ICS keyboard notofication icon removal? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it seems that with ICS we have the annoying keyboard notification icon in the notification bar whenever a text input field is chosen?
can this be removed? i know its embedded in ICS and that removing samsung IME causes text input issues but its very annoying to see this icon flash up whenever a text field is chosen.
any ideas?

Only on CM9 based custom ROMs.

Modify the .apk and replace the icon with a transparent png

All you have to do is remove any third party keyboards(this includes swype) that you have installed. Or disable the stock one if you want to use the 3rd party one.

u can use do not disturb function in JKAy v14.0

For IME Switcher In framework-res delete "ic_notification_ime_default" image for IME..

It's possible but it can't be done by non developpers. I mean, you have to configure theme settings in android files to do what you want.
Anyway there are available themes on xda that add some functionality to the status toggles, you could look around. For example, the theme I'm using has 9 toggles on the status bar.
EDIT: I found this app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037817
It doesn't change the toggles that come in the notification bar (as I said you have to mess with android files for this) but it can make launcher's in the notiications panel. It looks pretty cool, maybe you should try it.

Possible to change the SMS icon from envolope to chat bubble ?

I don't know why the messaging notification icon is a envelope. I keep thinking I have new mail. Is there an easy way to change that?
Thanks,
BR

Probably the easiest is to install a 3rd party SMS app like Go SMS Pro or Handcent.
Otherwise you'll have to replace the icon in a .apk.
If you mean the app icon you could use a launcher like nova, download an icon pack and change any icon you want.

I think he means the notification tray icon. If not... that's what i'm thinking of. Almost never know whether it's an e-mail or text that i received, except that text messages give you that shortcut right on the lockscreen.
Go SMS

GO SMS Ugly Icon!

Hi,
I'm trying to replace the Go SMS Icon on the default Samsung lockscreen, I use Go SMS for default sms and I'm running Nova launcher so have changed the go sms icon to ics icon. But on my lockscreen the go sms icon cannot be changed, is there away?? I have tried a few ICS lockscreen but none work to how I want, either double lock screen or look awful!
Can someone shed some light on best way.
Thanks

AFAIK, the icon cannot be changed on the default lockscreen. Only the application. The only way I can see to change the icon would be to edit the Go SMS Pro apk and change the icon file to the one you want. This however will need to be done again after every reboot.
Another way would be to create your own small application with the Icon you want, and have that just directly open Go SMS Pro.

Thank you for the reply... Hmm that's a shame as I do like the default lockscreen just the Go SMS Pro app looks awful on there!
I'm not sure how to create my own icon, was hoping that I could copy the stock messaging icon and replace the Go SMS one in root...
Oh well will just stick with Holo launcher now!
Thanks.

i think you can decompile the apk, change the icon sign it and install it and it will have the icon you replaced by default. but its not such an easy process.

Hmm think I might skip that, probably end up causing more damage than its worth!
Thanks though..

If you install widget locker, you can customize the lock screen using any combination of icons-to-apps that you want.

my thought exactly. or any replacement lockscreen that supports it.

Hide a Notification Icon without Hiding the Actual Notification

Does anyone know if it's possible to hide just the notification icon without hiding the notification itself from pulldown?
Use case: Yahoo Weather app, the persistent notification in the pulldown is beautiful. I want it to always be there. However, the little temperature notification icon is pretty ugly, and I want to hide/disable it.
Using JB's "disable notifications" won't work since it will disable the entire notification, not just the icon.
Any ideas?
Maybe decompile systemui.apk or farmework-res.apk or where the icon is and turn it into a blank icon as in matches the background of status bar?
Or try to decompile Google now and dig through some xml files to figure out how they do it.
Off hand I can't say I've ever tried and don't have a great answer but may give you a start
