Its rooted, with flashed stock ICS and the other day it stopped getting messages. I tried a lot of things from emptying the cache of the messaging app, to re installing the apex launcher. The only thing that worked was F-resetting my phone. then a couple days later it did it again. It hasnt done it yet again but if it does what should I do? I dont think I updated ICS, should I do that?

What's rooted?
What are you running right now?
What other measures have you taken to resolve this issue (you mention only 2)?

Its been rooted using super one click, and this is what I have done to resolve the matter : Reset settings, restarted Apex Launcher, Rebooted phone, Cleared Cache, and then finally factory reset the phone.
Are you on a custom rom or stock? what messaging app(s) are you using?
could apn settings be messed up?

Today I started getting force close errors when I try and open people via the shortcut on my home screen or through the app list. I am running BAMF cubed for a week now with no issues so I don't think that is the problem. I tried restoring to a previous backup, wiped my dalvik cache and normal cache, did a wipe and flashed back to a clean install of BAMF Cubed and my "people" still force close every time I open it. Only thing I have left that I know of is a factory reset and unrooting to see if that fixes it but really don't want to. Process com.android.htccontacts force close is the error I am getting. Anybody have anything else I could try?
I had this trouble as well after I installed Google+ 2.0 and Music 4.0 from ICS. After I removed both, everything started working again.

That did the trick! Thanks a ton!
must be google +, no problems with google music from ICS on my bolt.
From reading a few different forums, I can confirm this... The leaked google+ app is causing that issue on all roms.

Hello,
since a few days my Xperia S acts really weird. For example when typing right now it will freeze from time to time and i will have to wait 5 seconds to type.. Or when going back from an app to the Homescreen it will sometimes vibrate twice and open the taskmanager.. I already tried a factory reset but that doesnt help.. Any suggestions?

I have never seen this issue before, but i'm thinking in the lines of some kind of app that is using your cpu for the full 100% or so.
Does it perhaps occur after you have installed a specific app?
I'm not sure about this at all, but i'm just trying to eliminate all possibilities.
Ive installed 2 apps after the factory reset, XDA app and whatsapp.. :/
Those apps shouldn't really give any issues.
Are you running the stock GB/ICS firmware and a stock kernel as well?
yeah everything's on stock. nothing modifyed.
I think what you could try is to flash a stock GB/ICS firmware through the flashtool with a full data wipe and all that.
Perhaps it's useful to format the storage memory of your phone too, just to be sure.
Again, i'm not sure if any of this will work but it's worth a try.
If this doesn't help, i think it's best for you to return the handset to the shop.
Just curious how many people are having issues with stock Google apps and the stock browser after the ota update. The Gmail and maps will get stuck on a white screen as does the stock browser and the play store will just lock up on whatever screen it was currently on. Google wallet will freeze during the unlocking your device notice. These are the only ones I have found so far but I had none of these issues before the ota update. A phone restart will fix it for a period of time but I'm currently having to restart my phone 2 times a day to get the apps to work properly again.

I also forgot to add that during the restart after the screen turns off you can will change the ring volume up and down and hear it change for 2-3 seconds before the phone actually does restart. I noticed this when I had my Bluetooth headset still connected and it was not telling me it was disconnected for at least 4-5 seconds after the screen turned off unlike before the update when it was no more than a second.

Mine does this as well, the only "fix" I have found for it is rebooting the phone. Then it works for a few days until it randomly decides to freeze again.
I was having the same problems where the browser will be a white screen and not work. I went twrp and wipe cache/dalvik cache and haven't had a problem since

I have been having the same problem also been having random reboots at times
I'm rooted and flashed the latest firmware, is there any way it can be undone

After the update! The stock browser doesn't highlight the the URL address when tapped like before...Instead we have to manually delete the URL to search something else or press the little X after tapping on the URL.
Wtf!? Yeah count me in too. I just did a restart and it didn't fix problem. Gwallet still in notification bar saying initializing.

Also been having the same problem since updating, most noticable with the browser just being a white screen. Tried wiping cache & dalvik cache again, doesn't seem to help. Stock ROM with S-OFF. Surprised I haven't seen more mentions of this problem, but perhaps it's not widespread?
Well as I've learned over my time at xda updates are always catch 22's. That's why I choose to wait and read users feedback on how the latest ota is functioning. However none if this is revelant to your issues just figured I'd post it for future reference. Also have you guys tried a full wipe of your current rom? After you make a backup of your data of course to see if that will help ??

Yeah...I was having the same problem after the ota, but after a couple of reboots things started to work right.
Im having this too, is getting very annoying. Sometimes i just want to use the phone quickly for something and have to re-start the phone... I feel like breaking it against the floor.

I too am having the same issue. Play and browser all fail to respond. Wiped cache etc. Still repeats each time.

I wound up here after searching for this error, which just started with me yesterday with the browser (stock). It just displays a white screen when I try to use it.
I've had the latest update (flashed with 1.22.651.3 odexed ROM from xHausx and firmware from Captain Throwback) about a week now and this just started happening yesterday.
Yesterday I somehow got it to work again by clearing the Internet cache and then I performed a search from the Google search bar and all was well. I was thinking at the time that it was stuck on a particular page and that this got around it. But that fix isn't working for me today, so I'm going to try to clear dalvik/cache from twrp as recommended here and see where that gets me.
It's good to know I'm not the only one though... I wonder if there's anything else more specific we all have in common since we seem to be a fairly small subset. Maybe we all flashed the Odexed update for example?
EDITED TO ADD: Appears to affect Gmail too. And possibly several other Google apps as mentioned here and in other threads. Since there was a Gmail update I did yesterday, I'm going to try to uninstall that as mentioned in this other thread I found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810829

NOT helpful at all since it affects not only the stock browser but other Google apps as well.
Refer back to my original post which I updated with additional information.
I've found if I reboot and never use the stock browser I don't have the white screen problem. I set maxthon as the default and act like the stock browser doesn't exist.

