what is going on here? samsung is going to launch a galaxy s III with a quad-core processor, 4G LTE and a huge 2GB RAM in Korea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why they are doing this? why we are not getting these super features with the International version of galaxy s III?

1. Most countries aside from the US and Canada (and countries in Asia) don't have LTE.
2. The 2GB of RAM is negligible unless you're a super-multitasker.
3. The way they got the LTE radio to work with the Exynos is by separating it from the SoC, which will result in very poor battery life. In the US models, which also do LTE and have 2GB of RAM, the phone uses the Snapdragon S4 SoC, not Exynos, which results in better battery life at the loss of raw power.

what do you think? will 2GB RAM boost the speed of s III? mean, will it help to run high graphics games smoother than the International version of s III?

No

This completely uninformed and un-knowledgeable post makes me sad

RAM does not affect speed positively, only negatively if you have too little (like if you tried running Ice Cream Sandwich on a G1/HTC Dream). RAM only affects the amount of applications you can have open at once, which is not a huge deal given that 1GB of RAM is a lot already, and Android (which is Linux) has fantastic memory management.
Now, I know you're going to go into your Task Manager and then come here and post, "BUT I ONLY HAVE LIKE _____ MB RAM FREE!". In Linux, free RAM is wasted RAM; the OS will load applications into memory to fill it up BUT that doesn't mean they're running. They'll start up faster when you use them, but they won't use battery when you're not. So even if you got the 2GB version, most of it would still be filled by the OS.

thanks for your information. I've got it now.:good: can you please make me understand that how samsung make a 4G LTE supported quad-core processor in a short time?

Normally, everything (RAM, CPU, GPU, DAC, Radios) are on one chip called an SoC (System on a Chip). Samsung put a separate 4G LTE radio in the phone, which talks to the SoC when it's being used. To clarify, when you say Exynos, you're talking about the SoC; that's what Samsung's is called. Snapdragon and Tegra III are other SoC's. But anyways, they put a separate (not on the SoC) LTE radio in there to make them be able to talk to each other, BUT it results in much less battery life since the phone has to power several components at once instead of one chip with everything on it.
This isn't the first time they've done this. The Tab 7.7 on Verizon (4G LTE) here in the US has the same Exynos dual-core as the Galaxy S II, but it has separate radio as well. The separate 4G LTE radio must have its own co-processor of some kind to process the information that the Exynos can't.

Battery Life LTE vs i9300
My major concern is battery life. How do you think battery life will compare between the International and US variants? I would be on ATT with unlimited LTE plan. Although for the most part, I'd be connected to wifi.

I work in the server world (enterprise computing) and adding system RAM is one of the biggest power draws in a server chassis.
For example, a server with 550W power supplies does just fine with 32GB RAM.
But tripe that to 96GB RAM and now you need 700W power supplies to keep up with the energy demand.
My point is, a simple doubling of RAM may draw a slight amount more of battery. Don't know how real world noticeable it will be, but it is a fact that it will take more battery juice to run 2GB than it will 1GB.

Without technical docs I wouldn't know, but my guestimate would be it's a wash, yeah.
Though the two extra cores will usually be turned off.
I'm kind of disappointed that it is coming out with the Adreno 225 and not something better. Also the HD screen instead of the HD+ was somewhat disappointing as well. I am just waiting to see what the iphone 5 is coming out with, hopefully they announce it soon so I can make my choice!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE vs. International Model?

Hello,
I was looking to buy the Samsung Galaxy S3 but i'm confused as to which model should I buy. The international model or the North American model.
I cannot upgrade through my carrier (Bell Mobility in Toronto, ON) and hence either one I buy, I'll have to buy from outside.
Is the processor (dual vs quad) along with the RAM the only difference in these two models? If yes, then which one should I go for? Maybe answer in terms on battery life, ROMS available, etc etc. Would the quad core be faster than the dual core with half the RAM?
I have a regular data plan and I won't be thinking about using LTE for now.
Usage wise, I'd say I'm a moderate user and don't play very heavy games, but maybe, occasionally I might play MC3, GTA III etc. Definitely be multitasking a lot and constant texting/facebooking/checking emails etc.
I'm thinking to get the International version! But if the North American version is better, I would go for that.
Thanks
If you aren't using LTE then international model wins hands down.

It's not 1ghz and 2ghz but 1gb and 2gb of ram. I'm from Canada and I chose the int one because of dev support, better GPU, future quadcore optimization, I don't care about LTE since I have 2GB of data monthly and 3G+ is enough for me. Also audio as nodstuff said, earlier release and finally 1gb is enough, I'm doing heavy multitasking and I never reached the 1GB of ram, the redraw issue can be fixed by editing a file and I'm sure it will be the same for the US version. So yeah int version is the best for me, now you have to find out which one is the best for YOU.
IMO, LTE is not all it's cracked up to be, if you don't have unlimited data then it's not really worth it. I'm not going to sacrifice faster CPU/GPU for a 2GB cap LTE.
Needless to say I got international version.

