Guide:
Before you root your device, your device must running Gingerbread. Flash it back to Gingerbread if your device are running Ice Cream Sandwich
Open Run.dat and it will lead you through the process
Gingerbread Tips:
If you trying to root Gingerbread you may encounter more problem than rooting a Ice Cream Sandwich
Try to whole down Power Key and Up Volume button to force shut-down your device. And start from where you failed again.
Debug options may somehow disabled when you Flash your machine back to Gingerbread after Step 3, re-enable it and try again.
For Ice Cream Sandwich just follow the guide and you will be fine

This will work on GB too, flash back to Gingerbread after step 2.
You may need few attempts and force reboot finish to step 4 to step 5

It looks like this is the original one posted earlier with additional single batch file to call the other batch files. He also converted all those non-English characters to English. :cyclops:

the file run is for root directly our Xperia s?
cheers

Does it work on Xperia U or Xperia P?

Confirmed working with Xperia S. I think this is better as the flash process is reduced by once

Need one for P!! :-(

I was on Gb and flashed ICS

Is there a proper tutorial in English for this?

Just read those text presented in the batch file in conjunction with the tutorial which this is based on.
IMO, this is better than the original tutorial. I tried the original, I didn't get the SU installed properly only busybox.
I give this a try. With this, you flash less 1 time and one of the step I believe is different in terms of ticking the options in flashtool.

Does anyone try this on Xperia P(6.0.B.3.132)?

Running on ICS, will it work for me???

Thanks for this, worked like a charm. Used other thread for ref however.

Thanks, it worked really well. Had to do a factory reset afterwards but now its perfect

[Q] Help needed for a newbie

Hi all,
Sorry if this is the wrong section and has possibly been covered many times before but I am new to this Android stuff and wanted instant answers due to not understanding things covered in posts and threads on the forum.
The phone:
I have a Sony Xperia x10i which was previously on Orange but has now been unlocked. It had Gingerbread 2.3 before but now has been what I assume is "debranded" and is now 2.1 (I dont know what)
The Problem:
I have tried to update via SonyPC companion where it shows "update avaliable" as I go to proceed it fails after clicking the next button (which sometimes comes up hidden in the dialog box)
I want to update the android market app to GooglePlay but due to being stuck on 2.1 it wont allow it unless 2.2 upwards.
Using Google - i typed in the build number which seems to throw back that it is a Greek rom of some kind?
Final note:
I want to keep my phone up to date without destroying the software or installing custom roms, basically keeping it original and simple. I want the latest firmwares etc so that it is all up to date. Also I would like to keep it unlocked without having to shell out to get it unlock again after it has been done once.
Hope someone can help me out. I can answer questions if more info needed.
Many thanks in advance.
(UK using o2 SIM)
I dont know 100% on what to do because im certainly no professional, but in the system phone menu at the bottom does it definatly show Android 2.1?
It says firmware 2.1 -update1 if that means anything?
It needs to mod the build.prop file to set device as global generic one and update with PC companion.
But it requires root first.
Evenit is very strange, almost all of the x10i got 2.3.3 fw.
Or second solution - download 2.3.3 stock fw and flash it via flashtool
Thanks for the reply.
Can you explain a bit better as I dont understand sorry.
Did you mean I have to modify the build somehow?
I thought about the new rom solution but not sure if my device network unlock would still be there after installing new roms. Can someone point me to a simple guide on installing a new rom etc.

You must be sure if what you want first
If you want to install a custom ROM, you will only need to root your device, install recovery and flash whatever ROM you want.
Or you can flash the stock 2.3.3 with Flashtool (thing thats the easiest solution for you) update and decide for custom roms later.
You have X10i rignt? Not X10a yes?
After you will decide what you want will provide further information.

The X10i is version for europe and parts of asia and so on. X10a is mainly from USA and Canada (other GSM module). Also exists SO-01B which is a Japanese version of X10i.

