Hey guys,
I've noticed that every time I send someone a picture, it is compressed (normal) and ends up looking completely squished and distorted (not normal). Has anyone else had this problem? Any way to get around it besides not compressing photos or using a different messaging app?
It didn't seem to be an issue on GO SMS but the stock app is so much easier on the eyes
Thanks

Hey guys,
Quick question/issue:
Coming from an iphone4 (and damn glad to be on android) I noticed no matter what way I took a picture for MMS it would always auto rotate it the direction I wanted it to. Meaning, if I took a picture with the phone in vert mode (How you would normally hold a phone) the picture is sideways when sending it. Kind of annoying as this is how I usually take quick pictures.
Is there some auto rotation setting that I am missing with this? Friends are getting annoyed with me sending sideways pictures lol.
thanks!
Ditto, I noticed this as well. Not sure how to fix it.
Hi all,
Having some issues with pictures being sideways in my camera album and with videos being turned sideways when trying to compress them to send by email. In the case of the pictures they will show sideways in the gallery thumbnails but will open right side up. I can't rotate them by hooking the phone up to my PC and accessing the SD Card through Windows (looks like I should have permission to modify but rotate is greyed out). Any of the photo editing apps I try on the phone itself show the pictures the right way up when I open them and even if I rotate it and try to save, they still stay the same way. I use the Ultimate Photo Widget and it always shows the pictures sideways and I would really like to fix them.
In regards to videos I am trying to get the same functionality as an iPhone where you can adjust the size before emailing. I have tried Video Compress, Video Shrink, Vidtrim and VidCon but they all seem to compress with varying degrees of success but it seems like no matter what I do the resulting videos have been turned sideways.
I am running Resurrection Remix JB 3.1.2 if that is helpful and greatly appreciate any insight you may be able to provide.
Thanks!

I am experiencing this issue with my Z2 running .69 firmware.
I updated upon receiving my handset so i can't say if it's firmware related or hardware related.
To describe my issue, whenever i move photos to photo editing apps, there is a visible degradation of my pictures. I'm labeling the issue as degradation for now, but note that there is no lost of image size or resolution. Instead, the issue is the appearance of green splotches over the image, similiar to the appearance of noise on digital cameras.
This happens regardless of the editing app, it seems whenever the picture is moved to another app, the problem occurs.( E.g. in gallery; share a picture via Instagram or VSCO )
Attached are two images, neither images have received any filter. only difference is that one has gone through 3-4 apps. For clarification, the apps are not the one degrading the picture as it works fine on my GNex.
Kindly open both files and is is pretty evident there is a green tint on the second picture.
Can anyone test if their handset is experiencing this same issue?
Is there some sort of Sony "enhancement" going on behind the scenes causing this?
Is it limited to the Z2 or is this an issue of Kitkat?
If possible, could someone help me test if this is a problem with my specific handset?
kindly move a shot to VSCO or your favourite editing app, don't make any edits but just save the file and compare between the original and the "edited" file. you can try moving the image through 3-4 apps and note the green tint becoming stronger each time.
This is happening on all my pictures, regardless if i took it off the phone or through a dedicated camera and then transferred it over. The colour shift is greatly bothering me as it just ruins the picture.
Thanks.
I just tried with a couple of photos. On one of them the green tint was apparent (on white background) but the other is identical with the original.
Hi, Thanks for doing the test.
It seems there is some form of over aggressive noise reduction when photos are moved. It tries to reduce the noise by smudging it, however it results in the whole image having the green tint.
In your first image, the green tint is actually present, go back and forth between the two pictures and you'll notice the skin tone of your thumb changes slightly.
The effect of this noise reduction becomes over bearing when moving the photos through multiple apps, and it is seriously bothering me...
Furthermore, this is totally redundant, why is there a need to modify pictures that are being moved around? I understand if it's present on the camera's software but to implement it when editing pictures??
I have contacted Sony regarding this but they simply asked me to do a Factory reset which won't solve the issue. I have asked them to push this to the software team, hoping it is removed in the next update.
If there is a more direct way to contact the Sony android software team, kindly let me know, thanks.
If However you are not experiencing this, do let us know as well so i can decide if i should send it down for repair or not.
Could more people test this issue?
It seems more than just colour issues.
There are tons of compression artifacts in my pictures, making smooth surfaces appear blotchy.
Got both my wife and mum this phone for xmas, but we are really disappointed with photos taken by it. Even when taken in reasonable lighting conditions, photos tend to look really soft and blurry, despite the preview shown on screen looking nice and sharp. It isn't finger trouble (moving whilst shooting), it appears to either be poor auto-focus kicking in when hitting the soft-shutter button, or it is really badly compressing the images (although it is set to 100% quality). Any tips gratefully received!

Hello,
Try disabling the zero shutter lag in the camera app's settings, that improves a lot for me.
Have you tried changing the mode of the camera (swipe down/up in camera app), or maybe a third party camera app from the play store (if nothing else works) ? Also if possible use flash, trust me it improves your photo a lot.

Thanks for the tips - I'll give them a try when the wife surfaces and let you know how I get on.
Haven't had much joy - perhaps just expecting too much from the phone. It really does look like it is just making a mess of the compression.
Stock camera app is a trash (as most stock apps).
What problem with installing external camera app? Apps like "Camera FV-5" have a LOT of options.
It seems like Samsung likes to blur photos to much yo remove noise. I notice I lose a lot of detail in the photos. If I have the camera open and have it facing a person and take a screen shot i get more detail then I do actually taking the photo. I have disables the beauty feature, but I'm finding this very annoying. Anyone experiencing the same thing or know how to stop this?
