Cyanogenmod 10 (Jellybean 4.1) News - Motorola Photon 4G

CyanogenMod plans a quick leap to Jelly Bean for version 10, existing devices likely to tag along
The crew's early looks suggest that there will only be a few minor tweaks needed to merge Google's latest with the custom Android code, making CyanogenMod 10 a relative snap to produce. The update's release is still very much up in the air without the Android Open Source Project code available to modify; that said, device compatibility also isn't expected to be an obstacle. Any device that can run CyanogenMod 9 should run version 10 when it's released. As long as we're willing to wait for a stable 9.0 to emerge first, there are few barriers to making Jelly Bean that much sweeter.

yep.
Many have asked whether JB will be CM9.1 or CM10. Keeping with the pattern thus far, every newly named AOSP update results in a bump to the CM major version. This has the added benefit of fitting into the pattern of [insert codename position in the english alphabet] = CM version. Examples being: G is the 7th letter thus CM7, I is the 9th letter thus CM9 and J = 10.

Because CyanogenMod's Eclair, Froyo, and Gingerbread were CM 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3? Wait a minute, my Gingerbread CM ROM is 7? Confusing?
They didn't do point releases for Android's 2.0 point releases; no reason they'll do it for 4.0's point releases.

The number is the numerical placement of the code word in this instance j is the tenth letter so cm10 just as I is the 9th. They plan to keep using this naming structure from what I read.

I vote for it to be called CMX
U know u want it.
But I am looking forward to a stable version of Google now. And that camera. Seems legit. Estimated time before alpha release around Aug/Sept maybe? But that's just my guess. I personally have no idea.

Drivers are directions that tells your hardware how to interact with the software. At this point, we are frankenstein. We use different parts of other phones in order to make ours work. We need directions explicitly for our phone.

Well with that in mind, I would imagine we'll be able to use most of the Atrix drivers when that's released, since that's 99% the same phone, and is scheduled for a Q3 ICS release, as opposed to the Photon's Q4.

I'm pretty sure he just said atrix, in reference to the original atrix, which is on motorola's update schedule for a Q3 ICS update.
And yes, my thought's exactly, I'd expect heavy driver reuse from that update.

[Q] ICS question for Atrix.

Hello, I have an Atrix rooted with an unlocked bootloader, running Faux's Enhanced stock kernal. I was just wonder how I would upgrade when/if ICS comes to the Atrix. Would you SBF to 2.3.4 stock and OTA rom there, or is a Fruitcake option possible? I was just wondering, because I am determined not to brick this phone...hopefully ever.
When that moment comes, we all know what to do, don't worry.

no, the SDK was released. this doesn't equal the source for ICS.
the SDK for Honeycomb was released, but the source was never released. that's why we've never seen a honeycomb version of Cyanogenmod; as long as the SDK is all we have we won't be able to get a completely stable port of ICS out on any device

If they did, then we just need a CM Dev to step up and dev!!
I know that not all devices get a dev, that is why there are "KANG" versions out there. Individual Dev does the work from CM source, but is not officially supported by the CM team.
Only time will tell.

Linaro coming to CM9!

Seen this over on Android Police, and theres no mention of it here in our beloved LTEvo thread! Linaro is coming to CM9, and it sounds like very soon! Says to nearly double the speed on ICS. Heres the link:

Beat me to it lol. Yea Kush is getting close it looks like. Once the data/sms are straightened out, I'll be all over it awaiting Linaro
from what I gathered watching that video, it seemed that we will not benefit from this....
Seemed the changes done were kernel level and geared to the specific SoC the Nexus runs...saying they were CPU optimizations, and that it mainly was cleaning the "bad code" allowed in -o2 optimization, and once cleaned they were able to run through o3 optimization...
correct me if im wrong in that thinking though...

I mean im sure some of it is real general Android related stuff in the kernel that could be ported over to other SoC's....But the guy was fairly clear it was CPU related and delt with cleaning up the code to be able to do -o3 optimization on it...

Unofficial, I believe, means that it isn't supported by the CM team.

Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
HAHAHAHHH please get it correct. There is NO ICS 4.1. Android 4.1 is called Jelly Bean. Anyways until the source code is released (probably in 2 weeks), the CM team has nothing to work with and they only build from source. NO EXCEPTIONS.

I see your point, but its the same as asking when were getting ics... I understand youre new to the photon forums, and welcome aboard. But when you see a new thread every couple days asking about the release date of ics (and now jb) for the past 8 or 9 months it gets agitating. Especially because if people would bother scanning through just the threads on page one they would quickly find the answer to this and many other commonly asked questions. I try to be as helpful and polite as i can, but just as its a rule of thumb to think before you speak, also should it be a rule of thumb to read before you post. I apologize if i offended you.

I haven't played with CM9 for a long time. How is the maturity of the ROM? Is it pretty stable or is it still kinda buggy. I remember the last time I used it, it had problems with viewing websites in landscape mode. Any outstanding problems with the ROM that should be fixed before jumping into Jelly Bean?

Its nearly release candidate quality. I too left for a while but recently went back to it and am in love all over again . The rotation bug has been fixed in the most recent update but at a performance cost. Most are reporting that the performance decline is negligible though. Considering that it has taken many months for ics to mature to this point, i would imagine that it would take some time to get jb stable. We are getting ever closer to proprietary ics drivers and kernel though.
