Gmail is not default? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Brand new phone, maybe I made a mistake on setup but doubt it. Why is gmail not my default email upon clicking 'email dev' in the play store, instead it goes to my yahoo pop accounts?
Thanks.

Open your regular mail app(NOT the gmail app, but make sure you are on your gmail account obviously), then click on the "menu" button, then click "settings", then click "general settings", and then you'll see a check box that says "make default account"

No luck. Clearing defaults button appeared to initially work until I tested it, no prompt for action, went straight to yahoo. Second option didn't work either, general settings for mail shows a greyed out checkmark for default app and does not allow me to uncheck it, no option for default in gmail.

app launcher >settings > app associations >email > compose gmail

Mine is set to "compose mail" under app associations. I dont use the gmail app so I didnt check the compose gmail option. The way I suggested earlier should have worked for you. Thats really weird. Did you do the same steps I listed for your other email accounts to make sure that one of them wasnt checked off as the default account?
Either way, as long as your problem is resolved its all good. Im just curious as to why the other way wouldnt work.

Glad I could help. HTC made that menu to get around the Apple patent issue

Deleting contacts.

Im having an issue deleting contacts from my phone. When i click on there profile it does not give me an edit button to delete. Do i have to delete them from gmail and fb also? I unlinked them from fb and deleted from google contacts and its still thete and not giving me an option to delete.
While viewing the contact, hit the menu soft key. It will bring up a few options, delete being one of them.

That's odd. I know I'm on a different device, but through my roms it's always been there.
Sorry I couldn't help, try the rom thread.

Email "select all" no longer a option?

In the email app is there a way to "select all" so I can select /delete all emails as opposed to selecting each one manually?

Can somebody confirm this feature is no longer availlable and that I'm not missing something?
Not seeing it on mine either, sorry.

I removed the stock gmail.apk and replaced it with an all black version and the select all is in my settings. Try loading an earlier version of gmail. It works fine me. Hope this helps
Locked & Loaded
Yep I don't see the select all option either.

in the stock messaging app -> settings -> multimedia messages -> auto retrieve .. which I think only applies to MMS not SMS
As far as I've seen, there is only one place to control notifications for the stock HTC messaging app. In the stock messaging app -> Settings -> Notifications .. I would double check all the notifications are turned off in there. No notifications should appear if all those options are unchecked/disabled.
If you're still receiving notifications after double checking they are all turned off, then it would appear HTC didn't code something right in their apk and that is definitely a bug!
Hope the clarification helps! Let us know how it goes!
Yes sounds like a bug. What are my OPTIONS? everything was just like you explain only auto retrieve on mms nothing for sms

What would happen if we deleted or freeze the messaging apk? I'm having the same problem as well

Open Messages>Menu>Settings>Notifications>Received Notifications *uncheck*
That should be all you need to do. If you are getting more than one notification it may be a different app. You said that something pops up, stock messenger doesn't pop up. Do you have SMS popup installed by chance?
I removed mms.apk from system apps and everything is fine now.

That is not an option only for mms not sms

Why do email reply automatically get saved as contacts

How do I stop this from happening. Every time I reply from my gmail app who ever I reply to automatically gets saved as a contact.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Google does it. They have always done this with g mail. And your phone syncs contacts with google. I wish I knew how to make it stop. I'll dig.
Edit: dug. At google.com go to gmail and sign in. press cog next to your name and scroll down to "create contacts for auto-complete" and select I'll add contacts myself and scroll to bottom and save changes.
Thanks that worked.

Same issue here, very annoying.
Same issue here. Tried re installing facebook and that did not help.
Out of curiosity, does the issue go away if you follow the steps below?
Navigate to Settings > Application manager
Swipe until you are on the "All" tab.
Scroll down until you see "SNS", then tap on it.
Disable the app.
Try removing your account from within settings.
Delete Facebook's cache and data (allocation manager).
Reboot device
Sign in.

Had the same problem... Samsung SNS wants to pretty much access all my facebook info. Did the above and it stopped bugging me! Thanks!