1) Faster CPU? R u blind or something - Krait uses a highly modified A15s (which i believe what everyone wanted before Samsung decided to step back and stay on A9s for a bit more) and to be honest it is indeed faster in real life especially when it comes to opening apps (i had a chance to play with 2 devices).
2) GPU is faster on international thou but doubt u would be able to use even half of its power (i still have ipod touch 1gen and it can handle all games except Infinity Blade as long as OS allows on its weak PowerVR MBXLite)
3) Both have Wolfson DAC
4) NA Galaxy S3 has double RAM. If u are a multitasking freak (or use alot of ram hungry apps) then u would see a performance difference. Its also there to feed S4.
5) Krait is more power effecient than exynos when just using HSPA+
6) You have an option to use LTE (battery life will start draining faster however but highly dependent on your network)
With that said Exynos is indeed more optimized (no surprise) so the experience may be slower but ALWAYS fluid. However, nothing that the xda devs cant fix!!

Optimised A-9's built on 32nm Fab. Process with HKMG.
Krait is not more energy efficient, research high k metal gate which is used in the exynos 4412.
As for wolfson DAC, what us your source for that information? Supercurio said that it didn't after he came back from a trip to wolfsons facility in Edinburgh where he went after being invited to share some ideas.

Reviewers have already indicated that the NA SIII is indeed faster in regards to cpu and slightly better in battery life. It was also proven that the INT SIII has a significantly better gpu. Nonetheless, both versions are fantastic and have their tradeoffs.
I prefer the international phone. Fast and clean phone, unlimited for $10 with high speed enough for me. Love the battery, last for a long hard day.
Decision Made!!
Thanks for the responses guys!!
I finally got my hands on the International model and been playing with it heavily since today afternoon. They battery was at 54% when I first booted the device. Its been several hours of non-stop usage and the battery life seems to be good. Of course its too early to make any conclusion.
Overall, I'm loving it. Its so smooth!!
So glad I decided to sell my note to get this one. No doubt the note was/still is an excellent device. But I love S3 more!!! <3

The North American S3 does NOT have a Wolfson DAC:
Qualcomm's S4 chipset uses Qualcomm's proprietary audio hub, the WCD9310. This chipset is found in the US versions of the One X, One S, and even Samsung's Galaxy S III (only the international Galaxy S III will have a Wolfson DAC, sorry guys).

Honestly if you are not going to us LTE then there should be no discussion about it. The international version is an amazing phone and I got it because I also don't care for LTE. If I did then I would look into the pros and cons for both versions. Since your not using LTE then looking at pros and cons is just invalid because overall international version is more optimized and even the largest multitasking user will reach MAX of 850MB... honestly. how plausible is physically adding 1gb of ram to the int. S3

As we all know, the international sgs3 variant has a quad core processor and 1gb of RAM. Some variants however have 2gb ram. I really can't understand why Samsung didn't just make 2gb`s the standard in the first place.
I understand that currently its enough but it doesn't seem `future proof`. How plausible would adding another gb of ram be? Would it be possible?
I have a feeling the process would be extremely complicated and getting hold of the actual ram chip would be quite a mission. Still I think it would be interesting to know if and how this might be possible.
+1
How future proof do you want it? Its going to be a few years before 2GB of RAM is the norm and a few more before that is the requirement... If ever.
I wish everyone would chill out about RAM. 1GB is not only enough. It is more than enough and will be for as long as we all have the device.
There is no current need and no forseeable need for more RAM. Its not like windows where if you keep throwing RAM at it, it gets faster and faster.

STOP WITH THE RAM QUESTIONS. You have NOTHING to worry about. The US version has 2GB of RAM because it physically NEEDS it. The international version does NOT.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
1gb is more than enough for ICS and probably Jellybean so nothing to worry about, and anyway Samsung don't like to update phones more than 18 months old so future proofing's a bit of a moot point.

Question About Galaxy SIII

I just got the international version of the SIII. I was wondering if I should return it and get the AT&T version because some people say that it is faster graphics and memory wise, and that even though it's dual core it has a newer processor architecture (A9 vs A15). I want to know which one really has the better graphics performance and per-thread performance, just overall which one is more powerful in the end. I dont care about network speeds.
CAN YOU PLEASE USE THE DAMN SEARCH FUNCTION BEFORE POSTING?

It has more memory (2GB vs 1GB) but a slower graphic engine. Note that slower is a relative term; the speed differences may be neglectable in most real-world applications, but synthetic benchmarks do show them.

Yes. However none of the new features (such as Virtualization) are even used.
Note that an architecture doesn't say anything about the CPU itself since Samsung has heavily modified the ARM design.
Also note that the US-version is dualcore at ~1.5Ghz with the Exynos (international) is 4core clocked at 1.4Ghz.
The Exynos is also produced with a newer technology called High-K metal gate which allows higher clock speeds with less power consumption as compared to the old production technology used on the Dualcore version.
My best guess is that everything you'll want to do will just run fine on both versions, but the international one definitively has more horsepower.
The US-version with it's 2GB of RAM should be better for multitasking tough.
I got the international version and I think I made a good decision getting the international version.
Thanks so much. I looked around but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for there was always people saying the Snapdragon S4 was better, but i didn't know if they just meant battery/data wise or what. Thanks for the clarification though. So far I am loving my International version.

