[Q] one big button root - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

when will we get the big button root software for our xperia P

Probably not so soon.
Sent from my LT26i with Tapatalk 2

Yup, I wouldn't hold your breath. It's going to be some time, if ever.
If you're really keen, I encourage you to learn how to develop and mod, but remember: If the big guns here haven't been able to achieve it, you probably won't.
And I'm not being offensive: I'm being honest.

Chances of ICS 4.0 update for Amaze?

The announcment of ICS 4.0 was just made if anyone isn't aware. What are the thoughts of ICS comming to the Amaze, and if so, how long before its actually implemented? Im curious to see how the "integrated" buttons on the screen are going to work out with phones that have phyisical captivate buttons. Its probibaly going to require a little modding in order to remove the "buttons" from the software and remap to the phisical buttons. Just another road-block to the destination of a fairly quick update! (Pun intended HTC!)
Sounds like an easy software change really.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using XDA App
Hmm.. not so sure about that. The way they show-cased it at the event makes it seem as if the "buttons" are a heavy implimintation. For example when you watch a video the buttons disappear and the screen resizes itself to increase the screen size. And there are only three buttons that seem to change funtionwise, depending on what you are doing.

In other words: You'll know. Someday. We're going to dodge that question as long as possible. We have one of the worst histories of updating software for our devices.
For reference, the Flyer still doesn't have Honeycomb although there was a nearly fully functional leak months ago.

I think HTC is way better then other companies out there when it comes to upgrades, the biggest road block are the service providers in USA
HTC is faster than RIM when it comes to updates
Don't forget that Google requires 18 months of software support from release date of their certified devices.

I'm actually curious how they'll handle it this time around. They totally boned us with the original SGS; now that they've got the lead direct from Google for the next Nexus device maybe they'll actually not be completely useless? I'm not holding my breath though.
I'm pretty sure we'll have it even when its not official. Cyanogenmod or AOSP roms will do the trick, but if you want Sense with it, I don't know...
We will have sense 3.5 ported , CM9 hopefully & AOSP hopefully .
It's looking good ICS well at least the launcher .

Please leave some feedback if you want him here
I tried contacting him before. I never got a response.

If he is actually wanting to work on the amaze I'd be glad to donate, mdeejay does great stuff used his stuff on the sensation. This is a dev I would love to get the device to if he is actually wanting to work on the amaze and own a device. Kinda sucks right now to get a device for someone at this moment with newer devices coming out it seems like most devs want to move on to those newer devices. It'd be awesome to have a dev who would actually want to own and use an amaze. Back when I was on the galaxy s2 forum they got Eugene373 a phone and because he was gonna use it as his phone he ended up bringing them so much great roms. To throw a device into a devs hands who is just willing to work on a couple roms for us, is kind of a shakey idea on one side its great and appreciated that they wanna help the amaze community out on the other hand they got lives and their preferred devices so you never know how long they will be willing to help out for.

I would argue the quoted part above - our device still isn't even remotely obsolete. I was at a tmobile yesterday with a guy who works there who owned an amaze previously, but they gave him a htc one.. he isn't impressed. It is slimmer, and it includes beats - but otherwise it is the same phone without being able to access battery or have a microSD.
Sure, the international version is quad-core, but the newest phones in the US haven't made any attempt at pushing hardware specs-- we are still good competition.
There are a ton of devs that are still developing for devices that are definitely inferior to ours spec wise, that alone is a very big factor.. if they use our phone, they will fall in love(or they have bad taste!)

Well I partially agree with you, its not so much that the amaze is a bad device, its not behind the curve nor is it stale, however, the newer devices are easier to dev for from looking at the one s and one x even with no kernel source they are farther along. I love the amaze and I don't see anything compelling enough to upgrade to anytime soon. With that being said the amaze is no walk in the park to dev for, with missing drivers its already a not so easy phone to deal with, I truly hope if mdeejay or any developer that gets our device for that matter likes it the way owners of it do so that they can see a reason to get it beyond just helping us.

Given that we have already received nothing from them, is there really anything to lose?
I mean, the only thing they can hold back is the ICS official ROM, but we already have that...
If they do release the official rom, they cannot legally hold back the kernel source. So, what can they do?
I seriously considered a few days ago what would happen if one of us kindly emailed HTC explaining everything and politely asking for the kernel source.
THEY CAN HAVE US ALL ARRESTED FOR INTERNETS HARASSMENT, CHARLES CARREON HAS FREE TIME NOW.
Actually, the only thing we can do is keep asking, hashtag it up gentlemen, but keep it CLASSY. Type like English is your first language. Though they do hate bad PR, totally going to put #HatesCustomers on the end.

