Knowing full well the latest CM9 build is still flagged an "alpha," I decided to take my 16GB Nook Tablet for a dive. And I've got to say, it feels more "beta" than alpha, for sure.
That said, for those wondering, here's a list of apps I've found that work:
Google Play
Gmail
Google Voice
Google Talk
News & Weather
Facebook
Browser
Firefox for Android
Angry Birds
Angry Birds Space
Dungeon Defenders Second Wave (medium graphics)
VLC (800x480 resolution or lower w/hardware acceleration enabled)
Features that work:
Screen, Display and touch
Rotation, 0, 90, and 270
Sound, speaker
WiFi
Power, volume, and "n" buttons
Apps that DON'T work:
Netflix (noted in main CM9 dev post), audio no video
Fruit Ninja, doesn't finish loading, get audio on exit then crash
Features that DON'T work:
None discovered so far
Scrolling vertically through Browser, Firefox, Gmail, and Netflix seemed a bit jagged, but again, noted in Dev thread
These are just my results, though. Since it's still a work in progress, of course, your results will vary. All apps (except VLC) were downloaded from the Play store. Sideloading does work. Apps with widgets have working widgets. CM9 installed internal.
Over all, though, it feels very polished. With a bit of smoothing out and a couple tweaks here or there, I'd bet it'll be ready for beta soon enough.
I'm curious to hear what other apps are working. Any suggested apps to try out?
Add also Google Drive, Taptu, Teamviewer, and the American Red Cross first aid app to the working list

Add to working:
Flipboard
BeyondPod (audio and video)
WiFi Manager
Beautiful Widgets (work much better than on Nook Stock)
APW widgets (also an improvement over Nook Stock)
I get continual force-closes on APW widgets (pro version). It installs, and you can put the widget on the homescreen and configure it, but as soon as it refreshes, it crashes. Has been happening for me since CM9alpha 3...

I was using Apex launcher, if that helps. Don't know how APW works w/ Trebuchet as the default.
I also had constant FC's and reboots (with lots of apps) until I ran a Fix Permissions . . . then everything was rock solid.
chrome works but going to the settings crashes the app

This rom is my daily driver. The first post pretty much nailed the drawbacks. None of them are a deal breaker for me. The wireless tugs on the battery a bit if you don't turn it off before sleeping the device. I can live with that.
Wifi Location (y/n) ?
I still can't get wifi location services to work on 0.5. Can anyone else get it to work? I've been using Mock GPS instead. I really enjoy this rom a lot.
you will need to add these lines to device.mk
Code:
# enable Google-specific location features,
# like NetworkLocationProvider and LocationCollector
PRODUCT_PROPERTY_OVERRIDES += \
ro.com.google.locationfeatures=1 \
ro.com.google.networklocation=1
and this to overlay/frameworks/base/core/res/res/values/config.xml
Code:
<!-- Component name of the service providing network location support. -->
<string name="config_networkLocationProvider">com.google.android.location.NetworkLocationProvider</string>
<!-- Component name of the service providing geocoder API support. -->
<string name="config_geocodeProvider">com.google.android.location.GeocodeProvider</string>
and rebuild. It works fine for me.
Interestingly enough, the B&N bookstore works just fine.

Plex
I used to do Plex client on CM7.2, now that I switched to CM9, the Plex app can't even find my server or log in to myplex, let alone get to playing videos.
Wifi Multicast still not working in CM9 0.0.5 so apps using UPNP, DLNA etc. such as
Bubble UPNP,
Skifta
do not work (tested on NT 8GB but believed to also apply to NT 16 GB).
(this was true on alpha 4 too).
The Kindle Fire guys have made some progress on a very similar sounding bug at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23696294#post23696294 but I've not seen any progress on this in the NT space.

Let me start by saying, i'm running stock untouched, unrooted, i turned it on and installed apps from the market, version of Gt10.1. It is the 32Gb version and came with 3.1 on it.
I've had my Gt10.1 for almost a week now and I must say that I'm stunned at the frequency of FC errors from various apps. I mean even my "Samsung Account" force closes after each restart.
Anyone else noticed that the screen isn't calibrated correctly. Seems I have to touch to the right of what I intend to select. This is particularly noticeable when selecting text in the browser or in text editors such as this app.
Should I reset to factory?
A lot of apps that work just find on my Epic4G are unstable or not available ... like where is facebook???? And how come nearly every game is either buggy or not available... EA games are just unsupported?
Is there a place anywhere that filters the marketplace by supported os version ? I.e. what is proven to work on HC 3.1

