Nope, mines been fine, even undervolted.
Ok I finally figured it out, it was nova launcher causing the freezes, using touchwiz no freezes when sms arrive.

I have had the long vibration then a reboot a few times, had my phone a few weeks too, rooted and running different roms, only been happening the last few days.
I have a flash count of 9, so nothing too heavy.
Unrooted and went back to stock and then rerooted and installed villainrom.
Just had my first reboot about 5 mins in.

Keeps restarting and viberating

Any idea why all the sudden the galaxy note will randomly shut off completly and I have to use the power button to power it back on, sometimes it will sit there and viberate and I have to pull the battery. Its running stock ics. And YES ITS THE att note. I'm sending this with my international note

Try a reset or reflash the rom your using. Ice hasn't been released yet officially for the note so you must be on one of the leaks. Try reflashing

Wow that's a new one in me. I thought read someplace that certain roms react this way if the battery get to low and you have to go into cwm and do a cache wipe I think. Sorry that all I got .

If phone is turning off in download mode I doubt it is the ROM installed. Have you tried swapping batteries?
Also the issue seems to ONLY HAPPEN WHEN MOVING THE PHONE! SO I dont think Its a doftware issue. I tried changing battries same issue. It stayed on all NIGHT last night. Then when I go to touch it this morning it restarts.

How about if you leave the charger plugged in? Hopefully you can get the opportunity to get it restored to stock and have it exchanged under warranty.
Edit: stuck power button maybe?

It does it with charger too. But ONLY really does it while moving it
I CANT get it to even turn on now, It will viberate and show samsung and then shut off
I can get it into download mode for a sec and it will flash and turn off
The power button got mashed a little too hard.
If its store bought, its a warranty issue.
If its Craigslist or ebay you have to pull the whole thing apart and reseat the silver button in the case correctly and reassemble.
I've come across a few phones that have this defect.
Hey Ranger, notice you spend a lot of time in what I call the "trenches" in the Q&A and Gen sections providing assistance and guidance. Where I like to hang out and since I have the Note now...and still providing to the Infuse 4G community...
You seem to be a resourceful individual, sir.

Maybe one of your cables inside is loose and disconnects when you move it? I would either take your phone apart yourself or take it to a shop to get it checked.

touch screen issue

hi
was wandering if anyone was having this issue,
for some reason now and again the touch screen stops responding no message shows on screen but to resolve i have to turn screen off n on and it works again, was hapoening on ee rom and custom rom
just wandering if its just me or a common issue
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
Have you had this issue from day 1?
My lock screen sometimes doesn't recognize my touch when I try to enter my unlock pattern.
I have to release and try again, I was thinking it was just me but could be an issue?
Aside from the lock screen everything else works ok.
Is it only certain parts of the screen or the whole thing? maybe take the phone back to the shop where you got it and get an exchange?
hmm yh the whole screen doesnt respond although it hasnt happened today tho but its wierd seems like a softwaee issue might try and flash a different rom and see how it is
Sent from my GT-I9305 using Tapatalk 2
From my experience, it's not the touchscreen but something hogs your phone CPU cycles for a brief moment. Have you tried going to stock and not installing any apps?
I similar issue on GS2 where whole phone freezes (although plays music in the background) and I thought it was touch for a very long time until I realized it was some ****ty app I installed (some tamagochi app I think)
I had this aswell found out it was when I loggers back onto my phone and it checked what as I had running .
I'm a big multi tasKer
try holding your center key and close any UN used apps
yh i agree, will try that next time plus monitoring apps in better battery stats

Hmmm i havent noticed anything like that... are you on stock? I was thinking it may b a software setup issue, As there are many things that can happen when you start modding your phone. But I have quite a few mods and I have not had this issue, I have Skype always on Tango, Viber, Whats App,Facebook, Ms Exchange Services, I have 6 Widgets in total spread out in 4 homescreen. 4 of those widgets Auto update. So I have quite abit going on in this little thing
does seem like a software issue happened again but 5 mins later was showing touches on screen wierd

Not had any issue with my screen and I am running quite a lot on my phone so if it happens with stock I would start to remove apps one by one or do a wipe and add them back one by one. Could be a hardware issue though.

What is it with you guys posting non dev stuff in the dev forum? thread moved to general

Galaxy S4 rebooting when I swipe to unlock

I got a brand new s4 in November. I get random reboots from once a day to multiple times a day. The thing is it always happens when I go to unlock the phone by swiping the unlock screen. It seems to hang and freeze and then reboots. I have updated the software to the latest MK2 and I am NOT rooted, although I plan to soon to uninstall bloatware mainly.
Is there any type of log or an app that will log processes running when this reboot happens? Since it always seems to be during unlock, I have a feeling there is an app that is causing an issue rather than a bum phone which I think would be just randomly rebooting all the time.
The only other times I've seen it reboot is when I go into they call screen to make a call, but that's very rare.
Jim

I had the same issue with my phone screen freezing and then the phone would reboot. Rather than go thru Verizon for a refurbished replacement, I contacted Samsung and sent it in for warranty work. They replaced a board and sent it back. Hasn't froze or rebooted again since the repair. Total time was about 7 days if I recall correctly.