Any advice what I should write?
VZW could give a **** less and bugging them will never result in anything positive development-wise; they will release on whatever schedule/circumstances suits them, customers be damned...but I'm all for pounding on HTC via social sites or other avenues, i.e. petitions, letters, etc.

Tell them how sense slows down the device and we want AOSP but that's only possible with source and you should probably tell them about all the drama that goes on around here because we don't have it, oh and all the devs leaving us
You nuts? You gotta at least tell them something they want to hear. Try something kind of like this:
To whom it may concern,
I am an aspiring Android developer and for years, I've absolutely loved Android devices from HTC. In fact, the Galaxy SIII, Nexus, and other competitor phones have zero appeal to me because I've always loved HTC. I don't feel comfortable with any other hardware manufacturer because I know I can always expect great design, ergonomics, and a manufacturer-designed user interface that makes sense (so much so that you guys even call it Sense).
My latest device is the HTC Rezound, but I upgraded before the One X and other devices were coming out because Verizon is the carrier in my area with the best signal quality. I love my Rezound because it reeks of the superb design and quality I can always expect from HTC. However, I like to develop on it as well, and I've recently hit a few snags because I lack the kernel source for the phone. So I ask as a loyal customer, could you please let me have it?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Your fan,
[NAME HERE]
Their not going to release a ICS kernel source when it hasn't even officially been rolled out yet in my opinion. Hopefully when it is released they drop the source quickly.

7 MONTHS?! That should be illegal. What the hell was stopping them?
As for our source, I doubt they are allowed by Verizon to release anything before OTA drops. Which will not happen until their new cash cow (Droid Incredible 4G) has had time to move plenty of units. So... probably no sooner than 2 weeks from now. That's if you're optimistic.
"...reeks of the superb design and quality..."
Perhaps not the best choice of words, lol.
But seriously, thanks for trying. This is too good a phone for HTC to let ignominiously die.

Xperia S - If it gets ASOP, Sony's dilema..

There is alot of chatter about the Xperia S being a ASOP Android device, which can accept standard Android, instead of Sony's skin ontop.
Now this must surely present a dilemma for Sony. Either Sony only have a very loose association with it, providing binaries for hardware drivers, and that's it, which would drive anyone that wants it to unlock their bootloader, en-masse, which is surely something Sony DON'T want to happen.
OR...
They produce a signed FTF that can be flashed onto stock devices, which removes the Sony experience, but means users can also switch back...
This again is also not an ideal situation, as firstly their own inhouse consumer flashtools are not suited to either/or flashing of images and informing end users what the differences are etc. it also encourages users to move AWAY from the Sony UI experience and towards the stock Nexus experience (which is now rather good).
I want they provide choice,AOSP skin and Sony UI.
I don't see why that's so hard.

Because it's very hard to decouple the UI (be it Sony, Samsung, HTC or whoever) from the core of Android.
Perhaps they want Google to do most of the work.

Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
Google will not do 'most of the work' for Sony, as most of the code for AOSP is already open source and available from CodeAurora. The hardware porting part doesn't take that much time, it's Sony's proprietary technologies that need work. This also explains how we got AOSP-based JB ROMs before Sony released an official update.
Do not turn this thread into a Sony bashing thread its about asop so keep it that way.
If one more person comments in here about how long Sony is taking to release jb I will shut it down.

[Q] [SOLA] Best way to destroy Sola

Hi guys.
After endless struggle with this hopeless "smartphone", trying multiple ROMs, uncountable fu**s shouted, playing both nice and dirty tricks to made this device usable, it's finally time to say enough. It's hard to express how much I hate this phone and how I hate sony for realeasing such a crap, and abandoning it completely before even one year have passed since initial release.
That's why I decided to destroy my Sola. I don't want to give it or sell to anone, because no one deserve such punishment and pain. It's time for payback, it's time for ravenge. I will really enjoy it.
Now, the question is, how should I destroy my Sola? Using hammer? With fire? Acid bath maybe? Throw it at the wall?
What''re your ideas? Maybe I will upload a movie with destructions process and name it "How to fix Xperia Sola issues"

No, not everything is working and it never will be, not without novathor sources opened for devs (that's why FXP also abandoned novathor devices). I have also a XPERIA sola. Before it I used a LG GT540 (600MHz Single-Core; 256MB RAM etc) and it really ****ed up after a time but then I bought the Sola last year and first I was that happy with GB. Then came the ICS update which let me say: How beautiful can a phone be?
I was soo god damn happy about the ICS update even if it was aweful
What I'ld like to say is:
If you use your phone correctly and care about it it won't that ****ty. Sure the Xsola and XU aren't the best smartphones but with a little breeze of careing it's not that bad I like my phone, with it's small 512MB of RAM and also with it's ugly SoC and Support