Facebook has been pulled from the tablet market for a while.
The samsung force close is on every tablet I think after reboot
I'd try resetting and see if that helps with the force closes and the screen inaccuracy. Maybe try not loading every app you had before. If that doesn't work, take it back to where you bought it and see if you can get an exchange.
Yeah its disgracefull that samsung have released the tab with so many bugs. Im writing this now on my tab and the text cant even keep up with my typing...the whole gt 10.1 is an unpleasant experience, the amount of force closes is staggering and unaceptable. theres no filterin the market to show only tab apps, it gives off a high pitch noise after every selection from the speakers, theres no predictive text input, the video play back its utter crap, why dont the home buttons auto hide to give more screen space, reading books is awfull due to each page being out of focus for a split second before being displayed properly. Theres people with dust under the screen, oh and the batteru life is in my opinion well below stated. and last but definately not least yeah it does flash in websites but not 100% some sites work and some are awfull,,,,

I feel for u. I've resolved the laggy keyboard by sticking with either the Android keyboard or Thumb keyboard. Both perform excellently. My experience has been that hidden home buttons seem to be a per app behavior. Example. Kindle app does it beautifully. I also have not experienced the out of focus issue. The video / screen rendering is unparalleled. Ive only experienced poor battery stats when I'm streaming from a weak wifi connection.. like being tethered to my phone running 3g 3bars or less.

-There is a problem with the way the stock browser handles text selection in web fields, it's probably related to some of the JavaScript problems the browser has. Until it gets patched a workaround is to use the Opera web browser.
-There are a few lists that people have compiled of HC optimized apps and games: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032381
@richie_jones:
-Turn off audible selection under settings>sound
-The default Samsung keyboard has XT9 predictive text, but you have to go into settings to enable it first. There are also numerous alternative keyboards to use if you don't like that keyboard.
-Video playback is very good on the tab. But like every tablet on the market you should convert your video to mp4 first for optimum results, or use an alternate video player such as MoboPlayer, Rock Player, Vplayer etc. If you don't know how to covert video files then check this thread for some simple instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060825

Yeah I believe the samsung force close is caused by an authentication issue on the samsung account. I looked in log with aLogCat after a force close (they always come at boot and always twice) and there was an exception logged from the samsung account app.
This happens when connected to a wifi network and also when not connected. Whatever causes it to bw unable to authenticate, the Samsung Account app certainly doesnt handle that condition well.
And finally, you think Samsung would have caught this one....
I took my Tab 10.1 back and got a Tab 7" instead. Honeycomb has a long way to go really, and all the issues the OP had I can attest to. Hardware was nice, slim and tight but given the software issues I couldn't justify the $500 tag when a 7" tab was going for $200 brand new. Very happy with my decision.
Sent from my SCH-I800 using Tapatalk
I reset to default and everything works perfectly now... the text SLOWNESS is limited to the default browser app.. I use either Opera or Dolphin now.
My only gripe now is with Samsungs advertisement or shall I say FALSE advertisement... this is not the tab they advertise. It does not have touchwiz, mini apps or Media Hub support

Throughout the forums there seem to be fairly conflicting reports about CM7 for the Touchpad, it crashes a lot, it mostly works, lots of apps don't work, most common apps do work.
Basically, how reliable is CM7?
I don't use too many apps, so for me it would mainly be for:
- Browser
- Gmail
- Google Docs
- Facebook
- Twitter
- Spotify
- Swiftkey (does the tablet version work?)
Oh, and the official Touchpad Bluetooth Keyboard.
Would I get a good experience out of the current build?
Some answers after 5 days using CM:
-in my case, no SOD, but it seems to vary
- dolphin hd (browser) works nicely
- SwiftKey x tablet also good
- 2 random reboots in 5 days
- facebook ok if you use fake gps to Set up your location (otherwise it crashes)

As soon as your done hit 0000 on the the keyboard then hit enter. You have to do this really fast while the tp is running the ring on the screen getting ready to pair it. Good luck

One of the most stable "alphas" I've seen, more of a beta. Running Alpha2, a couple times a day I might have to cycle Airplane mode to get wifi back. This seems more frequent if hopping multiple APs. A couple apps you listed have issues;
- Google Docs - current version FCs, had to sideload old version 1.0.4r (search the forum, there are discussions on this)
- Facebook - FCs unless you run a fake gps app first
This morning I had to power cycle it to get touchscreen back, but even so I feel no urge to reboot into WebOS.

Everything except wifi is fairly reliable. I only have secured networks, so wifi constantly crashes for me. I'd wait for the next release if it was important to you.

As for me,
1. Market sometimes FC when installing (not a big deal)
2. Wifi drops occasionally and need manual reconnecting
3. Battery drain during sleep, at the rate of around 2 to 3% per hour
4. Scrolling a bit jerky for a dual core 1.5GHz device
5. Facebook FC without FakeGPS
Otherwise everything is working so far. But then I haven't tested everything.

Renders all my various size and density photos (all JPG) quickly and very crisply.
Netflix ran good.
Youtube was okay.
My mp4s encoded for my Nook Color were all messed up (played but video was whacky, striped accross the screen, these play great on webOS)
Plays my MP3 without issue (need to move my album art over from my Nook Color)
Quadrant scores are pretty low (low 2000's) only due to the FPS graphics not being optimized (GPU acceleration probably is not finished.)