Everytime someone helps you, hit the "Thanks"button below his post, it will give him more good feelings Its a good habit everywhere here on XDA.
So here we go:
1.) Download the Flashtool form here:
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
2.) Donwload the generic SE WWE 2.3.3 ROM (here from my older post):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26141346&postcount=13
3.) Once complete - extract the file.ftf form ROM archive and place it in Flashtool directory called "firmwares"
4.) Run Flashtool, select Flash, choose Flash Mode (not fastboot) and then follow the onscreen steps
5.) Hint - maybe you will have problems to get your device into the Flash mode, see my post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26135308&postcount=4
Enjoy!
Smashing! I will definately give this a go next week as going away so dont want to screw the phone up before go lol. Will report back when Ive cracked it.

[My Exp SOLUTION] {NO SE LOGO after RELOCKED BOOTLOADER??}{BLACKSCREEN}[SUCCESS!!]

Hi, i just recently made huge steps for unlocking and installing and flashing unlocked ROM. I still not satisfied for Unlocked ROMS cos still have bugs. So i decided to return as before, LOCKED ROMS
But in the way of restoring what i want, many obstacles come in my way but Cleared
1.NO SONY ERICSSON LOGO/ BLACKOUT SCREEN after relock [Learnt Reinstall OriginalKernel for 2.3.3GB, Lost Source of Logo)
2.BootLoop after restore Data/ROM/System via xrecovery [Learnt that restoring Backup ROMS before unlock will crash and bootloop, have to reinstall new ROM via xrecovery]
If you meet these similar situations, feel free to follow steps i gonna share with ya
RESTORE INTO LOCKED BOOTLOADER REQUIREMENT
-UnLocked Bootloader
-Baseband 71
-Custom Kernel flashed exp KCernel,ThKernel and etc.
Steps to restore Bootloader
1. Follow thread and download New S1Tool.7Z
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259617
2. Extract zip file use the Apps.
3.Use the new S1Tool ''Restore Command" and follow its intructions to relock your Bootloader. Use ''Identify" to check your bootloader. If ''R'' seen instead of ''r'' in your Version, means your locked
4. Try reboot your phone. If Sony Ericsson Logo Not Seen, NEXT STEP!!!
Steps to restore SE Kernel, Baseband and Logo which in Locked[/U]
-Locked Bootloaded
-No SE LOGO after boot/on phone
-3.0.1.G.0.75 Kernel for 2.3.3
-Rooted (Unrooted i'm not sure ;P but this flashtool also provide rooting (thread under step 1, tell me result here if success)
1.Follow thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196421 IF YOUR PHONE ROOTED BEFORE, JUST USE its FLASHTOOL, no need to read, save time
2. I trusted This flashtool and it did what it promised. LOL, next
3. Downloaded the flashtool, extract it under folder for your Flashing
4. Download Kernel 2.3.3 here :
http://www.mediafire.com/?fpmabfbbua54qjo
5. Extract the zip or Copy file named "X10i_3.0.1.G.0.75_only kernel_baseband.TFT" and paste it to azuzu flashtool FOLDER named ''firmwares''
6. ''Flash'' and select ''X10i which have contents of amss, cache, fota, and etc. JUST CLICK KERNEL.SIN and OK!!!All will be installed if you follow instruction properly in flashtool. REBOOT!!
View attachment 1114827
7. EXTRA IF NOT-ROOTED: Before reboot phone, Close the flashtool and reopen the flashtool, follow azuzu's rooting instructions, video below REBOOT!!RECOMMENDED FOR USING 2.3.3GB STOCK ROMS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196421
Then, if SE logo shown after on your phone, THEN CONGRATULATIONS!!! You Successfully reached your Locked Rooted Status. If rooted and xrecovery installed, just Press Back like before, ''When SE logo shown'' and TROLL Zhidhu LOL, flash ur files and etc. Hope these experiences help solve some of your hardship in X10

Nice Guides.
Good guides. I'll stay on UL BL since my x10's warranty is already expired years ago. Locked Bootloader means limited possibilities to "play around" with our precious X10. While waiting for the camera (at least) and hotspot (not important to me) to be working on Championswimmer's AOKP, I'll stick to MM TEAM 7.2 v1.0 since everything works so smooth with MM TEAM CM 7.2's ROM. Just my 2cent.

