So I was out in Hammond, IN yesterday (about 20 min outside of Chicago) celebrating the 4th with family, and noticed LTE was live in the area. I did several speedtests and was pretty pleased with the results. Averaged about 16-17Mbps and topped out at 22Mbps.
If Chicago proper can consistently hold even half those speeds, once it's live, I'll be a happy man.
These tests were done indoors too, so it seems that 1900MHz frequency does alright inside.
I'm impressed.
Sweet i'm excited road trip this weekend!!!
I thought that Chicago was going to get LTE after all of the suburbs too, so that means they must be making good headway in this area. I personally cannot wait until I can pull down 10 Mbps whenever I need...

I'm familiar with s4gru, thanks. Yes, there have been LTE sightings in Hammond for about a month now. I was surprised to be connected for 8+ hours and pulling those speeds.

That's correct. They're moving outside in. So downtown Chicago will be the last part of the the Chicago market to get LTE.

The LTE radio doesn't really drain your battery, might as well leave it on. That way you'll know when you hit LTE.

I don't think any part of the city will start seeing any LTE until sometime mid-late August. Once they hit Evanston, Skokie, Calumet City etc., I think we'll start getting reports of people jumping on within city limits. Just my prediction though.

When I leave it on, it can't maintain a 3G signal when I'm at work. I've also found no statistically significant change in data speeds by turning "LTE/CDMA" off. Battery drain wasn't my concern, but I appreciate the response.

Where are you located if you dont mind me asking?
Do you know if network vision has rolled out to you yet?
Just got 2400 in North Dallass (Plano) but at 5 am so..
I got 1.8 megs down last night 3G near down town Dallas around 10pm.
This was in the suburbs of Chicago. Network vision is apparently live here

Very impressive! I can be quite patient with the LTE rollout if 3G speeds are that good.
Which suburb? I'm near niles/glenview.
Hopefully this will shut up the damn pessimistic low-data-speeds n00bies about Sprint's network never amounting to anything...
wait... who am I kidding
Mine varies a lot, even in the same location. Right now I am pulling around 500 kbps down and 100 kbps up each test,
Five minutes ago I was getting to 1.2 - 1.5 mbps down, 200 - 250 kbps up
must have hit one of those pockets earlier....

I'm still getting miserable speeds in central Minnesota.
im in south florida, a huge market, and sometimes in the middle of the day i cant get more than .15 kbps. absolutely atrocious. saw pictures of NV towers starting to pop up in south Miami.
In Philly with my OG Evo yesterday I was getting 1.7 mbps down, ~1 mpbs up on 3G. Activated my LTEVO today and was getting between 20 kpbs - 150 kbps down and 200-500 kbps up for a few hours. Pathetic. I couldn't load Google Maps or anything. Called Sprint to report it and got cut off during the call (never had time to call back). They said they were about to send an update to my phone. Guess that didn't happen. I'm getting around 500-600 kpbs down now, still 1/3rd the speed of 3G on my OG Evo.
Maybe I should have held off the upgrade...
With a 90ms ping I tried wireless tethering and was able to play games perfectly fine. Btw I'm in Naperville

Depends where you live. Were I live Sprint is the fastest of the big carrier's. I average 2.2mbps. Att here is just awful with limited signal.

I could see them using airaves in the stores. I have no idea if they do or not but i wouldn't be surprised.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Pretty hit or miss, it can be pretty decent or downright horrible. At work I get around 1.3mbps or near 2, but at home and a lot of other places it's painfully slow. I just ran the speedtest app and I averaged ~120kbps down, 200kbps up and 250 ping...
I think it's safe to say that you will get MUCH worse data speeds than what you're currently getting. Your signal strength should be on par though, and you won't have as many drop calls.
Besides what the fanboys here tell you, it's pretty generally accepted that sprint's data speeds are absolutely horrendous. I've never been to NY so I can't say this with 100% accuracy but it is a pretty darn safe assumption.
I'm in Houston which is one of sprints biggest markets and even here just about everywhere I go the speeds are terrible. Not as bad as some people who get like .1kbs and .2 but they are still waaay below 1mps.
There have been small pockets where I get 1-2mbps but those are soo inconsistent that it's not even practical

Where do you live, Rochester? Speeds in Buffalo vary, that's the best I can tell you. My EVO 3D got significantly better speeds than my EVO LTE does. I'm just hoping that will change after an update or two. Rochester and Syracuse got WiMax pretty quickly though so I would imagine LTE isn't too far away.

No, he's not included. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Albany, and NYC are the major markets in NY.

I'm in chicago over by elston and lawrence, and my speed tests just got me 500kbps down, 60kbps up. This is pathetic 3g coverage, and its with full bars and its almost 11pm at night.
I'm 20 miles west of clevland and speeds here seemed to be a lot better here also.. will check when im downtown tomorrow
I think this has less to do with PRL updates and more to do with NV. I experienced this same thing earlier this week. The increased speeds have gone since then. I also took the new PRL but am getting the speeds I normally get. I am getting increased upload speeds with the new radio, however.

Oh you're over by that CVS there... I'm actually heading there in a minute, haha. I haven't S-off'd my phone, due to the risk of soft-brick, and now it looks like I have to for the OTA, which is irritating. I'll admit, I'm nervous about this too. I just want kernel source to allow devs to get CM9 or AOKP going so I don't have to worry about any of this business.

I have the same issue, and can even reproduce the behavior by calling my phone from my wife's. 9 out of 10 times it misses the call at my house. Strangely enough, if I toggle GPS on, I consistnently get 8 out of 10 calls... that's without an active lock too. Very strange to say the least.

does any one know when LTE in PALATINE will come live?
Largely depends on whether you're considered part of the "chicago" market which is supposed to be around september.
If you aren't part of that rollout.....Not anytime soon.
damn u have to be kidding me!! well i live like 20 mins from chicago. hope that the tower signal travel will travel far enought.
Well right now lte is about 10 miles or so west of palatine so it's just a matter of time. Now as far as Chicago getting lte I hate to say it but I don't think we might have lte this year . My office where I work has a sprint tower on it and a tech was out working on it and he was saying lte for Chicago might not happen this year with all the work they still have to do to the towers. I was also that Illinois already has 40% lte coverage so that's kind of good but could always be better
OP u say your from palatine well I am to so if u want to talk for some reason pm maybe we can get together sometime

Given that they haven't even officially announced there will be LTE for chicago, its probably not gonna be a few days from now

If they're 40% done with Illinois, they could easily go live this month. Many of the first round LTE markets went live with much less than 40 percent complete. They won't be DONE with Chicago this year, but I'm sure they'll go live this year.

Naples here. I almost stay at 200-300kbps at best. Maybe MAYBE get 1000kbps at like 3am. I get 1x here and then. I keep telling myself that it's the LTE work that makes it like this.

This morning at 5:29 a.m. my data just stopped working even though it did show I had a 3g connection.
Lakeland FL.
I clocked in to work at 6:00 a.m. worked 2 hours then took a cig. break and it was finally working again though the speeds were slow when usually @ work I've been getting 1700kbps to 2050Kbps (yeah I know hard to believe) but it seems that they already upgraded that tower since a couple of months ago cause before I used to get 100's 300's , I get the usual 300kbps at home (which I don't really care cause Wi-fi takes over)
Thanks everybody for your input! Seems like we are good to go..Let's hope to see something real good to come in Oct-November zone!