Browser is meh. But 3rd party Opera is fantastic. Nearly as smooth as safari on ipad.
Gmail is fantastic.
Google Docs is great.
Facebook sucks if you don't install a fakegps app or the older 1.5.2 apk that didn't need GPS.
Twitter's great..
Thats all I know. But I do know that the camera doesn't work (on EITHER of my CM Touchpads) and that each of mine have also had a random shutdown and refused to wake up (without me long pressing the power/home buttons repeatedly)... but that being said... very sweet stable for an Alpha. In fact, I think it's more stable than my phone, also on CM. And more importantly, it's better than WebOS if only for the app selection.
Compared to web os its 100% better some bugs but I haven't booted into web os since the first alpha.

anyway since you can dual boot i really dont' see any reason for people not to put it on there. Pulse newsreader is so damn cool on a tablet

Just installed yesterday and very impressed for an alpha build. Only get FCs for market and Facebook but realised that i need the fake gps. Did have to reboot the first time as apps wouldn't install saying i had no space. On the whole i like it and especially adobe reader as its miles more quicker and better quality than the WebOS version. But i do miss the WebOS interface so i can see what apps i'm running and throwing the cards away to close the app.
It seems more and more over the past few weeks, I've been noticing that apps aren't compatible with our nooks.
It started with some games, and even though it was just Scrabble, I let it slide. But now Facebook and adobe reader?! What's the deal?

I've never been able to get scrabble to work, and others have had problems too.
I'm running n253 and my screen density is set to 160. I've always just chalked it up to not following android best practices (my scrabble is 1/4 screen size, but the scrabble exit menu comes up full screen).
Facebook now requires a GPS, some have used GPS tethering, I use "Fake GPS" to fake a GPS location and spoof the facebook check.
I don't know about adobe, I stopped using it.
This is a thread to discuss problems one may be having with cm9.

I tested CM9 with stock kernel for about a month all the essential features worked fine the only problems I found were that the vpn conections don't work and there's always a lag in apps when you scroll up/down but that's releated to ducati and hardware acceleration also hd videos were choppy. Otherwise the games I played runned with an acceptable quality (dragon rush, duddle jump, draw something, crazy racers,...I know those games don't need a good video chip).

I have used it from time to time. From my perspective there are a few features missing that I use frequently.
Getting your location via wifi in apps like maps, earth, etc.
In some apps and widgets you can't get to the settings menu. These include the genie news & weather widget so you can't add additional tabs or remove the stock tabs you don't want.
Rainey Days app won't run.
All this appears to work in the ICS kernal, but NT won't stay going long enough to be useful.
Thanks,
There's a cm9 support thread.

I've been trying to upgrade my 16GB NT to CM9 with limited success. Somehow the nightly builds just kept boot looping on the NT. I have gotten a solid release of my HP Touchpad. I got hold of the alpha CM9 0.05.1 version and finally got a good install which booted completely and worked OK except for the video acceleration causing Netflix and YouTube to give blank screens.
So I tried to go back to old root which had both B&N and ADW launched. I tried several methods which looked successful while I was using the CMW zip installs but they all resulted in a reboot into CM9 alpha. I have found a method to get me back to B&N/ADW (Veronica's Ribbon Root download link HERE) but I also stumbled on an SD card version of CM7 alpha final image from TEAM-B which worked great!
Well, I wanted an internal install version so I wouldn't be tied to the SD card boot and found TEAM-B's BETA version dated 20120713 for the CM (aka acclaim). I been working on it for several hours and many apps. This beast is really good. See the thred here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826.
Thanks TEAM-B for a really solid platform.
Testing update
Everything works as expected.
Netflix and YouTube work.
Email works.
The browser works really great. Much better than it did under ADW.
The Play Store is great as always.
The default music player works well. I also have tried Real Player Beta which also works well. My only complaint is fixing 'unknown artist' where I can't find a way to edit the artist name.
For your own downloaded videos, the default video player is great. I've also tried MxPlayer which also works well.
A really neat feature is the USB drive setting. If you have the device connected to your PC via USB, it doesn't automatically lock your device out. You need to select the up arrow in the circle on the status items (4th from the left), then select 'USB connected', and hit the 'Turn on USB storage' to get the drives visible to your PC (I'm running Windows 7 64 bit).
My VOIP app does not work since it has a problem getting the microphone active. The puzzling thing to me is that the Sound Recorder works. So it's not really the microphone per se.
Under the > Settings > Location & security settings > Change screen lock, you can set a lock code similar to the 4 digit code under B&N. You can also do an alpha numeric password instead of a simple 4 digit number if you'd like. However since you may need to enter it often whenever the timeout hits, I'd suggest keeping it simple.
I've not been able to break it yet.
It is rock solid. Anyone game for the challenge of finding a bug?
