Quick 'using recovery' question? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I've backed my system up but never needed to use recovery, if I use it, to what extent is recovered? All the apps, home screen layout etc? Or just the system files?

[Q] AutomaticBatch App installer

Hey guys,
I used to have a symbian, Nokia 5800 which have a very cool application batch installer, basically after wiping the SD card and place all my apps in a folder then run this app, it would install the apps one by one automatically so i won't do it manually (hence avoid doing it over 39 times or so), this was a time saver for me, is there any application for Android that would do this, just configure and have it install all apps either to the phone or the sdcard, this would be something that can lower the restoration of apps after a customer install or adding a whole bunch of new download via PC apps and games.
Thanks in advance for the help.

You could use titanium backup, backup all your app and then restore it...
Sent from my Shakira using XDA App
Can I also do this with Xrecovery, or only Titanium does the trick? and if so, would the apps all run back from my SD card once i do this or it would be diferent? thanks for your response dsaklein
You can create flashable zip with all your apps and then flash it with CWM or xRecovery.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
i dont think that they would be different bacause you are doing backup so they must stay the same.....but like Godra says you can do it with xrecovery search forum for it
You can use FlashTool

I think the create my flashable zip file sounds good, should I just zip all files or is there a way to do that too?
also silentw can you elaborate on how do I use the flash tool? I want to do an autoinstall batch rather than something manual!
You can do a batch install/uninstall with titanium backup

Backup sony Ericsson Home with Titanium Backup and restore Data Only after reboot.
This is not a solution, just a fix. Maybe someone else knows what the real problem is.

[Q] (VZW) How to nandoroid ?

Hey all,
I used Odin and flashed the rooted rom to gain root access, all worked well (minus the keyboard but no biggie), installed a bunch of apps, made my changes.. etc etc.
I'm now ready to start "messing" around, removing some stock apps, maybe try the stripped rom, but before that i would like to have a full backup of the current system as is (rooted + apps + settings).
When logging into the recovery menu, there is no option called "backup and restore", do i have to flash CWM to do so ?
Thank you.
Yep. Download cwm and flash the recovery through the app since it supports it now.

removing dsp manager not caused your problem. if you want to remove LAUNCHER, YOU NEED TO INSTALL ANOTHER ONE BEFORE UNINSTALLING THE OLD ONE. that is all. no launcher, no system to boot xD

I opened the zip for my minicm7 in 7-zip, put all the files for serajr's experia launcher in the right places, deleted adw and dsp, and then flashed the rom... the installer script automatically takes care of all the needed permissions, so no need to worry about that. It gave me no problems.

CWM-based or CWM?

Thanks joseky for ur reply, im experiencing one problem tho, i have just flashed cm9 stable to my galaxy s2 and i must admit i am pretty happy with it. However, lots of apps seem to be missing (like google play for example, i cant download any app)
any idea what could be going wrong ?
Oh and before i installed cm9 i wiped data/factory reset, i cant see any of my old applications now, but i can still see folders on my internal sd card that are called whatsapp, 9 gag, etc.
what should i do to remove ALL apps and start installing them from scratch ?

You were suppose to download and flash Gapps.
Visit CM9 thread again, you need to download Gapps (Google apps)
1. Download Gapps,
2. Boot to CWM recovery
3. Flash Gapps
4. Reboot phone
Problem solved!

Thanks ! oh and I want to start installing applications from scratch, i thought that doing a wipe data/factory reset would delete all directories from my past applications, but i can still see folders of my old apps such as whatsapp or 9gag or winamp on my internal memory, how can i delete them all ? Thanks ! i cannot see them on the app drawer though

## be very careful, some of the folders contain very important things from your previous activities.
1. Your download folder contains all your downloads from your browser
2. Your whatsapp folder contains your chat history
Etc.
Before you wipe your internal SD, I'll advise you to backup the ones you feel are important.
## To format your internal storage, follow these steps:
- Goto Settings - Storage,
- under your internal storage (size = 11.49G), Select ERASE SD
- confirm your action.
Done

Great, I erased my sd card and problem solved, flashed gapps and got everything ...
Some questions which have nothing to do with this:
1) How can i get touch recovery ? just open up rom manager and tap "flash clockwork mod recovery touch"? or is there another better way to do this ?
2) Is there any way so that when i get a SMS or a missed call, something will notify me on the screen that i have a new sms or missed call ? (i had this on stock ics, but when i flashed cm9 it just dissappeared.). Reason i need this: Sometimes i dont hear my ringtone and it is kind of annoying to have to unlock and bring down the notification bar just to check if i have something new.
Thanks, Currently on a Gt-I9100 running cm9 stable

1. Never use ROM manager on your phone. In fact, Disable or Remove the app at once. It is a very risky app, which has led to brick on many Galaxy S2 already.
# If you want touch recovery, you can flash Siyah kernel, Dorimanx kernel or Dream kernel. they all come with touch recovery.
2. Use a third party launcher. The default launcher (Trebuchet) lack this feature.
Holo launcher HD, Apex launcher Nova launcher, Go launcher EX, etc all have this function implemented

Thanks for the tip of uninstalling rom manager from my device !
1) cant i just download the cwm touch from here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and just flash it through my current non-touch CWM ?
2) I thought such a simple feature was integrated onto the rom but ok, i'll try those options.
oh and is there anyway to go back to my stock ics keyboard ? the buttons and letters are kind of small on cm9.
thanks
Thanks

1.
You may use that. It should work fine but I must tell you that I've never used that method before. I always use custom kernels
2.a. that's because the launcher in development by the CM team.
b. If you are looking for Samsung keyboard, You can't have. Sorry about that but there are better keyboard apps in the market with some of them having the option to change the theme to the Samsung keyboard style.