[INTERMEDIATE] POST #5 - UNDER TEST AND RESEARCH

[Q][Mini Pro][Firmware]Last Firmware before ICS available anywhere?

Hello,
I am looking for the last pre ICS firmware for my SK17i. I am currently back on 4.0.2.A.0.42 since ICS was not the best performance wise and the notification LED didn't work (please let's not discuss ICS vs. GB here)
So now I wanted to flash the latest pre-ICS firmware which as far as I know is 4.0.2.A.0.69 (only for germany, but that's where I live). Or 4.0.2.A.0.62 which maybe is easier to find. Now I do know about the !PreRooted 4.0.2.A.0.69 in this thread. However I had quite a few problems with aswell as others described in this thread. Most importantly the flashlight wasn't working at all, the keyboard layout was way off (not just qwerty instead of my german qwertz). I'd really appreciate any help in this matter.
Also: I am a complete newb concerning android but I tried my beast to research this before posting
Thanks,
SM
Keyboard layout depends on the firmware region.
Flashlight problem seems to be related to the baseband, I have heard. Even though I kind of doubt it, but still worth of trying.
If you root your .42, you should be able to update via OTA (it means via WiFi and the app Update Centre) to the last 2.3.4 build without loosing root
Thanks Feanor88! I had only opened the update centre once and it told me everthing was up to date (forgot to refresh/recheck via menu).
Now it show's the international 4.0.2.A.0.62 Upgrade. But if I try to install it it reboots a couple of times and then starts up with the old FW and tells me the install was not possible and I should try again. Which I did with the same outcome. Any Idea what could be the hinderance? I'm rooted with CWM installed, bootloader is locked (never touched it).

CWM is the trouble creator. You will need to come back to stock and then try.

Thank you, that did it. Now I'm on the .62 GB firmware which I'm much happier with than ICS. At least now my Sound in Navigon and Skype work correctly, aswell as the notification LED and games like Osmos don't randomly quit

[Q] Downgrade to Honeycomb after rooting

Friend, now that our tab is finally rooted.. thanks again to all who did this for us
Now, anybody have tried to downgrade to honeycomb after rooting?
How was the procedure, simple or tricky?
PS Procedure is suggested by Cat McGowan here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31723451&postcount=194
I tried but when I boot in recovery It sais E: /sdcard failed to mount can't found such directory
and when I put an SD card in it sais E:/sdcard failed to mount invalid argument
So don't know what to do?

There is no India 3.2.(1) anymore, removed from Sony servers. Change region to US (WIFI ONLY). Then you can downgrade to 3.2(1). Then you could change back to India. Use AIO too custom update to Downgrade to 3.2.1 with root (to be safe) even though the US 3.2.1 online here is rootable with the old method.
Good luck

You will be very lucky to find that file. You should go up to ICS then preroot the HC update and then flash using AIO.
Hence giving you HC rooted.

THAT 3.2.1 rom is not easy to find
suggest you upgrade to 4.0.3 use ota
root it
then change to us 3.2.1 r2 rom,(Or china rom,i have it
last root it again
PS:not all ver#10 HC is un-root able!,my china 3.2.1 r2 is rooted by aio!
Yea bro, i have again upgraded to ICS but not with ota.. but downloading req file from stifilz bro's update thread. It all went just fine.
Yesterday, rooted it too. All well right now.
Now regarding HC, i have few doubts in mind. Can you guys please suggest:
-I have not yet understood how to install HC that is with kernal 10 which is rootable. stifilz suggested to install with aio to get the root on HC but i don't really get the steps. Can you please elaborate how to install HC and get it rooted step by step?
-In ICS, there is patch in aio to make it enable "Use sd card 2 as USB storage ", is there something available like this in HC?
-I sometime get microphone issue on ICS, has somebody else face similar issue and on HC microphone work well?
Thanks again guys for your help

normal HC is rootable, just use aio, make sure ver is 3.2.1,not 3.2
by now, only china #10 version is rootable,i 'am lucky chinese
maybe u can make a pre-root hc rom by aio, just like pre-root ics (just in theory)
-In ICS, there is patch in aio to make it enable "Use sd card 2 as USB storage ", is there something available like this in HC?
USB storage is ics ONLY

[Q] noob question!