I reverted back to the previous version of Gmail yesterday hoping that would fix the problem but it still happened. This morning when I clicked an email notification from my status bar, Gmail did the white screen thing and needed to be shut down manually. Just to verify that this and the browser incident were related, I tried to launch the stock browser and it too was white screen.
So those of you suggesting to install an alternate browser to get around this issue need to understand that this is a lot more widespread than the browser alone. For me, both my Gmail and Google Offers were white screens this morning upon trying to launch them so it definitely appears to affect all Google apps.
Yeah this happens to me as well. Its really bad now. Nothing fixes. It does it on all the roms with newer OTA for me. Only two roms will work for me without this problem. I have tried everything. Wiped everything, Reflashed, Checked my sd card, factory reset, you name it. It even does it on restored roms that didn't have the problem before. I don't know what to do....
A developer told me to try and manual flash boot.img through fastboot but I'm not even sure how to do that. Need to read up on it.
I have had the issue to wear when I am trying to open the browser app, it will actually freeze the entire phone until I hit the home button repeatedly in play store will not load anything until I fully restart the phone I've tried fixing for missions do a nandroid restore nothing seems to work

I can't post on the Liquid ROM page (been reading XDA for 1 1/2 years but never really post, only learn) otherwise I would ask there.
I downloaded the ROM ZIP file to my sd card. Wiped Cache and Davlik, then flashed the ROM. When it booted it "updated applications" and then opened. It seemed to have saved settings as my old wallpaper, widgets, and applications where in place on the homescreens. Did I not wipe system info or something I must have missed? Things mostly work with the rom, except I can not get mobil data to work at all. Yes I have read all the pages of the post, and realize many have issues with it. I have tried 3 sets of radios and they don't help. Currently I am running the radios from the .9 OTA which several here are using and working fine with the rom. MD5 sums check out fine.
Also Apps placed in my App Dock keep dissapearing, sometimes when I reboot, sometimes when the phone is active.
Further, it seems hard to scroll between screens, whether on home pages or in the app drawer. Maybe it is ICS (this is my first real experience with ICS), was looking for something in settings that would make scrolling easier but could not locate it.
Any help would be appreciated especially with the data..(WIFI works fine). I don't think it is the rom, my initial thoughts are why so many of my settings carried over from CM7....I have flashed many roms in the past, did I just space on a step?
guess I missed wiping system stats, thought all I saw was factory reset, I don't want to do a factory reset though correct? that would unroot...
You need to get 4ext recovery and use the wipe all except sd and then reflash the rom.
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2
thanks, downloaded that the other day, just haven't used it yet. Will give that one a try....
Just installed and looked into 4ext and it gives me the following options:
Wipe Menu:
Stay inside...
Battery stats
Davlik
Cache
Data / factory reset
there is no option for wipe all but sd card. I have the newest version of 4ext v1.0.0.5 RC5 (not the one in testing)
Maybe try using apex launcher instead of the stock browser too. I found it to be a lot smoother than nova.

Why would my email mess up? I can't send mail from either the gmail or the email application. The gmail has a bunch of blank messages with 12/31/1969 as the date.
I really like it but if I have to how do I go back to stock?
Just uninstall apex.

what is apex and will this help my email problems and how do i uninstall it?
I don't know if it will help the email problem. You can uninstall it from the app manager just like any app. I found if I restore gmail from a backup I get the blank messages. Try just downloading it from the market.

I have been running the MR2V7 rom and have trouble with a couple apps. My Ebay app says unfortunately it has to close. Then my Facebook app shows me the top blue banner and nothing but white screen below it. I have uninstalled and recovered from TiBu, which temporarily corrects the problems until I reboot my phone, in order to get data working again. Any ideas. Thanks in advance...

I'm ready to go back to stock. How do I do that? Too many bugs especially since I do alot of emailing.
Hello good peepz of XDA.
I got the Omega v33.2 ROM installed and noticed that the personalized ringtones I got for different contacts gets restored to the default ringtone.
First I thought it was on reboot, but I tried a few reboots but that wasn't it.
Anyone else got this?
Edit: Personalized alarm tone also gets restored to default when the ring tones changes. I'm trying to figure out when it happens..
I'm running the same rom and haven't came across that problem. Are they resetting every time you reset your phone?
Sent From My Omega'd Galaxy S3 ...
It's resetting the alarm/ringtone randomly. I haven't yet figured out under what circumstanses it' doing it. But under every day use for sure.

Goodie-good! Will try =)
Now on Omega 33.3 and the problem persists..
The personalized ringtones survived the upgrade from 33.2-33.3. But after installing Rolles youtube mod (in CWM) the alarm/ringtones jumped back to default again.
I wasn't sure that was the reason, so I tested entering CWM and rebooting, no problem.
So I tested entering CWM and installed Samsungs original boot animation, no problem.
So I tested entering CWM and installed S Note (the one ported from Galaxy Note II, no problem.
Since none restored tones to default I went back to CWM and reinstalled Rolle Tube, now no problem, the tones still there.
I guess I need to be on them settings like a stalker to see when they reset..
I've been trying different scenarios, but it's not consistent..
It sometimes resets the custom sounds when I either reboot or power down/up the device. That's what I can come up with.
I'm at v34 now and the resets has apparently stopped.
Soo, I guess everything sorted itself out
