I honestly hate to post and will usually spend days reading existing posts as normaly the info I need has already been posted, but this time round I'm honestly spinning my wheels a bit.
Phone: Rogers HTC Evo 3D running original Rogers ROM.
Android: 2.3.4
HTC Sense: 3.0
Baseband: 10.53.9020.00U
Radio: 10.13.9020.08_2M
Hboot: 1.49.1107
Modifications
Revolutionary CWM 4.0.1.4
Superuser 3.0.7
Revolutionary S-Off
All I want to do is install the official Rogers OTA ICS update (which my phone is showing as available). I believe I need to disable S-OFF, unroot and restore the stock recovery loader before the OTA update will install.
I'm looking for the easiest way to go about this. There is so much info out there and majority being CDMA. A push in the right direction would be much appreciated.
In another thread, in the Q&A, i pointed towards a download. Let me try and find it....
Anyways.... I downloaded the EXE, they say to put it in a zip, and let it run from Hboot. I executed the EXE file directly from windows, and downgraded to .2, updated the phone to .3, and then to 4.0. I lost my root, but i still have my S-off and my Recovery does not work in Hboot (used to be CWM, i guess it got overwritten)
My next step is do get CWM back on and flash SuperUser to root my phone again. There's a few things in ICS, that i don't like. If you hear how to do this, or find a thread on it, let me know. Ive been searching for 2 days now and cant find anything.
EDIT: Here's the link
http://file.anzhuo.cn/data/attachme...00_10.13.9020.08_2M_release_203803_signed.exe
what about the kingcobra ICS? Why not stick with that then this?
I've used modded roms in the past. Honestly they were always more headache then they were worth for me. Features not working etc etc.

I am currently running cleanROM 2.2 and I would like to go back to stock completely. My phone is currently S-Off. what is the simplest procedure to return to stock?
Are you on Sprint? If so, the easiest way is to flash the RUU. Football posted it here. That's the most recent once with HBOOT 1.50. You will still retain s-off after flashing the RUU, but it will say LOCKED at the top. You could probably also use the older RUU (which you can find by searching for threads created by football in cdma evo 3d dev forum). There is an adb command to turn s-on. It's in the guides about returning to stock posted in cdma evo 3d dev forum.
RUU (ROM Update Utility) is the best method to return a device completely stock. I know all three Sprint EVO 3D software versions have had a leaked RUU by Football and all three are mirrored on goo-inside.me : http://goo-inside.me/shooter/ruu/
Also, if you're on a Mac or Linux, the .exe will not be as easy to run. The .zip versions of the RUU files are also available at that same link on goo-inside.me. Simply place the .zip file onto the root of the sdcard and boot into the bootloader. It will automatically scan and verify the .zip file then prompt whether or not you want it to be loaded.
Hope that helps!
ok so I just use the 2.08.651.2 file and put it in my memory card and flash it through bootloader? so my rooted status and s-on will be removed?
wow! you are trying to go back to stock and im trying to root my phone unfortunately i have the new update 2.3.4 i cant root yet if you want we can trade lol

O wow I didn't know that I won't be able to root again. I am just gonna update using the older PG file then to get 2.3.3 I guess.
Currently I am on Baseband : 1.12.11.0809 and rooted with S-off.
I would like to get on meanbean, which requies that I update baseband.
I was't 100% sure on how to do this while still retaining S-Off.
I have downloaded the 3.15 ruu plus root, can I just load that and it will update everything and keep me s-off, or is there something else that needs to be done to ensure I retain s-off, with the latest update?
Anyhelp information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
I was reading the below thread, but wasn't sure if I installed the above RUU that s-off will still remain.

Thanks.
This will be the easiest since you are soff. Make sure the file is named PJ75IMG.ZIP and place on your external sd card. Boot into bootloader and it will ask if you want to update. Download the firmware minus Hboot and kernel.