Exynos.

Just wanted to know any provider in US is providing the quad core version of the phone? I have to get myself a new phone. And will weigh my options between iPhone 5 and S3 (just waiting for reviews and comparisons), but wanted the quad core version of the Galaxy S III.
U can get them from newegg brand new but at full price.
All the us carriers have the dual core version. And actually my brother has lte dual core version from T-Mobile and according to our test, his is slightly better in the graphics department and mine is better in cpu but not enough to tell a difference.

I beg to differ. I actually have both devices currently. The overall speed is slightly different. The dualcore seems a bit quicker but it's not as smooth and fluid as the 9300. You really can only tell having them side by side by the US version is slightly more jerky than the 9300. I'm not saying the US is a slouch at all but side by side you can see the difference.
The JB leak on the US version has made it super smooth though. I believe project butter is farther along on the dualcore JB leaks than the 9300 leaks.
About the heat, my US version actually heats up more than my 9300. The Ram department I'm not seeing a huge difference there either. I mean sure the US has more free ram available but so far I havent noticed anything too different. I mean I have over 700mb free on my US version now. I opened an app like 20 min ago came back to it and it had to relaunch so even though I had over 700MB free the app still closed itself(or android did)
They are both great devices and I do find myself switching between the two. LTE is very nice..
I really really hope they release a quad with 2gb and LTE in the US like they are in other parts of the world but I doubt they will since in their eyes NA already has a LTE capable GS3 with 2gb of ram. That would be my perfect phone
So I wouldnt hold my breath for them releasing one in the US that just has Quadcore with 2gb of ram and LTE but I guess I can hope
The international version has a faster GPU by quite a way. However, if I were you I'd focus more on whether you require 4G than whether you can get hold of the quad core. The reality is that the quad core processor is not better. If I had the choice I'd have gone for the S4, but of course that choice was not there.

While many are responding to your question about S3 quad vs US dual core differences, I wanted to respond to your iPhone 5 vs S3 doubt.
I think you should first of all think about screen size. In my opinion, 4" and 4.8" are totally different things. For me the choice is simple, I wouldn't want the iPhone because the screen is too small. The apps can be fantastic and fluid on the iPhone, I will enjoy them more on a (much) larger 4.8" screen. The iPhone 5 seems to really have a (exynos 5 based) dual core A15 based processor, which is pretty neat. The performance should be really great while battery life will be solid as well. Anyway, it all doesn't matter because the screen is too small!
So I would say think about this, if you still have doubts between the iPhone 5 and the S3 (whatever version)

I also own both devices and I've been having such a hard time deciding on which one to keep and which one to sell. The US version definitely is jerkier on ICS. I'm downloading the T-Mobile JB leak right now, but I was running one of the Canadian leaks and it still felt jerky like ICS was. Battery life between the two seems pretty even although the International seems to win out. Also I'm on Straight Talks so LTE isn't a factor for me. The US model probably due to the modems and what not seems to be better with straight talk than my International does. Sound quality I have to say is better on the i9300 vs. 747. Even with cheapo headphones I was noticing some songs sounded worse on the i747 vs. i9300. I'm still going back and forth. The 2gb of ram is nice, but I really haven't seen any difference in the Ram usage between the two. The S4 seems to kill background processes the same as the Exynos. There definitely seems to be more development for the International model over the US one, but seeing as Sprint, T-Mo, AT&T, and Verizon are all the same there's still a lot of development and if one gets a better leak than the others it quickly gets ported.

There definitely seems to be more development for the International model over the US one, but seeing as Sprint, T-Mo, AT&T, and Verizon are all the same there's still a lot of development and if one gets a better leak than the others it quickly gets ported.

I never really noticed until I was listening to songs on random. Usually when I go for a run I use my Zune HD for music, but I was using my i747 so I could use one of those GPS running apps and I was thinking man I don't remember this song sounding so muffled and flat.

I have both as well and I'm thinking of using my i9300 as a media player/gaming device and stripping out all the phone stuff and using my i747 for phone functions like surfing the web texting etc.. for the LTE connection (which has spoiled me) But I think I would look pretty funny on the subway with two of the exact same devices. One for my music and one for texting.. hahha
Quad core is the way forward, if you wanted a dual then in all honesty there are better phones out there for the price tag.
A lot of people say that the extras cores aren't always utilized and they're partly right, but the overall feel of the system and gaming in particular will shine through on a quad as opposed to the dual offering.
If you have the honour of being able to choose between them, then you have to weigh up whether you want quad core or 4G.
Personally i've got wifi most places i go and HSPA is rapid for me so it's a no brainer but some ppl just want more, i myself think it's an unnecessary sacrifice.
But thats just my opinion.