Hello,
my wife has a x10 and would like to install a custom rom on it to get it running smoother. The problem is we're in France and the official updates didn't get past 2.1 . I really have been searching for a while for a solution, but all I can find are tutorials how to instal from gingerbread or how to update to the official gingerbread, but that doesn't work for our operator. So any help?
Thank you in advance,
Tiko.

Thank you for the quick reply. So if I have a rooted 2.1 x10i and I can't get official upgrades above 2.1 , what would be the first step on my way to gingerbread and custom rom. If you just give me the different steps (no details) I'l then follow your instruction thread to the letter, but I need to know where to begin. Thank you!

Well in my tutorial I start from scratch but ok. You would first need flash tools, 2.3.3 rom and patients.
Flashtools would take the 2.3.3 rom and push it to your device and remove your current 2.1. Its very! Easy to do so. When you get 2.3 gingerbread you would hate it right away because its stuck in time slow. Anyway you would then download and place donutHD which is the best stock 2.3 stable rom for x10(my opinion) place it in your SD card. The root your device and install xrecovery(all in my tutorial) and go into the recovery by switching off your phone, the when switching it on again press back a few times until you enter the recovery. Then do a factory reset and the install the rom. When done reset and the your good for good.
Doing these things will loose you all your data on your phone so download GO! backup(not pro) and backup your stuff and when your done redownload it and restore it.

PS.....this was just a rundown, follow carefully my tutorial.

ok, thank you for your patience. Last question, what 2.3.3 rom should I take for the first flash? Promised, after this I won't bother you anymore! It's just that she uses her phone mostly for professional use, so I really shouldn't brick it.

Its ok you could ask. Have you already installed gingerbread using flashtools? And don't worry you won't brick this phone easy at all.
And the donutHD rom in the developer section is a good rom for her because its stable and fast.

Sorry here download gingerbread 2.3 from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?vxa0kzi87idladf
After downloading flashtools and extracting it to your desktop place the file you downloaded in the frameware folder and when you start you would see "flash" using flashtools and then a window would come up showing two files: relock bootloader or something(my PC crashed so I cannot remember the name. But its not important) and a file named Arco and on the same line you would see 2.3.
And remember before turning off you phone to flash gingerbread you should back up your data since it is a business phone. Then go to settings, applications, and tick unknown sources then in development-USB debugging.
Then turn off the phone and after flashtools say plug in the phone through USB do so while holding download the back button on your phone. When done follow my guide.

it is easier if you just flash the kernel and baseband of 2.3.3, I will search the thread, just flash via flashtool, then go in pc companion or seus and you can flash the stock rom
Sent from my X10i using xda app-developers app
PC companion doesn't work for him in this country so he cannot get 2.3 with it. Only 2.1.

Hello, and thank you for your interest. I'm in France... And I think there's only one french operator that introduced the 2.3.3 update, and it's not mine.
Anyway, I think I'll go for the first solution, because I allready prepared everything for it, but if you both think the second solution is better, please let me know before the weekend, and I'll try that.

I am no pro in flashtool, i dont know what you have done with your phone and so on, so its maybe better to use the other option .
But I did a little reseĀ§kuld recommend you to look dixperia 7 avenger (a stock based custom rom) for two reasons:
1. it was my first custom rom and its simply great ,
2. there is the stock kernel and an introduction how to flash the rom from 2.1
Even if you dont decide to start with this Rom it is sure interesting for you here is the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557455
People with Rooted Android 2.3.3 Stock(-based):
1. Go to xRecovery and do some steps:
-Factory Reset
-Wipe Cache Partition
-Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Wipe Battery Stats
2. Choose Install Custom Zip and select my ROM.
3. After this Reboot Phone.
+ more instructions for people on 2.1
4. (instead of point 3) Take off battery from your phone (don't use Reboot Phone, DON'T TURN OFF YOUR PHONE NATURALLY).
5. Put .ftf file to firmwares folder inside FlashTool direct place on your PC.
6. Flash .ftf file.
7. Turn on your phone naturally