This is the file you need just download it and follow the above instructions http://d-h.st/5D5
Thank you both for the info, I just went ahead and updated successfully.
Out of curiosity is there any functional difference between hboot 1.12 and hboot 2.09?
On another note, I noticed that bigdaddy is running a different PRL then I have, is there a recommened PRL to use, or is it trial and error to see which one works best?
On a sidenote Thicklizard, I am also in the chicago area, nw burbs.
Thanks again for all the help.
There are a few PPL threads here on XDA I went with the recommendation from digiblur he takes the PRL's and dissects them the see what each offers
As for hboot 2.09 it seems HTC is trying to make it harder for us to have full control of our devices when we are S-ON
Here is an article you can look at http://www.pocketables.com/2012/12/...es-for-rooted-s-on-htc-evo-4g-lte-owners.html
But being S-OFF you can always manually update the firmware just like you just did
First and foremost I want to say what I don't see a lot of from newbs around here: "Thank You". I have lurked this website for months, trying to learn the right way to do all sorts of things and I think you are all awesome for taking time out of your lives to do all of this for us.
I really hope that my questions aren't stupid and I can learn a little something from this in the process
I have read, and researched and read and researched and I think in all of my reading I have just gotten myself REALLY confused.
Here is my device:
Evo 3D (shooter) CDMA
Hboot 1.58
unlocked
S-ON
It took a lot of doing but I successfully rooted and lived in stock happy as a clam for a few days.
I first tried to install PAC rom [Halo + Android 4.2.2] and got numerous install errors (which I now believe is from installing in 4ext instead of fastboot)
so I tried CM 10.1 ...
I was stuck in a bootloop with CM 10.1 (which I now have learned may be secondary to the Hboot being the wrong version)
I decided I was in over my head and went to look for my ROM manager recovery (which was apparently lost on my internal mem), but I can't find my CWM recovery either [I preformed them both using the ROM manager app, right after root NOT in fastboot]
I attempted to boot another ROM which I thought was compatible with Hboot 1.58 (Team dirt unoffical slimbean v1.1) made sure I got my gapps right...and Im still stuck in bootloop (now just of slimbean instead of CM)
So I said screw it and tried to install the RUU after relocking and start over. But I keep getting an error message that my hboot version is wrong.
Finally, what I am looking for help with is the following:
1. Help to fix bootloop as I would like to really try the PACMAN Rom
2. Help to determine what the RUU error is so that I can return to stock rooted if I don't like PACMAN
3. Where the F*** are my recoveries????
4. Just a little bit of sympathy: I acknowledge that I am a newb but I have read, read and read some more and quite frankly am terrified of getting screamed at for missing something simple. Please believe this was my last option because I now that right now I am merely soft bricked and don't want to turn a nice phone into a paperweight (Which is why I haven't tried the URT tool yet, to downgrade Hboot, Im nervous that Ill really mess up)
I am sorry to be so wordy... but you all say be detailed and as a Paramedic I'm just trying to give you the best "past medical history" possible.
Thank you guys again for all you do to help us not so tech savy...
please let me know what (if any) more info is needed or requested.
Be safe,
Doc
I can only answer 1 question and that is to why you can't get any cm10+ roms to work and that is because your running hboot 1.58. Jellybean roms do not work on hboot 1.57 or 1.58. You must downgrade your hboot before you can run anything jellybean. But first you have to use the juopunutbear exploit to s-off your device and flash a new hboot. Here's the link to the thread I used. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24530433

the RUU error is probably because you are trying to run a gingerbread RUU. with your hboot, only ICS RUUs will work for now. If you have taken the March OTA (2.95.651.5) then there is no RUU that will work for you until you downgrade mainver.
This guide has all the instructions if you want to s-off and downgrade (there are some additional instructions for people who have taken the march ota)
if you choose to do the juopunutbear exploit you'll need ubuntu linux (or an ubuntu livecd)
As others have said you need a lower hboot for anything other than ics.
To do that you need s off.
To get s off you need a booting Rom.
You need to do the following
Install 4ext recovery (highly recommended)
Enable smart flash in 4ext, this is because you're still s on
Now flash a stock based Rom, butterz, negalite blu, or stock
Now you need to follow instructions to obtain s off.
Good luck

Re-Lock device using htcdevway . flash a stock gb or ics.
I cant seem to find your Thanks button. Because I would click it a thousand times! That link was exactly what I needed and I'm running rooted, stock ICS and playing to my hearts content . Thank you so much :good:

Greetings,
I apologize if this is dumb, but I have been away a while, and am fairly new to this scene as is.
A few months ago, I flashed my EVO 4G LTE to 1.13.651.1 710 RD with root s-off and HTC sense. Since that time, Sprint has released OTA updates that flash the phone to the most recent HTC rom (3.16.651.3 I believe).
I would like to upgrade, even if I have to lose root, but naturally a full featured solution is better.
I can't OTA update, and that just puts me into TWRP, not to surprising. I would like to know how to get the latest update without bricking anything. As it's been almost 8 months since 3.16.651.3, you can sort of tell how cautious I am.
I wouldn't say no to a non Sense (pun not intended, but kept) rom, but I have heard those cause issues with various parts of the EVO 4G LTE's hardware, and I would like the phone to remain fully functional.
What is the best option. I'm leaving this fairly open for everyone's superior expertise.
IF you are indeed S-OFF and just HTC-Dev unlocked you can update your firmware manually then flash whatever rom you wish.
And you're gone lol
Whoops. Nevermind the s-off.
I'm tampered unlocked and "JEWEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL" with
HBOOT 1.12.0000
Radio 1.02.12.0427
OpenDSP-v25.1.0.32.0405
I'm still looking for the safest way to get to the latest HTC sense, or any android version that won't reduce functionality of my phone hardware. My brother tried Cyanogen on his phone a while back, but he went back to sense after issues with his voicemail.
If you want the latest firmware you'll have to go back to stock using RUU or get S-OFF and manually flash the latest firmware. With your setup I would go for S-OFF and manually flash the latest firmware. You can find three different ways to get S-OFF in the HTC EVO 4G LTE Original Android Development section (they're stickied at the top). A little reading should tell you which version will work best for your setup between Moonshine, Facepalm, and DirtyRacun.
Once you're S-OFF you can update your firmware on your own. Captain_Throwback has a link to the zip file in his signature (It's the link for the Evo 4G LTE Baseband: 1.12.11.1210).
You'll be S-OFF with the latest firmware and you'll be ready to flash any of the latest ROMs.
Best thing to do is get S-off, as stated above. You can use Facepalm or Dirty Racun to accomplish that. Facepalm is the easier of the two and takes about five minutes or so from start to finish. After that you can update your firmware and flash a JB ROM. If you click on the link in my sig you'll find instructions on how to update your firmware, as well as a link to Captain Throwback's firmware thread.
I've read all about this on "[INDEX] HTC EVO 3D GSM Development *FULL LIST* [FINAL UPDATE] " and others that should help me and read all in tutorials section, have lost 3 days trying to s-off but with no luck. On that thread are some links that may help me (a tool for auto dowgrade hboot and s-off or something and links for downloading roms that are needed for downgrading or s-off so I could install new roms like kit kat.). but some I can't try I and some don't work. I've tryed everything and just won't work. I got HTC EVO 3D X515m, GSM, ROOTED, ICS 4.0.3, SOFTWARE NUBMER 3.28.401.1., HBOOT 1.53.0007, S-ON. Also I can't get it to stock GB rom cause neither of ruu's I've downloaded from "shipped roms" don't match so I can't use wire trick s-off with Juopunutbear S-OFF.
I can't install some of the apps that I really need cause my rom is too old for them, and I have no money for a new phone, please help me!
Some Roms require S-Off, but not all. If you find yourself stuck start over and try again. I was able to S-OFF my first EVO 3D but I forgot exactly which RUUs and tool kit I used but the ones I tried this time around couldn't S-OFF my 2nd (kept giving me a "secondary backup" error). Anyway, I just loaded a custom Rom without S-OFF and it works great so I left it as it is lol

Thanks for your answer man. I know, I was able to install KingCobra 3D ICS, but that is the only one that worked. I need at least Jelly Bean or even better Kit Kat but every newer rom than ICS won't work and keeps restarting on boot logo.. Why is bootloader "parsing" PG86IMG with older hboot that I need, why it won't update it, is there a fix? :/

No idea, but if you don't like the loader you can buy one off the store. I use the NXT loader and it has a lot of customization.
Can someone just help me with getting s-off for hboot 1.53.0007 with ICS, gsm, pleasee! :/ Every solution gets me to one unsuccessful step, just can't go to the end without problems..
